But that is based on gold which is the only consistent commodity for reference during this entire time. If it was fiat currency it would probably be worth much more.
@@rahulkhanduri2471 Unfortunately that doesnt work because the commodity prices of the materials to manufacture goods also varies a lot over time and are geographically dispersed in terms of demand/supply. A little bit of searching suggests that there is no good data for inflation in France from 1858. However, the dollar inflation since then is approximately 31 times; that is that $1 in 1858 would buy $31 of goods today. So you could use that as an approximate rule of thumb, making the value of 1,500 Francs approximately the equivalent of 46,500 Francs today, however the Franc was exchanged for the Euro at a rate of 6.55 making the 46,500 worth about 7,100 Euro. Alternatively we could use the fact that the Franc was made containing 0.29g gold, giving a total value of 435g of gold. Gold is currently worth around $57/g, which translates to around 47 Euro/g. So using the value of the gold within the coins the 1,500 Francs would be worth in the region of 20,450 Euro. Another method would be to compare things like wages, rent and food costs. According to wikipedia for the average French citizen in Paris a daily wage would be 3.25-6 Francs, food 1 Franc and lodgings 75 Centimes (daily). For the sake of simplicity we will assume that working hours are the same as they are now (they would have been longer in 1858) and that based off the French minimum wage the standard worker earns 80 Euro/day. Using the salary comparison, and taking 5 Francs as the standard wage, 1,500 Francs is the equivalent of 24,000 Euro today. It seems that without access to better historical data for the inflation rates within France we will be unable to come up with any precise figure, but either way it was not an insignificant sum of money.

295 francs was 85 grams of gold back then, today that's worth about $5,000 US. Alternatively, I found an economics study that quoted the nominal daily wage for a craftsman in France in 1850-1859 as between 2.0 and 2.5 francs; 295 frances therefore represents something like 6 months wages for a craftsman (and more like a year for a labourer). 6 months at French minimum wage today is ~9,000 euros; 3 months at average wage is about the same. That's about $11,000 USD.
*AGADMATOR i got you answer here* You convert the Franks to the value of gold in 1858 which is $20 American per troy ounce. So one Frank can buy you one ounce of gold. The coins at the time were made from gold so it is almost a straight conversion. *US dollar value = $20 US times this by 295 Franks = $5900 US then using a inflation calculator, calculating from 1858 to 2021 = $190.600 in 2021.* *Gold value = one ounce is $1820 times times this by 295 frank gold coins and you get $536,900 in American dollars today.* In all honesty I think the gold conversion is the most accurate. $500,000 if you figure in the gold value of the frank coins, or $200,000 if you figure out the value of the US dollar.

Agadmator please can you do a Karpov series?! I'd love to see his progression from beginner to the most active world champion in the history of the game.
It's about 10,000 dollars my man! 3,300% increase which is 2% inflation over 170 odd years.
I know PM didn't have the contemporary theory but he slaughters so easily. So natural. I think he is as close to an AI, humans may ever produce!!
amazing game by Morphy
"He wasn't in it for the money, he just wanted to crush everyone" Yeah boi!

"but again he took a break, and morphy again.. has to deal with it." -ags
Morphy's life can be a netflix series
295 francs was 85 grams of gold back then, today that's worth about $5,000 US.
Alternatively, I found an economics study that quoted the nominal daily wage for a craftsman in France in 1850-1859 as between 2.0 and 2.5 francs; 295 frances therefore represents something like 6 months wages for a craftsman (and more like a year for a labourer). 6 months at French minimum wage today is ~9,000 euros; 3 months at average wage is about the same. That's about $11,000 USD.
Antonio is the kind of person that when makes money focuses and invest to innovate and offer a better product. Congrats!

*AGADMATOR i got you answer here*
You convert the Franks to the value of gold in 1858 which is $20 American per troy ounce. So one Frank can buy you one ounce of gold. The coins at the time were made from gold so it is almost a straight conversion.
*US dollar value = $20 US times this by 295 Franks = $5900 US then using a inflation calculator, calculating from 1858 to 2021 = $190.600 in 2021.*
*Gold value = one ounce is $1820 times times this by 295 frank gold coins and you get $536,900 in American dollars today.*
In all honesty I think the gold conversion is the most accurate.
$500,000 if you figure in the gold value of the frank coins, or $200,000 if you figure out the value of the US dollar.
