I love that shot at the end with the both of them after Kira asks him if he will ever trust her again and Odo just buries his head.

Kira was one of the very few people that Odo trusted at that point - losing that must have been agonizing for him.

It's not a plot about depicting the take down of the universe, see planets explode or anything of that sort. Just a controversy of limited scope but raw, well written & meaningful. Who knew then that we were was close to end of an era of where the writing was so astute.

one of the best scenes ever between Major Kira and Odo

I hate it when for 'this instance'[not her ongoing freedom fighting violence] haterz fans try to call Kira a murderer when she was just collecting spy info and was caught and attacked to be killed for all we know because of the list. Like she said no matter self defense, Dukat would have had her killed.

No it's canon, writers say so, Kira was caught and in self defense killed Vaatrik. As a viewer with common sense and the writer's logic -- Why would she suddenly make up a 'lie' by saying Vaatrick was not set for assassination, after attempting to 'fess up for years about being how he died but be years reluctant?? If Kira had THAT lie always, didn't CARE about Odo or lying to him, then She would NOT have been reluctant afraid to tell that fake truth to Odo since the fall of the Occupation years ago and was past litigation arrest? She's have told him years ago, 'yeah I killed assassinated Vaatrik to take him out'
Kira could have told self defense truth to Past Odo but she'd have been Killed by Dukat for being a Rebel and Past Odo wasn't shown to be Kira's honorable lawman BFF. Only when Odo lied to Dukat about her not being a Rebel at all doing sabotage, let Kira know Odo was a goodman at heart. Making her GUILT RIDDEN FOR YEARS.
BUT IF Kira CARED and Loved as a BFF to Odo, 'Canon' developed character arcs ; the fact KIRA had had to LIE AT ALL stayed guilt ridden for years such that innocent self defense is still a HUGE self esteem burden to tell Odo is more believable than to make Kira a cold liar and assassin. The cynical assertion, Only now makes up a lie shit to tell Odo? The truth of self defense is more believable
Kira failing to tell anything - sin of omission to a BFF.
You can't have BFFs eventual lovers when one is a lawman and other a lying cold blooded assassin/killer. Garak, who is one, is not
Odo's BFF. Garak isn't Bashir's ultimate arc BFF lover. When Past Odo allowed Bajorans to get executed, it's shown he was negligent unknowing of the FACTS or Truth, so Kira loving him logic is allowed. In reverse Kira has NEVER lied to Odo about her part in any
deaths(Never as an assassin or planned murderer) during the resistance rebellion, only FAILED to say how a she was involved in a
      death.

One of the best scenes on DS9, period.

It's scenes like these where I miss Rene the most. I'm binge watching DS9 in his and Aron's honor.

For those not getting CLUES - When Sisko says to Odo that he looked like he just lost a friend, IT WASN'T QUARK, Odo has been walking around fine with no attitude changes with Quark on the edge of death or getting saved WHAT CHANGED HIS EMOTIONS WAS REALIZING KIRA HAD LIED TO HIM and FOR ALL THESE YEARS BEEN THE MURDERER
*KIRA IS ODO'S BEST FRIEND STRAIGHT OUT* NOT BEGRUDGINGLY like Quark. DS9 Companion & Behr states, Odo was in-love or deeply loved Kira even just as a best-friend, the writer's did the vid reviews before production and realized from Rene's directed acting of Odo's looks emotions and that it stayed as his character trait for the whole show. It became canon resolved when it was too obvious and fan wanted how Kira and Odo were too connected and reliant on each other to NOT be going romantic anymore. Too many fans and geeks were =
ODO in loving devotion to someone & also being Kira caring about a close BFF but never considering romance due to low self esteem or fear of rejection.
CLUES abt the show & characters for those never seen DS9 or judging just by seeing only few episodes or first seasons ODO til midseason is LITERALLY emotional experience wise as a CHANGLING equal to a teenboy, discovered only 7-8yr previous as a blob, he was a homeless TEEN wandering around after leaving the LAB being a lab monkey. Some podcast Reviewers tossing moral guilt on him as if he knew his powers where to go to escape Cardassia or Bajor when he was raised by a BAJORAN are smug no emapthy ignorant and victim blaming! Odo was forced into a position &didn't choose, but he then CHOSE in that role to Do GOOD by making objective fair law rules.
Screw idiots saying Odo was culpable at the start as if knowing he could refuse quit, his Real guilt was later and getting worn down lazy as a lawman allowing for innocents 2b charged guilty. In the Trek DS9 books it's alluded to Odo helping when asked by Bajorans during resistance efforts.

Justice was #1 for Odo, and I think that makes him more in favor of the Bajorans anyway. They were the victims of Cardassian tyranny and injustice. The Bajorans were guilty of terrorist acts, but only because they had to. They had to do what ever they could to get rid of the Cardassians and save their planet.
Odo/Rene and Kira/Nana had such chemistry I'm glad the writers made their romance so much better than the fans had hoped for. Even this early Kira deeply cared about her friendship with Odo, that she kept what she did a secret.

I love how that final shot is staged. How Odos head moved from the light into darkness when Kira asked that last question.

Outstanding scene from a great episode. I watched two episodes of CBS latest Star Trek abortion. The quality of the stories and the writing has come so far in the wrong direction from DS9. It really was the pinnacle of Trek.

lolmao some rightwing extremist twat tried hypocritical posting saying Odo was evil for being a collaborator with the fascist racist Cardassians yet Kira was a Terrorist for fighting the SAME Fascists and her killing in self defense from being murdered or raped is just being a murderer.

I liked Odo better without all the heavy makeup, and the less gravelly voice.
