Went to DT a couple of weeks ago to check out the food. I came out with 5 bags for $33! I heard that another DT in another town (to which I go often) has even more food items. Their thin pizza crust is great - low in calories. Got the shelf stable milk for emergencies. Thanks for this video- I had never thought of buying food there.

Honestly, getting a little cheapie rice cooker changed my world. I use it for rice (which is literally the best rice I've ever eaten not from a restaurant), yes, but for cooking for one or two people it's SO convenient and doesn't heat up the house. I also regularly make oatmeal and single servings of pasta or steam veggies, and can meal prep x8 hard boiled eggs for the week in one go. SO good.

If you’re on a tight budget, want a variety of items, Dollar Tree always beats Walmart. Why? Because I can’t afford to buy the larger size packages even though it’s a better buy. I need to buy small and get a better variety of items for my upcoming week. If I have a little extra left in my budget, I will try and buy a bigger item to stock my pantry, but that is not always an option

Hubby and I don't drink a lot of milk, but I'll need it a few times a week for cooking - I purchase 1/2 gallons and divvy up into a few empty water bottles, so I always have 16-32oz of milk on hand. Be careful at Walmart. Almost every item I buy rings up as a higher price than what is on the shelf label. I've noticed this at a lot of other stores too. Another thing to watch out for is food companies using the same size packaging as they used to, but they are putting smaller quantities inside and charging the same or even more.

For your information I went to Wal-Mart and wanted to price check a item and asked a worker where all the price check machines went. She told me Wal-Mart took them all out. She said they can't keep up with all the price changes on the shelves, they don't have the work force. Prices go up weekly. It takes too much time to keep changing all the prices. So then why not keep the price check machines so the public can find out how much a item truly is. So now untill you check out you have no idea what the price of an item will cost. Everything is a total sticker shock. Don't trust the prices you see on the shelves. She says now she is stopped constantly by customers asking for a price check because most employees carry a pricing gun. The thing is it's really hard to even find an employee working at Wal-Mart. They also have only one or two open lanes up at the check out and the rest are all self checkouts. That is by design. You the customer do all the work. Not fun at all shopping at Wal-Mart.

Quick question. Next time you do a video like this with the dollar store could you show the ingredients and product origin? Or expirations date? I ask because sometimes I see good deals at the Dollar Tree but when I check the ingredients it is different from a similar product at a regular store. A lot of fillers. And sometimes the expiration date is near or already past. Or the product is not local. So there are other things to consider when shopping at the Dollar Tree beside cost.

I like their Jasmine rice, it always turns out light, fluffy and delicious. Rice is my kitchen nemesis and It never turns out right when I use the white or brown long grain rice.
Also their frozen peppers and onions, asparagus and fruit for smoothies I feel like are great deals. Those spring rolls with some sweet chili sauce, YUM!
And their seasonings are a great deal too! A lot of the time they have name brand overflow, like the Kingsford brand.

Somehow I decided to do a comparison between your prices and the prices here... In case anyone is interested
(I live in Paris, France, so every price includes a 5.5% tax, and the prices come from a "normal" store, not a discount one, because they don't have a website)
I did not find everything, but I tried to get the closest product when possible
    Oatmeal : 1$24 (with an extra 46g)
Himalayan salt : 23$, my guess is they are not the same salts at all
Canne sugar : 2$48 (the regular sugar was 1€53)
Panko : 1$ for 70g more (we don't really have panko here, but we do have "chapelure", which is similar)
Pasta : 0.89$ for 500g, BUT, you can have double that (1kg) for 1.17
    Rice : 1$76 (you get 100g more)
Milk : 7$05 for 6, it was 11.88 in your video if I saw right. Not really surprised because our milk is infamously cheap, causing independant farmers to close down in the best case scenario
    Gnocchis : 1$76
    Sardines : 1$72
Bagels : 1$64 (I took the hamburger buns here)
Cereals : 2$24 (I couldn't find the ones here, I took the cheapest I could find)
    Candy : 3$53
    Chips : 0$81
    Bretzels : 2$37
Stir fry noodle : 6$52 (waoh)
    Red bellpepper : 3$26
With a very few exceptions, everything is more expensive here... It explains why I always feel like I can't find a good deal when I watch your videos, there are none here ^^
    Great content anyways !

I hear ya! We don’t have any real discount stores in Western Australia either….I get so bummed when I see some of these hauls and literally you cannot buy anything including a piece of fruit for a $1…..I live in a rural area where we have one supermarket which has a very small range mostly at extortionate prices….what I wouldn’t give for a dollar store…or Walmart….something!!!!

Hello from neighboring Germany. I do feel you. Even though we have slightly better prices like I pay around 60 cents for 500 gr of no brand oats and other stuff we still have to pay more for meat, milk and eggs. Eggs are so expensive...and sadly there is no real differenace between buying at an discount store (Aldi, Lidl) or a normal supermarket, because the no name brands do cost nearly the same. The difference kicks in with the produce...

    My store
Has chillers of the week specials. And it’s just me so keep that in mind, but this weeks special was bologna or Coti salami by Oscar Meyer.. For the most part I try to eat low-carb/keto so seeing the bologna reminded me of my dad and his fried bologna sandwiches when he came off of work. So I picked up some of the bologna and Friday that and served it on Romain lettuce with a squeeze a mustard let me tell you so yummy and satisfying. No I don’t eat bologna all the time, but when it’s only $1.ppfew slices It is a cheap satisfying dinner and a hat Illinois night after work

The Velveeta style Mac and cheese with the liquid cheese packs are almost $4 a box at Winn Dixie for store brand. At DT, they are obviously, a dollar. Now I'm not a picky eater, but that is one thing I'd say I'm choosie about. I found it hard to tell the difference between the one DT sells and Kraft. I buy it a lot because my autistic son LOVES it. He calls it fancy cheese. 🥰

Hadn't done a big shopping this month as I've been I'll and after I watched this terrific, educational video. Thank you Christine! You reminded me that what ever fantasy I've had to go to a regular store and shop, I've gone back to what I was doing years ago. Now I go to DT first before any other store. I found almost everything you showed in this video. I ended up with a cart full and it came to only $44 an incredible low price for the same things at regular stores here in the Chicago burbs that go as high as $5+ per item but I got for (wait for it) a $1. Again, bless you for reminding me about ounce to ounce value and give DT a try.
