Would love to see a video of “Hotel Meals” - what can you make and eat with just a microwave and small fridge as found in a hotel room, using minimal dishes and such. My son travels for work and doesn’t want to eat out every meal.
There is a channel I am subbed to… Dollar Tree Dinners. Rebecca does some amazing things with DT ingredients. Her most recent efforts are something different in that she is meal prepping for an elderly woman. Just go further back & you will find some amazing creations. Of course, DT’s can vary in what they carry.
omgosh I love Rebecca! She seems like she actually really loves what she's doing on here. Maybe she hasn't been taken over by a management co or making videos to fit around her sponsors yet but she really inspires me to get back into the kitchen with the love I used to have for it as well as to help others more than I do. That's what we need more of!!!
I take the 15 seconds to do a price comparison. But there are people who Dollar Tree and other Dollar stores are their only good option for food because they live in a food desert.
A tip for fish eaters - the ‘fishy smell’ indeed indicates the fish is not particularly fresh. Mercury quickly builds up in the flesh giving it that smell. Sometimes we don’t have a choice what we eat however when we do the human nose is an excellent indicator of bacteria!
A tip I learned from my elders to remove stronger protein odors (fresh-caught fish, seafood, liver, chicken, etc.) is to soak it in milk for a couple of hours before using.
Our tiny town has a dollar tree/family dollar combo store and a dollar general, side by side. Walmart or a grocery store is 45 minutes away. So I have to shop at these little stores. I do find a few bargain items and I spend 50 a week maybe 60 dollars depending on the extra items I need. These stores do come in handy and I'm grateful for it.
Same for me. I have a DT/Family Dollar and a DG next to each other. Walmart is the opposite end of town from where I live and work. They come in handy and have digital coupons! I buy my dog food there. It’s grain free and only $20 for 20 lbs. my dogs love it and so does my budget 😅
If she had sauteed the sausage slices until brown, defrosted and drained the water from the veggies, then added to the pan over higher heat, I think that would have added flavor and made the sausage texture better. Then turn down and add tomatoes.
You are a panic. Love watching you. It's just me and the dog but I am a habitual food buyer. My freezer looks like yours for 6 people. I do Walmart, Food Lion, Giant, Lidl but not a lot of Dollar Tree. Love grocery shopping.
suggestion for a series. take a dish from like Paula dean and make her recipe exactly, then make a second dish with your twist on it. Do a blind taste testing have them decide which one they like best.
I’d love to see more videos like this and from Walmart! 5 ingredients or less, $10 or less, meals that don’t focus on the protein as much, and 1 pot meals! ❤
I agree but focus more maybe on alternative cooking appliances maybe a 20 dollar Walmart budget but only allowed to use air fryer a waffle maker and not instant pot cause that does too many things but something less complex like a grilled cheese maker or panini press or rice cooker/steamer
@@oksanaml9279 same in Philadelphia,,it all depends which one you go to, some have a great selection, the one near me is a mess. Nothing is neat and sometimes dirty. You can see the management does not care, also they hire people who dont stay long:(
I fry my gnocchi really well so it has a lot of crunch on the outside, but is still soft on the inside. It takes about 10-12 minutes of frying on each side. Try that for texture. It makes gnocchi awesome!
Yes, I think those same ingredients would be tastier with a few chabges. Start pan on medium high heat, sauté the sausage slices until browned, remove and add gnocchi and saute, remove, and add thawed and drained veggies to brown, then turn heat to medium low add everything back and add tomatoes.
Pink salmon is typically what is used for canned salmon. It is a much smaller fish and a less firm texture. It looked like you were showing a king salmon....the best eating salmon. And the blood line is from the skin side of the fish. Yep, king is my favorite followed by sockeye. I can't wait to get out there and catch some fish!
Liked the video. You never know who needs the food from Dollar Tree to cook for themselves or family and you showed some recipes to help them.. Great idea..
My husband and I went fishing with the same company in Ketchikan. Too funny! The quality of their processing and freezing keeps the salmon so fresh! Delicious!!
Good point about people that don’t have access to better grocery stores. We are very spoiled with access to Winco, Walmart, Safeway, Albertsons, grocery Outlet, Fred Meyer and Costco within a few miles. We can shop around without much hassle. You can buy food at DT, but it isn’t cheaper. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks Christine for the video.
I love these type of videos. you combination of flavors and combinations of food always gives me ideas for pantry shopping and new dinners. keep it up!!
👍 I really like these kinds of videos. They give lots of ideas for single people. . I have done several of your meals. I have made them on Saturday, cooled, cut them into portions, place in the freezer. I’m able to dump them in the Ziploc freezer bag. I take one out when I need a quick meal or just regular meal. I really do enjoy these Christine because they do help my single lifestyle
I'm going to fix Mac n Cheese with a pouch or two of the fake crab that's now at mu DT and I'm going to use Old Bay. Yum. I will serve it with, get this, mexican corn style corn made with DT frozen corn with some Old Bay and maybe some jalapeño. If I don't have any sweet Korean BBQ sauce or any sweet chili sauce I use preserves or jelly mixed with hot sauce and a bit of vinegar. Using apple, apricot or a berry preserve or jelly (not strawberry) works really well. I have, in a desperate situation used pancake syrup with hot sauce and soy add some dried chives, a bit of garlic powder and it's a yummy dipping sauce for potstickers and spring rolls.
I think you did a great job with what you had to work with ! As a tip- when I use canned chicken of tuna I use the water it comes in if using it in a cooked dish or a dish I have to add liquid to it adds more flavor which spreads out through the dish making you think you have more meat in the dish ! I also loved you idea if mixing peanut butter and teriyaki sauce to make your sauce. I’m gonna try that idea ! I know u add P. Butter in my ramen ti make a Creamy sauce. With frozen.stir-fry veggies which makes a delicious Asian meal. For me !! Thsnk you and God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
I might have to give at least two of those a try. I love gnocchi but usually have it in a cream based chicken soup like from olive garden but I make my own at home.
That Velveeta with jalapeno is already wicked spicy....watching you add Tony's to the shrimp and then adding that to the jalapeno mac and cheese made my eyes water and my nose run just from the thought of how spicy that would be. Please pass the Tums! 😂
my Walmart is 30 miles away and it is the biggest retailer in our VERY large southern Colorado valley, as is my DT. We have Kroger, too, yes, 30 miles away, but the 'pickens' are slim down here. My DT is tiny, about half the size of a 'full' sized store, and often doesn't have items showcased on YT channels like Deal Guy, etc.
We love your videos--very helpful! FYI for anyone with a Big Lots, you can get the same gnocchi for 99¢ there (and on their website). We try to stock up on them from there.
Thanks, Christine! I'd have used canned shrimp and/or salmon instead of the frozen meats. (I like the canned meats.) I've bought the frozen onion-pepper mix from $Tree. Those veggies are thick cut. Thanks for sharing new-to-me recipes!
I think you produced some very tasty meals given the limited range of ingredients you had to work with. Extra points for including fish as a protein. I don’t think it gets used enough and it’s such a delicious and healthy option.
I love watching all your videos and getting different ideas for meals. Im not good at mixing ingredients that go together tastewise. But i love watching you cook and find deals. Love your channel ❤
DT sells salmon now?!? LOVE the comparison between real fresh-wild caught Alaskan salmon and DT's offering, lol. The DT might be an acceptable quality for some salmon patties - def gotta be a notch up from canned, right? Serious props and standing O for pulling off the quality level of these meals rustled up from DT!! 🏆
The sourcing info on the salmon was concerning. Salmon is a cold water fish, so how would it be wild caught in Florida? I read that there is an RAS salmon farm in Florida near Miami, and wonder if they can call that wild caught?
The jalepeno shrimp mac n cheese sounds good, but I think it would also be delicious without the shrimp (you could maybe add bacon or the smoked sausage they have for a cheaper price)....just jalepeno mac n cheese sounds amazing!! :P I would maybe buy a bag of pork rinds instead and crumble it up to put over. Velveeta is truthfully my favorite for mac n cheese and grilled cheese!
I would like to see more veggies in the meals. Plain pasta is not a balanced diët. Fry some onion, sweet peppers or other vegetables. Spinach and onions sounds good in the mac and shrimp too
I would have doubled the stir fry mix and used it for both the ramen and the gnocchi vs getting the onions or reversed them and also crisped up the sliced sausage before adding the veggies for added flavor
Christine when i make shrimp after i peel it i put it in cold water with a little lemon and let sit maybe 5minutes then rinse season always good no strong flavor or smell
Cook the gnocchi in the oven at about 420 with bell peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes and a Italian seasoning or even just rosemary. So good. Maybe some sausage in a sheet pan meal. Makes the gnocchi less slimy and has a crunch to it.
Great efforts. I think the binder for the sausage egg scramble would have been the eggs. So really not a total fail just u made different then it was designed for! Love your channel! 😊

You could also bake/roast the gnocchi! Make a casserole and layer the gnocchi on top kind of like a replacement for mash potato. The top should go crispy and golden and the bottom will be soft and soak up the flavour of your casserole
One of the things I have noticed about DT frozen veggies is how inconsistent their size is. I always have to spend a little time cutting the broccoli and cauliflower into smaller pieces since they will give you just 3 huge pieces of either of them sometimes and that will be most of the bag... Possibly a taco spice mix instead of the french onion soup would also be a good spice blend with the hash brown casserole...🤪
About the gnocchi, try doing what you did, but don’t boil them in advance. Just put them as the come out of the pack in the pan and stir fry them until they become golden and crunchy. They don’t become mushy at all. Hope you try it out :)
I am not a big fan of the dollar tree, I would rather go to Walmart (sorry all of the DT fans). But love the video (all of them) …. Can’t wait to see more videos on meal prep for vacations!
I get it. Some of us rural folks need to drive much farther to get to WalMart or other large grocery stores. The closest one to me is 90 miles one way. I'm lucky because I do have a little grocery close by. I also have a Dollar General 15 miles away.

Dollar tree dinners!!! Rebecca has that ! She's AMAZING !

Personally, I don’t think DT is that great of a value for much of anything anymore but I still love your videos 💕
You really need to pick and choose now!
I live by myself, so the smaller size helps me not waste. But if I was cooking for alot of people a totally agree.
Pretzels and greeting cards!😃
Greeting cards for sure, and the snacks when they have good ones.
I take the 15 seconds to do a price comparison. But there are people who Dollar Tree and other Dollar stores are their only good option for food because they live in a food desert.

Girl, I will never want shrimp that bad if I had to get it from DT 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
If seafood has a strong smell, it isn't safe to eat. I hope no one was sickened.
the whole time she was cooking it,,I was grossed out. Seafood is harmful if it doesnt smell or look right.
A good channel is Dollar Tree Dinners. She’s amazing!
I agree!
Me also 👍💯
I agree
She's doing a new series.
Sure, more 5 ingred dinners.
Yesssss.... She's awesome. Her Content her voice and personality her whole channel. Agreed !!!
A tip I learned from my elders to remove stronger protein odors (fresh-caught fish, seafood, liver, chicken, etc.) is to soak it in milk for a couple of hours before using.
Or do like some grocery stores do and soak in bleach. True story. They were caught on camera doing so.
How to make gnocchi better (non frozen).... don't boil it. Cook it with your fat of choice in a sauté pan. They turn into puffs of love.
I totally agree!! Gnocchi get absolutly delicious when you saité them🎉
I was gonna suggest that too. Some parboil it first but I love it toasty brown.
Came here to say this. Skip the boiling, straight into the frying pan with the bacon fat, and the gnocchi will be delish!
I have gnocchi in my pantry... gonna have to try this. How do you know when it's done?
@@tashainjena They are done when they are golden/a bit brown-ish and grispy on the outside🤗
I tried the scramble kit. If you like hard crunchy potatoes you’ll love it

Our Dollar Tree quit stocking gnocchi, I'm bummed! Your sheet pan meal with peppers, gnocchi and sausage is one of our favorites.
