@elle1014elle coffee does not have an expiration date in the traditional sense. This is because coffee beans, when stored properly, do not spoil or become harmful to consume. However, coffee can go stale over time, which can affect its flavor. According to studies, the shelf life, if stored properly, can last about 2 years or so, some folks will even freeze it to extend that, but in my experience I found a brick that was 6 years old and it tasted as good as my fresh bag. @elle1014elle According to valleyfoodstorage.com, Spam can last indefinitely if stored properly, and doesn't have an expiration date. I started 4 pints after Christmas last year. I forget them except to shake them up every week or two and this year I'll have great homemade extract plus some gifts.
I miss having a nice abundant prepper pantry like this. After the past two years of being really poor all I have left in my pantry is the long term food storage, beans, rice, lentils, oats, seasonings, and some of the canned food I don’t use that much like canned fruit, tomatoes, and garbanzo beans. If you suddenly find yourself broke af you’re going to appreciate this pantry SO much.

Hey Tracy, it can be tough, I try to look for bogo items, and when I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment years ago, I used my closets, under my bed, basically anywhere I could find unused space.
I love videos like this because it helps with ideas tremendously! The hubby and I can tell you take great pride in your dedication to protecting your family in times of distress. God bless you Grey ❤🙏
I put all the salt, yeast, seasonings, any packages that are loose, I put it in clear sealed tubs, so we label and am able to stack the tubs. it protects against moisture, bugs, or rodents.
I would take that big # 10 Can of black beans and make yourself up some Chili to can. It is super easy :) Once you start Canning you will never go back. I started in 2022 because of the "bug" lockdown. Best thing I have ever learned to do for my family and budget.
@@GreyManPrepping You can also just re-can the beans. A lot of bulk food packages can be re-canned in pints, or even half pints, so that they last longer and are more realistic to use everyday.
With the price of meat, I buy clearance at a cheaper price and can it. Works great. You can also buy the five dollar rotisserie and can it. Makes easy chicken soup.
Once you really get into the canning you’ll find that it is really easy, but time consuming. Well worth the time though! I just made a months worth of dog food, but is need be it is human consumption able. I’m getting ready to teach my son how to can. He has finally shown some interest in preservation because I’ve given him some food that I canned. He found that it’s convenient to make quick meals, cheaper and better than the convenience processed foods.
@truncinesaulsberry9664 If you have a local extension office, maybe check if they have canning classes there. I took a pressure canning class at mine recently and it made me much more comfortable with the idea of canning. 🙂
I keep my 2 lb brick of yeast in the freezer, then refill an old 4 oz jar to keep in the fridge. Especially in warmer climates, the yeast will die off if kept at room temperature more than a year. I need to look into that fortified powdered egg! You look ready for hurricane season.
@@GreyManPrepping Another thing that I liked about your video is the fact that everything is kept on shelves off of the floor. So many times I have seen people put everything on the floor and not even think about flooding or rodents .
Store your teas in tins. I use old Christmas tins, just don't use any with rust. I do stock some ground coffee but recently bought a manual grinder and some beans. I have heard that whole beans last much longer than ground and a manual grinder can be used when the power is out.
Great idea! So yes, whole bean coffee, generally speaking, has longer shelf life compared to ground coffee because the beans retain their freshness for a longer period of time. That being said, unopened instant coffee "freeze-dried" can last for a significant amount of time, often up to 2-20 years, depending on the packaging and processing methods. Being in a power outage that extends for long periods of time, just adding hot water or even cold water is quick and easy.
Baking POWDER actually expires shortly after the date. You will notice that your product will not be fluffy. Stock up on Baking SODA and cream of tartar. 1 tsp soda and 2 tsp tartar. add 1 tsp corn starch if storing.
I'm so glad you finally were able to do this! Thanks for sharing, Grey. I did pick up some great ideas, especially towards the end. Have a blessed day, my friend. ❤ Oh!! My husband said he loves the organization.
Right away I saw an unused storage space. Over the door, clear shoe organizers are perfect for storing small food items and gear. You can also hook them over the ends of the shelving you have. Lol, I stock over 30 of the Modern Pantry milk and a few of the chocolate.the It's very cost effective to re-can those industrial sized cans. So glad I bought Augason wheat berries and oats when they were only about $10 a bucket. They're insane now. We need portable A/C too. Our A/C was out for 2 1/2 days this week.😬 Thank God the prep room stayed decent. Enjoyed the video. Great prep pantry!👍😀 Blessings.💙
That's a great idea, JT! I was thinking of putting a spice rack on the back side of the door like we have in the kitchen pantry. Hope you have a blessed day! 💛🙏
I freeze my flour, pancake mix and pasta for 3-4 days. Pull them out and let them get to room temp. Then I vacuum bag the flour and pancake mix. The pasta I put into a Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers, been doing it for years with out a problem.
Afternoon Grey, I too use shelf stable box milk at home, I don't use a lot of milk, except for cooking or youngest daughter wants some. I do have pasta sauces I bought, but usually can my own...more healthy and actually comes out better tasting. Anyway, your working pantry is looking good. Out at the farm, my goats are producing milk and we have moved over to mostly goat milk, cheese and butter. Lol, my canned fruit section looks about the same, mostly for my young daughter again. I do have a couple citrus trees, but they are not ready to produce, but my pears actually did well this year, canned a lot of those, figs, berries, crabapple...my red delicious apples have not matured yet. Going to have grapes next year as well as blueberries. My loquat trees have produced well this year. Freezing my quail meat, will can soon and my quail eggs are more than we are able to eat out at the farm. Anyway, I use milk crates to hold and separate packages of food. Great video.
I have begun to store the modern pantry milk because of your videos! Thanks for the suggestion this works well for a family with young babies/children.
I feel like I’m making a huge mistake being on keto and 170 pounds you will definitely outlast me now I need to gain 20 pounds of muscle thanks for posting brother
@eagleleathertradingco9795 I've done the keto before, especially after the holidays. Honestly, it depends on your health, weight goals, and so on. I do a lot of hiking and outdoor activities to help me maintain certain weight goals. I'd like to get back to 235, "Currently at 275," which was my military weight, but that also included a lot more muscle mass. Hitting 50 a few days ago, I realized certain goals take much more effort than they used to. Also, great guitar skills, brother!
So neat, clean and organized. I think my favorite thing is the write on board behind the door so everyone can participate in keeping your pantry up to par. Thanks! 👍
Depending on where you live, it would be wise to anchor your sherving to your wall studs. Earthquakes happen! Additionally, use bungee straps across your shelved supplies. Consider the time it would take to re-stack your supplies when they have to be sorted. Both of these suggestions will minimize can-denting and seam failure from falling to your floor.
Absolutely, great ideas, especially living in certain areas. I myself live in Florida, but I still have been thinking about putting up bungee or cables as a lip for the shelves, even would help with an accidental knocking around.
You might want to store your yeast in the freezer. I'm a microbiologist, and I can tell you that at room temp, even "shelf-stable" yeast is going to last better ‐ and retain its activity - in the freezer.
@bethhelminiak5063 I appreciate the information. I also read an article that, if stored in a vacuum sealed Mylar bag that it can store indefinitely, what are your thoughts on that. I appreciate any information you could provide.
@GreyManPrepping even without oxygen, yeast will go into fermentation mode and start to feed on each other over time. It will still happen in the freezer, but at a far slower rate than at room temperature.
@@GreyManPrepping also, loss of activity doesn't present visually, only when you try to use it. So if you're using stored yeast of any kind, ALWAYS proof it before use.
Great video. But one suggestion would be to leave your powdered milk in its original packaging. Light degrades milk over time which is why powdered milk is generally packaged in a 5mill mylar bag or cans. Since you’ve already repackaged it, I’d suggest moving the jars into a light free environment, like a black tote or a closet, especially if your plan for them is to be a longer storage item. This will extend the quality of the milk itself.
Thanks for the tip, I could move then over to the closet. My pantry room is pitch black as there is no exterior light that gets in. Only light is when we enter to turn on a light, but that could add to degradation.
I drink spicy V8, apple juice, cranberry juice and reuse the containers for storing pasta, rice and other items.I also store rice, powdered milk, beans etc in half gallon mason jars and I purchased my spices in bulk and store them in half pint and pint mason jars and use a combination of the above for dehydrated vegetables and such...
Hey Grey, love your ideas in your pantry I also have recently started putting the cereal in vacuum bags like your wife. Yes sir polenta is the way to go I don’t even eat the other grits anymore! I’m glad you’re canning now, I just learned in 2020 and love it as well as knowing I have food on the shelves. The more you can the more comfortable you will get.
Something I found last month that I am excited about is 4lbs of dried blueberries (sell by date 02/2026) and 4lbs of dried cherries (sell by date 12/2025) from Sam's club online. They are packaged well and look like good quality fruits. They will not last for long term storage but for less than $30 for the cherries and less than $40 for the blueberries...worth it, imho. 😊
Great tour! I am trying to get mine organized, but it seems that I'm alwaus running out of shelf space (I guess I need to go and buy another unit 😂 As for the comments you got about the cardboard boxes attracting bugs, here's a tip I heard about on another channel : Line the inside of the box with aluminum foil. I don't know if it's the noise or the reflection that deters them, but I did this to some boxes stored inder my bed and I haven't had any bug issues.
For small apts i suggest getting some WOOD bookcases and a 7 ft bookcase 3ft wide 9 in deep will hold 3 months of canned goods for 1 person. You just need a blank wall SOMEWHERE inside the house. Im in public housing and there is zero built in storage. I have 4 7 ft wood bookcases, and 6 plastic sets of shelves plus other storage. Stocking up on bath supplies is just as important. Plastic shelves in the bathroom keeps everything handy and wont mildew. ( my heavy stuff on the bottom, liquid laundry soap, bar soap, bleach ect) next shelf up is smaller items shampoo , dish soap, trash bags, laundry sheets , ect. Next shelf TOWELS AND WASH CLOTHS. ( end is open toliet paper) Top shelf is a big plastic tub with small items that i get on sale, like nxtra mop heads, toliet brush, dish scrubbies, air freshiner, ( hide xmas presents) toothbrush, ruber gloves ect. (This is a 30 gallon tub stored above my head) i keep the lightweight stuff in it and get it down about once a month. I can flip the lid off and drop stuff in without getting it down.
Nice stock pile, my I suggest keeping your yeast in the freezer, it will last much longer, hate to waste flour when yeast has gone dead. Keep up the good work for you family.
Impressive pantry, I would like to caution you on eating home canned foods from other people. If you don't know them well and/or know their process, you could be putting yourself and your family at risk of botulism. This is even more important if TSHTF and medical care isn't readily available. Many many people don't follow safe canning processes and that's ok for their own family, their kitchen, their rules and all that but since you're just learning you may be unaware. When I started out I followed some canning recipes online that I found out later were not recommended safe canning practice. It ended up being a costly mistake but I take the health and safety of my family very seriously. Lastly, don't bother res a nine that big can of blackbeans, you'll just end up with mush. Maybe instead, make a ton of breakfast burritos or something for the freezer or just break that can down into smaller portions and freeze.
😆 When we moved to this house, I told the family I needed a whole room since we don't have basements here in FL, I did get a weird look, but now they really appreciate all the work that went into this. It's definitely gives you peace of mind. 😊
Thank you again for the Oupes I won. I have used it to inflate lawnmower tires, and run a light where there was no plug, and to charge my phone. I highly recommend this product!
I asked my Winn Dixie manager if the store was going to be changed to Aldi (since we just had a new Aldi open in December less than a mile down the highway). He said they were told that some WD stores would stay the same ... for now. I haven't noticed anything new, except they have added a new brand --- Grow and Gather. I'm not sure if that's an Aldi brand, since I haven't been able to find a parking place the two times I've gone there.🤷♀️
Been looking forward to this video, didn't disappoint! just an idea for those who store their preps in their basements, I do so I use a dehumidifier to make sure it's as dry as possible down there
Absolutely Mimi, I keep one in my garage in case we lose power, and I can't keep the room cool as humidity creeps in quickly. Hopefully, with the backup power supplies, I won't have to. 🤞😊
To get more space, if you want it, I’d buy another shelving unit and add some more shelves to the ones you have to utilize the extra space above your products. I have one and plan to do just that when they are moved to their final room.
I also purchase the bulk spices. It takes along time for 1 person to go through them so I transfer them to 4 Oz canning jars and vac seal. I did the same things with the 4.4 lb bullion containers. I may be good for life. I order pemmican from Epic Provisions.
You are not really supposed to re-can big cans. I would just dehydrate the if you can. I cook then dehydrate dry pinto beans all the time. Your pantry looks great.....just didn't see hot sauce...lol
Good to know! It's funny you mentioned that. My wife has a cabinet dedicated to hot sauce, lol 😆 I'll be honest. I'm saving for a harvest right and the freeze dryer. Almost there 😁🤞
Put your yeast. And the freezer that is what's going to give you a yeast, long life. Google it put your yeast in the freezer. And if you have flower. Put your flower in the freezer. That a kill any type of webels
Oh, lol, some foods we have stored away isn't being made anymore, like Great Value Ravioli...back when it was in meat sauce....now if you even find it, its just in tomato sauce and it doesn't taste as good.
Looks good. Grey tell people to stock up very big potential union strike on the East Coast in September on the dock workers, but it doesn't sound good . Big box Walmart is stock piling massive amounts of orders along with others. And if that isn't bad enough, the Canadian railroad has shut down its estimated cost is 1 billion dollars a day. It's the same one ran by Kansas city USA. Lots of turmoil be prepared.
Thank you for giving us ideas. For your information be careful with the canned fruit, we have had many cans leak, it has happened to many people and not just us.
CANNED HAM-keep an eye on the drug store chains, RiteAid, they usually go on sale every other month $3 per can. Or do the order online, usually 20% to 30% off order to pick up in store.
IMO the cardboard is also good if something leaks, it will prevent it dripping everywhere. And the cardboard boxes make it easier to move if you need to shift things around.
Thank you for this. Most preppers are somewhat informative, but never provide detailed info or give us a picture of how and what to organize. I’m a visual learner… you can tell me how to make salve and tinctures for the flu and bug bites all day long and I won’t get anything out of it. But if you show me how to be organized and how much to plan for per person on food etc, now THAT is helpful.
Hi Grey great video. You really are on top of things. Wow. Where did you get your bucket opener? Is it actually called a bucket opener? Everything has special names for things. Thanks for the tour. God Bless stay safe 🙏💓🙏
Our prepared pantry started during the Y2K global hesteria. Bug-out bags started after heavy rain flooded our city a few decades ago. Hoarding medical health tools and supplies during COVID-19 pandemic. Next to plan-on for a “long-term preparedness” would either be building underground bunker or developing a self-sufficient homestead.😊😊😊
You have a great pantry. Not all people will have the opportunity to have back ups at other locations I'm one of those, I do have different locations around my home for preps and I rotate often. I've also instilled my adult children to have at least 3 months back up. Thank you for sharing today I know it's controversial to do that in this day and age but you do help to teach others what sort of things to store. Water has always been an issue to store for my family lack of space but I do keep the recommended and then some at home. 😊
Thanks Grey. I enjoyed the walk through. You could dehydrate that #10 can of black beans then vacuum seal them instead of recanning them. That's what I usually do when I get large cans of different foods. Beans work really well using that method. Much Love ❤
I love your pantry and you've really got a good variety. I'm struggling with the stacked buckets in the closet too and I am contemplating building heavy duty wood shelves in the closet to accommodate them and improve access. If I can add a couple of tips: I buy a lot of #10 cans like your black beans, make a large batch of chili or whatnot to portion and prep into freezer meals for a quick heat and go option. It's cheaper to buy in the bulk cans and saves time on those days when you don't feel like cooking. Save the pressure canner and jars for processing your dried beans instead of breaking down the #10 cans. For the cream of soup base, you can quickly make your own using dried milk and bouillon powder and seasonings you already have in your pantry. There are a ton of recipes for different kinds. I made a few from Mary's Nest when she posted them on YT a year or two ago. My pantry has a dedicated portable A/C unit but keep an eye on the humidity in the room. I realized recently that it was quite humid when I bought a humidity sensor. Even though the unit is supposed to keep humidity in check, it really can't keep the room below 75%. It might be prudent to get a separate dehumidifier unit especially with you being in Florida.
I would suggest adding a dehumidifier to any food storage spaces you have, as humidity is not good for food. Aside from that, this is very well done. You even showed me a few brands I have never saw before, so thank you for that.
Thanks for the tips! I have a large dehumidifier I store in the garage, I should have shown my humidity and temp monitors. But I agree that humidity is not good. Here in FL, the humidity without AC can get out of control quickly!

Thank you for the tour, I learned a lot. One suggestion though, I've watched many prepper pantry tours, and every single one shows the close up of their shelves while discussing the items, but no one, or nearly no one shows a panned out view of their room. We who have very small homes, whether it is an old home, mobile home, apartment, etc need to see the dimensions of the room in relation to how the shelving fits into a room and the space it takes. It would be a tremendous help for us in organizing our own prepper pantries in a small space. Just give us a view of the pantry from the doorway. Once again, thanks for the tour of your pantry.
Thank you for the pantry tour. We are a high allergy household so I have honey that isn't local. I tend to get orange. My oldest can't eat tomatoes or my middle daughter, any strawberries or bananas so I have them but alternatives too. I like Victoria brand for pasta sauce but have squash sauce for my oldest. We have a garden and many seeds. I have lots of canned veggies and meat. I don't eat most meat but I do eat chicken and fish. I have canned bread and pancake mix. I have a variety and cover all food groups. I am diabetic but like honey sometimes. It is great in tea if you have a sore throat along with honey so I keep powdered lime, lemon and orange. I have the same shelves you have but not much space so under the bed they go. I had a mouse visitor in the every day pantry while I was I was in Europe so it was cleaned out and replenished with our snacks etc. I figure we will be fine. I like mushrooms but canned are not great so my daughter squeezes out the water and they taste better. I keep a paper making screen should I run out of toilet paper. I worked at a paper mill years ago. Paper requires so much water to make. I actually love canned corn and green beans.

@phyll67 If you start just a little at a time, you'd be surprised how fast things work out. For instance, if you can, when you run into the store to get things for dinner, buy two one for dinner and one for the pantry, overtime this will add up quickly! 😁
Hey Michelle, I picked these up from Lowes when they had this big sale. But restaurant supply stores have them as well. Do some price comparisons and try to find the best deal. 😁
@@GreyManPrepping The reviews of their products, especially solar generators, have shown me they are in it for the money and that the word patriots should not be in the name.
I have the exact shelf racks. I bought a spice rack that I put on the side end of the shelf unit so I didn’t fill up the shelves with spices. It was wasting a lot of valuable real estate on those big shelves.
I've been thinking about adding a spice rack on the door like we have in our kitchen pantry. It's covers 3/4 of the door. I agree it would help relive some space.

I'm so glad you finally were able to do this! Thanks for sharing, Grey. I did pick up some great ideas, especially towards the end. Have a blessed day, my friend. ❤ Oh!! My husband said he loves the organization.
You are so welcome! I'm glad you found some things helpful. 😊
Man I'm in pantry envy lol 🤣 Looks great and definitely spurred some ideas. Thank you brother! 🤘
You bet, brother 🤘
Right away I saw an unused storage space. Over the door, clear shoe organizers are perfect for storing small food items and gear. You can also hook them over the ends of the shelving you have.
Lol, I stock over 30 of the Modern Pantry milk and a few of the chocolate.the
It's very cost effective to re-can those industrial sized cans.

Sounds similar to my processes for my long-term food buckets with my pastas, rice, flour, and so on.
Yes I do this too with my flour
Thanks, brother, and I also appreciate you sharing your thoughts as well! 😁🤘
I have begun to store the modern pantry milk because of your videos! Thanks for the suggestion this works well for a family with young babies/children.
You are so welcome! 😊
We use one of those empty boxes in our refrigerator to store our water bottles in, so if they fall over they're not rolling all over the place .
That's a very cool idea. I love it when my fridge/ freezer is organized as well.
Make your own vanilla extract and you'll have some vanilla beans prepped. Those could be a nice treat (maybe a barter item) in a shtf situation.
That's a great idea!

Thanks! 👍
Thank you! 😊

@@bethhelminiak5063 Thanks so much for the info! 😊
@@GreyManPrepping you're welcome! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing 😁👍
Hey Grey, love your ideas in your pantry I also have recently started putting the cereal in vacuum bags like your wife. Yes sir polenta is the way to go I don’t even eat the other grits anymore! I’m glad you’re canning now, I just learned in 2020 and love it as well as knowing I have food on the shelves. The more you can the more comfortable you will get.
Absolutely, each canning session, I'm getting more knowledgeable and confident 😁
Thanks so much for sharing!

As for the comments you got about the cardboard boxes attracting bugs, here's a tip I heard about on another channel :
Line the inside of the box with aluminum foil. I don't know if it's the noise or the reflection that deters them, but I did this to some boxes stored inder my bed and I haven't had any bug issues.
Thank you! And I really appreciate the tip. I haven't had any bug issues in the past 2 years. So far, so good. 🤞
Thanks for the video. If you freeze your yeast, it will last WAY longer.

( end is open toliet paper)
Top shelf is a big plastic tub with small items that i get on sale, like nxtra mop heads, toliet brush, dish scrubbies, air freshiner, ( hide xmas presents) toothbrush, ruber gloves ect.
(This is a 30 gallon tub stored above my head) i keep the lightweight stuff in it and get it down about once a month. I can flip the lid off and drop stuff in without getting it down.
@user-oe6wq7pu8d Thanks so much for sharing! Many folks are in apartments or small spaces, and this can definitely be of help.
Nice stock pile, my I suggest keeping your yeast in the freezer, it will last much longer, hate to waste flour when yeast has gone dead. Keep up the good work for you family.
Thank you! 😁👍
Thanks so much for all the helpful information! 🙏
🦋Wow 😮you’re Pantry is about the size of my Apartment 😂❤

I asked my Winn Dixie manager if the store was going to be changed to Aldi (since we just had a new Aldi open in December less than a mile down the highway). He said they were told that some WD stores would stay the same ... for now. I haven't noticed anything new, except they have added a new brand --- Grow and Gather.

CANNED HAM-keep an eye on the drug store chains, RiteAid, they usually go on sale every other month $3 per can. Or do the order online, usually 20% to 30% off order to pick up in store.

I buy one or two of the little canned hams whenever I go to Walmart. They are about $3.48 here in Washington state.

Thank you, I really appreciate that! 🙏 I'm glad you found this helpful.

Thanks so much, and I'm glad to hear you're doing what you can with the tools and space you have. I hope you have a wonderful day! 😊
Thanks Grey. I enjoyed the walk through. You could dehydrate that #10 can of black beans then vacuum seal them instead of recanning them. That's what I usually do when I get large cans of different foods. Beans work really well using that method. Much Love ❤
Thanks so much, Jan! God bless you! 😊 🙏💛
Thank you, and I really appreciate the tips! 😊🙏
I enjoyed this video, thank you.
That's great to hear. Thanks so much for watching! 🙏😁
