No, no, no, no. You got wrong. See, Barnes KNEW Ben would lecture chess students over a century later, so he kindly demonstrated what not to do. Anything else would just be silly.

Well yes, it was impossible for Barnes to know unless he was also a prophet as Finegold was born many years following the departure of Mr. Barnes 😅

That guy attracts viewers who attach their ego to their chess rating, then wrongly project their insecurities on to these heroes. Morphy and Barnes aimed to play and win in style, not to win. Taking risks to do that didn't scare them, because they didn't have a childish attitude to defeat in a boardgame.

same, my ideal video length for agad is 15-20 mins (shorter if a blitz game, longer if a very important game like candidates, finals, men and women's world championships) so I like when he updates some of these great games he did earlier so they are longer than the 6-8min format.

Morphy CRUSHED the best players of his time, taking chess as a childhood past time... retiring at 13 after smashing Lowenthal, coming out of retirement at 20 to kill time and show the chess world who was boss, he studied and played little chess by any chess master standar and so was at the BEGINNING of his true chess potential, yet was essentially invincible... as Anderssen himself said so... yeah the greatest chess genius in history

what impressed me in this game was the defensive resilience of mr barnes , espacially those pawn moves on the king side in the opening and midlle game , he knew exactly what he was doing , probablly he expected those moves because he played f6 alot in his life , but still that was impressive , he was like petrosian in disguise

For every standard opening, there had to have been a game where it was played for the first time. Maybe do a series showing those games?

Actually some openings, like Italian, Spanish, Sicilian, are so old that to find first game played like this is impossible.

I think Morphy got overconfident after his opponent played such an strange opening. In the end, the situation was that Morphy got ahead in development, but he was unable to exploit it, and after simplification, all he got was that he had a more centralized position, but with a pawn down. Barnes then showed great technique in converting the advantage into victory.
Two lessons are learned from this game. First: If you are ahead in development, try to refrain from trades. I think after Morphy played Qxd8, all his advantage in development began to evaporate. In the end, Barnes managed to catch up to Morphy. An important strategic lesson.
Second: In endgames without major pieces, Bishops are better than Knights. Morphy allowed the trade, and then his position was completely doomed. This game is a nice example of how to convert an endgame in such situation.
So, as usual, Morphy is always teaching us lessons in chess, even when he loses.

@@pozzowon Indirectly. Twitch itself doesn't make sounds like that, but it's the default sound StreamLabs (a web service Twitch streamers like to use) has for getting a new follow. Antonio must have his recording software somehow playing that notification even when NOT streaming, and not showing it visually... which frankly makes no sense and is completely avoidable (heck, you'd have to WORK at it to make that happen). So that sound is triggered by people following his Twitch channel while he's recording this and being very silly.

i just had a realization - the number at the end of the video's title isn't the elo of the players, it's the year the game was played. i've watched like 100 of your videos and i've just now come to this. it takes effort to be as smart as i am

It was a weak opening by Barnes, but he played it with a nice plan, after this e5 break he was already at least equal. Morphy responded inaccurately, but I'm sure he was not well prepared. F6 can be a reasonable opening move. Black can just continue with g6, Bg7, Nh6-f7, d6 and e5, this is a reasonable set up.
