  • Welcome to Mexico City! We are spending a week exploring this amazing city! We went rode the subway, visited Polanco, Roma Norte and Coyoacán. We found delicious food, friendly people and beautiful architecture. The Mexico city we set out to explore does not hit all the hot travel spots. We try to give you a feel of the streets, the people and the vibe that we experienced in this amazing city.
    We will also have videos on each neighborhood we visited in Mexico city. Stay tuned for that!
    Hey! We are Geo and Allie. We sold our house, bought a Sprinter Van and hit the Road. Geo runs a business from the road and Allie focuses on putting her energy into the kids education and our next destination. We are originally from Baltimore MD, but our travels will take us all around the country.

    I go to Mexico City several times a year: I can't express how much I love this city! I know you guys, like so many bloggers, are impressed with the tacos, but . . . the chilaquiles are another star in CDMD's gastronomical firmament. Besides the obvious colonias: Centro Historico, La Condesa/Hipodromo, Roma, Polanco, San Angel, Coyoacan, Xochimilco and Santa Fe, be sure to check-out Santa Maria La Ribera, the UNAM area, and even (be careful), Doctores for the Toy Museum, which is wild! The parks (especially Parque Mexico & Chapultepec), and countless museums (don't miss the "house museums" that are usually free), and awesome churches, ex-conventos (especially the Museum of El Carmen with its mummies!), and ex-monasteries, make Mexico City a cultural, historical feast and, you can never really see it all. Great video, btw.

    The interesting thing about drugs and cartels, is that the cartels exist because of this two factors: drug addicts/users up North, and the firearms smuggle into Mexico from the US (some arms smuggle by the US government).
    But some how and thanks to Hollywood and the US government, México has a negative image around the world (the US creates profiles of countries that sends way of Hollywood), and even though, the US is the root of the problem, people around the world see México as being the problem.
    You can eliminate all cartels in Mexico, it won't change a thing in the US, they will find a new supplier, just like what happened with Colombia.
    The funny thing (really not funny) is that the US citizens that use drugs, see México as being the responsable.
    The question I have is: Why does a drug culture exist in the US?.
    Why does the US government does nothing to stopped it?.
    Why is ok to expect a young teen (or preteen) to start using drugs?.
    And the US government gets away with it, because they keep their citizens in a misinformation bubble.
    Remember: no drug addicts/users, no cartels.

    • @BookItTravel
      @BookItTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luyz, lots to unpack here. Very complex problems to solve on both ends. Hard to eliminate drug use and hard to stop people from making it.
      Although we mention that in the begining of the video the whole point is that we loved not only Mexico City, but the areas around it. We spent 4 months driving through mexico in a van with two kids. We immersed ourselves in the culture and had so many amazing interactions!
      As far as the drug problems go in the US and Mexico I am not going to pretend to have the answers.

    • @luyzqint3760
      @luyzqint3760 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BookItTravel No. Actually, it is simple, by stopping making drugs look cool, guns cool, and reeducate kids about drugs.
      Also, stopping people from making drugs by doing the above. Cartels only exist because there are drug users.
      There is no reason why people should do drugs.

    • @edas1315
      @edas1315 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@luyzqint3760 Thats what you want, but the reality is that drugs have been around and always will be, so the only real solution is to legalize them and educate the population about them, that way drug traffiking and all the other issues revolving around it would end 100%

    I’ve only been to a couple cities in Baja California because I’m only a short drive away but every city I’ve been to has been amazing. Worst thing that happened was I did get some money stolen but that’s whatever, that can happen anywhere. I love the people, and the food, and it’s such a beautiful place like seriously.. even the not so “desirable” or dangerous places I didn’t feel in danger, just people who are pretty poor trying to get by. I once drove down to Rosarito just to eat at this taco/burrito joint there because it’s my favorite place on earth. $2 for a huge burrito and 75¢ corona with lime. (Oh, and it’s across the street from the beach, no beach view because a big hotel is blocking it but it’s a short walk with your food to the beach). Ahhh man I miss it I’m driving down this weekend

    • @BookItTravel
      @BookItTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is awesome! We drove all the way through Baja down to Cabo. We hit some amazing spots on the way.
      You are right on about the prices you cant beat amazing tacos and cheap beer.
      If you have the chance to visit Mexico City you should! It will blow you away.

      @@BookItTravel wow that’s amazing! I don’t know if I trust my driving skills in Mexico to travel that far by car by myself. The traffic is a bit different than the US and it kinda freaks me out at times which is why I usually don’t go much further than Ensenada. But I’ve heard it’s easier once you get passed there. I’m assuming you took highway 1 to 19 all the way down?? The drive from Tijuana to Rosarito is a pretty tough one for me at times (I usually go after work on Friday evenings and it’s a bit hectic) It definitely takes getting used to. I personally have Mérida next on my list, but obviously that requires a flight. I’ll work my way to Mexico City eventually!

    Hi, guys. Man, your evidently genuine reactions make me feel very proud and grateful as a Mexican. I'm so glad to see people from the US to get rid of all the prejudices about Mexican street food and just let go and enjoy everything we have here. I don't blame you if you feel it's not very sanitary sometimes. I mean, many times I myself look the other way when they are serving it haha. I feel particularly nostalgic watching your video since I'm moving to Vancouver, Canada with my family for the second time. hi!... welcome!... really all this about if Mexico is like this or like that if you visit México extreme precautions!... hahaha... all that makes me laugh a little and I really don't quite understand it well, yes, indeed, we have problems with organized crime... BUT... the reality of our day-to-day life as citizens of this country, even in states like the one I live in, which in theory are among the "top 5", is totally normal and we practically don't see what appears in the news, it's basically all very safe!... sometimes I think that the press and the economic and political interests of Europe, Gringoland and other countries envy us hehe or something, just think about this, How is it possible that it is sooo bad and 45 million tourists come to visit us every year, and more than 4 million foreigners, mainly gringos, live here!

The size alone was amazing, but the history, food and markets were out of this world. We spent 4 months driving around Mexico in our van with two kids so I think we got a decent feel for the country. Yes, La Merced is a huge market, but… actually it’s not the biggest; the biggest market not only in Mexico, not even at Latin America, even the whole continent, in fact THE BIGGEST market in the world is Central de Abastos, a place where thousands of markets, in fact, but the stuff they sell at other markets, and being that big, it’s right now starting the Construccion at the roof of that market the biggest solar farm in the world inside a city.
    Also, about Chapultepec, yes, it’s huge, twice Central Park, but also right now it’s about to become bigger; it has 3 sections and it will have in a few years a fourth section, so it will be even bigger!

    Remember that this City has a Seven Centuries of existance. And you can find samples of any of those years. The environment reflects the combination of two cultures: Ancient Mexican's one, and Medieval Spain's, as well. When the first spaniards came, they were received by the Emperor Moctezuma like you are received now. It is a milenary tradition of hospitality. A better educated people, that unfortunately wasn't corresponded by europeans in the same way. Afterwards, things changed when the New Spain surpassed the European culture largelees. Then, an impressive country appeared. Welcome and enjoy, it is free.

    You should be careful where you are, because the place where the music sound, it is dangerous, those guys whith face mask, are the guys who robber you, well not all the time.

    Thanks for the video. I'm from U.S. south without subways. I will be visiting Mexico City in January. My question is how did you all figure out how to navigate the subway?

      Terry, I am working on a subway video now. I will be sure to try an answer this question. There are tons of maps down there, so we did a little trial and error and with in a ride or two it is super easy to figure out!
