Changing Spacer Lift On 2024 Or Gen 4 Tacoma Or Fixing A Mistake
Lost ground clearance with the RCI skid plates on the 2024 Tacoma and want to gain some of it back in the front. Ideally would install adjustable leveling shocks with increased travel to lift the front and back but they’re outside of my budget for now. Low cost alternative is to use a spacer on top of the front shock.
Normally a spacer lift cause shock damage because the shock bottoms out before the bump stocks on the frame. Gen 4 Tacoma shocks have the bump stops incorporated into the front shock. Doesn’t affect rebound and compression so the ride will remain the same.
Pickup has 1.6” or 4 cm height difference between front and rear, thought it was 2” or 5 cm so ordered the 1.25” or 3.2 cm lift spacer. Want to keep the vehicle at least level while hauling a full load or trailer so actually need a 1” or 2.54 cm spacer.
By the time you pay shipping back and a 15% restock fee, it’s cheaper to thin the spacer down to get a 1” lift! You could do this by hand, but taking the easy way and milling it. This does void the warranty but it’s a hunk of aluminum so not much can go wrong.
If you have a small or mini mill, this end mill lets you take off a lot of metal quickly without overloading your mill.
Bonus footage of the T Town Case Clowns working on the pickup. Watch for their national tour at the big top and your local garage.
For the install you’ll need two pry bars, sockets and wrenches, ratchet, hammer, a long screw driver or rod to push bolts out, and a torque wrench capable of 250 ft-lb.
Torque ratings I found online are:
Shock top bolts: 14 mm, 33 ft-lb
Shock bottom bolt: 19 mm, 133 ft-lb
Sway bar: 19 mm, 103 ft-lb
Steering link: 19 mm, 89 ft-lb
Upper ball joint: 19 mm, 92 ft-lb
Lower ball joint: 22 mm, 221 ft-lb

DIY Low Cost 2024+ or Gen 4 Tacoma Rear Recovery Points
มุมมอง 3614 วันที่ผ่านมา
Thank you subscribers and viewers, over 250,000 views on the channel! Adding DIY rear recovery points to the 2024 or Gen 4 Tacoma. 2024 or Gen 4 Tacoma 4 Link Bracket Skid Plates
มุมมอง 3821 วันที่ผ่านมา
Making prototype skid plates for the lower four link brackets of the 2024 Tacoma back axle suspension. Short video because it’s super simple, two flat plates and two bolts. Odds of hitting the lower brackets is low due to the rear tire lifting the vehicle up as it goes over something. Have seen people crush the lower brackets and even have a gouge in one of mine. The lower brackets are part of ...
Greenlane Offroad Aluminum Rock Sliders Overview And Test

Liked the Greenlane Offroad aluminum rock sliders on my Gen 3 Tacoma so much I got them for my Gen 4 Tacoma. DIY Ultra Low Cost Axle Exhaust Dump For 2024+ Tacoma

One of my biggest dislikes about the 2024 Tacoma is the big, ugly, and bright shiny metal that catches your eye first, resonator and exhaust tip. DIY Sand and Mud ladders are made of used 1” square tubing 1/16” thick or 2.54 cm by 1.6 mm. Would be better if they were made from ½” square with 1/8” sidewalls or 12.7x3.2 mm but metal was free. Gen 3 and Gen 4 Tacoma’s have the same number of lugs and spacing. Wheel offset is different and some people say the wheel studs and bolts are larger on the Gen 4 and won’t interchange. That was such a cool discovery for me a few years back (Swedish Fire Log). Use them all the time now outdoors. Kobalt 12 inch for me, and 40v batteries. I found a place on Amazon that is called UpForest, and they had a 3 pack of 12 inch chains much cheaper than buying one genuine Kobalt replacement chain. Mine's an R45, but they carry most sizes that I can tell. Glad I tried it. Sharp as heck, and so far have not had any problem with the first one I used. Just FYI.

  • @FoxMan777
    @FoxMan777 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Similar to what I did with mine, but I didn't use the reinforcement plate and bolt, just welded a knife edge like you made there to the splitting point, and ground it down to a sharp point. Sticks out about an inch and a half. Wanted a good bite into the wood before it hits the wedge sides and starts separating. Haven't had any issues yet other than my front seal is going bad after 5 years. :)

  • @FoxMan777
    @FoxMan777 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I did similar on mine. Two things I did were change out those Iron Caster wheels for HF 4 Inch Rubber wheels with some drilling and some bolts for axles, and then welded a knife edge piece of metal at the tip of the weld and then ground it sharp. I see from your newer video you did similar. ;) I need to find a seal kit for it though as it is five years old now, and the front seal has gone bad and leaks a lot now. As for the axe comments, yeah okay, enjoy yourself. I have arthritis and this saves me a ton of pain. Your mileage may vary.

    Question: When did you purchase this 10-ton Harbor Freight manual unit? I bought mine 4 years ago and it had no such crappy welds on the cutting edge of the cutter head! If mine had had such a mess, I would have exchanged it for another that did not have that problem. Glad you were able to over come it. When I get in rounds and they are too heavy for me to put them on my table at 3 feet tall, I am 74 years old, I work it on to this unit and spllt the log one time. Then I can lift them onto the table with my HF 5 ton electric splitter!

    • @t-towncase3808
      @t-towncase3808 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Since I don't split that much wood, and it was on sale, it was the cheapest I could buy. Most low-end imports like these have this kind of welds.

      Did you just skim the video or something? Those "Crappy welds on the tip of the cutting edge" didn't come with the splitter, those were added so he could grind down a sharp edge from them. I mean, that's the whole point of his video... ???

    Glad I found this as I'm getting into the midst of a full resto-mod on my 1976 Case 446. Previous owner did a really nice job of restoring the Onan, but unfortunately in the end filled the hydraulic system with ATF. So I'm just puling it all apart and fixing the missing or maladjusted. Any advice on alternatives to the now overpriced and under-available muffler or hydraulic cooler? I was thinking a plate type cooler from Derale would be more efficient maybe even better with an electric fan?

    • @t-towncase3808
      @t-towncase3808 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look for swamp boat mufflers for Onan's, they may fit. Hydraulic cooler has internal fins in the tubes so the fluid is spun to the outside walls for increased cooling, don’t know if these are available from anyone else. You can find used hydraulic coolers on ebay but would flush them thoroughly before use and install the filter and filter bracket from an Ingersoll/Case 3000 or 4000 series to protect the pump.

I have found that the 235/85R 16 tires have the same diameter that you show in your figures of 30.5" overall diameter. They are about 150.00 each but will try them. Your video helped with trying to figure out what to do about the missing original rims and tires. Thanks!

    This wouldn't work with the Chimera that I have. :(

    I have a ingersoll hcs24 that I bought several years ago. Do I need a case tractor with hydraulics to actually use this chipper?

      Hydraulic powered only. You could modify it or resell it as they're hard to find.
