Shōgun - Episode Four Review "The Eightfold Fence"

My impressions of Episode Four of the new FX adaptation of James Clavell's classic historical drama Shōgun.
Blackthorne and Mariko test their new alliance as they train Toranaga’s gun regiment for war. Yabushige must navigate his past promises to Ishido when an old friend comes to the village.
FX’s Shōgun, based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel, is set in Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. “Lord Yoshii Toranaga” (Hiroyuki Sanada) is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

We all feared that I'm sure, but so far in my opinion it has remained true to the source material other than narrative compression and one or two small details.
