2017 Mercedes-Benz SUV GLS550 Unboxing - Why Isn't There A BMW Competitor?

- For today's unboxing review we have for you the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS550, a three-row, V8-powered SUV that BMW has no answer for (yet). Powered by an awesome 4.7-liter bi-turbo V8 with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, power goes to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission. With the sole exception of the mighty G-Class, the GLS-Class is the best and most expensive Mercedes SUV you can buy right now. How expensive, exactly? Our tester has a sticker price of $97,715. OK, but what about the cheapest GLS model, the GLS450? Try $69,000. No matter what, it's not cheap. And that's just fine because there's very little not to like about the GLS-Class.
Performance, as expected, is also incredible. Try a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds, and the thing weighs about 5,400 pounds! But performance isn't the GLS550's only strength. It comes with a ton of high-tech safety features and, yes, it can go off-roading (to a certain extent). But if you're looking for a luxury three-row SUV and are disappointed because BMW doesn't offer one and the Audi Q7 looks too much like a school bus, this is your answer. Enjoy the review!

2013&14 gl had the first optional 3 window panoramic sunroof, 2015-17 dropped the 3rd sunroof over the third row and just made it a 2 glass panoramic sunroof option
I actually like the 2 glass panoramic option.

That's not true. You can get an optional panoramic sunroof in the GLS & even on the original GL. It's just that your test car doesn't have that option installed

PERFECT!! I love your car videos so much! I also love the new gls 550! Do you think the Range Rover or the Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator is better? I think Lincoln Navigator is best. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! The Navigator?? Really?? No, I don't think it's best. It's old, dating back to 2007. However, a completely redesigned on will be out in 2018.
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars the 2016 navigator has tons of legroom in the 2nd and third row. I could fit 8 adults in the truck easily. Also when you open the door steps come out, also it has 22 inch wheels it is also the tallest SUV on the market today. It is great off-roading too
-BOSS - So does the Cadillac Escalade which in my opinion is much more luxurious and better looking.

The base price for the GLS550 is not $69k. It is approximately $94k.
C'mon Mercedes, Cadillac has captains chairs for the 1st and 2nd row. For this price there should be reclining seats.
You know, I noticed that too. Strange Mercedes doesn't offer a pair of captain's seats here.

I hate 2nd-row Captains' chairs. I prefer the bench seating that I have in my 2010 GL450.
Yup only after 2020 could you get them. Huge miss on this vintage of the 550

bmw needs something like a "X7" but to make a new car they a new plataform because use 7 series plataform will be expensive :/
They workin on a X7 it'll b released before 2020 and they working on a Rolls Royce first ever SUV my guess is they will prob share the same platform
I believe the upcoming X7 will be built on the same platform as the next generation X5.

I think the Q7 is much nicer than this car. The GLS is getting long on the tooth and it's practically the same as the first generation just a little different cuts around the edges. And this car is extremely over priced for very few features. The Audi is expensive but includes much more for the price. In my opinion the Q7 is the king of this segment.
The Q7 is also much newer than this, so I don't know if the Q7 is the best comparison anymore, honestly.
gotcoke795 can't compare. Q7 is midsize and gls is full size. Get your facts right
Interior space is not that different even if it is technically listed as a midsize so....
I have the 63 and its so much nicer than the Q7. More room and ease of use. Bigger engine, better sound, aggressive look, and hand built engine.
Your personal opinion about the two SUVs, but I totally disagree with you. I have both and nothing beats the elegance in the Mercedes.
This Suv is just not it compared to other top end luxury Suv's. Too much plastic and boring interior design l. The exterior design as well is no way as good as a Range Rover the best seller in this category really. The Lexus Lx 570 and Range Rover Hse and Autobiography are better options any day. I would also take the land rover discovery to this as well. But great detailed review as always, keep up the great work.
