- Compact SUVs are everywhere, and many of them are CRVs. There's a reason for that, they're really good. And with this latest generation, Honda has really made a fantastic all around vehicle. Follow along this week as we do a deep dive into the 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid Touring to see how good it really is.

You’re the only reviewer doing the bike fit test which is my criteria for a new small SUV. I’m not an avid bike rider, but from time to time I want to just throw a bike in the back without taking the wheel off, and go to the beach or a trail. My other interest in a review is to see if the rear seats have a recline option, and if there are vents in the rear which you addressed. I’m surprised that I it’s almost 2024 and many cars don’t have vents in the rear! Thanks for the thorough review. ✌️
Glad this was helpful and appreciate the kind words!
Taking the front wheel off is not that big of a deal tbh. I have the 2023 CRV hybrid sport and I throw my Marin Rift Zone 2 in the back with no issue. I take the front wheel off just because I rather my bike lay flat as apposed to having it lay at an angle.
The Rear Seats have an 8 step recline feature. There are two air vents in the rear also behind the center console, along with two USB-C charging nodes.
That’s why I clicked the video never know I have a daughter she going to eventually ride bikes.
U explained the paddle shifter break mechanism that’s so cool
Great review! Got this about 3 weeks ago for the family. Getting about 38 miles per gallon. Smooth ride, great safety features, simple tech and quality interior. No complaints so far.
Great choice!
do you normally drive local roads or highway? thinking about getting one because ive been looking for a car
@@stevenlao2494 I would say about 70% city/local and 30% highway. Currently at 40.4mpg due to driving in eco mode majority of the time. Slightly over 500 miles per tank since the tank is only 14 gallons.
I got the 2024 CR-V Hybrid Sport L and it has a rattling noise coming from the windshield area when driving. I’m wondering if yours is doing that too?
The fact that they call this a compact SUV is funny. We test drove a Rav4 and the CRV both hybrid. Didn't care for the Rav4 due to many things but mostly because my husband could barely get behind the wheel. We test drove a 2024 Honda CRV Touring Hybrid on a Saturday and picked up our new one with 4 km on it by Wednesday. Rav4 would take 2 years. I've read people have to install their own weather stripping to put on their doors for the Rav 4 to help cut down the cabin noise. The Honda is so quiet and comfortable.
My 6ft 2ins friend can get in and out of my RAV4 hybrid quite easy. But yes, you’ve got to lower the seat and put it in the rear position via the electrics every time you use it. I’m only 5 ft 9” and I can kinda see your point. Anyway the Honda CRV Touring Hybrid is an awesome vehicle.
Cheers.
My husband is not only 6'4 but he is 290 lbs as well. With everything down and back he was still on top of the wheel.
My dad went with me to pick up my new crv last week and fell asleep on drive home... I think due to quiet and smooth... I did notice the firmness of suspension going over pot holes.. that is what really bugged me with my Honda Accord sport... but given that I bought for $23 then traded for it crv for $16k 6 years later .. super great investment , well see how this , hybrud CRV,ends up in the future for resale value. I am guessing that some may hesitate to purchase a used one after the battery warranty is gone since they are so pricey.
@@Katie-vy5rd You should be all good for at least 10 years with hybrid battery or even a lot longer. New generation of CRV is awesome. Both Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV hybrids are great vehicles.
Learned more about this CRV than in other videos. Nice review.
After a month with this same model (and color) I fully concur with your comments. I typically get 45mpg on errands of 30 miles or less. I had a 2018 CRV and really liked it, but the 2024 version, with hybrid battery, is a big step up with NVH numbers and overall build quality.
Hell yeah, great review! I’m going to lease one of the military gray looking sport touring models this weekend! I’m super stoked about it, after seeing a few videos like yours explaining why this car is so amazing.
🙏🏻
Always enjoy your reviews.
I appreciate that!
Nerd out all you want because this is a great review! Thanks.
Bike test is a plus. Great review!
That drive was so scenic and relaxing. Nice touch. Excellent content.
This is a great review, thumbs up !
Love the bike test! Keep doing it, even in coupes/sedans if possible.
You got it!
Thanks! This is one of the best car reviews out there.
I appreciate that!
The MTB test is awesome, great review!
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
Excellent sir! I’ve been contemplating buying one and now I’m one step closer.
You've done such a thorough, relaxed job of describing the CRV. I particularly enjoyed the drive with you in the insert: it gave me the chance to think about what you were saying while feeling as though I was driving. Your perspectives regarding both engine (as a generator) and drivetrain (as dedicated motors in inclement weather) made sense. I’m going back to the dealership today. I’ll be following your posts here forward. Thank you! :0)
Thank you for the kind words, and I'm very glad to hear you found this video helpful!
I'm driving a 2024 Honda CRV - Hybrid Touring, Platinum White 😉 No complaints yet 👍
I actually have to 2023 CRV Hybrid and it’s a very nice vehicle. My only complaints the this guy didn’t mention was the horn sound and no spare tire for the CRV Sport Hybrid models. The horn sounds very cheesy with a high pitched sound and there is no spare tire for the CRV Sport Hybrid. A tire inflator fit kit is included instead. The rear electric battery placement is the reason for non spare.
Who honks horns..??..............Don't remember ever honking one............Paul
Spot on you nailed it !!
Great review
Good review. Tech specs are appreciated. Would love to hear your comparison of the CRV vs. the Passport. I have the first gen hybrid Highlander. I'm interested in the Honda designs as well. Cheers...
PS : for future, O-6O tests are appreciated & cargo specs. I wish reviewers would do more hill ascent & descent testing. That, to me really reveals the strength of the motor & brakes.
I just bought one of these in the Sport L trim and I absolutely love it! As you say, It performs and feels like a much more expensive vehicle than it is. Thanks for the great review!
Love the bike test 🚲
One of the reasons I want to hang onto my 2006 Honda Element is because of the superior cargo to any other small SUV’s. I can fit 2 mountain bikes and dog trailer in the back standing straight up without having to take the front wheels off. Any tall cargo items are a breeze in the Element.
The B is only for downhill roads(for safety) , it's not nice for the car to use it all the time.
Great review.
We just purchased one of these. According to the dealer the B is for Battery, meaning it is running only on the battery. Also, the dealer told us that when this vehicle is entirely out of gas, it can run for 30+ miles just on the battery.
I was wondering that myself about off just the battery
@@Rough-inevitable I Googled this and it looks like the guy at the dealership was wrong about the "B" drive. As best I can tell it's like driving in lower gear with the lower gear "resistance" resulting in more regenerative battery charging. However, it is not clear to me so I guess I remain confused.
@@gerryreihsen5084 I just wouldn’t let it run out of gas than. lol
The B is for regen braking dude. The dealer tried telling me the same thing but they were off lol. I had to explain to them the drivetrain on the car and how it worked because I did hella research before buying 😂
@@TuroVJ so should you drive the vehicle in the B mode? Or when should you do so?
Makes u dizzy 😵 all these turns.. no highways there..?? Great review 😊
Specifically with the Honda hybrid design, most of the traction in city driving is coming from EV and (series-) hybrid mode, while highway traction is done mostly from the gasoline engine. This explains the unique inversion of city/highway MPG.
No shiii sherlock!
Good bike test. Wonder if it will fit 2 or 3 bikes with the smaller rear seat up as well (front wheels off). What do you think?
Probably 2 if you got creative, but I doubt 3 would fit, especially with one of the rear seats up.
Throw a hitch on it and carry 3 bikes and still have your trunk space available for a beer cooler and snacks for that gnar on the trail!
Looks super cool!
What size was the bike that did fit in the cargo space?
What’s that climb? Did we go up that with the USAPro Challenge?
How about fitting a bike in (with wheels removed) while taking 5 passengers too?
Topgun #1. 🏆
Bike test vital. ✅ Wheel size on 2nd bike?
Nice review, I am split between the new crv and the accord.
Do you have the accord hybrid lined up for a future review?
I reviewed the Accord Hybrid not long ago. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/X_CnaglIVHE/w-d-xo.html
I wish it had ventilated front seats in the highest trim like the comparably priced highest trim Accord Hybrid.
I really liked the exterior redesign, but the inside was so meh. The infotainment screen is outdated. I ended up going with the 2023 Ford Escape plug-in (an option Honda sorely lacks).
Great points on the simple knobs. I also hate the touchscreen only interface that Tesla has pioneered; it's a cheap way to do things, but ignores the ergonomic advantages of "muscle memory". What car can fit the 29" bike? I wonder if there is something big enough...
The Forester I tested recently fit my bike no problem. Checkout the video for the Forester Wilderness. It has a slightly larger opening so it fits great.
absolutely love the new redesign, the previous design was not cutting it for me
Same here!
Weird, in Australiia the hybrid version has matching trim to body, but no 360 camera system. me confused
I wanted a 2024 hybrid sport touring but I did not like the color I fell in love with the black on black so I got the 2024 hybrid sport L and I love it!
We have 2013 CRV and love it. Time for an upgrade
Just picked mine up yesterday. Feels great. No complaints so far. Can’t wait to see how long it lasts 😅
How are your MPG's? I heard they don't even come close to EPA ratings(for AWD anyways). Kind of worries me since I want to buy a CRV Hybrid AWD
@@gmfitzg I haven’t used my full tank of gas yet. But it’s telling me I’m at 35 mpg combined. There’s a video on TH-cam someone who did a test and shared it but fwd. I’m liking mine so far. Can’t go wrong with the rav4 hybrid either but they’re hard to find new on the lot.
Enjoy it!
@@Rough-inevitable. I have the Rav, but yes I agree the Honda is awesome also.
@@EatSleepDrive thanks
Not trying to be biased because I own a 2024 CRV Sport but I’ve test driven the 2024 models in RAV-4, Forester, Sportsge, Rogue and Tucson and I’ve got to say the CRV BY FARRRR surpasses all of them! The smooth and ride and the interior and most importantly EXTERIOR surpasses all of them! I’m surprised most people aren’t aware of this vehicle
great review. I don't like the back camera at all and for hybrid system, I would definitely go with Toyota rav4
The rav isn’t as fun to drive tbh and the seats in the crv are way comfier for long trips. I drive both Honda and Toyota vehicles and honda is just better with handling and practicality
I like how it's still a "compact", it's a truck at this point.
I used to own a Gen2 CRV, and your bike would have fit, with tire on, standing up with half the rear seat folded down. In that case, the spared tire was external and sothe floor could be lower, and the backopened up like a door. I currently have a 2017model. I considered moving to the hybrid, but its achilles heal is it is only rated for 500lb towing, and I use a small homeowners trailer so I can own decent milage small SUV instead of a truck. The need to bump up the towing rating back to what the ICE version is, which already was paltry.
Haha, you're right, the towing rating is pretty abysmal. I would speculate very few people are towing with these though. Honda usually does pretty good market research, and I recall with the latest Ridgeline, even such a small subset of truck buyers tow. It's certainly nice to have the ability, but I think they're banking on not too man people doing it with the CRV. Thanks for the comment though, the gen 2 CRV was such a fantastic product!
I thought after the D is S means super. Is that 4 wheel drive?
Can someone compare the ride confort between that CR-V hybrid and the RAV4 hybrid ? Thanks.
I have the rav4 hybrid next week. I’ll let you know!
A "Do not move to here !!!" video.
Hey, anyone know if its easy enough to make the back camping friendly given the large hump? Anyone? I need advice! 😊
Yep! I built a collapsible base for mine and it sits perfectly in the back. I used ideas from TH-cam for it and adjusted the measurements to fit plush. It’s so low profile I just leave the base in the trunk
Cut a piece of foam to make the floor even, and another piece to cover the whole resulting flat area.
I think you have to put the front wheel and bar handle first, then your bike will fit inside. Try it!
Tried that, doesn't work.
I wonder why the 2024 Hybrid Sport L 2WD we looked at comes with cheapy Hankook tires instead of nice Continentals. Also, AMEN on the knobs... Subaru is missing the mark there bigtime. Have to use the screen for almost everything.
For one of the best crossovers, you’d think the crv would carry a spare tire underneath… pretty much the only reason that stopped me from wanting this.
It’s a REALLY comfy vehicle to drive and it’s zippy too! Way better handling and comfort compared to the Rav. The rav feels congested inside and doesn’t offer as much interior space
There isn’t room for a spare because of the hybrid battery
@@roguepetuniano an excuse when other companies have managed. The could have attached a tire underneath / moved the battery to another location or put the tire in the back jeep style. So many options, but no spare tire in a vehicle is a good way to leave you stranded with a hefty towing bill. It’s a no for me. Other than that I think this suv is the best looking one on the market besides the Tiguan.
It’s a crazy oversight. Plus them removing the fog lights for the US market, why? The European models have fog lights. The US has blanks in the bumper and blank buttons next to the steering wheel. Not even an option. You’ll have to buy them aftermarket from Europe and install them.
@@JackGrimesMusic Fair points. Even if it had a spare, I personally would be unable to change it myself. Nearing 60 years old and having less physical strength than a guy are real things. If it happens I will call Honda roadside assistance for a tow. I also have AAA . For only $60/year AAA will tow to any location within 100 miles (4 tows per year). That works for me. I'm happy with my 2024. Everyone should make their own choice.
Looked like there were more cyclists than cars on the test drive route
Might need to go at a different time, wasn’t expecting that!
Rav4 hybrid awd does better mpg because there's no turning drive shaft to the rear wheels ,on this crv as it gets older you have to worry about tranfer case oil, bearing brackets that holds the drive shaft, couplers front and back, rear dif oil, clutch packs so maintenance cost would be a lot higher than Rav4 and I'm only comparing drive trains.
But on the bright side the rear wheel will always have power ( I believe the RAV4 rear wheels are only powered by the battery?) TFL did a roller slip test and Honda did better than the RAV4 simply because it has a drive shaft
@@jamiecraswell9368. I’ve seen all these extensive tests, buts it’s not a big deal. Not like you’re gonna climb Mt Everest.
Never owned a Honda with driveline problems.
@@johnmartin7158its a big deal especially when you have 4 seasons to drive into esp winter season.
I'm still wondering who came up with those torpedo launchers on the front.
Do u get the gas mileage it says on the sticker?
I believe the sticker is a lie. after 2200 miles I have averaged 31.8mpg, and I don't drive fast or use sport mode.
Nice "passing the Bikers" test as well.
😂😂😂
Only complaint is my hybrid Sport L not having a spare tire …
I like the size for bike hauling, but the two-level cargo floor is a major bummer. Could not car camp in it without mods.
My gripe as well..
Just cut a piece of foam to raise the floor to make it even, and another piece to cover the whole resulting flat area, and you got a cushy sleeping space.
Have 2024 CRV AWD hybrid sport. MPG highway 41. MPG City nice suburban streets 49 MPG. Lithium batteries cargo area formerly occupied by spare tire. Current total MPG 44 combined city/highway, 75% interstate 25% backroads rural area. Good warranties 3/36, 5/60, 8/100. Ultimately lithium batteries do run down and may have to be replaced (not cheap -- supposedly$5,100😢) thus the 8-year 100,000 mi battery warranty. Ergonomically very nice. Takes a little getting used to if you drive a ten-year-old Accord -- cars changed a little since 2014 model year! Be aware some dealers add markups $2,000 or even more so find a Honda dealer who is not doing that. Have not had this car very long but so far so good.
what kind of markups?
@@rfleisher1 dealer installed with denotation "market conditions". -- in other words the dealer is asking an additional $2,000 above the MSRP. I have seen this personally and will not buy from a dealer who added their own profit margin to what the factory is already asking. Also have heard of (but have not seen myself) some dealers adding a markup of over $4,000. Yikes! Essential issue going on here is that these CRV are such hot sellers, that some dealers
Good point regarding batteries which makes it a disposable car for me. Toyota/lexus metal Nickle Hydride batteries may not have the same capacity but do last. There’s RX’s driving about at 15 years old with no battery issues and big miles on them. I agree with the reviewer that the RAV4 has less utility but at least it has a spare. I’ve been left stranded in a Honda when a tyre burst. A can of foam doesn’t cut it and needs replacing every few years anyway.
The infotainment and tiny reversing screen are a decade and a half outdated!
I agree with the reviewer about the buttons being preferable than a touch screen but Honda, please fit decent screens/satnav!!!
Those things and the battery being Li would rule it out for me. I’d stick with an RX which has plenty of room with back seats down, carries a spare and is more refined and powerful. I think Honda snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with this one especially in light of competition. For some, the RAV4 despite some shortcomings, remains a more sensible choice.
This is a step up from previous models
There isn’t a review so far that’s showing me how the back seats fold down and whether they lay completely flat or not. On the RAV4 they don’t lay flat-they lay slightly inclined upward, which really limits cargo space.
There’s a huge bump. When these seats recline the bottom of the seat move with the back of the seat. Which offers great comfort to the person sitting down, but makes putting the seats down from the back very hard. They “click” into different positions. You’ll have to put them down from the side doors, or stretch yourself inside the car.
This also doesn’t have a spare tire, instead that’s where the battery is. So, it’s probably better to store a spare tire in the back than a bike. I don’t know if all hyrbrid/electric cars don’t have spares, but this is very surprising to me.
It's the same with crv
I love my Rav 4 prime
Hybrid drivetrain and build quality is great but, to me, the most impressive thing about this car is the rear legroom. It sounds lame but no other car in this segment offers this much interior space. If you have a growing family you've got to pay attention to that rear seat space. Most compact SUVs offer very little rear legroom. Now my kid can climb in and out of the car and not destroy the lower part of the center console and kick the back of the front seats.
Where are you? The scenery is beautiful.
Colorado!
Comparing the new model to the older one, the new one lacks lots of options.
Interesting. What options are lacking?
They are selling way above MSRP...what about the 19 Inch wheels....
Not in my area! I just put a deposit on a Sport-L at MSRP with no dealer add-ons. Just the $1250 delivery fee
Just got sport hybrid L with no markup - I would have kept my 2014 Accord before I would pay above MSRP!
Infotainment? Sun roof [panoramic]?
these buttons are extremely refreshing....
every old head: should have not taken those buttons in the first place
Nice Santa Cruz!
Thank you!
I will wait for the soon to come plug-in..........Or maybe a Passport Trailsport PHEV.........The V6 Trailsport burns lots of fuel.......Paul
no spare tire tho
The people riding two abreast on bicycles, UPHILL!! They must have a death wish.
I really like the new model, ordered it myself. I did not like the old model. If Honda did not come with the new model I would have bought the RAV4 because it looks more aggressive.
I know sever people, myself included, that refused to buy this even though they wanted to due to a lack of spare tire. It's a big deal out west in rural areas where help is hours away, and you often don't have cell service. If it wasn't for that I'd have one.
Perhaps, buy a spare and a jack and place it in the back of the CR-V? Unless you need that space for something else, of course.
It’s a crazy over sight. But perhaps the younger generation doesn’t know how or what to change a tire?
There’s rear mounted tire mount and top rack tire mounts, but that’s hundreds extra for aftermarket parts on a brand new car.
However this seems more of a city commuter not an off road vehicle. So most people might be close to help.
Idk for me, I keep a breaker bar, repair kits, air compressor, a Jack, a spare, and tow straps. But my suv has rear underneath storage, because there isn’t a battery in there.
Not a huge deal, but that and that fact the European models have fog lights and the US model has them removed with blank spots in the bumper and blank buttons next to the wheel. They can be installed but again extra on aftermarket parts from Europe.
I really hate that the tire pressure won't tell you each individual tire's air pressure... 😒
It doesn't??? What does it tell, then?
@@ihikebc2295apparently, it'll just read "tire pressure low" but it won't specify which tire it is... which I think is really messed up... 😒😒🙄😐
@@cherrylicious2 It is truly weird why Honda wouldn't install a normal easy-to-understand TPMS system. This is what Honda says: Instead of directly measuring the pressure in each tire, the TPMS on this vehicle monitors and compares the rolling radius and rotational characteristics of each wheel and tire while you are driving to determine if one or more tires are significantly under-inflated. This will cause the low tire pressure/TPMS indicator to come on and a message to appear on the gauge.
The big bike would have fit if it was put in handlebars first.
Apple Car Play?
Love Honda vehicles however you can keep the dangerous batteries and without a spare I cant see taking road trips.
This would’ve been a perfect suv for me if it had a spare tire and fog lights!
Exactly my same comment! It seems like they made this SUV for yuppies living in a city where those two things aren’t needed as much as in areas outside a city. Big disappointment.
I can’t believe it doesn’t have homelink
This is a nice SUV for sure but for 40k to not have a spare tire or cooled seats or tmps for every tire makes me just hold off for now.
I think the info-tainment system is disappointing.
It is, especially when compared to other manufacturers. I was blown away by Ford’s beautiful huge infotainment screen on the Escape I purchased (primarily because of the plug-in hybrid system)
In what way.
@@johnmartin7158- in so many ways! I’ll compare it to my Ford Escape PHEV. The ford screen is several inches larger. That size allows split screen between a map and other apps. The whole car manual is loaded into the infotainment screen with an issue to use search menu as well as tons of videos you can watch about car maintenance and cater tasks. I can program the vehicle to auto start and pre-condition the cabin for whatever day(s)/time(s) I want. The apps function so much more smoothly as well.
@@johnmartin7158, it's small. Why didn't Honda just put the new large screen from the 2023 Accord? Typical Honda, doing things that don't make sense.
@@truthistruth615 Let’s hope the 6th generation Toyota RAV4 has a real decent improvement with a decent screen size and MID. I’ve got the 2022.
In Australia it’s not a compact lol
Although Honda is really copying the Mazda interiors which have been stunning for years
This SUV is a pretty boy indeed, but…no spare tire, no fog lights. Bad seats for shorter persons too…three deal breakers for me.
When I first saw it didn’t have a spare I couldn’t believe it. I does come with an inflator and some gel patch kit in the side rear well. But if your tire is beyond repair, you’re out of luck.
I guess you could find a rack or rear tire mount, but that’s extra money on a brand new car.
I’ll bet you’ll see all these with a AAA sticker on the back. 😂
Also the European models have fog lights. You’ll see there’s spots for them on the US model and there are blank buttons for it next to the steering wheel. You can get them and have them installed, but again more money on a brand new car.
Simple things, missed.
This is mid size now.
The outside look good without that ugly fake vent, the interiorwise is NOT the best looking interior material. It's rather on the primitive feature side
Whats crazy about this is that it's expensive as fuk! Will never buy it.
CVT transmission and no spare tyre? I'll pass.
It’s not fucking compact
