I upgraded our 25 year old Genie with a Chamberlain belt drive a few years ago. Being able to control your door from your phone is priceless. Being able to let people in the house when I'm not home, checking on it while on vacation...
I have a Chamberlain belt drive that's starting to show it's age since it's getting loud, we installed it in 2014. We're probally gonna replace it with a LiftMaster side mount

I just had to rebuild my 99 Craftsman openener this weekend. Earlier this year the plastic drive gear shredded and I just replaced that part. Last weekend the sprocket for the chain snapped off, so I bought the kit for $22 which came with a whole new driven assembly and a worm gear!
I also replaced the plastic gear in our old Craftsman opener for $6, and it's worked fine ever since. But why do that when you can just throw it in the trash and buy a new one?! Gotta stimulate the economy!
The garage door from ryobi has been discontinued, lots of bad revies. The concept was cool but they couldnt deliever and theres a lawsuit regarding the modular design. Apparently another company had called dibs on the design and sued ryobi

I installed a belt drive opener 2 years ago and despise it. I have to reset the stop 3 time a year Late fall/winter, Spring, and summer else the door will bounce heavily after sitting overnight. "Bounced the tension wires off once". I have a house from the 60's with a 2 1/2 car garage and the floor is not perfectly level. Depending on the time of year, the gap can change from one side to the other. The old chain drive while it was much louder never stretched.
It’s not meant to be a battery charger for your drill. The battery is there to operate the door during a power outage. He explained that in the video. It just happens to use a Ryobi drill battery but it is not meant to be removed once it is plugged in.
its more economical to have an external battery anyway, the batteries are so cheap that if something does happen to it you could replace it alot easier than a built in battery. plus the cost of doing built in batteries inside of things like that is higher than just throwing on a mass produced unit like their tool batteries. ryobi does a great job keeping their costs as low as possible to the consumers.

They could have included a built in one for probably less than £10/unit for them and double that for the consumer. It is pure greed from this company. They are preying on the fact that you know you won't be able to open your garage door should there be a power outage and you don't have the battery installed. A reasonable cause for a power outage in adverse weather such as a hurricane, storm or heavy snowfall. You know, the kind of times when people want to put their car in the garage. However, people still support these big, greedy companies for some reason. There aren't enough people on this planet like myself, people who can gaze straight through the lies and scams that these companies operate. I was driven out of my home by advertising, I was sick of seeing it, seeing what this world allows to happen. I now live 25 miles from the nearest big city which is a godsend, I haven't seen a single advert in over 16 months and am much happier. Stop supporting these companies, move away from their hunting grounds, don't buy their tat.

So "preying" on people by providing them convenience options is definitely not what this is. If everyone else seems crazy, you might really be the only crazy one. that old pressure reverse system was working fine. i would have installed an electric key switch somewhere outside and hardwired it to the old opener. also, lube that chain und slam that stem(s) :)

That is so cool. I amazed how technology changed from garage door I have. I one i have did not have a battery backup. This is going to be next upgrade for two garage door I have.
How many times have you needed battery backup? I think power has been out with my car in the garage 1 time my whole driving life which is like 17 years. And that one time, I don't think it was a problem because you can open the door manually and get the car out and then close the door till you get power back.

You would never wanna waste your money on ryobi. Ryobi garage door opener will last half the time as a liftmaster. From a garage door repair technician I laugh when I see ryobi garage door opener and feel sorry for the owners of it.
Have two of these 2hp ryobi openers, home depot was clearing them out for like $80 each three years ago 😛 When i had the springs replaced on the door the garage door guy was impressed how quiet it was

The old door can be a lot quieter if people knew that you are supposed to lubricate the chain. You can also adjust chain length and tension in the door. Also, I am pretty sure that you can adjust the pressure reverse sensor. Besides, with Wi-Fi compatibility, someone can hack into the door and open it.

Burglars will break the garage door glass and use a pole to pull the release rope, lift the garage door and steal whatever is in your garage, even at night while you're at home. It's reported daily on NextDoor in San Francisco. It's well known burglary exploit.
Greetings, I cleaned sensors, bought two new different remotes, erased all memory... indoor button works fine all the time. Both new remotes must be pressed several times or it works on the first time and then not. Wires seem to be fine even when I wiggle them sensors do not flicker. have a unique situation, I know everyone’s is unique. But really this one is. The front of my garage sticks out 2 feet from the house. On top of that inside the garage there is a support from the house that goes through the garage that will not allow the door lifting chain rail puller to go all the way to the front above the door. Any ideas. Would like to try and do this myself. I believe would need a bar about 2 feet long from the door to the motor drive chain rail. Any ideas?

1st thing noticed is that the guy that's doing the work, is supposed to be a industry professional. When hes unbolting the nuts and bolts from the mounting bracket. HE's using a cresent wrench, any tradesman or skilled diver knows to use a double ratchet, or ratchet and A boxed end wrench for proper and maximum bolts grip. Why is this guy using a crescent wrench????
Scott's an electrician, he doesn't normally do this type of handyman work. My guess is this was supposed to have been something Tommy was going to do but couldn't fit the schedule.
as an IT pro I'm not installing a wifi door opener. the security risk is to high. though it would be fun to pen test it. that beeing said I would entertain the idea of the door opener being networked as long as it is cabled
He does not need a 2 hp engine for that tiny ass light garage door i have a huge garage door from 1962 it's soild wood weights over 350 pounds it's engine is 1 third hp and its from 1983 when it got replaced plus it opens waaaaaaaaaaaay faster then that 2HP engine.
That actually would have been better suited for a LiftMaster 1/2 HP chain drive in this application. If you can’t have a 1/2 hp opener move your door then your door needs work. 2HP is a waist of time.
Ryobi has reinvented the GDO. I love the huge led light. Hopefully they'll put a worklight on the power cord reel real (see what I did there?) soon. The tire inflater is pretty much a gimmick, but the other stuff like the fan, parking assist, speaker, and camera look very useful.

2hp motor is vastly overpowered for a single garage door. 1/3 - 1/2 hp is plenty, no need to pay for more. 1/2 hp is enough for a 2 car garage door.

as an IT pro I'm not installing a wifi door opener. the security risk is to high. though it would be fun to pen test it. that beeing said I would entertain the idea of the door opener being networked as long as it is cabled

He does not need a 2 hp engine for that tiny ass light garage door i have a huge garage door from 1962 it's soild wood weights over 350 pounds it's engine is 1 third hp and its from 1983 when it got replaced plus it opens waaaaaaaaaaaay faster then that 2HP engine.

That actually would have been better suited for a LiftMaster 1/2 HP chain drive in this application. If you can’t have a 1/2 hp opener move your door then your door needs work. 2HP is a waist of time.

Hopefully they'll put a worklight on the power cord reel real (see what I did there?) soon. The tire inflater is pretty much a gimmick, but the other stuff like the fan, parking assist, speaker, and camera look very useful.

alexander fagard uh, instant hot water heaters are not better, heat pump water heaters are. and concrete is used in nearly every american home and does not repel water. plastic piping has been in use for a long time in the US as well.
