LOVE that design for the expanding protective pod ... An incredible concept, and perfect for protection on harsh planets when the need arises to tuck yourself away and stay cozy and safe until the danger passes ...
Thank you! It was truly a labor of love developing and filming that nifty little piece of tech. Didier and the manufacturing team really went above and beyond putting together the prop, the prototype, the miniature, and the expanded interior set piece!
This deserves way more views. A solid science fiction film. The plot was simple but well crafted. The lead role had no dialogue. It was entirely a physical role and impressively performed. The character was convincing at every step. The direction to inform that performance was clearly excellent. The vistas were cinematic as was the score. I know I'm a few years late but still ... this is a high calibre piece of work, congrats to all involved! 👏🏻😊
I don't think anybody knew what was going on to make it interesting. I lost interest a couple times because nothing happened. He wake up and eat , play with some sonar equipment then walk around in a desert. What was the point?
Thank you, that's wonderful to hear! If you could, we'd also love your feedback on our most recent (also sci-fi) release: th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html
WOW! This film was that of blockbuster quality. Original ideas and storyline. Would love to see a full film made out if this. Absolute perfection of a film.
Fantastic! Absolutely Fantastic! Bravo! This film managed to tell a truly unique and thrilling story without using a single line of dialogue. And that, strangely enough, is a feat many of Hollywood's films today cant achieve with a hundred page long script... Thanks a million to all of the talented individuals who worked on this project, I loved every minute of it!
Thank you so much! Feedback like this means the world to us; and keep an eye out for more stuff we've got comin' down the pike (we have a great many shorts and beyond in development at the moment 😁)
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this! Cinematography was outstanding and the story was captivating - I think I held my breath the whole time he was in his sleep pod thing - brilliant - please can we have more???? 🥰
Thanks so much! We are indeed expanding on this project. A feature film is well into development, and I imagine if we have to wait *too* long before funding comes around, you may very well see another short within the Uncario universe. 😁
Sebastien's music score was a masterpiece and the heroin of Uncario's allure! Bravo Evelyn Stommel and a tip of the Fedora to Clifton Stommel, Mauricio van Hasselt, Leon van Waas, and all involved in the making of the reel Uncario.
Agreed! Sebastien is really something else. Honestly, I'm extremely proud to be working with absolutely everyone on this team. It's amazing to see what can be accomplished when a handful of masters of their respective crafts come together and share a vision.
"It appears to be distress signal Sir" "Boost signal gain and plot us a course number 1, we are obliged to investigate." How many times has that ended in tears in movies. Great concept, well crafted. I especially liked the cinematography changes after he engages in his... ahhh... unplanned sub-orbital descent maneuver...! Well done indeed. Two thumbs up.
Really appreciate hearing that! And yeah, the soundtrack really holds the whole piece together; Sebastien and Didier worked very closely together in order to ensure all of the music interweaves with the visual narrative!

....thoroughly enjoyed this story. I am so amazed at what can be done in under 30 minutes. Again, the site location is captivating, like so many of these shorter story films how donyou find them. It is hard to believe that so many visually stunning locations exist. This one is exceptional, was it filmed? Great job, truly.
Thanks, Peter! The moon base was a set we built in a 2-car garage, believe it or not, with a few digital set extensions for the extra-large interior environments. And the part of the story that takes place planet-side is all shot in Iceland (over the course of a 1-week trip the cast and crew took there). We also did a one-location sci-fi film during the COVID-19 lockdown; just shot here at the Haus. Would love to get your opinion on the vibes and technical execution on this one too! th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html
@@starsieve I really liked this. The fear we build in our minds is better than anything displayed, the tension was great, "We are omnipotent." No need for too much drama, "We will just take you." In another life I would have gone into film making. The short film is a wonderful medium. Great, great work. Much of this response is to your latest offering. I liked the shadow.
Thank you Matt Naylor! We are working on getting the feature film picked up (have a script, key scene /concept art paintings, workflow breakdown, budget, etc). COVID kind of put all of our prospective investors into hibernation lol. But while we wait! There are more short films, different stories of course, to come (one is making the festival rounds as we speak)!
Haha, we're getting quite a few video game related comments! As gamers ourselves (and big fans of old school scifi), we couldn't be happier with the vibes. Thanks for the comment!

More of just those two things with the film we just released a couple days ago, by the way! th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html Would love to hear your thoughts!
In response to those commenters always wanting a series a sequel . I only have this thought...these are short stories with a beginning middle and end. Enjoy these fabulous shorts for what they are not desire what you think they should be...
Right on, Phil. We definitely built this short film to be a stand-alone piece, just like with Seized. That being said, we *are* doing more world-building with Uncario. With any luck there will be a feature film one of these days (and not one that just re-hashes the short film in a longer format!). Really appreciate you taking the time to type out your response. It really is nice to just enjoy a piece on its own merits. Generally positive though to see people so interested in wanting more! 🙂
Thank you! And yeah the survival kit is something we're really proud of for sure. We've even had a few inquiries about mass-producing the backpack prop as a semi-hard-shell backpack for everyday use. Needless to say, the life support systems would be part of a much more expensive product than the one we've been asked to design. =P
The stuff planetside is Iceland (good eye!). The moon base was in our producer's garage (his wife is very patient lol). And the cockpit was in a flight simulator a friend of the director runs in Amsterdam. Oh yeah, and a miniature set we built in our back yard. URSA Mini Pro, Pro G2, and Pocket 4K, actually! Everything on the moon base was shot with Xeens, everything planet side was shot with Zeiss CP.2s.
@@tjpenton Potentially! We wanted to get it out and across channels as quickly and consistently as possible. The 4K version looks really good, and I'd hate to deprive anyone with a good setup from seeing it!

In the meantime, we welcome you to check out our additional films as they come out; we just released a new one a few days ago: th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html
Amazing work! The lighting and camera work was engrossing and the score matched the mysterious theme while still reinforcing the monotony. I LOVED the window seat shots with the actor in them, with his inner and outer gaze towards earth physically being the center of his small, otherwise lifeless world (heh) as well. I thought that the social isolation was a little flat, with a few moments or some dialogue by the intercom then I might have known if his life was intended to be that way or his obsession made him choose. The shot of his slouch spoke volumes about his distraction and discontent compared to his neighbors, as well as his nonconformity. I was hoping for a second to show a hint at why he was different. A choice to sit alone or leaving his seat with his head turned away while giving the impression that someone has joined him would have increased the sense of choosing isolation in service of an unhealthy obsession or a “citizen, unauthorized proximity” announced while turning around and stumbling after choosing a tray would have given the world an understandably unbearable feel. The dreams were tactile to the point of sensuality, so the chance to contrast that to the real world would have given it much more interest and dimension other than ‘he seems bored and unfulfilled’ (which admittedly was quite popular in the late 90s but seems stale now). But aside from that small nitpick, I thought it was incredibly good and very engrossing. I hope that you find success in getting it featured. I’m quite intrigued about how your script plays out. Even more how your team brings it to life. Thank you so much for sharing it with the world. Best of luck!
Kitty, this is wonderfully well thought out and clearly articulated feedback! You hit the nail on the head with pretty much everything we were going for, and the nitpick you speak of was subject of much discussion during pre-production and production; ended up going for what we aimed to be the 'sweet spot' between something the audience could interpret and what would be viewed just same-y sci fi story patterns. You taking the time to share your interpretation is very valuable for us as storytellers. If you have a chance, we'd love to hear your thoughts on our little quarantine sci-fi piece (80s themed) that we just released: Seized. Thanks again, either way!
Okay, lots of facts around the story are missing - and this exactly makes the short so incredibly good. Just concentrate on the core, the missing details just have to form the setting for the story. Incredible good film. ❤
Damn, dude! This is good! Which camera did you use? How long did it take you to build that set? And was there any digital set extension through CGI involved?
Thanks Cj Kalandek! It was shot on a mix of URSA Mini Pro, Pro G2, and Pocket 4K. The set took about a month to build the set I think (maybe 3 weeks)? And yes there is digital set extension, but no green or blue screen! Everything you see is either physically there, or a matte painting extension. Didier will be doing some VFX breakdown videos later on his channel(s) and I'll be doing some kit breakdowns on mine. If you want to stay in the loop, you can add your email to our sign-up spot at uncariofilm.com/ and you'll get a notification whenever we start dropping BTS / making-of content (and which places they'll be viewable)!
Like everyone else here, I thoroughly enjoyed this short. Who needs dialogue to tell a story?! Just one critique though, no helmet and he survived the crash? That shuttle was a total wreck! Don't stop making videos.
it was no doubt interesting, but this can be improved in the story department, environments and atmosphere and color grading are all spot on, only if it had a little bit more captivating story. Like in a way related to human emotions a bit more it would have been a true masterpiece.
Hey Clifton, yeah, TH-cam is being very weird lately. My comments post and when I refresh the page they are gone. But as long as you got them, thats all that matters. :)
**POTENTIAL SPOILER(S)*** That's pretty close to the idea! In this world we've certainly destroyed the planet to the extent that there is definitely a malevolent energy roaming the wastelands of Earth. Whether it be an anglerfish style lure or a temporal shift causing echoes through time: that beacon is not to be trusted!
Hey Niko. We would like to get the film on Dust. That's pretty much all I can say about that, in particular. I have limited quantity of the Bezamods and am doing direct installs on cameras locally (LA), when schedules permit/align. Would be happy to help you out if you're in the area, or if you're cool with shipping your camera to me with a return shipping label.
As is every 20 minutes! We're glad you took 20 of your minutes to spend them with us. Big up for sticking through it; speaks volumes to a person's character that they finished what they started.
Yeah, we get that from time to time! Interesting to see what people consider to be similar thematic / design elements between projects. Thanks for the reply!
Well, if you enjoyed the time spent anyway, then we'll take it as a win! There are some others expressing frustration about it being too transparent a plot... hopefully we'll find the sweet spot in future films where it doesn't bore anyone while also being easy enough to understand! Would love your thoughts on this one we just released: th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html

@@JOBRAIL1 or on a spaceship.
Like everyone else here, I thoroughly enjoyed this short. Who needs dialogue to tell a story?! Just one critique though, no helmet and he survived the crash? That shuttle was a total wreck! Don't stop making videos.
Although rare, a few motorcyclist without will survive a horrific crash even without wearing a helmet so this is plausible.
It's a PSA about seat belt safety. 😉
Amazing
Many thanks!
Perfect.
Wo bleibt die Fortsetzung ?
Sehr gut gemachter Film 👏👏👏🤌👍🙏
1 SUB MORE 1 LIKE MORE. Well done, well done. And for the music 10/10.
Thanks so much! That means the world to all of us who worked on this project! And there are many more films and videos to come!
it was no doubt interesting, but this can be improved in the story department, environments and atmosphere and color grading are all spot on, only if it had a little bit more captivating story. Like in a way related to human emotions a bit more it would have been a true masterpiece.
I swear i spend more time watcjong sci fi shorts than actual full lenght films...that says a lot for the filmmakers who produce these...bravo.🫡
CV-19 lockdown has its advantages....como este ! Way 2 go , massive fan of ! Tarra 😷....👋👋👋🇬🇧
Haha, that it does! Check out this piece we did as well (if you have a moment to kill, of course): th-cam.com/video/VKfCXpJoItk/w-d-xo.html
Hey Clifton, yeah, TH-cam is being very weird lately. My comments post and when I refresh the page they are gone. But as long as you got them, thats all that matters. :)
Much appreciated, Doug. =)
Looks like gray goo was luring people to Earth to eat them and copy their distress signals to lure more. Am I right?
**POTENTIAL SPOILER(S)***
That's pretty close to the idea! In this world we've certainly destroyed the planet to the extent that there is definitely a malevolent energy roaming the wastelands of Earth. Whether it be an anglerfish style lure or a temporal shift causing echoes through time: that beacon is not to be trusted!
Huh? What did I miss?
Grass is greener. Bullshit. Thanks for the life lesson. Good video.

You disrespect life... I bet you believe in heaven too, as they all disrespect life.

Submit this to Dust channel yet? Btw do you offer that PL mount you made for bmpcc 6k? I would like to buy it potentially
@@starsieve I'm in Sweden 😊
Oh no, that's much farther than I imagined! Well if it weren't for Covid, it would be an excellent excuse to come visit Sweden lol.
@@starsieve I'll expect you when the Covid is over! :D
Was this shot with the ursa?
Yep! URSA Mini Pro / Pro G2, and Pocket 4K.
Well thtat was 20 minutes of my life I will never get back.
As is every 20 minutes!
We're glad you took 20 of your minutes to spend them with us. Big up for sticking through it; speaks volumes to a person's character that they finished what they started.
Please tell me that there's a part 2
@@JamieBrewer-zt1gl there are much bigger and better things coming than this film. 😉
@starsieve i am anxiously waiting
For some reason this has a ‘Death Stranding’ feel to me…pretty cool.
Yeah, we get that from time to time! Interesting to see what people consider to be similar thematic / design elements between projects.
Thanks for the reply!
@@starsieve fantastic work, it’s always a thrill to see those elements which you would expect in gameplay brought out cinematically in RL, Bravo!
Ya, great job! Don't understand anything that happened or why. Totally confused!
