If only Thomas Barnes knew that 160 years after this game was played thousands of people would be analyzing his play and commending him for holding his own against a chess legend.
This is how all my games go I attack and do good like Barnes until somewhere deep in the middle game I realized that I failed to calculate and blundered the game away.
@@gasaidjohn3499 I don't play too much but I would guess 1200-1300 playing against engines I play in the 1500-1700 range but I draw more than I win unlike at 12-1300 but it only makes sense to play higher rated opponents that dont blunder more than once handing me the game.
Playing against the engine really isn't a good idea, because at weaker levels they play weird and strong levels, well, they play like engines! There's no scope for using tactics with them. Play against humans, you'll lose, of course, but you'll learn for sure. And always analyse your games afterwards so that you don't make the same mistakes twice.
He's getting up in to the realms of Frank James Marshall and dare I say even Joseph Henry Blackburne as one of my favourite players I'd have never known without Agadmator.

Old chess games are way more beautiful and attractive than present games,,, nowdays, chess is all about studying and theory which is actually pretty boring,, That's why, I will always consider morphy the greatest chess player of all times with the greatest talent...

Morphy plays the Morphy's Defence in the Ruy Lopez. Everyone: "HE DID IT!, HE DID IT!" Poor old Barnes. Again with the unbridled aggressive attitude. All those knights moves allowed him to get a full rook advantage, but at the cost of allowing Morphy full development, and beautifully placed Bishops for an attack on the Kingside. Another game which teaches us the principle of "Try not to move the same piece in the opening".

There aren't many players anymore who will actually let their opponents play out the whole sequence of their checkmate like Barnes. I will admit i am also guilty of sometimes resigning when I see a checkmate coming through. Great respect to players who play all the way.
The positiv about being not very good is I don’t see it coming neither does my opponent and missing forced mates also happens on the regular so always reason to play it out haha

The Barnes Gambit, sadly refuted. When I was in my early forties, I lost 70 pounds in 4 months. Then I took up weightlifting (for toning, not bulk), aerobics, etc. For several years I was probably the fittest mid-forties man in my town. I did a LOT of walking (no running -- why destroy my shins and feet?). However, I suspect Barnes went on a starvation diet, and didn't balance out his weight loss with healthy eating and moderate exercise. Also, I wonder if he was a drinker and/or a smoker. That right there would have made a difference. Sadly, I'm in my mid-sixties now, and my glory days are gone.

I agree the way you did it is definitely the correct way to go - restricting any unfavourable diet elements while still maintaining vitamin/mineral/necessary protein/carb intake and working out. As you said, Barnes lived in another era altogether so it's likely that his diet was not the best. Starvation diets are very harmful, particularly in older individuals.
The Morphy Defence (3... a6) is actually quite a dynamic move. It was long since known even before Morphy that removing the immediate defence of the e5 pawn cannot win it. The latent black queen protects it as well. So, what's so great about Morphy's defence? The biggest advantage is that it prepares b4 and further refutes the Lopez bishop in its futile sortie of the once removed attack on black's center. Also, the longest analyzed opening lines in chess arise from it. The old Chigorin defense being the most orthodox. It's a clock saving tactic to play the Chigorin as it has a standard line going beyond 15 moves or more!
I had a question whether the Magnus Carlsen invitational tour is a FIDE certified tournament tour (eg. Legends of chess ?) i.e does it affect the FIDE ratings of the players ?

What a fun game! All of these Morphy-series games have been entertaining, but this one is exceptional even among those.
Morphy is a master of keeping the tension. He delays his gratification with a deadly combination of patience and precision.

I agree the way you did it is definitely the correct way to go - restricting any unfavourable diet elements while still maintaining vitamin/mineral/necessary protein/carb intake and working out. As you said, Barnes lived in another era altogether so it's likely that his diet was not the best. Starvation diets are very harmful, particularly in older individuals.
The Morphy Defence (3... a6) is actually quite a dynamic move. It was long since known even before Morphy that removing the immediate defence of the e5 pawn cannot win it. The latent black queen protects it as well. So, what's so great about Morphy's defence? The biggest advantage is that it prepares b4 and further refutes the Lopez bishop in its futile sortie of the once removed attack on black's center. Also, the longest analyzed opening lines in chess arise from it. The old Chigorin defense being the most orthodox. It's a clock saving tactic to play the Chigorin as it has a standard line going beyond 15 moves or more!
