I started out on 1-Q 20 yrs ago. My son loved the smell. He would dit on the front porch with me just to smell it. I moved on long ago to non-aromatics, but this is a good tobacco if u have to smoke around people who dont like the scent cigarettes or cigars. They will be pleased with this.
I literally just smoked my very first pipe last night (I’m 53)! For my very first smoke I used this Lane 1-Q blend in a Peterson Irish Harp 264 (Canadian shape). I decided that I would start with a good pipe rather than a cheap one and use an aromatic. I really enjoyed it!!! It was mild, sweet and absolutely no tongue bite. It stayed lit well. I researched packing a pipe for quite a few days so I believe I did a good job despite being a complete noobie 😂. I have nothing to compare it to so I’ll give my very first ever pipe smoke with 1-Q a four 😊😊😊😊 Edit: Thanks for all your videos! I have learned quite a bit researching everything I needed to know before having my first pipe smoke. Subscribed!
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 1Q is a great blend if you are going to be smoking around others. It is a real crowd pleaser and the ladies love it. I smoked this on a walk in the park and I had at least 10 people compliment me on the tobacco I was smoking. Several ladies told me that their father and or grandfather used to smoke a pipe and the smell reminded them of those old days. Thank you Muttnchop this is a great aromatic blend😉
😁👍 1-Q is a great mild blend. The room note is wonderful. I always carry an unsmoked cob and a small bag of 1-Q when visiting friends, just in case anyone wants to try it.
💨💨💨💨 I have been smoking 1-Q for years. Not all 1-Q is created equal. Some have been too moist. Others are just right. All and all I smoke it once or twice a week. Thanks for the blend club. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Velvet, and, Lane 1Q are tied for first place in my world. I have enjoyed a lot of your English recommendations. Keep it coming. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry.
I've got to get onboard with Blend Club, I have been enjoying watching these a lot, but have no input other than that! Awesome to see a new video from you this morning!
😊😊😊😊😊 I will have to give 1Q, a 5 out of 5 rating. This is the first tobacco that I stayed with for some time. Many different tobaccos and 50 years later, I still keep several ounces around and return to it again and again. For me, this one is definitely a keeper.
🐼🐼🐼🐼 I just love this blend. very light vanilla flavor on top of great tobaccos. This pushes my favorite Autumn Evening but doesnt quite overtake it. Thanks!!! I will smoke this forever.
The first time I tried 1Q I didn’t care for it. Just goes to show to never toss out a tin of you initially don’t like a tobacco. I’ve experienced the same issue with Bourbon. Now 1Q is one of my top favorites and is in regular weekly rotation. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
💥💥💥💥 Lane 1Q is the first blend I bought when I got into pipes. It is also a blend that I always have on hand. It is light and mild… perfect for a relaxing evening in the Adirondack chair on the back deck after the sun goes down.
🍬🍬🍬🍬. The tin note is very sweet. The vanilla is definitely in charge here. The batch I bought came a little moist this time, but other times it’s been just right. I really enjoy this blend, the topping isn’t too overpowering and you get hints of the tobacco coming through. The room note is very pleasing, my wife can sit next to me while I smoke it and she actually likes how it smells. I highly recommend this blend for a new pipe smoker. It definitely taste and smells exactly like what I thought pipe tobacco should be when I was just starting the hobby.
Hi Chris So happy you are back! You provide such wisdom regarding this hobby. I give Lane 1Q for anyone who wants to try pipe smoking. I think it’s the quintessential aroma that people say when they love the smell. For me aromatics don’t have the same satisfaction as non - aromatics. I’m a VaPer fan, so looking forward to your review on Elizabethan Mixture 👍🏽 Thank you Chris for your vids
😉😉😉😉😉 Consistent, flavorful, great mixer with other aromatics. 1-Q is my go to blend when I just want to contemplate current life challenges or just zone out. Room note (from what I’ve been told by others) is marshmallow or even little Debbie nutty bars. Taste? Caramel, vanilla, and even toffee if you smoke it slow enough and the conditions are right. Is it complex? No. Nicotine hit? No, unless you smoke a bunch back to back, and I mean a lot of this stuff. The room note is tolerable and even desired by those remembering relatives from the past. This is my go to when I can’t decide what I want. Does it age? Probably not but I don’t care because it’s perfect already. My only beef is that it will NOT cake a bowl (and I’ve tried). I have 2 pipes dedicated to this stuff and they both will likely never cake much before I pass on. It’s an old school blend that’s great all around aromatic and I have plenty jarred up. Great for newbies and an old friend to visit.
Lane tobaccos were one of the first smokes for me due to my local pipe shop blends (which were renamed/mixed Lane blends). Quintessential pipe aroma really. I still pick up Harvest Moon and Fireside at Tobacco Lane now and then, though I only smoke them in cobs these days. 😊😊😊
🏁🏁🏁🏁 I like it enough to give it 4 stars. I’m still relatively new to the pipe (about 7mth) so I don’t have an extensive amount of experience with too many aromatics at this time. I have about 6 aromatics in the cellar, this is one of them. There are two or three that I generally would choose before 1Q and those are CAO Eileen’s Dream, which is my favorite aromatic, but that is subject to change at any time, and then there would be a tie between Boswells Cupcake, and Autumn Evening. The problem I have is that there are just too many blends to choose from. Lol...
🥉🥉🥉🥉 This blend has a great smell and smokes great. It was fine with moisture and kept lit. At first it seemed too light tasting for me. As I've smoked it more I've started to really dig this blend. The vanilla flavor is just a hint in the back end. I love the simplicity and genuine mellow taste.
❤❤❤❤❤ This is my first blend club review and I’m also a new pipe smoker. I live in Canada and after seeing the reviews on here I decided to order 2 oz of it from the US. Fabulous smoke, it did not dissappoint, I really love this stuff and now I wonder if it is sold in Canada under another name, this would be a staple rotation for me, for sure. As a new pipe smoker, this did not bite and provided a bunch of billowing smoke which I really enjoy. Very mellow, no tongue bite and very very pleasant taste. If any knows if I can get this in Canada, please reply and let me know! Thank you Chris for this discovery!
💨💨💨 One of the first aromatics I tried when I started and I agree it’s a great dessert replacement lol, gave it three smokes because it’s a little too sweet for me but still not a bad blend for beginners! Thanks for sharing MC
😀😀😀😀😀I've had this one before, it's a lot like French Creek at my local shop. Very smooth, sweet, no bite.😀😀😀😀😀 Mrs Whitetail likes it also, very mild, slightly sweet.
🍬🍬🍬🍬 really good I see why it’s a favorite I don’t smoke it every day but when I do I make myself a nice cup of tea a very nice smoke need to order more of it
⚓️⚓️⚓️1/2. I tried this when I 1st started. I have to say it is a great blend! 1-Q is the only aromatics I’ve tried that I really like. I prefer English blends. That being said it’s a must try for someone who is trying to figure out what they like.
Love it, absolute MUST have for a pipesmoker, whether newbie or seasoned. I know this might sound weird to some people, but the room note is what caught my attention and I smoke this quite often (when Im able and feeling good to have a bowl). I sometimes blend this one with another aromatic, maybe creme brulee or Blood Red Moon. Good STUFF. Keep it goin Muttnchop!
🐢🐢🐢🐢 I've put off smoking this for a long time. Finally tried it for Blend Club. Really enjoyed this. It is a good bulk blend to be used between smoking other things.
Just wanting to say after watching your videos on the breath method and packing a pipe, I put your advice to the test this evening. The result was my most enjoyable experience yet! Figured out I was packing too tight and puffing like a freight train haha. Thank you so much for all the advice!
This is actually what I just picked up for my first pipe tobacco. I absolutely enjoy this, and it's not harsh around the shop after smoking. I got a couple of ounces, and I'm wishing I had ordered more.
🥮🥮🥮 I do like my aromatics, and like yourself I recommend it to new pipe smokers as it is sweet & doesn’t bite. It has a grassy vanilla & caramel taste, which is there throughout the bowl but fades towards the end, so I give it 3/5.
It’s a good smoke and a good tobacco to have in the rotation from time to time. It’s a good warm weather smoke or morning smoke for me. Nic seems to be pretty light too so no concerns there.
💛💛💛💛💛 It's everything that it should be. If you like gentle tobacco with vanilla aromatics, you'll probably really enjoy it. I would never smoke it myself; there's virtually no nicotine, and that's something I look for. I also don't generally prefer vanilla flavors, and enjoy a stronger tobacco taste. I'd give it 3 stars according to my personal tastes, not offensive in any way, but it just doesn't do anything for me.
😊😊😊😊....I ran across this tobacco totally by accident. I bought 3 ounces and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the first bowl full. I didn't give it a 5 rating as I am saving that for my "perfect blend ", if I ever find it.
I just started smoking a pipe. My local tobacconist suggested this blend to me. He said it is their #1 seller in their shop. I like it quite a bit, but don't have much of a frame of reference yet.
❤ New smoker and recommended by brick and mortar call “Spartan” and told it’s Lane Q-1. When I try a new tobacco but don’t like it I go back and I the Q-1. 5/5 for me
As far as I know, up here in Canada...Lane was bought by Sail. Captain Black Royal (a favorite of mine after Red Cake), is now supplied by Sail tobacco and called 'Sail Royal". Hope that helps. Pleasant piping.
Tried 1Q earlier for the first time Tasted like vanilla, caramel, and very slightly plum The profile was lighter than I'm used to, personally would have liked it if it was a tad more bold in the topping. (I like my toppings) Definitely pleasing to the nose, and light enough to not scare people away 😂 Overall, I liked RLP more than 1Q but it's a good light smoke, perfect for beginners and company. 😊😊😑 2 1/2 out of 5
I absolutely adore this tobacco and Captain Black (the American one) is my favourite tobacco desptite having tasted more than 100 different tobaccos as of 25+ years of being a pipe smoker. The issue: I CAN"T find it in Greece, not anymore, and I can't manage to get it shipped here. EU version of Captain Black is like grass mixed with paper... IF anyone knows how to get this (or any American Captain Black) tobacco to Greece, please, pray tell.
👹👹👹👹 I like this blend a lot, however I do enjoy the non aromatics mostly as you said this is great for a dessert, treat or just a change up. My wife also enjoys the aroma too which is kinda nice as well so sometimes she will join me on my walks and is not too offended😊 Thanks for another great video, Happy Pipes
Happy independence day 🇺🇸 Thanks for the review 😊 just hope we can get the tobaccos that's available in the States in S.A 😢 Sounds 😋 delicious , will skip dessert for a pipe anytime 😅 no emoji from me 😢 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hi all, Firstly thanks for the videos Muttnchop Piper, very useful. I recently inherited a selection of estate pipes that belonged to my grandfather. My father didn't use them before he passed away and so I was wondering if they would be useable at all? or are they only keepsakes at this point? From what I have learnt from your videos there is a good chance they will be ghosted, and from the looks of the condition of the pipes, they do seem to be well used and have not been cleaned in a long time. I am hoping to use them and smoke a pipe from time to time and see how I get on with it over rolling tobacco (I will buy a few new ones to compare). Thanks again.
@@MuttnchopPiper Thanks for the quick reply, I was wondering would it be that difficult to try to restore them myself? I do have some skill with a hacksaw 😏
🐸🐸🐸 I dont really like the stuff. This is to pipe tobacco what ultra lights are to cigarettes. It tastes ok, but it's so very mild that I never feel like it's burning well. It's like smoking air almost, yet somehow manages to give me a headache.
🐶🐶 A fair aromatic, but too moist and needs to dry. I find the taste bland. I tried this when I took the pipe back up a few years ago, and it is just not for me. I am spoiled by MacBaren's Seven Seas Regular, Davidoff Blends, and Aston Winding Road, with better balance and flavor.
Question to anyone. I have a 6 year old unopened tin of 1Q which has been stored in a cool dark cupboard. Do you think it will still be ok to smoke?? Thanks in advance.
Yep, if it’s still sealed it will be okay. Will it age to perfection like a straight Virginia? Probably not due to the 1-q toppings. Congratulations on having a tin, I’ve never been able to buy 1-q except in bulk so no idea if a tin will be different. Enjoy whenever you decide to open it up!
🔥 Didn't participate in this one. This is one tobacco I have yet to conquer with the burn/bite no matter what I do with it. It's the favorite of several. And I admit it smells good in all aspects. But definitely one I can't get into.
☔☔☔ I enjoyed this particularly when I started out. Anyone who likes Captain Black will find 1Q to be a more refined and elegant blend that hits all the same notes. In my experience 1Q is just a little "gloppy", too much moisture leading to pipe gurgle. When I went back to it recently I didn't like it as much as I used to, perhaps because I'm spoiled on english and balkan blends... but still a staple blend that I can't knock.
🌲 this one's not for me. I'm tried going back to it a few times over the last few years and I just don't enjoy it. The only reason I can give for this though is that it tastes low quality or "cheap" to me. I don't know if I've just become a tobacco snob or what, 😂, but I just can't enjoy this blend anymore.
I just love this guy, I could just sit and listen to him talk all day, what a top bloke, big luv from 🇬🇧
I started out on 1-Q 20 yrs ago. My son loved the smell. He would dit on the front porch with me just to smell it.

Agree they're some of the most informative out there.
I’m with you. I feel like the information he’s giving us is worth years of experience. That and I like watching the chops grey over the years

I like it when other people smoke it , but when I smoke it , well I just don’t get in taste in what I’m smelling when others smoke it

Spot on review! Lane makes a huge number of blends and they are all reasonably priced. I also love BCA and RLP-6 and Burley without a Bite.
😀😀😀😀 1Q is always in my cellar. Has been for decades. Just a good smoke when I want a good aromatic that I can just enjoy.
🐼🐼🐼🐼 I just love this blend. very light vanilla flavor on top of great tobaccos. This pushes my favorite Autumn Evening but doesnt quite overtake it. Thanks!!! I will smoke this forever.

Vanilla and is always a summer blend for me. ❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤= Yummy! Zero tongue bite with minimum relight. Heaps of wonderful smoke, real crowd pleaser. This is my go to blend👍🏻

One of the first true aromatics I ever purchased when first started and loved it. Still keep some around in my rotation. Good stuff!
🍬🍬🍬🍬 really good I see why it’s a favorite I don’t smoke it every day but when I do I make myself a nice cup of tea a very nice smoke need to order more of it
Great stuff! My first tobacco, and the first one I bought a pound of … 4/5 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i love the new video style! You're looking great! I'll continue to learn as long as you teach.
🏁🏁🏁🏁 Mellow and smooth. One of the go-to aromatics in my collection. Pairs nicely with a cup of coffee.

😏😏😏😏 i love this stuff. Now mix 50/50 lane BCA and 1Q. That is amazing.
I also add some MV-1000, along with 1-Q, and a small amount of Paul’s Pipe Shop Arrowhead to my BCA, and it is one of my favorite homemade blends.
🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨 Good tasting and inexpensive. Thank you Muttnchop Piper
Love it , keep the blend club going brother 👍
Lane limited makes Capt Black. How similar is lane 1q to Capt black Original or is it the same tobacco?
Timely video - my first purchase of this is coming in the mail. Heard too many people raving about it.
Just wanting to say after watching your videos on the breath method and packing a pipe, I put your advice to the test this evening. The result was my most enjoyable experience yet! Figured out I was packing too tight and puffing like a freight train haha. Thank you so much for all the advice!
I'm glad I could help
Good to see you healthy again !!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
🎉🎉🎉🎉 it’s been in my rotation the last week and I find it just as you say. It’s been in my morning rotation mostly. Soft, smooth, tasty and sweet.
🍦🍦🍦
It’s creamy! Smooth and sweet smoking with vanilla taste notes from the cavendish blended into it. Mellow and enjoyably pleasant smelling.
This is actually what I just picked up for my first pipe tobacco. I absolutely enjoy this, and it's not harsh around the shop after smoking. I got a couple of ounces, and I'm wishing I had ordered more.
Im from Brazil 🇧🇷 Thank you for teaching me how to pipe smoke!!
another great video MCP.
🥮🥮🥮 I do like my aromatics, and like yourself I recommend it to new pipe smokers as it is sweet & doesn’t bite. It has a grassy vanilla & caramel taste, which is there throughout the bowl but fades towards the end, so I give it 3/5.

Odd question, and probably too late to get an answer 😂, but wondering how many ounces fit in that jar. Thanks!
🦌🦌🦌 has a very pleasant taste , while it does have its place in my rotation, it's way too mild for me to smoke on a regular basis
💛💛💛💛💛 It's everything that it should be. If you like gentle tobacco with vanilla aromatics, you'll probably really enjoy it. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 5 stars for me, it's my go to daily smoke to interchange between English blends.
I just started smoking a pipe. My local tobacconist suggested this blend to me. He said it is their #1 seller in their shop. I like it quite a bit, but don't have much of a frame of reference yet.
Certainly a great place to start in aromatics. Next perhaps a straight Virginia like Peterson Flake or Sutliff 507-C.
Thanks for the video Muttnchop!
I love 1-Q. I also enjoy Lane MV-1000, BCA, and TK-6. I give all of them a 4-5.
Tried and true. This tobacco never lets me down. And it's dirt cheap to. Have a blessed holiday MCP.
I always learn new things thanks to you
❤ New smoker and recommended by brick and mortar call “Spartan” and told it’s Lane Q-1. When I try a new tobacco but don’t like it I go back and I the Q-1. 5/5 for me
Is Lane 1-Q the same as Capt Black Royal? Isn’t Captain Black made by Lane?
As far as I know, up here in Canada...Lane was bought by Sail. Captain Black Royal (a favorite of mine after Red Cake), is now supplied by Sail tobacco and called 'Sail Royal". Hope that helps. Pleasant piping.
Tried 1Q earlier for the first time
Tasted like vanilla, caramel, and very slightly plum
The profile was lighter than I'm used to, personally would have liked it if it was a tad more bold in the topping. (I like my toppings)
Definitely pleasing to the nose, and light enough to not scare people away 😂
Overall, I liked RLP more than 1Q but it's a good light smoke, perfect for beginners and company.
😊😊😑 2 1/2 out of 5
I absolutely adore this tobacco and Captain Black (the American one) is my favourite tobacco desptite having tasted more than 100 different tobaccos as of 25+ years of being a pipe smoker.

😊😊😊😊 it’s always a pleasure and it commands its own pipe. Easy smoking.
1-Q is good by itself and a great base for custom blends. Try 50/50 1-Q & BCA
Mutton Chop Legend
☺☺☺ It's a great blend this is my rating thank you
🧠🧠🧠 good after a meal and I think the caramel drives the bus I don’t like aromatics too much that’s why I gave it 3 out of 5
This is the best aromatic I've ever tasted
Happy independence day 🇺🇸 Thanks for the review 😊 just hope we can get the tobaccos that's available in the States in S.A 😢 Sounds 😋 delicious , will skip dessert for a pipe anytime 😅 no emoji from me 😢 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
BCA is my favorite of the mason jar at smoke shop tobaccos by far. 1Q is good for mixing but that’s it imo
My suggestion is that you contact smokingpipes.com they provide a service that cleans and refurbished estate pipes, they may be able to help.
@@MuttnchopPiper Thanks for the quick reply, I was wondering would it be that difficult to try to restore them myself? I do have some skill with a hacksaw 😏
Ive heard this blend is a match of captain black original.
Do you vacuum seal your mason jars?, if not, why?.
Great review as always!👍🇺🇸
Freshness does not escape glass like it does plastic.
🧔♂🧔♂🧔♂🧔♂ Very solid, pretty mild, but the room note is really hard to beat.
I mix this 50/50 with Black Cavendish. I like it.
🥕🥕 It's not a horrible smoke 1-Q. The flavouring tastes too artificial imo.
🐸🐸🐸 I dont really like the stuff. This is to pipe tobacco what ultra lights are to cigarettes. It tastes ok, but it's so very mild that I never feel like it's burning well. It's like smoking air almost, yet somehow manages to give me a headache.
I’m newish so I’m struggling to taste anything even though my pipe stays cool and I do my best to retro hale grrrr

Love the videos but you need some better audio. Volume up full blast shouldn't sound like your whispering
I agree. There's just too many other tobaccos that blow 1-Q out of the water.
😀😀😀😀 Very tasty!
😀😃😄😁👍
☔☔☔ I enjoyed this particularly when I started out. Anyone who likes Captain Black will find 1Q to be a more refined and elegant blend that hits all the same notes. In my experience 1Q is just a little "gloppy", too much moisture leading to pipe gurgle. When I went back to it recently I didn't like it as much as I used to, perhaps because I'm spoiled on english and balkan blends... but still a staple blend that I can't knock.
One dimensional, hot air
🙁🙁🙁 I'm still new to this, but right now I give 1Q a 3. It's not bad, and I may buy another 2 ounces when this is gone, but it isn't great.
