How long does that displate link last (or how long does it help you)? I've been looking to use someone's code to help them out but it's probably going to be another month before I actually order from displate.
Just FYI, if you are looking for a particular brand/genre at the displate site, don't give up to early! Try a variety of related search terms and you are likely to find a print related to your interests. As an example, I was looking for a print of Gypsy Danger (from Pacific Rim); while neither "Pacific Rim" nor "Jaeger" got me where I wanted, I had success with "Kaiju".
To be fair, including what was missed wouldn't have gotten any of the boxes out of the hall of shame. Even allowing for the few elder dragons to appreciate since release barely helps. Prof and team are usually really good with the totals on these videos (so I hope they aren't too disheartened by us pointing out the misses). I think with how low value these boxes are, the usual care wasn't necessary to show the average value one might expect.

@@DefconLives I would disagree in general with that statement for Kamigawa. That set had a lot of value spread pretty evenly across multiple cards. This set is 100% Ancient Dragons or bust and even then, getting Ancients isn't likely to help recoup the "value" back. Flavor of this set is good but the value is hot garbage.
I would like to see a committed fan, not me, record all the cards opened in these videos into a spreadsheet and come back on a yearly basis and post a comment saying how much more the box is worth now.
I think this set will creep up in value over time, so it's a great time to grab some of the reprints. Wayfarer's Bauble, Nature's Lore, Swiftfoot Boots, Kindred Discovery, Blade of Selves, and Battlebond lands had decently high prices (and should increase in value over time). But pick those up as singles.
@Tolarian Community College, could be a fun series, revisiting the past boxes seeing what tanked or went to the moon. I would gladly crunch all the numbers and create tables in spreadsheets. (Currently using spreadsheets in a portion of my app development)
I like this set- the disappointment is hilarious! Heck i bout a set box and my fave cards in singles so it was fun, won a draft for once too! Love the initiative, undercity and dungeons in general. Didnt pull a single ancient dragon lol- who cares! Throwing hamsters is where its at!
There was a pricing mixup with Wheel of Sun and Moon not getting priced properly and the Morphic Pool not showing a price at all. Wheel actually showed Morphic's price, so Wheels $7.69 price was skipped.
Well, I`m halfway through the Video and all I can say is: Buy the draftbox! I had so much fun with this draft experience... I gathered my friends and we had the most fun commander game we ever had. Thanks to the mirror, blade of selves and commanders+backgrounds. We had dragons, horrors, spellslingers and all that.
CLB Set Booster boxes really demonstrate that maybe not every set needs a set box. Likely fans of the drafting experience wouldn't have their opinions drowned out as much if it was like TSR, draft only.
It's basic statistics, the first three were unlucky and therefore the 4th MUST be the lucky one! Unless of course that luck is being saved up for a mondo-jackpot 5th box...
Something has gone wrong... with the value addition of the last box. Ink-Eyes was shown with a value of $28. Yet the box value went DOWN a couple of dollars, so the less-than-ten-dollar value of the box was not correct.
That ingenious composition of Firbolg Flutist on the last booster of the last box when the price is as low as $7.53 while playing Meatball parade! I absolutely love, what you did there!
I personally pulled 5 Mythics in a bundle, the most I've ever pulled from one. (I buy at least 1 bundle every set.) You'd think that would mean I at least got my money's worth on the individual cards in the bundle. You'd be wrong. The Mythics valued in total at around $10. The bundle around $20 entirely.
Thanks Prof! If this set isn't the perfect example for buying singles then I don't know what is. The one box I opened only had 17 packs in it instead of 18!
I have never before hoped to not hear any money sounds in a booster box game but near the end of that last box I was just hoping it'd stay below $10 just because of how insane that was.
The drop to 18 packs really hurts the value, much less chance to get hits. These set boxes are not much different than original draft boxes now. Except you can't draft as well with them.
I got value from my set box . . . because I sold the miscuts for $120 haha I generally am not a packs guy, but I love D&D and MtG, so I would have loved to crack more of it, but I'm just gonna buy the singles I need from here on out.
Hey Prof! Love the content. Suggestion for next set though, change the rules so you need to break the cost of one box over three boxes. Maybe then WotC's products would stand a chance. Keep it up!
I have followed all your content for a long while now. It's always great. I have always thought it would be interesting to take the lowest boxes you get from these videos and revisit them down the line to see if there is a significant change in them or if they just suck no matter the time lol
It’s pretty wild. I saw this after buying a couple collectors boxes and I pulled multiples of every elder dragon except the blue one and the value weighed against the investment hurt. New MTG enjoyer mistake 🤷🏽♂️ this teaches me a lot though, I only wish I’d seen it sooner. Thank you T.C.C. your knowledge has helped me a lot in getting started.
I can’t believe how many boxes the Professor went through. 😱 I realize I got super lucky with my 1st booster box by pulling copper and gold, along with extended Minsc.
Holy suit that third box was insane Just an absolute kick to the nuts of an mtg set, because they wanted to put all the good stuff that should have been in this set in quad masters.
Watching this was incredibly eye opening, i just started playing mtg and was going to purchase a box to go along wth the dragonic destruction precon i just picked up, but wow you really don't seem to get much, even equal value on average I'd be ok with. I know just getting singles is better but i wanted to just open up a bunch of cool dragon cards, but I don't think i could waste that much money just for that.
That last box was awful, but unless I'm mistaken I think you forgot to add the value of Ink-Eyes, which amazingly quadruples the box's value (ouch). Great video. I bought a single collector's booster and was lucky to break even (full art foil Battle Angels). Suffice it to say I'll quit while I'm ahead, and only buy packs to draft for this set.

Yup. My experience with a set box was pretty much on par with this. I did get the 5 battlebond lands I wanted, but the most expensive card I got was a list card and not from the actual set.
I got myself a draft booster box (store was out of set booster boxes) and managed to get 3 ancient dragons as well as an archivist so I'm personally happy with my purchases. Only thing I'm gonna buy from this set now is the precons
I (clueless like I was) bought a set booster box. Just for hitting 2 Ancient Dragons (white and red), Archivist, Kitty, 1 Morphic pool, The Temur Dragon, Hall of the Bandit Lord, the Devil Mythic with the extra combat ability, Blade of Selves and that's about it if you dont know the value of the stamped art cards which seem currently actually worth something. Also attended a draft before just to hit sea of clouds and a Nautiloid extended art.
Would you be willing to do a video where you do the booster box game with mutliple TCG's like Pokemon and Yugio, and compare the value? I LOVE these video's, hoping to see you on gameknights again soon!
On the one hand, it's a bummer to see just how little value there is in boxes... on the other, it's nice to know just how cheap some fun cards to get for a new commander deck can be! I suppose I can always upgrade one of my current decks...or build like 3 new ones. EDIT: My God, that music at the end of the last box was just sublime and fitting.
While this set is "low value" card to card, i had an absolute blast opening my box. Loads of fun ideas for decks and needed staples. Dont let the "fun" value go unmentioned.
I bet your local store was quite happy you got those boxes for 105. I see a lot of stores already trying to fire sale these at 90 or below. I like this set. In a way I'm glad it's cheap(er, still only 18 packs...)
I've done a draft with this set and purchased one extra draft pack from the same box we drafted from, and I pulled 2 Ancient Copper Dragons, one from the draft, one from the extra pack, and one of them was also foil. I got extremely lucky.

That's not too unlikely in set boosters. There are always a couple cards that share a common theme in each pack.

Set boxes were never needed. Pure greed, especially since the pulls are, on average, even worse, because you can't draft set boosters.

I got myself a draft booster box (store was out of set booster boxes) and managed to get 3 ancient dragons as well as an archivist so I'm personally happy with my purchases. Only thing I'm gonna buy from this set now is the precons
I (clueless like I was) bought a set booster box. Just for hitting 2 Ancient Dragons (white and red), Archivist, Kitty, 1 Morphic pool, The Temur Dragon, Hall of the Bandit Lord, the Devil Mythic with the extra combat ability, Blade of Selves and that's about it if you dont know the value of the stamped art cards which seem currently actually worth something. Also attended a draft before just to hit sea of clouds and a Nautiloid extended art.
The music for the last box is very fitting for the total amount lol

Man box 1, pack 17 was my favorite pack out of the whole video, so many diamonds in the rough ❤️

On the one hand, it's a bummer to see just how little value there is in boxes... on the other, it's nice to know just how cheap some fun cards to get for a new commander deck can be! I suppose I can always upgrade one of my current decks...or build like 3 new ones.
EDIT: My God, that music at the end of the last box was just sublime and fitting.
While this set is "low value" card to card, i had an absolute blast opening my box. Loads of fun ideas for decks and needed staples. Dont let the "fun" value go unmentioned.
Prof got so excited about that Ancient Gold Dragon in foil from the first box that he stumbled pass the Morphic Pool in front of it 🤪

I like this set. In a way I'm glad it's cheap(er, still only 18 packs...)

I've done a draft with this set and purchased one extra draft pack from the same box we drafted from, and I pulled 2 Ancient Copper Dragons, one from the draft, one from the extra pack, and one of them was also foil. I got extremely lucky.
I'm going to make a call. I think they will phase set booster boxes out.
