    I can't thank you enough for this video! I'm currently shopping for a GLS 550 and the maintenance and reliability had me worried but you really made things look easy and simple. Question please: Do you feel it's worth the extra money to get the increased HP & Torque of the GLS 550? And do you feel the ride quality of this vehicle is the best of any used luxury SUV? I've liked & subscribed and look forward to learning more from you on taking care of this vehicle. Take care! 😉👍

      Thanks for subscribing! I like the look and power of the 550, but since this was for my wife and she cared more about the color than the horsepower, we went with the 450. That said, I don't know as much about the with the potential problems on the 550. As far as the rest of the car goes, no issues. That's one of the reasons I haven't been putting out GLS450 videos lately...nothing to fix.
      As far as "is it worth the extra money to get the increased HP and torque" question...the answer would be YES if this car was for me. You have to put the 450 in "Sport" mode to get good throttle response and still no V8 sound with the V6. I do enjoy the fuel econpmy of the 450 though, probably thanks to the 9-speed transmission.
      Hope that helps!

      @@pinkcaddygarage267 Thanks for that great response! You have certainly convinced me to look for a well taken cared of 550. I live in a rural area of the Gulf Coast just outside of New Orleans and these GLS's are super rare down here..especially the 550. So wherever I buy it from I'll have to have it shipped to me and hope everything is good with it since I won't be inspecting in person and will have to trust the pictures, Carfax, and VIN info on what it's loaded with from a MB VIN deciphering website. This car is for my spouse..and due to crazy drivers in my area I want them in the toughest SUV with the best safety features available..and most people into cars tell me the 2017-19 GLS fits that bill at a price that's more reasonable than new. I hope you guys stay well and looking forward to more of your videos my friend. Thanks again!

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! Ours has a crack as well. It is apparently a design flaw becasue there are a huge number of cars with this problem. From what I can gather so far, you can replace the whole touchpad as a unit by removing the console insert and other trim. The bad news is that I haven't been able to source the replacement online, either through Mercedes or Amazon, etc. Website says "Discontinued Product", which makes no sense given the car is 4 years old. I'll continue to search for solutions.

    🙏 I bought this car too, about the same mileage and price but a different model I think. Mine doesn’t have running boards. You guys did a great job explaining the features, thank you. My automatic seats scare the heck out of me, lol. My car has always been kept in my garage, about three different times now I hear a hissing sound when I close a door, like air escaping. I’m afraid there’s a leak somewhere. 🤔 I didn’t renew a MB warranty and now I’m scared. Any advice on that subject, MB warranty or just maintenance and repairs as needed 🤷‍♀️

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far, about three years, this car has been completely trouble free. Only has needed normal maintenance. On the hissing sound, you could have the automatic door closure they can make a little bit of noise. I had that on a CL class Mercedes earlier although I don’t remember it making much noise. Otherwise you can live with it until it gets bad enough so that something will stop functioning and then you can diagnose a repair.

No one will fault you for not noticing - for as long as you appear to have been alive, MBTex looks, feels and behaves like leather, and is indestructible. Nice review, thank you. I've owned this car for almost two years and I love it. I have the SAME color and it still looks like new! I bought it at around 70K miles (it was a lease) and I've put almost 25K on it with no issues. Hopefully my input will add value to your review for those considering this car.
    FWIW, there are also cup holders in the doors on the second row seat. When I first got the car, I really wanted a touch screen, which we have had in all our Fords. Now I actually prefer the controls in the mercedes. I find it helps me keep my attention on the road since I can control the screen with my arm on the center console vs reaching over to touch the screen. You can still use voice controls with Apple CarPlay for calls and such, so the lack of touch screen is really not an issue.
    One thing that has made a HUGE difference in comfort for this car is the tires. I switched from the Pirelli that came on the car to the Continental Cross Contact and it was a real game changer. The Continentals feel like floating on a cloud and it makes all the difference on long trips. Totally worth the investment.
    The off road capability performed just great on the beach in Florida. I took it out every day for a week with zero issues whatsoever. I watched.a LOT of folks get stuck in the sand and have to dig out and get towed. This car barely made an impression and stayed right on top of the sand the whole time.
    I recently drove a 2021 Ford Explorer rental car in California for almost a week. While there are features in the Ford I love, I noticed right away the pickup on the highway is way better in my Merc. For repairs, I use a local mechanic who specializes in foreign cars. He's very reasonable, and I sometimes feel like he's under charging me LOL. Definitely avoid the dealership at all costs.
    The remote start with MBrace is just plain STUPID and it's shocking that they haven't done anything to improve it. Another small thing I don't like is that the rear tailgate is pretty high, and I need a stool to climb up and down and sit on it (unlike the Ford, which is easily accessible from the ground with no climbing). For reference, I'm 5'5".
    Lastly, a question. Do you have any advice on removing one of the second row seats? I found where the bolts are but I want to know how to disconnect the power source without breaking it or doing damage for when I reinstall the seat. I actually found this channel when I was searching for a video on how to do that.
    Thanks again for this review. Cheers!

      Mary, thanks for your well-thought-out comments! It's getting to be time for tires for our GLS so I appreciate the recommendation. I have never removed the rear seats, so I don't have any good information for you on that one. Typically, if you loosen the front bolts and remove the rearward bolts, you can lean the seat forward some and disconnect any electrical connections. Maybe someone will chime in.

      @@MrStangdawg Yes, I still have it. I have spent $4k on the rear suspension. New compressor, valve block, new shocks. I bought the vehicle in 2021 with 70k miles. Most recently, the headlight lens cracked, letting moisture into the LED light. The light quit working, then the other headlight quit working. Finally the car became undrivable because the power steering stopped working. I ordered a new headlight ($1600) with replacement module ($300) and a regulator ($400) and the car is at a body shop getting the headlight installed. I have my fingers crossed that once the headlight issue is resolved, it will restore the power steering. It is a fun car to drive, but there are about 1 million things that could go wrong. Typical German over-engineering. Oh, and did I mention that the windshield is cracked now? Not the car's fault, but that will be another $1k.
