    While pricey, there is a market for these things and for many living in confined apartments etc, these laptops do make sense. I feel a lot of the increased pricing on this years laptops is a combination of: 1) small increase of BOM costs, 2) Manufacturers taking C19 demands as reason to profiteer from unrealistic demand and 3) Ngreedias outlandish GPU costs and product segmentation this generation.

    Excellent Review. I ended up with the GT77 as I wanted 4K and Mech Keyboard, and the first thing I did was delete the Raid in bios and do a fresh install and config it as 2x2TB drives (no Norton, yay, and MSI thankfully do provide ALL drivers on the download page. In Win 11 Pro I also have windows update drivers disabled and it worked great, it didn't force overwrite anything with older versions. You can do this easily in Win Pro with gpd.sys and don't need to worry about the registry. If anyone needs tips on this please let me know in a comment).
    Raid has absolutely no benefit for game loading times, and furthermore, to take advantage of the transfer speed in file copies, you'd need a source or destination drive just as fast, and that's not going to happen. i.e. the entire thing is pointless and I hope MSI think that one through and offer us G-Sync instead next time LOL.
    (Just to clarify, Crystal Disk Mark gave me 11.5K Read and 10.5K write in Raid 0 mode, and as two identical Samsung 2TB non raid disks they both get the same exact score of 7.1 Read and 5.5 Write).

    $3900, is too much. I get it, it's a high-end laptop, but wow. I bought a gaming laptop a few years ago. It wasn't "top of the line" but it was pretty decent. I paid about a 30% premium over building my own, but I wanted the laptop because I travel between 2 homes and didn't want to spend 2x building 2 gaming machines. At $3900 it's close to 2x what it would cost to build my own gaming rig, so it makes the decision that much harder. I could build 2 desktop machines for around that same price and probably get a little better performance (and less noise).

    If you watch jarrod tech's recent video, he shows that in 4050,4060 and 4070 laptop GPUs, they dont perform any better if they have higher TDP. All these 3 laptop GPUs performance maxed out at 100w. The reason is these GPUs hit voltage limit. So no point purchasing higher TDP GPUs when you looking for these 3 GPUs.

    I know this is not on topic, but I wanted to put a couple of M.2 SSDs on your radar, if they aren't already. The Solidigm P44 Pro and Solidigm P41 Plus are getting quite a bit of attention with their claims of performance improvement after new drivers and software were released. I can say with almost 100% certainty that Solidigm P41 Plus is a renamed SK Hynix P41 Platnium and the Solidigm P44 Pro is an improved follow up SSD to the P41.

      As an owner for the previous MSI Raider with a 3080 (16gb) at 155w, I've always found this argument very strange. If you can afford it, this is a wonderful desktop replacement for those who travel or even move. Most desktops were not as powerful as the laptop I have now when I bought it. In terms of absolute performance and power efficiency a powerful gaming laptop is still an over win when replacing almost any older desktop, I game at both 4K120hz and 1080p 360hz. Most people don't buy new computers every year, every other year, or even every three years. There aren't too many desktops that were available in 2019 that will run better than this laptop!

    • @Cheesyonmytoasty

      I travel 6-7 months out of the year for work and am always based out of hotels so carrying a pc setup around would be a huge pain. Having a gaming laptop is a huge convenience for me and worth paying a little extra. Gaming laptops have also drastically improved these last few years. I just bought this laptop with i9 w/ 4080 32gb ram for 3k. Im amazed at how cool this one runs compared to my previous msi laptop with a 2070 super. And the performance is just wild. Very happy with my purchase :)

    • @brennanIX
      @brennanIX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They ABSOLUTELY make sense. I basically live out of hotels for work, I've been home maybe a total of a week since the beginning of 2023.
      I wanted a top of the line PC with the best and latest CPU and top of the line RTX 40 series. Carrying around whole ass setup with KB&M, monitor, tower, etc just completely impractical, and essentially impossible. When driving, I guess I COULD, but I never know when I'm gonna have to fly.
      I got this laptop with the 4090, and 13980hx processor, running at the full wattage for the CPU and mobile 4090. My mouse, wrist pad, mouse pad, headset, charging brick, and controller all fit into a compact backpack, so it doesn't ad much to all of my luggage, and I'm getting basically desktop performance on a decently large screen.
      Would I much rather have spent $4k on a desktop with better specs, sure, but then it would have just sat at home and I'd only get to use it a few weeks out of the year.
      So, to me it not only makes complete sense, but was pretty much my only option. I think the price was also worth it, given it's cutting edge tech and you pay a premium to get it at release.
      As for the one being reviewed, yeah that's definitely a ripoff. For $200 more you can get it with a 4090 and 13980hx instead of a 4080 and 13950hx. Not sure why anyone would actually but that model. If you're already spending $3800, why not just spend the extra $200 get a not insignificant increase in specs? If you want to save money, go with the versions with the 13950 and 4070 for only 2k. My nephew has that model and he can get pretty close to the same fps in many games, just with the resolution set to 1200p instead of 1600p, and DLSS on balanced instead of quality.

      @@TechTesters I have done stress test in 3d Mark too and in different game test, it's staying around 150W using extreme performance, using OC in extreme performance as well. The result is same varying between 130W and 150W. Barely touching 150W at demanding scenarios.Important thing I noticed is CPU wattage staying around 75W so overall generating around or close to 225W total power between cpu and gpu. Contacted MSI, they told to do EC reset. I will also check if dynamic boost on or off in nvidia control centre. This problem I have seen from many youtube reviewers too this year regarding MSI Raider GE78HX only.
