Also, he completely neglects the fact that the reason the rear seat is more accessible from the passenger side and not the driver's side is because the passenger side is always going to be facing the curb. Kids aren't going to be standing on the traffic-side of a vehicle waiting to get in - they're going to enter from the curb side door, which (if the driver drives correctly) will always be the passenger door - at least in the United States, which traffic laws require you parallel park along the flow of traffic.

They are used that way. They are made to do some offroad but thats not what people do with it.

You put this thing next to Mercedes luxury minivan that they didn't want to call a minivan (or even market), the r63 amg, and the similarities are striking. "SUVs" nowadays are so much like minivans, it's beyond me how they still maintain their "cool" image all the while minivans in America are all but dead because of their image.

They cannot do any kind of serious offroading. Neither the wheels nor the tyres are capable of that, and neither are the cars which tend to go into limp mode whenever they leave a pre-school parking lot.
@@thekevinager5294 compared to traditional SUVs, these have no offroad capability at all. A base model 4runner in 2wd would smoke this everywhere.

I guess you’ve never heard of one way streets? NYC even has “Alternate Side of the street” parking rules so street sweepers and/or plow trucks can get both sides. Parking on the left hand side is compulsory.

Doug, the off-center handle for the access to the space saver wheel is to allow you to remove the cargo cover one-handed, and then store it in that compartment.

i previously drove around an older g-class, from around from the 90’s and then then i sold it to my friend for $7,500 and bought my self another mercedes which i liked but it was a sedan so i drove it for about seven years then bought this beast and love it! i drove it from minnesota to Florida FOUR TIMES! every time for thanksgivings and take my friends down with me and they love it! we have mine lowered about 1.8 inches or near there and a redone interior because the part where the door closes would leak occasionally when i washed the car and we had to put plastic on the window when we washed it or we had a towel ready but otherwise we had the interior redone from a black color to a “orient blue” color and we are loving it! fits with the cars color, and we have alot of space and love it so much so my parents and friends pack alot and stores just as much as my older honda odyssey and we bought the higest end one i think and its so nice to ride in!

Love the Mercedes GLS 450! Tons of options especially in the fully loaded one I reviewed a few days ago. These 3rd row seat SUVs are selling before they’re offloaded at the dealership! Great 👍🏾 review Doug!

I think it is a strategy. In SUV class that role belongs to G-wagon. They probably don't want to create internal rivalry.
venbolo good thinking, but the G-Wagon is smaller and more off-road oriented while the GLS should be essentially a lifted S Class wagon, rather than a stretched GLE. It’s a good car, but wish that it was more similar to the S Class

A nice modernization from the previous generation. Much more capable, luxurious and safer than a Highlander. I trust it more than anything to transport more wife and children.

Is it just me or is the interior extremely underwhelming for the "S class of Mercedes SUVs"

you won't believe how cheap the interior feels in that, i have 2019 charger scat pack and the stitching on that was far more nicer and well laid out than on the Mercedes they had as a demo vehicle.
Yeah it doesn't look very 'ultra luxury'. I bet Hyundai can make the exact same thing and sell it for 1/3 the price.
That's kind of the goal. If you want "expensive-looking" you get a G-Wagon. If you want"status in the ghetto, you buy a garbage Land Rover from the buy here pay here lot. If you want a very nice, large SUV for your family, with most of the toys, without looking ostentatious on the outside ... GLS. Many will confuse it for a GLC or GLE, and that's kind of the point.

I would just like to say in regards to your complaint of the second row only being power entry for the third row on one side, that if you have the regular 3 seat configuration instead of the 2 seat captians chairs you have power entry from both sides, as mine does. Just so anyone looking into the truck isnt deterred from purchasing it if they don't get the captain's chair option. Thanks and keep up the great content.

It doesn't come from Europe, it's assembled in Alabama. The engine and transmission and engineering come from Europe. And very few of them will end up there. Most of them will be sold on the East and West Coast of US.
13:16 it’s off centre so you can still load the tire with your right hand while opening the cover with your left hand. If it was in the middle, it would be hard to get the tire in because of where you’d be standing

"Best third row button and process that I've ever seen in any three-row SUV." What about the Tesla Model X? It introduced this type of functionality four years ago on both the driver and passenger sides. And, getting in the third row is easier since you can stand up straight, thanks to the Falcon Wing doors. Love your videos. Thanks for doing what you do!

It's such an awful name. M-B-U-X or M-BUX is what I've heard it been called and they both suck. M-B-U-X is too long and M-BUX sounds cheap. If it had a normal name it wouldn't stand out as much.

You do a great job of taking the viewer on a tour of the car. You make it as if I'm there. The backseats are awesome - much better than the Black Badge or the Bentayga. Why doesn't the Maybach have the Maybach head ornament? Great video and continued success.

Doug, you missed the amazing "bounce-feature" of the GLS/GLE!
E-Active Body Control probably wasn’t optioned on the GLE450 he reviewed, uncertain whether it’s even available on the GLS. Even if it was optioned though, you kind of have to be told to use it, because you have to get it into offroad-mode and drive at a very slow speed.
Would’ve been a lot of fun regardless, haha that option is insane

Regarding the hatch in the boot being off-center - my idea is that most of us are right-handed, right? So when you have this a little bit to the lef it is easier to lift this with your left hand and then you have more space for your right hand to reach for something hidden there. I might be wrong but I find this quite useful.

Somehow almost all new Mercedes look great to me. In the past it used to be Audi but the new design language on the Mercs is pretty spot on. Elegant, powerful and subdued at the same time
