So I must tell you I follow your page a lot. I love what you put out there. In regards to trucks. I own a 2019 ram 5.7 bighorn new body style. When I first bought the truck. I swapped out the muffler for the bola attack crate muffler part 400844 with all resonators removed which is in total of three. I then decided to true dual the system four years later and I added another crate muffler from Borla and messed up by adding the X pipe. Yesterday I decided to remove the X pipe and run true duals to both mufflers. I must say I am in hemi heaven. The truck is exactly how I wanted it for the longest. It is loud at start up. It is loud on takeoff. It is loud in general and the best part about it. It turns heads and I cannot take my foot off the pedal 😅cheers to Borla 🍻 mufflers.
lol, yea like I said in my newest Exhaust Comparison Video, you can't beat the sound of the true duals, but after some time, my truck just didn't respond well with the setup. Yes, the X-pipe was a mistake for me as well. I now have an H-pipe and I think I have finally landed on the perfect Borla Setup for the Silverado 5.3L. Can't speak for the Hemi, but I am sure it sounds amazing. Thanks for watching, and for the support!
Personal opinion! Go with awe 0fg setup! I went with the black diamond tips, kinda pricey but 100% worth the money in my opinion, no drone and sounds great
I recommend the rough country performance exhaust I have it on my trailboss and it sounds amazing no drone in the cab it added some performance to the truck combined with a cold air intake the only thing it’s not a true dual but it does the job performance and sound I love it.
Thanks for sharing. I will look into it. The problem I struggle with is that I love custom exhaust, but I guess its not always the best way to go. A lot of trial and error.
I have the same system, though I swapped in a flowmaster Super 10 muffler using the extension pipe in the kit with some trimming. the stock rough country system muffler is a Super 44 equivalent.
I went with AWE exhaust and I am liking it. On cold start with AWE its a bit too much sometimes. I had Borla S-type on my previous truck and was happy with it as well.
I have the S-Type Borla exhaust on my 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 6.2L and was considering moving to the True Dual in the same model after putting on the Whipple SC. I was not aware of the X-pipe requirement to retain performance. No where on their site does it mention this. I may have to reconsider after watching your video, so thanks for the heads up. You say it changed the tone, but I couldn't tell from your clips. I think you should've had a few less sound clips with the new config and added side by side comparisons, if you had them. Would've been much easier to tell
I actually plan on making a video of all the Borla setups I have done in one video eventually. The biggest difference in sound with this setup was the inside sound, and honestly I have found it hard to actually get the sound of what I hear in the cab on a mic. It sounds more raspier in the cab with the X-pipe and not as deep and throaty compared to the true duals. I was thinking of possibly trying an H-pipe to hear the sound difference. If I was in your shoes, if you have the full Borla S-type system with one muffler, I think I would stick with that because I am finding that these trucks seem to like the scavenging of the Y-Pipe with one muffler better than the true duals/x-pipe setup. Only reason for me possibly trying the H-pipe, is cause I am kinda down the rabbit hole now and want to try it before going back to the Y-pipe.
@@zachattackcustoms Probably a good idea alright. I was really hoping to eek out some extra HP/TQ with just the true dual, but I'll wait and see what your tests reveal. You're not the first I've talked to that has gotten the true dual setup, but the first to comment on the loss of performance from it and then for Borla to acknowledge it is very eye opening. No one I've seen has gotten the xpipe, so that's new to me.
Just seeing this video 6 months too late. For the drone, have you looked into Vibrant resonators? They have a couple different models depending on how much you want to tame it.
I actually just switched over to an H-pipe, the drone is not as bad and it’s a deeper tone. Liking it way better than the XPipe. I plan to do a comparison video soon with all the sounds.
Hi Zach. Love the videos! Considering the Atak 400823 single muffler swap on my 2019 5.3 Z71. Did you ever end up with any drone issues with that set up? Especially on the highway?
No problem, It just depends on if you are a fan of loud cold starts and hearing it when you get on it. I loved having the single muffler with no drone, but the best sound is with the true dual, but you get the drone which can sometimes be annoying on the highway.
Thank you. When the DFM kicked in on the highway, was that annoying with the single atak? I currently have the Perf XS and it hums like crazy right at about 70 mph. Drives me nuts. I'm thinking it's because it's a universal muffler and not the crate that is vehicle specific.

Sounds great. Personally, I kinda like the drone in the cab. My wife doesn't and that makes me like it that much more )
😂😂😂
W, never simp never give in! 💪

Thanks for the recommendation. I ended up switching to an H-Pipe. Much deeper tone, no drone, loving it.

@nrxhavoc how do you like the super 10s?

I have always loved borla but I am actually considering switching to AWE.

Nice I went with just a Muffler and resonator delete. Imo there is more power added. I'll be running headers soon and high flow cats with it
What muffler did you go with?

The drone could be the cyl deactivation..

No, the single Borla atak crate muffler had no drone and it sounded great, just not as loud as the true duals.
Thank you sir!
Just trying to decide between that one and the 400822. S Type. I do a lot of daily driving and highway out of town with the fam.

Maybe look into the AWE exhaust check out lone star Hawaiians 2020 trailboss with the AWE😎👍
Thanks for the advice. I will check it out.
