Fun series. So, AW games have always been forward settle hills and archer/longbow choke points.
Now you have showed us this War elephant strat which is so much more fun and exciting.
Is there a third or fourth strat out there you think with UU or tactics, land or otherwise?

well its basically those two; defend defensively by letting them suicide into super longbows or defend aggressively by smashing them when they come in. you can do it with alternative units but elephants are the best value. only thing that might come close would be samurai. knights are a nice upgrade but come much, much later than elephants.
Plenty of strong UUs to choke/bully AI with; war chariots, jaguars (potentially?), holkan, impi and keshiks as i have done before.

elephant, i remember longbow god got luckshotted at 0.2% by an elephant in the churchill series.
