OMG - thanks so much , 70 Chevy C10. Was my Father in laws and he passed away and it is now my wifes. For better than a year I havent had a solid 2 nd gear and almost never went into 3rd at all. I followed your instructions and now shifting like a champ. I just drove it all over town on main roads for the first time. Drove it to her work and parked at the front window, she about fell over when she saw it. Cant thank you enough for this video!!!!
I like how about halfway through you just stopped explaining what you were doing. And how the video is just far enough away that I can't see what you're doing on my cellphone 🤣
I have a question. On my 61 Chevy pickup it started jamming about a year ago. I’m assuming the passage holes you’re referring to are the square holes? If so the problem with mine is they aren’t north south out of adjustment it’s east west. They are not even close if that’s the correct slot. I’ve tried everything I’ve gotten it to shift many times but it’ll keep jamming after a week or so. I really need help with this. Any info ? One linkage is straight while the other is z shaped.
Thanks for the video. I have a 67 c10 that I got stripped down and just set back together loosely without all the hardware. My question is about the rod ends where they attach to the lower column. I have the rods, the heim joint bolts and the nuts for them along with the bushings in the levers. No Matt how tight I crank down on the nut the rods still move through the joints. What holds the rods to the bolts? Is there supposed to be a clamp for the rod?
@@shortcutgarage I am very, very please, finally I was able to fix my 1964 Chevy pickup C 10 according to instructions on the video Three in the Tree linkage adjustment. Excellent orientation. God bless you.
Im wanting to put a chevy 3 speed on my 1940 nash to keep it 3 on the tree since they make nothing for the nash im going to a sbc 9 inch etc but would like to keep it 3 on the tree think it could be done ive looked it up ive done 3 on the tree to auto with a cable but cant find anything for converting an old extinct car brand to like a 80s 3 speed
Do you know which brands or/and models of vehicles use this particular type of three-on-the tree transmission linkage? Suggestion: Maybe you could create a video about how to minimize dropping parts and tools while working on vehicles.
@shortcutgarage sir I don't know if I'm getting through to you, but I appreciate your help and will be more than glad to pay you for them please let me know if your getting this message kind regards Gary

Man that’s awesome!! Glad it helped!! Keep that old truck rolling!!
I picked up a 55 Chevy and it's been a challenge shifting. I think this will help me. Thank you very much, great video.
I hope it helps!!
My 76 kept getting stuck in 3rd when trying to shift from 2nd to first. This helped me fix that. Thank you
I glad it could help!!
Very Helpful video for my 68 Chevy Nova Three on the Tree L6 230cu.Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for this!
I've got a new (to me) 1960 chevy c10 that I'm just starting to work on.
That’s awesome!! Good luck with your project!!
You should also check the bushings on the transmission shift arms as well as the bushings on the shift rods at the end of the steering column.
Good call
You're like the Neil Degrasse Tyson of 3 on the trees with that 'stache😎
Hahahaha
Great video! Now I can adjust my 59 Chevy Apache
Best of luck to you!
Great video. This was very helpful. Thank you!
I’m glad it could help someone
Thanks so much for the vid i was just able to adjust the gears on my 74 chevy van g10
Good to hear! I always hope someone can be helped by one of these videos!
@@shortcutgarage question! Do you know where i can find new bushings/washers for the shift gear linkage to the transmission?
@@Impulse282 I’ve had luck just hitting a transmission shop for them
Tiered of aftermarket shifter that don't last; oving parts are exposed to the elements. Restoring my 3 on three. Useful info

Have a 65 c10 Do you happen to know anything about them popping out of 3rd gear any fixes apart from a rebuild kit.
Sounds like it’s not adjusted correctly, rod closest to the front of the vehicle needs to be lowered most likely

I have a 1971 C10. The "Brake" light on the bottom of the fuel gage is illuminated and won't turn off. Do you know what that means? Thanks!
very helpful do you have one for the gearshift getting stuck in 2nd gear? or not going into 2nd gear
Usually it’s because of the slop at the column. Tighten it up and watch it smarten up soooooo many things.
Could always change the column to match, that or floor shifter. Would be cool to incorporate the original column though

Chevy, GMC, Ford, Dodge not sure about the smaller brands
@@shortcutgarage The linkage on my '50 Plymouth was different from the linkage on my ' 64 Dodge Dart. The '50 was much better!
My 51 is popping out of 2nd gear when excellerating. Could i use a linkage adjustment?
Likely out of adjustment yep!
Which truck are you working on? Does this work on Ford too? I have a ‘64 F100 that has shift issues. Great video.
This is a 71 Chev but yes. Very similar
Would the process be the same for a 1961?
Absolutely
I have 63 gmc step side with column shifter problems any way we can exchange info

Please im in need of the swivels on the linkage rods anyone know where i can get them mine is 67 c10
You mean the plastic bushings?
Sir I mean the ones that adjust length of the shift rods and are pinned to the shfter
No they are called swivels the make it possible to adjust the length of the shift rods to the transmission
@@garyteeters-ok3hc send me a message on Facebook or insta, I’ll send you a set of good used ones I’m taking off my current column

To switch out the linkage would I have to remove the whole column??
Good question. I’ve never swapped them Out. They have always been able to be adjusted

@@el_royal_dab9791 by linkage do you mean the rods?
Yes
@@el_royal_dab9791 you definitely do NOT need to take out the column. You likely need to just adjust the rod, lengthen or shorten at the column side
What year and vehicle are you adjusting?
I think this was on my 68 GMC 1/2 ton
My 69 used to always get hung up. Biggest pain in the ass. Especially since my e brake didn’t work
