  • Gen 3 and Gen 4 Tacoma’s have the same number of lugs and spacing. Wheel offset is different and some people say the wheel studs and bolts are larger on the Gen 4 and won’t interchange.
At least for stock rims, they will. Maybe not for aftermarket.
In 4WD, the same type and size of tire is needed for all driven wheels to minimize drive train wear and handling issues. Keeping the stock tires for now so need to change the tire on the Gen 3 rim to match the diameter of the Gen 4 BFG Trail Terrain T/A 265/70 R17 rims.
Train Terrain T/A’s will handle 99% of what the pickup will be on and deliver good mileage and performance on pavement. T/A’s reviews say they’re good for up to moderate trails but can’t deliver the same performance level as an off road tire. In the future may buy or rent bigger rims and tires for when they’re needed. Pickup will haul more groceries and lumber on pavement than anything else so fuel efficiency is a high priority.
Trail Terrain T/A’s have on the bottom two steel belts wrapped in nylon and two polyester belts that go up into the interlinked side lugs. The sidewalls have two polyester belts. Typically only air down to 25 PSI or 1.7 Bar to fully engage the side lugs but not expose the side walls as much to damage or punctures. Gives a nice contact area without losing to much ground clearance.
