Great review, Sarah! Amen to the diss for fake exhaust tips, but especially when there are two of them but only one exhaust outlet in the first place. Perhaps Honda was going not only for symmetry in the rear, but to match the two silver trim pieces in the front. Still no excuse. For most of the people buying these, it would have been fine to just hide the exhaust under the bumper.
I'm a satisfied 2010 CR-V owner, with an honest single exhaust below the rear bumper. Also hear only REAL drive train sounds. Finally, it has 17" wheels, which are OK, but I would have been happy with 16".
Modern Honda CVTs and eCVTs actually have an interesting quirk that you discovered: If you just stomp the accelerator, the car will fake gear shifts. The new Honda CRV hybrid is programmed with a two stage accelerator pedal. Definitely not for off-roading, gravel parking lot or grass field is about all the off-road this vehicle will see. I was surprised how well it does on twisty mountain roads since it is a cruiser and not a sports car. Seats where great for 2 cross country trips, very comfortable even during 10-12 hour drives. Hybrid economy has been excellent. This vehicle excels in it's intended environment....Runs to Costco. The back swallows a lot of cargo even with the rear seats up. Rear seat space is huge for a smaller SUV and extra bonus.

Commenting to help Sarah defeat the algorithm. Sadly, this is just another SUV shaped object that can't do more off-road than drive on a dry flat trail.
After having a CX5 for 8 years, wife and I decided to replace it with a 24 RAV4 Hybrid. We figured Toyota has been doing hybrids was more than Honda, even though I’m still a Honda fanatic at heart. The RAV is perfect as my wife’s daily and road trip vehicle. Gets upwards of 45 mpg city, and around 39-40 highway. Nearly double the city fuel economy that the CX5 gets. And, we got it for $38k OTD. I feel like the e-AWD simplifies things, without the driveshaft. And it uses that rear motor for reverse, so the main drivetrain doesn’t need a reverse gear.
@ u don’t know about Hondas experience in Japan and other countries. They’ve been having deferent models and plenty of hybrids. I’m not saying that you are wrong just don’t know full information…
As someone who is currently in the middle of a (so far) 2 month battle of getting a TPMS sensor replaced in my 2010 Chrysler 300C, I was way more excited than I should have been when I saw the TPMS calibration screen 🤣
@@dcb805 thanks, I've tried that. I think the main issue is that I live in South Africa and none of the tire stores here work with TPMS systems. And I've been to a lot of them trying to get this sorted. Also we don't have chrysler dealers here anymore, and the Jeep dealer didn't want to work on the car either. Also I couldn't buy a replacement sensor locally so I ordered one off Amazon, and it turns out it was DOA. So I suspect it's a country issue rather than a Chrysler issue
Thanks for the review Sarah! Since it has fake sounds piped in anyway, why didn't they just use the sound of a BRM 1.5 litre V-16 F1 car at 14,000 rpm?
Where else can I go for sway bar and exhaust measurements, metals used in the parts, even the rear diff final drive ratio, but Professor Sarah's automotive engineering class. Thanks for everything plus the beans.
I bought my CRV LX new in 2018 for $23k out the door. The fact that this new one cost the same as TWO of my CRV just six years later hurts my brain. I'm keeping mine forever.
THX for the CRV review! While I am one of the 2% that does care about off road and handling capability, the CRV is my #1 go to recommendation to friends and family that are not into cars and just looking for a capable commuter SUV for around town practicality. Was refreshing to get your assessment!
The turbocharged tiny little engine on the CRV is the reason why I don't recommend them... Well that and their basic entry-level all wheel drive system that is worthless on a rough dirt road😅
Really wished they kept the 2.4 engine, the tiny turbo engine cant handle the weight, and doesn’t get better gas mileage. It’s the only reason I didn’t replace my 2003 CRV with this one . But I glad I did , as everyone I know who bought this engine, needed new turbo with first few years.
@@BiagioOliverio-c7t turbos are"fragile" in that tiny engine needs it. OK, the non-turbo was too slow. When a turbo dies your ride barely crawls along. I think it is faster than the old non turbo engine. But that does not make up for the tiny motor requiring a turbo on it. Much rather have a RAV4 that gets similar gas mileage has a proper engine no turbo and a real transmission. Or probably even the Subaru Forester over either one
I have one of these and I love it. Pretty boring to drive vs. my *other* car, but as an all-purpose family vehicle I have literally nothing to complain about except perhaps the absence of a spare tire. Every aspect of the design, from infotainment to mechanical, feels restrained and thoughtful.
Check to see if it has a spare tire, either a full size spare for rougher off road use, or a narrower doughnut spare more for paved roads. A lot of companies are using a tire repair kit instead of a spare tire, that might leave you stranded some day. Our daughter hit a curb a few years ago that put a 3 inch long gash in the tire sidewall, no tire repair kit was fixing that.
I have 2011 Crv that has a terrible radio. Also the interior was hard plastic. My daughter has it now with 180,000 mi Only put tires replaced the brakes. Just replaced the starter. Thats all we did! Your review is very helpful!😂
I have a 2013 (ICE) as my second car, if you’re looking for a commute car that can take off on the occasional road trip and do just fine going up manicured forest roads, this is YOUR car. Honda does that well with the CRV.
Just got mine. Love it. But we live near the mountain and this thing does not like going up the elevation. Made a lot of noise and super heavy. But if you have a flat road, this thing drives like a dream. Very comfortable and alot of room inside, everything was made to your comfort. Over all love it compared to our old toyoto rav4
🎉 Thumbs up 👍 Honda for sending you a CR-V to review. Hopefully they'll send you all of their products to test drive. Including Acuras. Mazda should follow too.
The new Honda CRV looks so sleek. Only the rear taillights are “Questionable” as they resemble Volvos, I personally think the previous taillights that are shaped almost to be an L look better and gave the CRV more identity. I only hope that with the refresh they can match the competition as far as; Ventilated front seats, Rear heated seats, and a fully digital cluster. Some even offer power folding mirrors, and a panoramic roof.
Could it be BAMBOO carboard? I bought this same model, being my first Honda, and I'm LOVING IT❤❤. I'm 6'3"ish and a couple of pound over🙄. This vehicle sold me on the interior room and solid soft ride. GOOD POWER👍 Fuel economy has been AMAZING in my case.. Simply LOVE IT!!
Traded in a 2014 CX-5 on a 2025 CR-V for my son. Purposely went with the small 1,500cc turbo engine as I'm old school and not a fan of hybrids. The leap in technology over a decade is substantial as one would imagine, car drives like a dream and it's a Honda - change the oil regularly and it'll run forever. Another enjoyable review, thanks. You're the total package Sarah, brains & beauty.
There’s nothing old school about the engine you chose. And there’s nothing new about the hybrid tech that Honda uses in this car. Just say you didn’t want the hybrid.
I never thought much of Honda, until I owned my second and third 80's models, and especially impressed by the relia & beanability, and the best motorcycle VTR Interceptor Morse chain drive camshafts etc = my Nissans
Ok... At first I was like, "FORTY GRAND?!! FOR A CRV?!!" But after you did the adjusted-for-inflation comparison to the original CRV, I realized it's really not that ridiculous a price, all things considered. It's just that I still expect something like this to be in the $30K range. Inflation is a pernicious tax that we all pay. It sucks.
Hello Sarah, you probably won't read this, but you always crack me up with your style of humor, style and personality! You are an excellent presenter, here is to two million subs!
As always, cool car review! "Interesting Math" how they calculate the hp i have to say. I think you switched the Power Output of the ICE with the Power Output of the Electric Motors at 9:08. :)
I've become part of the market demograhics...I've just brought the Sports Premium AWD (non-hybrid) last week, thus fulfilling the age group dynamics that buy things like this.
Plus these are efficiency Michelins. Those tires can't climb that. I'm impressed with the quality of this. Honda's are usually cheaply built (I don't mean it in a bad GM kind of way) so I wasn't expecting that level of underbody and engine bay quality.
In comparison to the Toyota RAV4, the RAV4 gives you an actual spare tire in the back and the Toyota gets better fuel economy. I do prefer the Honda Hybrid system over Toyota's though. The Toyota also is Duel Injected vs the Honda only being Direct injected. Toyota also gives a longer Warranty on the Hybrid Battery vs the Honda. So just things to consider if you were to buy one vs lease.
Hi Sarah! First your reveiws are awesome - so very informative and also entertaining! So I've watched your CRV, Forester, RAV4 - seems they're all getting "meh" scores - what (of all!! Not just these 3) 2025 compact SUVs has been your favorite? (Or would you most recommend for drive feel plus handling (maybe in dirt roads not super rough off-road) plus safety)
I test-drove the CRV, Rav4, CX-5 and I was confused between the CX-5 and CRV. However, I later decided to go with the CX-5 Turbo premium as it is quick and has great handling and almost as same price of CRV but less practical. Also, Honda does not offer a non-hybrid & no-CVT option that I wanted but its a great SUV.
Shouldn't have turned off the traction control, it's suppose to simulate a limited slip differential using the brakes but when you turn of the traction control it looses that ability(or softens that ability)... In JDM models they don't do that but in USA models they do... search for HONDA CR-V Hybrid slip test videos to see what I'm talking about
We had three on the ranch. Mrs. needed a new version for school. But it wasn't even a little bit "jeepy" It was an inch and a half lower and had a fako spare mounted inside, no bueno. We sold that 2011 a year in and kept our 2002 and found a cherry 2006. They are both work horses and have done the duty of the F250, when that rig was down. Honda, had at least one since 76.
CVT and fake adult automobile sounds piped in from...somewhere. DOA Sarah, you make every single episode worth watching just being you. Don't ever change.

I’ve been watching your Vidio’s every since I saw you review the chalinger shakedown (I own one ) I thought I would let you know you are truly an awsome person and I love your content . You’re smart and funny ! Thanks for doing what you do .in my life I need all the positivity I can get . ❤
If you unclip the rear floor in trunk area there is a huge empty spot Honda should have used to create extra rear storage. Guess Honda wants people to think there is a battery there, but it's a huge empty hole and the battery is towards the back seat.
I like to hear simulated gears even in an SUV!! I wouldn’t have bought one otherwise!! Just can’t stand constant droning of the engine if it didn’t have it! I know it’s not a sports car but I also don’t want it to be soulless while I’m driving it… still helps to put a smile on my face
It would have been interesting to see if it could go up the hill with traction control enabled. That would tell us if the traction control provides any torque vectoring capability by using the ABS brakes on the spinning wheels which on the open diff would force the torque to the wheels with traction. Kind of a pseudo LSD. It would also tell us if limiting traction control disables that capability and if the vehicle even has that capability.
I mean, props to Honda for keeping in line with inflation at least. No doubt that CR-V has features the first one could only dream of. I really like the hybrid drive line on that one. Bummer about the cluster game though. Thanks Sarah! 👍
I love your reviews and your bolster tests are always fun, but some of us have broad shoulders and hate bolstering and/or need wider seats if they have it 😃
I think the disconnected tail pipe is a sound testing strategy. Whoever is testing decibel emissions probably uses an external mic. The bumper cover can absorb and reflect some of the sound waves back under the car. The artificial shifts didn't exist in the first Audi cvt's that were sold to the public 15-20 years ago. The customers were returning to the dealers complaining, saying that cars are supposed to shift... 🙄
Thanks for reviewing this crv. We are in the market of buying a hybrid one sometime this week. Do you know if the 2wheel drive is as good as the awd? I always had a 2wheel drive and I know tire maintenance was cheaper I think bc of rotation.
I didn’t know that Honda switched to Atkinson cycle motors for their hybrids. Shades of my wife’s 2014 Toyota Prius V wagon! I had a CRV years ago, and would consider one of these as my next set of wheels.
My wife has a '22 CRV Hybrid. Good car. About 50 mpg in Yellowstone NP. The hybrid system is totally different from the Toyota kind. Don't know if it's good or bad.
Not going off-road shouldn’t be a problem to most people buying one of these.
Didn’t say that, almost exactly?
Most people who buy capable off road vehicles never take them off road, they just want us to think they do

Plus these are efficiency Michelins. Those tires can't climb that. I'm impressed with the quality of this. Honda's are usually cheaply built (I don't mean it in a bad GM kind of way) so I wasn't expecting that level of underbody and engine bay quality.
Are you equally impressed with the non-cheaply built price tag?
In comparison to the Toyota RAV4, the RAV4 gives you an actual spare tire in the back and the Toyota gets better fuel economy. I do prefer the Honda Hybrid system over Toyota's though. The Toyota also is Duel Injected vs the Honda only being Direct injected. Toyota also gives a longer Warranty on the Hybrid Battery vs the Honda. So just things to consider if you were to buy one vs lease.
You, your outfits, your reviews are all excellent, thank you for making my day, we need more gorgeous ladies like you doing car reviews. ❤
Thank you, Sarah. It's awesome, as always. I hope you have a great day.
"Hairy Wood" Love it!
Love your reviews. Please review the Cadillac Lyriq next!
DOA
Sarah, you make every single episode worth watching just being you. Don't ever change.
Handsome face. Hard to achieve a less-functional exhaust tip design.
Never get tired of seeing factory Enkei rims, though.
Sarah, just remember that .2% of 690k is still 1380 viewers. So we appreciate your acknowledging and accommodating our insane and highly questionable curiosities.
It's a basic appliance, that is what most cars are cause that is what most people need.
That's certainly all my daughter wants.
like all hondas. they are fridges
Appliance is definitely the right descriptor for this thing. Zero standouts from it and it can't handle anything more than a flat road.
@@anthonyng3014 99% of all driving is done on flat roads. My percentage is lower than that, but I have a truck because I know that.
love the 1st gen CRV whose the spirit of it has long gone...
I prefer the 2nd or 3rd gen, lots of improvements, yet still had the folding table in back.
I love your reviews and your bolster tests are always fun, but some of us have broad shoulders and hate bolstering and/or need wider seats if they have it 😃
Every time I open my hood for maintenance I now find myself saying out loud “hood pop”! Thanks Sarah!
Great review. Love the outfit.
Really fun and informative video :D I like the yellow hand :)))
14 to 1 compession is noteworthy
Mazda is the same.
i HATE fake shifts, also they hurt efficiency a little. not a lot, but the fact it defeats the purpose is just annoying
The fake exhaust tips is because direct injection creates black soot on the tips and bumper, it's to keep it looking clean.
Great review. Nice serviceable vehicle.
I did not get the impression from the review that you hated this car. But then all of the scoring was lower than I predicted
Awesome review Sarah,I still drive the first gen Honda crv RD1
I probably rewatched the brake and bean test like 10 times😂
