Restoring a Antique Brass Lock
ฝัง

- I found this old brass lock at a yard sale. It was quite dirty and had a lot of patina but in working condition. There were a lot of marks and scratches, some quite deep. I couldn't remove the deepest ones as it would result in removing a lot of the thickness.
After disassembly, I cleaned the parts in soapy water and after that, I used the ketchup method of patina removal. The parts were then sanded with 240, 400 and 1200 grit sandpaper to remove most of the scratches before polishing to get a mirror-like finish. I removed rust from the key with a wire wheel and then I polished it. It was finally nickel-plated to protect it from rust.

Nicely done. What is your next project?
Thank you, It's a simple one, should be out in a day or two😁
Thanks for the video. I've been doing a lot of brass restoration myself and am wondering if you've experienced the same type of toxic metalworking communities I have. A ton of them get very nasty because there's some strange fetish for patina that infuriates them if they realize you're "destroying it" by restoring. Is that just me experiencing that?
As an aside I've found that Barkeeper's friend and a lot of scrubbing works better than anything else for the initial phase... but that's just me :)
Haven't experienced it, but I know what you mean
I'll need to try that. Thanks for watching!
