1970 Chevy C10 350 3 speed driving

- This was the first time I've gotten to drive a 3 speed on the column in a long time so it was a real blast! The truck has a 350, 3 speed manual, power steering, manual brakes and lap belts

Learned to drive 68 chevy pickup 3 on the column. I'm in my 60s now but still remember when, it was fun driving that truck no power steering or ac in it.
This one has power steering! But no AC or power brakes haha. I had a 68 model once upon a time as well!
My dad taught me on a 70's C10 with a 3 on the tree. He said, "if you can drive a column shifter, you can drive practically anything" and he was right. I have a 5 speed stick in my truck to this day. Hearing the squeak pressing and releasing the clutch pedal brings back great memories. Thank for NO annoying background music.
I love it! And yeah if you can navigate your way around a sloppy old column shifter then you can probably figure anything else out without too much trouble lol. I also hate the annoying generic background music and I'll never use it!
I am 70 years old. During my childhood years cars with 3 speed column shifts were common. Back then the 3 speed column shift manual transmission was called the standard transmission. That was because this transmission was standard on American Brand cars, the automatic was optional at extra cost.
Yeah, lots of cars used to have them. Anymore most people have never seen one; a buddy of mine was riding with me right after I got the truck and ge thought it was an automatic because of the gear shifter being on the column and didn't understand why I kept shifting haha
brings back memories. after my mother remarried my step uncle Gary had a 1984 Chevy C10, 250 I6 3 on the tree, which I believe that was last year Chevy made the inline 6 with a 3 speed. That was one of the vehicle's I learned on when I was 16, around the family farm. This would've been in 2005. Being up in Southeast Michigan the harsh winters and salty roads took a toll, the rust was so severe you could see the road, from the floorboard while driving, ended up scrapping the truck around 2007 or '08. but the engine and transmission were practically bulletproof. Most people my age probably have never seen a 3 on the tree, let alone driven one. But they were fun, and worked well with bench seats which many were in many American cars and trucks from a bygone time. Great for a romantic time at the drive in movie, also don't see too many of them anymore.
I just got a '78 c10 that came from Michigan with a 250 inline 6 and automatic! It is super, super crusty but runs beautiful. I love the 3 speed on the column, most people can hardly even grasp the concept when I show it to them lol. I'm not sure what the last year was for the straight 6, but I did find am article the other day on an 86 model Chevy truck with a 4.3 v6, 3 on the tree and Silverado trim!
"3 on the Tree!!" My dad had this same truck when I first got my driver's license. Mom's car was a 69 Olds Delta 88, with the Rocket 455. When I had a date (rarely - LOL) seemed like Dad's work truck was my ride. Full contact driving with the manual 3 speed, no power steering and no AC. No hanky panky in that front seat! Only an AM radio to boot.
I remember Dad's truck always smelling like coffee, cigs, and greasy stuff.
Thank you for the view of how to drive 3 on the tree. I will be acquiring a '72 c10, and this is the transmission it has. I was wary at first, but it doesn't seem too difficult. I know floor manual, just a different position I suppose! Thanks again!

I finally squirted a little bit of oil on mine and got it to stop, it was driving me crazy haha 😂

Does the 3 speed bolt right up to the 350? Or did u need an adapter plate?
As long as it has a Chevrolet bell housing it will bolt right up. They do take a different style start than an automatic or sm420/465 4 speed though.
So for everyone who wants it and the same thing I know it is a good thing for
having only 3 gears, do you feel that the engine is required? , I mean if it lacks a fourth gear? or feel comfortable in your walk
It feels good around 50-55 but upwards around 65 or 70 it leaves you feeling like it needs another gear

@@gonzalofigueroacampos5526 No problem! It should also be noted that my truck has 3.73 axle gears. If it has something higher like a 3.08 it would probably cruise nice at 70 mph
I have a 350 too, do you think its a good daily driver ?
As long as it's running good I don't see why not. Mine runs great and I keep the maintenance up on it and drive it all the time.
