@Zeromus5555 that's a bad take. Standard play is dwindling, and WotC is losing player/customer trust quickly. So, unless a card is playable in another format, it's simply not going to command as high of value. The limited environment and flavor are a lot of fun though.
@@Zeromus5555 set is fantastic, but cdadamly is right. standard needs a shot in the arm to be relevant again, but unfortunately it's way easier to play it on arena than at an LGS so most people do it there, where cracking packs is irrelevant.

And not really sought after reprints at that. The decklists were spoiled over a month ago but since it's a product meant for new players and the reprints aren't really anything to write home about the news kind of drowned in the waves of Magic 30th anniversary anger and all the other product releases.
I love it when Brian just riff's and rambles off script. It's honestly the best, I wish you would do it more often man, you're so authentic it's endearing.
I mean even as a guy who kinda likes universe beyond and all the cross overs, throwing those cards in basic packs seems really wack. Especially since the art is so different from the rest of the set.
@@GabAssbreaker agree like grimlock. It makes me so mad that they just used Screenshots from the show. Thats so cheap, then again the Warhammer cards did sometimes the same thing. But Warhammer has great artists that paint the artworks for the book covers, artworks etc and their were also a lot of new original art. The Transformer cards are just lazy, its funny how GW cared more about Magic Art than Hasbro itself who owns both Magic and the Transformers brand.
So many commander staples that can be gotten in retro frames for pennies! Love it! Old frame, black border howling mine for example with original art only used to be alpha or beta.
I’m conflicted because boxes have such little value outside of a few chase card but at the same time singles prices are super low and a lot of the retro artifacts specifically are now affordable
I'm having so much fun with this set because of this! So many of the cards in the retro artifact slot have been on my EDH wishlist for ages, and they're now incredibly affordable.
Having just finished my own version of the 'booster box game' I was impressed with the quality of the foiling in this set, compared to a lot of the more recent ones. I also felt like the common and uncommon cards were the standouts, as they bring a lot of new, fun utility to Pioneer.

Okay, short summary (if it wasn't already obvious from watching the video): - He buys and opens a booster box - Sums the value of all the cards inside (that are worth $2 or more) - If the total value is more than enough to buy another box, he sells those cards and buys the box - Rinse and repeat until a box doesn't deliver enough value to keep going
You mean cheap magic cards like magic players want??? I don't know what people expect. Packs to have valuable cards but cards being cheap? Variant arts or alternate cards that drive collectors but benefit avg players. Then get upset with Transformer cards or too many variants? Is it just a state of being to be mad about everything? This set is full of both new interesting cards and sweet retro border reprints. Almost everything is cheap and accessible. This is a win- win- win.

A lot of the bulk rares you pulled are genuinely good cards. I think that had it released last year, this set would have had really good value. As it stands in year of our lord 2022, however, lack of player demand for these cards is probably driving prices way down.
That's because way less product was opened. How is cards being cheaper something people use as a negative? This is what magic players wanted, cheap cards. This is what happens when cards are cheap. It's not a lack of demand. It's an increase in printing.

Saying like: "I don't have time to create a deck myself, someone better did it for me, so why bother" so a select few will build decks for the average casual player It used to bother me at first, especially since i'm a jank player who builds deck for some cool synergies i found, and playing vs the same top tier deck is annoying. Now i just deal with it and let people be.

It's been while since I've watched one of these. I'm really liking all of the quality of life additions that I do not recognize: top card, pack number, and the descriptions for the alternate arts. Great job Prof! You always told us to try to be better, and I'm glad to see that you've been improving, too.
I always love the music choices in these vid's, they're always perfect to wind down and relax. I especially love the song at 30:00 with box 3, it's such a soft and serene way to watch someone not get their money back.

Booster packs ARE great for draft, and this set drafts INCREDIBLY well. I had a blast at prerelease and I'm getting a box of draft boosters to draft with my pod and eventually convert into a set cube.
These are set boosters. I hate that they exist. When I got some as a prize at my prerelease I was so disappointed. The draft boosters are great for this set tho.
THIS. People are calling out how worthless this set is but that’s a good thing! It means you can affordably get the singles and use the draft boosters to draft, of which I agree that this set is designed really well for and is fun. The RnD department is honestly killing it, it’s the marketing team that needs to be fired.
@@Wishuponapancake Not sure if sarcasm or not, but just in case: draft boosters are the “normal” booster packs that have existed before the set boosters (what is opened here) and collector boosters. boosters have always been designed to be drafted until these new ones came out, which are aimed more towards collecting (i.e. incentivizing gambling/discouraging buying singles from LGS)
If I had watched the first opening before getting a box I probably wouldn't have bought one. I did buy one and cracked Urza, Lord Protector and Gix. I'm glad you kept going, this set is great!

If Set Boosters aren't for drafting with, and are exclusively for "ah, that's a cool card" how does WotC justify the most basic of basic lands in these packs? Surely at a minimum they should be the extended art version, and possibly foiled if that floats your boat.

When serialized cards are selling for hundreds for a uncommon, it lowers the cost of everything else. Theres also list and the tramsformer alt arts amd alt art foils

I don't have to really keep going until we get a box that passes it may be not be possible with this set" and I would like to add to that quote: or with any Standard Set. Only a little bit of lore, medium story and medium art is what we get on these terrible sets. There's almost no cards to rescue from each of the standard sets in the past few years.

I love your magic content but the yugioh content with team APS has been wonderful. I’d love to see you do a booster box game on their channel with the next yugioh release.
This set is great, prices are low because they overprint the cards like crazy with even less demand, the last sets are all like that (apart from kamigawa), but the set is really powerful. Dominaria and brother's war were powerful sets. You don't know when they are going to sell the boxes half the price because they overprinted them, I play for fun, but if I buy a box for 110$ and they sell the same box at 50$ in amazon two months later I would be pissed. You can't have confidence in this company. They even refuse to talk about it. They don't invest a dime in players or tournaments while they ask why people don't play standard or want standard cards and they want to double their profit every year. They killed standard, it isn't arena, they did it and they are killing their golden goose.
When you start being able to get 3 rares in a pack, the average price for a rare starts plummeting. Who knew? Man I miss the days when there was only draft packs and everything you could get in a set was in those.
I like how the box insert was like “meet Urza! Meet Mishra!” Look, box, most of us playing the game already know them quite well, and for players who don’t, oh boy, I don’t know if a paragraph on a box insert will be enough…
As Prof always says, buy singles kids! Especially right now with sealed product being in the dumpster value wise. If you're going to buy BW boxes, wait a few weeks until WotC/Hasbro are dumpstering them on Amazon for 80 a box.

I'm happy that this set has cheap cards, I can buy them and the formats are still intact! Hell, the reprints seemed to be actually the majority of the value! I'm sure they'll go up over time.

I took the Prof advice fully with this set, and just bought singles. Probably bought more than I needed - literally everything I was remotely interested in - but I have no regrets about doing that over buying a box.

Remember the "good ol days" when a rare card was worth $3-$4 even if it was one nobody played, partly because people used to collect a whole set and well, it was RARE (and didn't have 6 different versions either)

I had no idea universes beyond was in this set and seeing a transformer in the first pack was perhaps the most jarring thing.
I found that extremely off-putting.
They could at least print them with a more fitting art, im dont want saturday morning cartoons on a set abour the freaking Brothers War.

I like the retro reprints as I can upgrade my kitchen table decks very easy with these reprints, and I don't mind the retro frame
Its amazing, the numbered cards caused mass cracks early and everything but the staples hit the floor
I regret buying a playset of Mishra's Bauble couple months ago

These are set boosters. I hate that they exist. When I got some as a prize at my prerelease I was so disappointed. The draft boosters are great for this set tho.
THIS. People are calling out how worthless this set is but that’s a good thing! It means you can affordably get the singles and use the draft boosters to draft, of which I agree that this set is designed really well for and is fun. The RnD department is honestly killing it, it’s the marketing team that needs to be fired.
I had a ton of fun playing the pre release sealed. Best limited set of the year for me. Kamigawa Neon Dynasty best art/aesthetic.

@@Wishuponapancake Not sure if sarcasm or not, but just in case: draft boosters are the “normal” booster packs that have existed before the set boosters (what is opened here) and collector boosters. boosters have always been designed to be drafted until these new ones came out, which are aimed more towards collecting (i.e. incentivizing gambling/discouraging buying singles from LGS)

If I had watched the first opening before getting a box I probably wouldn't have bought one. I did buy one and cracked Urza, Lord Protector and Gix. I'm glad you kept going, this set is great!

If Set Boosters aren't for drafting with, and are exclusively for "ah, that's a cool card" how does WotC justify the most basic of basic lands in these packs? Surely at a minimum they should be the extended art version, and possibly foiled if that floats your boat.

If you ever wanna play Warhammer 40k you'll need a very high paying job.
It will become a blessing and a curse for you and your wallet but well worth it. Save and save some more for those staple cards, pain/fetch lands and good quality sleeves! But don't let the hobby consume you, trust me lol. Good luck.

When serialized cards are selling for hundreds for a uncommon, it lowers the cost of everything else. Theres also list and the tramsformer alt arts amd alt art foils

Only a little bit of lore, medium story and medium art is what we get on these terrible sets. There's almost no cards to rescue from each of the standard sets in the past few years.
So what do you want? Standard decks that cost $1000 minimum? Power creep in every set? Because that's what you're asking for here.

I love your magic content but the yugioh content with team APS has been wonderful. I’d love to see you do a booster box game on their channel with the next yugioh release.
This set is great, prices are low because they overprint the cards like crazy with even less demand, the last sets are all like that (apart from kamigawa), but the set is really powerful. Dominaria and brother's war were powerful sets. You don't know when they are going to sell the boxes half the price because they overprinted them, I play for fun, but if I buy a box for 110$ and they sell the same box at 50$ in amazon two months later I would be pissed. You can't have confidence in this company. They even refuse to talk about it. They don't invest a dime in players or tournaments while they ask why people don't play standard or want standard cards and they want to double their profit every year. They killed standard, it isn't arena, they did it and they are killing their golden goose.
When you start being able to get 3 rares in a pack, the average price for a rare starts plummeting. Who knew? Man I miss the days when there was only draft packs and everything you could get in a set was in those.

As Prof always says, buy singles kids! Especially right now with sealed product being in the dumpster value wise. If you're going to buy BW boxes, wait a few weeks until WotC/Hasbro are dumpstering them on Amazon for 80 a box.

I'm happy that this set has cheap cards, I can buy them and the formats are still intact! Hell, the reprints seemed to be actually the majority of the value! I'm sure they'll go up over time.

I took the Prof advice fully with this set, and just bought singles. Probably bought more than I needed - literally everything I was remotely interested in - but I have no regrets about doing that over buying a box.

Remember the "good ol days" when a rare card was worth $3-$4 even if it was one nobody played, partly because people used to collect a whole set and well, it was RARE (and didn't have 6 different versions either)
I always love the booster box game for the comment of the professor about the result of the box. Could i suggest to do an analysis for the booster game until today?
