Woah... I just discovered your channel because I bought that game last week from a FLGS. I was looking for some reviews and ended up watching your stuff. Sorry for the quality of my comments; I am not an english native speaker. I subscribed right away for many reasons: intelligent comments, clear rule explanations, quality filming and editing with blurred and highligted parts of the board, genuine appreciations and critics of the game, and lastly, I dunno why but I feel I can trust your opinion. Feels reassuring with all these sponsered influencers out there on the web. Thanks for your content!
Thank you so much for the very kind words, it is greatly appreciated! Redzen was kind enough to send me a prototype of the expansion (I am not now and never will be paid for by publishers for my content) and I will be filming some videos for the expansion to post soon!
Great playthrough, perhaps the best one out there. You present very well, and with it just being you doing all the actions, things didn't get bogged down other things or side chatter that some of the other playthroughs out there seem to have. It was great to see two very different ways of playing, but still be successful. I am not even sure Stephanie even sold in any of her neighbourhoods even one time? Several folks think she is the weakest Boss because they focus on her "Steal" skill, which is really most effective against more opponents an/or aggressive, and they say she doesn't do well in a 2-player game. You did exactly what my response to those naysayers has been: if your opponent isn't aggressive in taking over Neighbourhoods to make your "Steal" skill effective, then use your recruit skills and ability to get thugs out onto the board to become aggressive and expand your own control. Great job showing that! Now,, you did of course make a few mistakes, but you caught most of them which is great. There are some you didn't quite catch, though most were towards the end of the game when you admitted were a bit rushed. Here are just a couple "notes" for next time you play: 1h4m - When you played "Film Producer", you get money for thugs in ALL HQs, which INCLUDES your rivals 1h16m, 1h34m, 1h47m - When you got resources, the dealer's supply bonus gives you 1 extra resource for each DEALER that is part of a deal. Since you had two dealers in those expanded deals, you should have taken two extra resources and not just one. 1h23m - When you send your thugs out to the districts, they can go anywhere you have PRESENCE; it doesn't have to be just where you have control 1h34m, 1h35m - When you seized those Neighbourhoods, why did you flip the the tiles to the night side? That only happens when you put a nightclub token on a Neighbourhood. 1h35m - You didn't need to pay the bribery because the thugs got moved in to that district using your Boss' skill, which ignores police bribery. In any case, if you did have to pay the bribery, it is $2 PER Thug, PER police car, so you actually would have had to pay $10 and not just $2 1h37m - I don't *think* you can draw 1 dealer with "Canadian Mobster" without doing the preceding actions on the card, particularly the "discard 1 of your deals". I am getting confirmation on that, but I believe the idea of the card is to make a choice of sacrificing an existing deal for the chance to hopefully get a better deal(er).
One of the greatest challenges with filming a playthrough solo as you elude to is trying to keep accurate while keeping the flow going quickly and minimizing the downtime and hemming/hawing! I appreciate the catches on any gameplay gaffs and will copy them into the show notes but unless I was having an absolute brain dead moment I think I only ever flipped 2 tiles when each gang boss took the Nightclub upgrade once (for a total of 2 neighborhoods flipped). If I flipped others then... uhmm no idea where my brain went and I need to rewatch the video and see where I did that. The only rules error I made that I honestly didn't know was that the deals upgrade is per DEALER in the deal, that makes that upgrade even more powerful! Knowing that I ight modify my strategies on future plays so thanks for the heads up on that one! The other errors sadly were just me juggling too many tasks at once. I do know better on those sadly I think I was so focused on trying to show 2 very distinct strategies! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! PS: St Claire is much better than she is being given credit for over on BGG.
Well... I claim temporary insanity.... I did flip 2 neighborhoods. Yup this as you know is WRONG. Only mildly embarrassing.... You are correct about the Canadian Mobster. I think the camera cuts it off but I did remove a starting deal.
Nice playthrough, I love this game. I backed the original game and I'm in the current campaign as well. Crazy how this game can have multiple legit ways to work your way to the victory. 2$ difference is si thin with the kind of options you have in this game. I thought for sure that Capone was too passive and qould get his ass kicked but what a surprise! Rules corrections: It's really important to note that the police cars on the board are asking for a 2$ bribe to let you do almost anything in the district they're in. When you move/put thugs and also when you make a sale. That's where one of St-Clair's power comes in dandy cause she can move thugs without paying bribes. One time you brought 4 thugs from the HQ to the center district without paying the 8$. Also, you don't get to flip a neighbourhood on its night and more profitable side when you take it. I know you know this but you did that with St-Clair at some point.
At 16:00 in the Playthrough Stephanie's Bodyguards move 2 Police - one into Capone's District where ha has presence and the other into another Distict. Shouldn't Capone be required to pay the $2 bribe ?
A question hopefully someone can answer - If I use a Bodyguard action to move a Police Vehicle to a District controlled by one of my opponents I am assuming that they have to pay the bribe of $2 immediately, but I am not sure if that's correct. If they don't pay the bribe when I move the Police vehicle to their district then do they pay the bribe on their next action turn ? Also how often do they have to pay the bribe ? Is it a one time payment at the first time they encounter the Police or is it a reoccurring payment ? For example - on my action turn I use a Bodyguard skill to move a Police vehicle to a District controlled by my opponent. When do they pay the bribe of $2 and once paid do they ever have to pay the bribe again ? And if so when ? Really confused about this - Any help would be appreciated
I am most likely way too late here, so I would be interested in hearing what you settled on, but… I just finished reading the rules and haven’t actually played so take that into consideration…. The only time I see a requirement for paying the cops is when you move into a district with cops or you sell goods in a district that has cops. Just putting a cop into a district does nothing. The point of doing it is to make that area less attractive to your opponent. Like if your opponent has sort of declared a specific district their home district and has the majority of their neighborhoods in that area. By putting cops there they will earn less money from their sales in that district.
This was a very good play through, but i didnt know if you were also trying to make it a comedy with all the tongue twisted ways you went with words Either way i enjoyed the video
I try for a little dry humor once in a while sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't the goal is to hopefully make it entertaining:) Thanks for watching!
Thanks again for another great Scarface video. Good to see that controlling the market is just as lucrative as controlling the neighborhoods. So far these two Mobs have been favorites. Are you planning to use the Rothstein or O'Banion Mobs for other videos?
less talking head, more board and cards - commentary is easygoing and engaging, but we should see what you are talking about - still good but doesn't showcase this great game and art enough
Agreed, and no offense intended....but around the 17-18 minute mark, the camera was showing you for an extended timeframe vs the gameboard which would have been more beneficial for a new player watching to see how the game is being played. In fact, once you start playing the game, truthfully, the camera should always be on the gameboard itself. Other than that, wonderful teach/playthrough.
Yeah, overall a good video. I know making these are time consuming, so thanks so much. I do agree with what has been said, sometimes there was talking head shots when you were doing things on the board. Other examples of this was around the 39-40 & 43-45 minute marks . I would suggest the Jon gets games approach where once the game begins, the camera never leaves the gameboard.

Very pleasing video. Loud and clear. An overall very good grasp on ruleset. Kudos.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch!!

Very excited. Was waiting for this!
Hope you enjoy! Check the show notes for a weird video cut at about the 90 minute mark.
What shelves do you have in the back? Looks like they hold more than the standard KALLAX option.
These can be found at costco! They're just metal shelf frames with MDF shelves.

On a playthrough more of the game and less of you on cam would be ideal.

I use the purple gang for the solo. I just need some editing time! Thanks for watching.
