      @@mnomadvfx If they can do it with TNG they can do it with ds9. Hell even the wire was shot entirely to be 4:3 and they managed to master it in widescreen with digitally removing things that were meant to be out of frame.
      Plenty of shows had to go through different obstacles to rerelease in HD. They can figure it out. I suspect the real reason is because unlike when TNG rereleased there is now new "star trek" (and i use that term loosely) being aired. They know ds9 would completely upstage this current new trash which is already on life support and roundly despised.

    I like Damar's little smile when he's having the third drink with Quark. It's kinda like he knows that Quark wants to know what Damar's secret is and Damar knows that Quark is going to ply him with alcohol until he finds out. It's almost like Damar's thinking, yeah, I know what you're doing, so I'm going to get free drinks out of you to take advantage, but I'm still not going to tell you. Of course he did in the end.

    • @PumpkinHoard
      @PumpkinHoard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@DivinePearl He certainly did later. But here I always took as more being what he expected of Quark and Ferengi in general. The Ferengi aren't a threat, especially not in the eyes of particularly arrogant Cardassians. Quark wants to know, but Damar is dumb/naïve enough to just think "Another Ferengi trying to get intel so they can make money off it." Which is true. Quark IS in it for the money more than anything. He's just a self serving businessman and will absolutely tell everyone proudly that is exactly what he is. Even if Damar DOES tell Quark what he knows, Quark can be expected to only used it to profit himself rather than doing something dangerous to aid the Federation war effort. Even if Rom is turning out to be a bit of a "deviant" by Ferengi standards, Damar would never suspect Quark would actually help the "resistance." He's a classic Ferengi businessman. Cowardice and greed are what he expects.
      However, at this point I think Damar is underestimating just how unpopular the Dominion and by extension the Cardassians are becoming. Scratch unpopular, flat out *hated* by all the other peoples of the Alpha quadrant. To the point that even self serving types like Quark just want you gone, damn the risks. I think the beginnings of it are being laid down here. Damar doesn't want the Dominion gone yet but he isn't thrilled with them either. The war still appears to be going in their favour. But the cracks are showing in the Dominion/Cardassian "alliance."

    • @SlideIX
      @SlideIX ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@PumpkinHoard I actually think Quark is actually a bit of contradiction. He says all the right things and does all the right things to be a proper and good Ferengi but throughout the series he usually does the morally right thing (maybe after causing the problem first but he never actually intends real harm) despite it going against standard of Ferenginar Profit first, survival second and everything else after that ethos.
      So despite Quarks posturing that it’s all for profit I think that by this point he actually really wants to help more than gaining profit (though he would never admit it) especially after being around the HuuMAns (lol) for so long
      Of course this is just my opinion on the character

    • @girlgarde
      @girlgarde 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      To be fair, the fight was as much the fault of the Jem'hadar as it was Damar and the Cardassians who were with him. While Damar shouldn't have been so angry and accuse the Jem'hadar of stealing his padd, they shouldn't have gotten in his face over the padd's contents.
      They should've went to Weyoun and told him that they found the padd that had Damar's idea to poison the last batch of ketracel white to kill off the Jem'hadar to keep them from turning on the Dominon if they couldn't get the wormhole open. That way, they can address their displeasure at being accused by Damar of being disloyal and of him suggestion that they all be killed off to Weyoun and he and Dukat could've smoothed things over.
      Instead, they got in Damar's face which only angered him and this combined with Damar naturally assuming the worst about the Jem'Hadar was a recipe for a disaster.

      To be fair, that idea may already have been on the table for the Dominion. A berserking Jem'Hadar would be a danger to everyone around them, possibly including the Founders. They'd either poison the last of the White, or have the Jem'Hadar terminate themselves gradually to ration what little White is left while maintaining their presence.
      The major difference is that that order would have to come from the Founders.

    • @girlgarde
      @girlgarde 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MaxUltimata I agree that it's a potentially good idea to kill off the Jem'hadar if they couldn't produce more ketracel white. I'm simply saying that the Jem'hadar shouldn't have gotten in Damar's face about his idea as he already thought badly of them and would think that they stole his padd.
      I get that the Jem'hadar didn't trust the Cardassians /and rightfully so/ but they can't go around looking for excuses to get in their faces, that just leads to trouble and makes them looks like drunk Klingons.

    Funny thing i realized in this episode. Since they’re all speaking different languages, but can hear others in their own language thanks to universal translators, puns normally wouldn’t translate. But since “Damar” and “Kanar” are both Cardassian terms, that pun would translate. I don’t know if the writers thought about that, though.

      (Eg. "I shared a bottle of kanar with Damar" in hungarian is "megosztoztam egy üveg kanaron Damarral", or "Damarral megosztoztunk egy üveg kanaron", or "elosztottunk Damarral egy üveg kanart", neither of them rhyme at all.)

      @@oldtwinsna8347 No he wasn't. Otherwise, he never would have gotten ahold of Ziyal, had her bake hasperat souffle and then shoot two Jem'Hadar soldiers guarding Kira, Rom, Jake and Leeta. He could (and would) have been executed by the Dominion for sedition and there's no profit in that. What he drunkenly said was the truth: "I tried my best to run my establishment under this occupation. But you know what? it's no fun. I don't like Cardassians--they're arrogant. And mean. And I can't STAND the Jem'Hadar. They're creepy. They just stand there like statues, staring at you." Making a few bars of latinum didn't matter versus the fate of hundreds of billions, even trillions of people in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. He was definitely a Federation and "resistance" sympathizer. As for Damar, I don't think at this point, at least consciously, that he intended to betray the Dominion. Perhaps subconsciously but consciously, he was all for it because he thought the Dominion was making Cardassia great again. The difference between him and Dukat was that Damar had some decency, buried deep down that eventually got out.
      Dukat, on the other hand, viewed himself as the hero of his own story. He believed that if he forced the Bajorans, Sisko, Nerys, everyone, to acknowledge that he was a great man, a man of vision, sensitivity, and wisdom, that it would fulfill him. He had an enormous ego that needed constant soothing and reassurance from other people; even as he wholeheartedly embraced being a brutal psychopathic tyrant, he deluded himself into thinking he was actually a "compassionate" and paternalistic ruler who treated the Bajorans as his own children and that they (and Sisko and the rest) should acknowledge and thank him for it, as children thank parents for their initial survival and then, in a twisted sense, thanking the parents for being firm and disciplined with them. Dukat was strong enough (or believed he was strong enough) to be Weyoun and the Changeling's equal as part of the Dominion; he didn't realize that they were using the Cardassians. His collapse happened because, at the moment of triumph, everything--the Alpha Quadrant, his status as a great man and his daughter--was snatched away from him.
      Damar, on the other hand, was at the beginning, a weaker person than Dukat. He was unable to give orders without supervision from Weyoun and because of his feelings of powerlessness, began heavily drinking kanar and womanizing. As the 7th season went on and it became clear that the Cardassians were expendable to the Dominion, Damar began a change of heart. It started In "Strange Bedfellows," when Damar was forced to sign the treaty with the Breen that gave away Cardassian territory, on Weyoun's say-so and then he was ordered to submit his tactical recommendations to the Breen general, who would then present them to Weyoun. The final straw was when Weyoun never sent reinforcements to Septimus III and 500,000 Cardassian troops were slaughtered by the Klingons as a result, in "The Changing Face of Evil." That was what finally launched Damar's rebellion. Damar began weak but became stronger by the end and ultimately, one of the heroes of "DS9."

      @@TheAtkey Root beer was likely chosen because it's pretty unusual to call cola a cola. You either call it Coke, Pepsi, RC, whatever brand you prefer. Saying "cola" generically is pretty uncommon. And of course they wouldn't be using brand names like that on the show. However, root beer isn't quite the same. It's not as weird to hear someone mention root beer as just root beer, without necessarily using the brand name.
