    I picked it up at Home Depot for $20. I've had it for over a year and I love the fact that I don't care if I loose or break it. The pouch is terrible. Velcro wears out quickly.

    My take on the most requested multitool for Multitool Monday, the Gerber Suspension.

    I've owned the Gerber Suspension for five years and it has been one incredible camp tool. The two blades are ample but of course not primary; Gerber Strongarm being the primary blade (my favorite in my knife collection). The pliers are great working with wire snares, bending fish hooks, tightening 550 and other rope knots and multiple other camp chores. The saw is useful in making notches for tent pegs along with the two blades and the spine is the best ferro rod striker drawing sparks even with the crappiest rods. The scissors easily open Mountain House and other packages. The bottle opener is a waste however the can opener is a decent backup to my P38 or P51. I don't use either screwdriver for camp but they do come in handy in my SUV or home. The sheath was a tragedy (ripped on its first camp outing) and I replaced it with a Yakeda tactical sheath, one in coyote camo and one in black camo depending on which color Gerber Strongarm I take. Both sheaths are mounted on the respective Strongarm kydex sheaths. I give this tool a five star rating and in five years and countless outdoor trips has never let me down. On my car key chain I have a Gerber Dime, also an excellent EDC tool.

    I specifically bought these as a truck multi-tool (in my stay in truck "get home bag") for a number of reasons. 1. They probably will never get used for any real emergency purpose. 2. They were dirt cheap when I bought it on sale (18ish bucks). And 3. I wanted a multi-tool that I wouldn't care if it got stolen out of my truck. I've truly only used them 1 time ever... that was to change my license plate when I moved to a different state. But they are there if/when I ever need them again.

  • @williamyoung369

    Yeah, it's pretty much a Ganzo. But multitools have developed alot over the years, so even an inexpensive one is a usable tool in a pinch.

    Great review, as usual. Ty. A few weeks ago, in September 2018, I purchased two Suspensions for the price of one ($13.00 each) at the local Walmart. They were making way for the NXT. I prefer Leatherman, but couldn't pass-up the deal. Probably will gift these two MTs. Ditto about Ganzo origins of the Suspension.

      That's a great deal! I noticed Amazon still has a few of the Gerber Legend, an older multitool from back when Gerber was better, assembled at least in the USA.

    You're gonna love it when that damn spring starts sliding to the side when you try to use the scissors after a while! If you're hands are the size of Shaquille O'Neal you'll love the spring loaded pliers! I should know brother I own 2!

    This is where the conversation should start and end for affordable jack of all trades multitools. Has never let me down, just don't bring it near salt water unless you think Gerbers were missing rust as another tool.
    Edit: also, the saw is short, but it's insanely good. I've cut an entire sheet of luaun (don't ask) with this thing and comes in handy in a pinch. The only thing that's keeping me from buying a Center Drive is the lack of saw.

  • @BlazinBlades

    I'm back. Still have mine & found one. The found one needs some care, like, sharpen, oil, clean & i gotta loosen the pivots cause it's tight. I'll add a lanyard. Found it in a Clip&carry kydex sheath, needs cleaning to. I usually use Clorox wipes on em. I do miss a threading awl/reamer & a file on these, but these are good in a pinch.

    I don't know what I think of these. I know that the handle shape bothers me. I know it's more ergonomic looking and probably feeling, but I prefer a straight handled profile for pocket carry. The bulbous ends look as though they take up unnecessary space with no added benefit other than ergonomics for a tool that is, essentially a stand-in for an actual pair of pliers. I've said it before, but if they could get the Juice scissors into a Leatherman Wave, I think it would be the ultimate tool. I would trade the straight blade on the Wave to be the scissors and use the scissors space within the handle to put an actual Phillips driver instead of the squashed Phillips that's in it. I know we aren't talking about the Wave here, it just came to mind.

  • @pitiedvod
    @pitiedvod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The good thing about them is the spring loaded of the pliers. That is a great plus.
    The bottle cap opener works fine. I used that the most on the tool, where it dumped in the car console.
    Other than that though it is kind of junk. Gerber went really cheap with material and build quality.
    The blades will not stay sharp due to the weak steel. The grips to pull out the blade is also notorious for breaking off and I had to glue them back on.
    The pliers are fairly weak so it best to avoid any hard use with it, as you will snap them. It better to get a decent brand where you can put it to better use.
    The scissors aren't too bad, but you can over overload the spring and they jam open. Also be sure to sharpen them often.
    The saw is one of the most useless on a multitool.
    Finally make sure to double stitch the strapping on the sheath, as that tears and breaks way too easily.

  • @muxmurki1497
    @muxmurki1497 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    YES. Multitools can't be but a backup. Even the very best pliers (I'd say Victorinox and Leatherman) are just two or three leagues behind a real pair of pliers. I collect tools and have got all the American and German brands. There is nothing better than Knipex. My oldest model is way older than 60 years, has seen quite some use, and works like new. (It's a pair of "Flachzange', a flat grip pliers type, trying to translate it to English.) I broke quite a lot of MT pliers, though. All these "hard wire cutter inserts", made of whatever 154 CM or so... None of my Knipex pliers has those nor needs them. They're properly hardened to 64 HRC and cut through everything they're supposed to. Of course a small electronics side cutter can't cut 4 mm piano wire.
    But I'd really love to see a cooperation between a multitool producer and a pliers expert, since the former could vastly profit from the knowledge of the latter… as far as steel treatment is concerned, and more.

    Awesome review bro. What would you recommend between the Gerber Suspension, Ganzo 301 and Leatherman Wingman/Sidekick?

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If the main tool you need is the pliers, I would say the Sidekick, but if you want a more well-rounded toolset then get the Suspension, unless you live outside the US, most people get the Ganzo if the Suspension is too expensive in their country.

    • @Lezure2010
      @Lezure2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Copy bro, here in the philiippines, the cheapest I found for all three are 2100 pesos for the Ganzo 301
      2300 for the Suspension
      2700 for the Wingman/ 2900 for the Sidekick
      My real main gripe was choosing which one is better between the Ganzo and Suspension. and small consideration for the leathermans if they're just that much better.
      I'll go with the Suspension for the next purchase. Thanks.
      Maybe you could also review the Stanley multi tool. This is what I currently use and it's ok overall for me. and it's really cheap, 960 pesos budled with a utility knife.

      @krazykat64 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been curious about the Stanley. It's got a pretty high number of reviews on Amazon and is super cheap, so I've wondered about it. I have the Wingman and it's just OK. The only thing it has going for it is that it is light and has a pocket clip. Otherwise it doesn't feel very well constructed to me and doesn't feel as solid in hand as I think a Leatherman product should.

Please update your video, I cannot get the one blade to close and no instructions came with. Opening was no problem. I am glad it doesn't close easily but I should not need a tool to close my tool.

    Wow about the price - I know it's nearly 4 years later on but $20 for a Suspension??? Any US branded multitools here in the UK cost at least double what you can get them for in the US. Here the best price I can find the Suspension for is £39 which is just shy of $50. Multitools are rarely if ever seen in actual physical stores here, you have to buy them online from specialist suppliers of tools or outdoor equipment.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed! All the people I know overseas buy Ganzo Multitools instead, because the Gerber prices are very inflated there.

    13:33 since you show that side-to-side movement of that, May I ask you off-topic? Does your Leatherman REBAR has that side-to-side movement when fully closed? Because no one mentioned that but the "REBARS" I see they all have that movement a bit. Not super firm like a wave for example.

    The saw saved me from a 5000 dollar fine when I was hauling a water tank that had a cracked fitting. I was able to cut it off cleanly and plug it completely vs tearing the whole assembly out and flooding a freeway in town lol

      Excellent. Life is definitely full of those oh crap moments LOL where you have to fix something unexpected. Had to fix the steady shot thing in my camcorder out in the field today. Figured out that if I open it pointing up, it realigns the mechanism. A new one would have also cost me about $500! Ouch.

  • @simonh6371
    @simonh6371 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good point about a multitool being just a quick fix portable alternative to regular dedicated tools, and that a pair of cast pliers will always be stronger than those on a multitool. I'm often surprised by devotees of expensive Leatherman tools claiming that they are tradesman such as mechanics who use only these every day for work. Strangely Swisstool owners never claim this. I just EDC a smallish multitool for quick on the road repairs to my old mountain bike lol. If I'm doing maintenance on it at home I use my box of tools. Also I'm surprised by people who say they use multitools to fix their cars on the road, in a car space & weight isn't such an issue, and I thought most people have a bag or box of tools including spanners (wrenches) and a socket set in the boot (trunk) of their car.

    I've had this for about 5 years and I can say it is rock solid. The serrations can be sharpened to functional and the back and forth handle play has not caused any problems. The crushed phillips works surprisingly well and the pliers remain tight. I have not found a way to make the saw longer so let's face it... shorty saws just suck so I call it a notcher and feel much better ;-) Well worth the price.

    I finally ordered one. Was always a little skeptic about it. It is like, you want to love it just for the shape and on the other hand you know it’s made in China and hold back, more so they make it for the Bear Grylls collection, which we know most of the stuff is crap. Well we’ll see. Got to give it a shot. Fingers crossed.

    I think folks are being a bit too quick to condemn bypass wire cutters on budget MT's. They're not even trying them. Not long ago another popular reviewer was condemning the Letterman Rev for its bypass cutters while not considering that Leatherman's and Gerber's most respected models have that type of cutters. I don't get the reasoning.

    I have one of these, I bought it cos I liked that it doesn't have a spring between the handles for the plyers. However it does have tiny little springs for the tools to be held in place, after 4 months of keeping it in my pocket at work, theyv become stiff an rusty. I live in oz an paid 60 bucks for it, I'm sure there are better tools for the price without the fiddly little springs to seize up. Also getting a lot of spotty surface rust over the plyers an other tools it has

    A fit and finish letdown, the unlock bars are a firey hot-spot on the fingertips. The overly thick spacers, stubby odd shaped tools, and a lanyard loop as thick as a tool, where a more useful tool could have been. I had one, it made me appreciate the fit, finish, and attention to detail of the go to brand Leatherman the original plier based MT.

    I've had mine for about a year. Its part of my EDC. Velcro wears out quickly, and the tool itself gets a little loose. Have to tighten it quite often. All that said, I use a lot and the problems I have are typical. The knife is extremely sharp and still is, I haven't sharpened it and still don't need to. All that said, I love this tool. Definitely got my money's worth. Target $39.99 at the time.

    There's a version of this multitool that's also a rebranded Ganzo (Magnalex or something like that) with the identical toolset as the Suspension plus a bit set for the same money. I'd personally be inclined to go for that one since it's essentially the same manufacturer but with added functionality.

    I abuse the shit out of mine and its still performing well. Threw it on the floor, hit a brick wall, and threw up a spark, still completely intact. Hit the spine of the blade with a sledgehammer to cut thew dense plastic, minor blemishes and a partly broken lock. Everything still locks up if not better. For $20-25.00 its a great multi tool that can take a fair amount of abuse.

    Good video my friend. The only problem I see with the Gerber suspension is the saw. It's too damn thick and dull it will bind up and clog up on ya easy. The saw should have been thinner so it could go into wood easier and won't clog up on ya as much. But besides that it's really not that bad. It's very affordable and easy to use. Good video my friend. Keep up the good work 😀😀!!

      @@WeAllJuggleKnives - Sorry my friend but I was out of commission for a bit I had to get a new phone. Lol. Love the video dude. Have you checked out the new Leatherman Bond? It's a mix between the Leatherman Rebar and PST. Leatherman is also coming out with a Leatherman Curl. It's a Wave without replaceable wire cutters and the inside tools don't lock. Throwback to the first generation Wave I guess. I think they are doing this for the European customers. You know how Europe is with their weird knife laws. Lol. I also purchased the Gerber suspension nxt it's not that good as I thought it would be but for light duty task it should be ok. I am interested in the Gerber Truss I watched your video on it and I am pretty impressed with it can't wait to get one. Anyway brother good video and keep up the good work 😀!!

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I have been watching videos on the Bond. I have not gotten one yet, but I want to get one, just for the completeness of the collection, even though I still have my old PST.

      @@WeAllJuggleKnives - Hey my friend. I seen some reviews on the Leatherman Bond and from what I have seen it has a few issues the knife issue is a little unsafe. The knife cutout is to big and the knife should be tighter ya can definitely cut yourself like that. It has two holes for the pocket clip but you have to buy that separate. I love Leatherman I have over 70 Leatherman multi tools and other companies but why not just include the pocket clip. Just seems like they are just trying to make a extra dollar 🤔🤔!!

      I am a fan of what I call the "Golden Age" of Leatherman - Rebar, Wave, Charge, ST300, Surge, Sidekick, Juices, and Skeletool. But it seems we have entered a new age, The Age of Sorrows and Dust! LOL. I noticed the Squirt was like $40 on Amazon now. It used to be $18 when I got my last one.
