However it was accomplished to convince Diana to marry Charles -- what a mistake of epic proportion. She married him at eighteen -- hardly old enough to know her own mind or heart. And what a cost it was to her.
Despite the fact of having William and Harry -- which I'm sure gave her purpose and great comfort -- the shambles of her marriage wreaked havoc on her. And to it all coming to the tragic end it did, just as she was finding her confidence and self determination. I always wonder what her life might have been if she'd refused Charles and lived the simple life as Lady Diana in her own right, able to define her future and live her life in relative obscurity. I'm positive it would have made her happy, and she'd be alive today to prove it.

Diana should *not* have been forced
to take that tour (it happened in April
2023) with a 10-month old baby or to
      leave him behind. The mother-child
bond is VERY important at such a
      young age.
Had Diana wanted to go on a tour
with Charles; it should have been
      arranged that she and William
arrive a few days earlier and
      privately enter the country (so
that Diana and the baby could
      get over their jet-lag)
      AND
Then, *for Diana to have a limited*
*tour with Charles* with a lot of
      time to rest between appearances.
ALSO to *not* be with him at the
places that would be difficult to
go to such as as Ayers Rock/Uluru
*It is in the middle of nowhere!*
BTW: What were Charles and his
      courtiers thinking? ( *She should

In love or not and even if it was just for appearances sake, he should have attended to his wife, before the whole situation escalated. What a dumbass. Calling her 'weak', when the whole thing could have been avoided by him behaving like a decent human being and well brought up gentleman. Half the problem was her feeling completely deserted by him and not just her being physically overwhelmed. And that part he could have easily prevented, if it was so damn important to him, to get up there.

Good for Diana for sticking to her guns in her quest to maintain her civil rights. If Camilla was really there for Charles, she would have married him. She declined, but she and Charles continued to live in a fantasy world that she was his panacea, which killed poor, Diana. The Queen should have stepped in, just as she did to stop poor Margaret’s hoped for marriage that was ridiculously dashed by the monarchy, and said directly to Charles after he married Diana, “You are completely cut-off from Camilla Parker-Bowles and if you defy this order, you will lose you succession to the throne.” Period: full stop. Why would a tour of Australia be arranged, for a Royal couple with a young baby?? ( and the added pressure to put on a show, whilst being kept apart from your young child?)
And why would the mother be expected to accept separation from her baby Son, being kept miles apart, from her, while both in a foreign land???
It shows the total thoughtlessness, cruelty and unfair expectations put on people who are merely human, yet expected to live up to cruel expectation.
Perhaps Charles should have married an unfeeling, unhuman mature woman ( instead of a 19 year old ( a child herself) ) to fulfil the role he wanted. While failing to value or care her humanity and respect her right to her priority of being a good mother to her child??

what a p**ck he was to Diana, I don’t care if he’s good or not now, he treated her so badly its absurd, she was only 19 when she got married of course she had her troubles, she had a terrible atmosphere at home, divorced parents who fought and was the invisible child with what I understand was a borderline mother and a terribly strict father, what else they expect of her? she never stood a chance…I’m glad to see Prince William is his Mother’s son and he treats his wife like a princess and his children like the three precious children they are ❤❤❤ Thoughts and prayers with the Wales for all their good health, especially Princess Catherine, who’s raising the three so well alongside Prince William! 🫅🏻👸🏻❤🎉

3:14 This scene of the Prince and Princess of Wales with young William actually happened at Government House, Auckland New Zealand. Photos of this scene have been treasured by New Zealanders for years because the young Prince was playing with a Buzzy Bee. A toy that buzzes around on the ground which was invented and cherished by New Zealand children for generations. You actually don't see them around as much anymore.
I was born in the early 90's and remember having one in my toy chest when I was about five. My little brother got it a couple of years later, then I saw my youngest brother playing with one (He's 21 years younger than me) when I went to visit Dad and my step mother, I asked my Dad where he got it from and was actually surprised it was the very same one that we had. I'm not sure where it is now though

Diana may only have been 19 when she married, but she came from those circles and should have known what was going to be expected of, not only a member of the RF, but the wife of a future king. Being a member of the RF is a job with certain responsibilities. If you get paid big bucks e.g. a rent free home, cars, clothes, jewels, meals out, holidays and so on, then you have to do the job. If she wanted to just be a mum she should have married Joe Ordinary down the road and be a stay at home mum with all the financial worries that would have brought. Wanting the penny and the bun comes to mind.

Diana was a good person but no one said she was overly mature or even particularly intelligent. She wasn't a cunning politician nor was she cut out for what royal family wanted of her. Just because someone is sheltered and a little spoiled doesn't mean they deserve to be abused. If royal family really wanted stability, they'd be offering help and allowances, not punishing her. They should have picked up the slack instead of icing her out. I agree she had wrong expectations, but royal family was even worse because they KNEW and were aware of what was needed and prioritized punishing her to getting everything to work.
As for wanting penny and the bun... that is unrealistic, but not that much of a moral failing. She wanted financial security and to be loved. It *shouldn't* be one or the other.

Diana should *not* have been forced to take that tour (it happened in March/April 1983) with a 10-month old
baby or to leave him behind. The mother-child bond is
VERY important at such a young age.
Had Diana wanted to go on a tour with Charles; it should
have been arranged that she and William arrive a few
days earlier and privately enter the country (so that Diana
and the baby could get over their jet-lag)
    AND
Then, *for Diana to have a limited tour with Charles*
with a lot of time to rest between appearances.
    ALSO
To *not* be with him at the places that would be difficult
to go to such as as Ayers Rock/Uluru *It is in the middle
    nowhere!*
    BTW:
What were Charles and his courtiers thinking?

All this could have been avoided if our King was allowed to marry Camilla. People are always saying ‘look what they did to Diana’. However, aristocratic girls were so badly educated that their only option was marriage. As Earl Spencer has pointed out, their childhood was far from a bed of roses. Diana caught the brunt of her mother walking out and her father walking in with a new woman Even today, the aristocracy goes through the male line so Earl Spencer is the youngest of four with three sisters but when his father died, he inherited the house and land and the girls were given some money and went off to find husbands. This was when British girls were going to university in their droves but that route was not open to Diana. Modelling Yes because she would have met rich men. It was two grammas who wanted the match. Do remember it is drama and the writers can increase/decrease events and people for dramatic licence. At 19, Diana was too young to marry but her sister went out with Prince Charles for a year but didn’t want Royal restrictions. So why didn’t she discourage Diana, who was very immature for her age, not to marry?

In a way, I agree. But Diana heralded a transition into the trends of the contemporary monarchy. Nowadays, the royals are treated like celebrities and influencers, so they need to walk a thin line between showing enough of their personal lives and feelings to be relatable and not showing too much and offending. It's a far cry from the monarchy of the 50s where the royals were placed on a pedestal where they could smile from above but with relative distance.

If those who planned the tour had done a better job and had take into consideration she was a mother who actually wants to be a mother, not just have nanny she wouldn't have been put in this situation, she wouldn't have to beg and get angry to see her son. It's not like a working mother who would see her son after a day of work: after a day of work she had other engagement until midnight so she wouldn't see her son more than a few minutes for weeks, that's not ok for her and not ok for the child.
