"These are my quarters. I'll be staying ... somewhere else." Confirmation that Odo and Kira are living together. Kira picking up on Odo's distraction shows how well she knows her lover. She has also seen that distant look before so that when Odo says, "We linked" Kira's face changes. She's not angry or hurt exactly, but there's a sinking feeling that this is the start of something that could tear them apart. When Laas meets Kira, it's clear the battle lines have been drawn with Odo right there in the middle. Each word Laas says to insult humanoids tells Kira that he has no intention of staying on DS9 peacefully, or that he'll be content to "share" Odo. Laas and Kira are sizing each other up in the fight over Odo. What a strong episode and the only real, believably angsty triangle for Odo/Kira. It's actually one of my favorites. It shows just how strong their relationship is, and how much better they came out as a couple once this issue was put behind them.
It's so LGBT in that it's like a straight person and gay person dating the SAME bisexual person and trying to push their Orientation as more meaningful. But it really has to do with Depth of Love and Emotional Connection of spirit NOT PHYSICAL sensual connections ergo linking vs sex(sex organs) or whether one has a penis/vagina or not to push into whatever body hole for pleasure.
In the end he not only lost out on odo's heart, he also received changeling AIDS from Odo when they linked. Odo and the founded got the cure, while Laas might have spread it to other changelings that he may have found
It wasn't reality natural virus AIDS but a Star Fleet developed disease spread infection that killed. They answer the Laas probable infection in the continuation Books, with Laas returned to the HEALED Link and got cured with the other Changlings he met and became partners with.
klyana130 I know, it's just funny that they completely missed it during the show and had to make up for it afterwards. C'mon, they gave Laas a raw deal on the show by not addressing it😂
DS9 had SO MANY well developed Best inTrek creative threads ideas they could never return to with a required 7season run, you can go forever criticizing them about it. The nice is the book people are trying to craft a fairly whole continuation mixing dropped arcs(Iliiana example) & all other Trek iteration Canon stuff not-Abrams-Movies or new Discovery(as of yet)
I know I am late but Happy Belated 25 year anniversary to this episode, let us always be reminded when Odo show his true love for Kira in a beautiful and cool way. (I will admit I was in awe and speechless when it happened.)
Laas blew me away by turning into fire and fog!! It would've been crazy if he morphed into one of species 8472 from the"Scorpion"episodeof "Voyager" and chastised every Klingon and Federation guard ON DS-9!!
1:59 I never understood this, yes ofc Odo wavered when confronted with the female changeling, thats understandable she’s manipulative af and he’s still desperate to be with his people. But jesus, Kira is the ONLY reason? Thats bullshit, Odo is all about justice, thats why he also began to question the female changeling and never thought of the changelings’ cause as good in any way, or worth changing sides for. Kira is not the only reason as has been proven so for him to suddenly declare this in one episode through private feelings stands against everything Odo has done and said before. No one in the station means anything to him? None of the lives destroyed by the Dominion? Thats such a strange writing decision
2:07 Kira is such a supportive and kind partner to Odo that it only just makes me well up watching scenes like this, I think anyone can hope to have a relationship like they do. DS9 doesn’t have many good romances, Jadzia-Worf are very over the top and violent, Sisko and Kasidy suck, Ezri and Bashir is a bit sketchy given his past behaviour, O’Brien and Keiko are like almost stereotypical old bickering married couple
Hertzler, like Alot of support Trek actors play MANY other parts as aliens in make up. He played the Vulcan capt of the ship in s1e1 Emissary Sisko was on fighting the Borg. Jeffrey Combs plays 4 characters on DS9.
I don't remember but did Laas make it back to The Great Link or did he die from The Changeling pathogen Odo contracted? It would be sad if he did. I really need to re-watch this series. I didn't realize how much I missed it. 😢
The post DS9 book series(only canon I accept) has LAAS return after finding other lost Changlings and Odo welcomes them and heals them as they too were getting sick but they stay independent isolated and don't wish to be interacting with solids as Odo & the Greatlink are still doing in positive reformation way. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Deep_Space_Nine_relaunch
Martok's the changeling!
Q'PLAH!! now LINK WITH HONOR!!
I would have never known that lol! I’m usually really good at that lol.
*unending Klingon disruptor blasts*

When your friend introduces you to all their straight friends.

What a shame he never became a recurring character. He'd have made a great anti-hero.
Would have conflicted with Martok's screen time.
@@leonaquilla2547same actor as Martok, right?

Linking is like sex lol
I think they made it very clear, at multiple occasions, that linking is better than sex.
