I'd love to see this made into a full length feature film, from the beginning; about the war that led to them surviving deep underground, their existence, to the city above, how they survived, and what happens next! 😃👍❤️
isn't that just Elysium? Pretty much the same idea, just without the war bit......
It implies there was no real war it was lies to the underground population to make power and resources for the city above!! That's why the hatch is directly outside of the above ground city and 2 pipes from the hatch to the city where the power is supplied from the underground city to the above ground city and the sign shows it's a underground power plant full of forced labour !! The people who are there was taken as children who doesn't know the truth about the above ground city they are forced to supply
192years, 11months, 1 week, 4 days, 1hour and 36 minutes and no-one on the surface even tried to look for them? What led them into the bunker? What happened down there that made it all go wrong? And why were the lights turned off? How does this man get over his culture shock? This needs a full length movie. It needs answers.
Excellent. Portrayal of maintaing power over the masses. A little like present day. Control.
This is the city for “the have’s” the other place was for the “have not’s”what a good film. Different take on dystopia! It is an all around good ride. Quality excellent. Kudos to all...
This is fantastic, but the guy at 11:37 flapping his arms about in the background made me lol XD
🟦…Yeah!
It looked tuh me like he was swat'n mosquitoes a little Too Slowly,.. or maybe that's HIS idea of what the director meant when he said he wanted everybody tuh "Look like yer fight'n".
To me, this is a modern day remake of Metropolis. The slaves are kept underground, out of view, to toil for the rich, who live above them basking in the life giving Sun.
this is the like the story behind the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown.
Alita Battle Angel is also a similar story, but with a focus on her hybrid human/robot abilities.
Exactly what I was thinking, but I couldn't remember the name of the movie, "Metropolis".
Sounds good to me. Who wants to deal with entitled rich people? Let *them* get blasted by the sun's deadly UV lasers. They can deal with global warming, I'd rather be underground, in the shade, working for a living.
@@derekdrake8706 The mentality of a slave.
"The final war"
Somebody had severely unrealistic expectations lol.
As long as there are humans, there will be war.
"The Last War" would make more sense, people might think 'last war ever' but it's more like 'days since last workplace incident'
Why is there AlwaYs money for war..
But never for Peace?
End hunger poberty,.
this was excellent, a true testament to the fact sci-fi doesn't always have to be over-the-top with fantasy
Did anyone notice the sign in the background? It was shown several times. It said 70,476 days since the final war. That's over 193 years.
In a BACKGROUND?
They were showing it multiple times
Just did that calculation...4 years later lol
@@gregjones7196 hahahaha.
A society that lives in fear runs itself around in circles until it recreates its own reality. beautiful film
This was really well done, and got me hooked till the end. Great work.
Dust your the best in finding the best high quality sci-fi shorts that leaves me feeling like I have just seen a full quality movie Every short I’ve seen so far could be great movies at the box office. This is another winner! Thank you 😊
They had no idea how he looked, they did not see him. But he took the boots and ran, bravo.
Watching this again after about a year, I forgot how awesome this movie is. Best part: everything.
Finally! A great concept with a clear ending!! Loved every minute of it!
I know we have to keep in mind that many of these filmmakers are working with limited budgets, or resources in general.
So, things that we, or I, may think looks cheap or fake..could be some really great work and effort on their part. Great job on this one, guys. Knocked it out of the park!
i find that some movies shot with little budget have more essence than some triple a movies
Teddy Cecil is a genius. He should be writing, directing and producing full length feature films.
Alternative Title: Welcome to Dubai
Hehe.. that was my first thought too.. :D
Dudai?...How about: Welcome to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Palestine!
😂😂
ahhhahhah
May a thousand camels bless your armpits 😁
*Dystopian voice:* "your council of health is here for you!"
*Man in lockdown:* 'Washes face and puts on a mask inside'
This feels awfully familiar..
I come back from time to time thirsting for this. It's so masterful with stellar character acting from everyone involved. The feel on this is incredible! The lead screams loudly of Bruce Campbell and it's great how fun yet, pivoting and heart pumpingly intense it keep you running from start to finish! Literally... The score sails you all the way through, with a plot that mirrors well the duality we struggle with everyday with the "have" and the "have nots". You find yourself really rooting for them especially when you see everybody united in 100% solidarity. Shots of the outer rim minors watching in awe hone in the feeling the whole world is standing still for him. Helio will be a name I will never forget. Thank you... (I said 100% Solidarity you *&@# a$$holes!!! You are absolutely the minority in this so don't get any ideas you low life, scum bags... Storm my Capital again and I just might show you a piece of my mind 🖕)
This is better than what they have on the SCI FI channel
Reminded me of the last job I had, bosses and all. I'm glad I'm not there anymore.
Alan Wilson me too. Hell on earth 15 years.
@@Curiousever Damn it jean, that's too long to suffer!!! For me the job was fine for 10 1/2 years then one fine day, the director promotes the most vile and hated individual to supervisor from the ranks. Heard 7 more people followed me out the door but it didn't matter, they just hire more stiffs who need jobs. Heard straight from a good buddy who retired from there that this prick was diagnosed with late stage prostate cancer which by any other definition is a virtual death sentence for men. I hope he enjoys it!!!
One of the excellents short Sci-fi. 👍💕💯
Out of the under ground and into Death Valley!💥
I thought it was developed quite skillfully, and the entire world setup was tactfully addressed, with how the world operates, the form of payment, the relations between the citizens and their security, and the obvious - the language utilized. The plot was very thought out and very good, and the filming was grade A, in my unprofessional opinion. I was left with little questions, but great understanding. Exceptional job!

Moral of the story: Just because you find a diamond does not mean that you will not starve to death. A good movie thankyou.
I'm hoping there will be a follow up.
me too
there won't be
League of Smitota 2 why not?
Viveycore Animations because these short films normally don't have them (I say normally but in truth I've never seen a sequel) and they usually like open endings
League of Smitota 2 true but this has the biggest cliffhanger I've ever seen but most likey no sequel but I like to think there will be
It's seriously no less than a feature film.. hats off to d d.o.p.

Definitely! The elite dissenters can only tell us the truth (and live) through fiction! Constantly suppressing those 'beneath' them, whilst pulling the ladder up behind them and living off the backs of the poor! They most certainly have "hidden the keys to the kingdom"! 😔
@Sword of S You are thinking of the Rescuing Hero, the old messiah syndrome. The hero is inside, each must save himself.
@@trappedinroom1014 The key comes to those who are ready.
@Sword of S He can't go back.
Jesus loves you all please repent of your sins god bless you
The world and the future go on no matter what form it take.🙂
The sign at the beginning shows how long that place has been running - just over 193 years.
Nicely done!! Well paced and thought provoking. I seriously do NOT know WHY so many people feel the need to compare every work to some other. This was fresh and fun. MORE please!
Alternate reality of life on Earth today, just depicted in a more blunt and truthful approach.
AWOKEN TO AWAKEN YOU...
I wonder, are those above even aware of their subterranean brethren? I was quite surprised by the finale moment! Good job!
Reminded me of a really short, modern and not so musical "Metropolis". Loved it!
I'm sitting here going, "This feels so familiar." And then I remember, I saw this on another channel. The good ones do get shared around, don't they? ⭐⭐⭐⭐
of course, there is always a handy ladder hanging down...
not that handy, required that stolen shoes and a quite high (natural) ability to use them
AffordBindEquipment aye they have to get in somehow and they probably cut the rest off
wouldn't be much of a story with out it.
Wasn't much of a story WITH it, either.
The ladder could be a symbol of hope for the population, a reason they continue their oppressive toil. Having no "ladder" means no escape, no future, no purpose. So it's a deliberately obvious centerpiece easily seen by everyone every time they look upwards.
Visible but inaccessible. Unless you're wearing jumpboots (which are all worn by the guys with guns).
Great watch. Thank you!
I thought this was a great short! Clear message, chaotic, 2 class system exploited underclass. Loved it!
The citizens of the pretty city are probably unaware of the prison camp right under their feet xD
This would make for a great start to a movie.
I want to see more episodes. its cool
What a great film. I thoroughly enjoyed that. I put down everything else just to watch it.
Worker escapes his dark, dystopian underworld where he lived and had an actual mining job - to arrive, dirty and clueless in a clean transhumanist utopia city where he has no contacts, no job and no home. Likely the upper world was holding the underworld suppressed. Will this man be thrown back down where he belongs or will be he accepted as equal among those above? Vote now on your teletubby screens!
He would be killed. In the underworld, he would cause an uprising; and above you could never trust him with his knowledge.
Kristiyan Kirchev No, he will be saved, washed, healed, given food and medication. He will be received by the neo-cons and liberal elite in those towers, and he will be dined and wined. Three days later he will be given a wonderful place to live with all amenities, and soon a book deal. He will be surprised how nice this ruling class is, and how little it actually knows about the misery below. They will all be eager to help and buy the book, which will be a best seller and then quickly forgotten. A year later he can barely recall where he came from, the faces of his friends below fade from his consciousness, and soon he loses the last bit of desire to return. He once wanted to start the revolt, now he believes it will destroy the world above and below.
The thing you have to realize is they went down there 200 years ago because of a huge war, so when he comes up the technology above is 200 years better, with mindsets that are 200 years more progressive, and also the only reason they never came up was because they thought the war was either still going on or had turned Earth above into a wasteland of nuclear fallout. If the people knew the world was not only not toxic, but also fervent with futurism, then of course they'd all be allowed to go up.
No Ethan. Think about the ruling class below, and what they stand to lose should the truth come out. They probably know it's fine up there...after all, there is a ladder and keys.
How very well put. I see a struggle between ruling powers with this man as the major piece in play. A struggle between those above and those below, with perhaps an ongoing 'understanding' between the two powers. With this fellow now free in the upper realm, as it were, a sort of Blue Sky On Mars theme seems possible. It's unlikely the powers above are unaware of those below. Perhaps the typical sympathetic player enters the scene and helps this man, leading him in the right direction to free both worlds from seen and unseen tyranny. A common scenario, of course. It would be nice to see some sort of twist in the norm. Not much hasn't been written and it would take quite the clever mind to make it an extraordinary story. I love the premise and I see this becoming more. A true masterpiece in the making.
Great performances. A cut above. Fun to watch. Lots of style and kick.
Good short but Geez when's the next episode guys?...
C'mon give em up or shall I present a writ of "Habeas Corpus"...
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Star Trek TOS had an episode like this. It was "The Cloud Minders." "Helios" is solely devoted to the miners, though. Only by inference are the citizens of the "cloud city" known in this take on the theme. Yes, yes lots of others differences, too, but the theme of the absolute separation between elitists and miners (read: commoners) is there.
Not exactly. We know nothing at all about the City above, just as the "denizens" underground don't seem to. I think they must think/feel that whatever is above them must be better than how they live below. Why else would they be prevented from finding out? I just really wish this would be made into a full feature film, or even multi feature films! ❤️👍
Wow, almost 200 years underground...
This was great. I liked it. He should go back and provoke an uprising.
enjoyed it, nice filming
hope we'll get there too with our movies
right :)
No budget production you have nice short films :)
No Budget Productions I can act! Like a fool! Just ask my mom!
You'll never get there with shameless sneak promotes like this one..
Not with people that can think anyway
Excellent dystopian short film. If we don't get are act together, we could be looking at a scenario such as this. Well done!
A bit slow at the very beginning but overall good. I too hope that their will be more.
The variation in pace works, imho. A good movie need not be all chase scenes, fighting, and explosions.
The part where he ascends through the hatch to the surface seemed very similar to the ending of THX 1138. But they put a really great twist on that when he turned around for the reveal of the futuristic city.
One of the absolute best shorts ever.
That lighting!
Roem Daug that's a power sign
A fantastic short, left me wanting more... also a good ending that gives food for thought about what fate awaits our hero next.
70476 days...
That's 192.95 years, some VaultTec vibes here
192.9494107108 sidereal years. Of course, that would have been from midnight when the day incremented.
these short films frustrate the hell out of me because they are all so well made and way to damned short. I want the whole story damnit!
Acaba en el Caribe🌊
THIS WAS HIGHLY PREDICTABLE
Jesus loves you all please repent of your sins god bless you
Looks very good
stargate had a episode like this
In some way, somehow in every Sci-Fi concept. Stargate has already done it
Agreed, it's an old idea. But I felt it was extremely well realised - looked very big budget to me, the acting was superior to most short films by non-pros, I liked the original soundtrack, and felt the cinematography was excellent.
Ghlain: I came here to say this
Long before that, many other sci-fi stories and movies address this theme. Logan's Run. THX 1138 is another example. Even 'Metropolis'.
and 1984
Totally a throwback to 90s scifi awesome for sure
Actually, those are aliens. They thought the World was no longer inhabited, and decided to move in. He will make a nice addition to their collection.
Excellent film! They should make a second part to the film!
So humans need light treatment, but weeds grow without light just fine. Damn weeds.
Wow 2 years to make this? It's was a great intense toe curling short movie. It would be awesome if y'all could get funding so it could become an all out high action packed science fiction thriller of an award winning movie. Thank you for sharing this gem with us👍😊
"THX1138"
DIRECTED BY: George Lucas
Featuring: Robert Duval
Same plot, except Robots are cops and they charge your "account" for pursuit, arrest, etc.
Everyone wears an intravenous-medicating pack, to "stay calm".
Similar ending (up the shafts to the outside)
Spoiler Alert:
Robot cops stop chasing Duval, when his account runs out of credits, allowing him to escape, up the shafts to the light of day.
THX is a better film, with a much better plot twist at the end.
George Lucas directed it as his first feature.
Holy crap. I did the match, and at 1:25, where the billboard is saying how long they've been 'sheltered', that number is equal to 193 years and one month, not taking leap days into account.
All those rules to help everyone stay safe and to get along, remind anyone of a certain current political ideology??
Sure sounds like typical liberal democrat crap. "For the good of everyone" and whatnot. More like: "for the good of our wealthy upper class".
Partisanship: when you’ve got a hammer, everything looks like a nail
I voted for Trump I ended up in the dump boy was I a chump
Andrew Nemeth exactly how did Trump effect u on a personal level?? I call bs....u never voted for him and are a TDS troll plain and simple
Snake Plisskin
Lots of people are losing healthcare due to 45’s policies. Look it up.
Absolutely crushed it out of the park. Great work! Congrats!
Well done. Not quite sure what the story will end up as but it was well executed. It seems like a large budget production until the very last few frames of the futuristic city. The CG was not quite up to the rest of the movie whatever enjoyed it thank you very much for doing it. I would like to have seen a more overt explanation of why the people were kept underground. I assume that they were the power generators for the people whom live topside. I would guess the film is an homage to Fritz Lang's Metropolis. What's everyone else's gas. I'd love to hear from the creators of the story
70.476 days... very cool guys, thanks.
That's like the 1922 silent movie "Metropolis"
Agree but that is from ’27 🤓
Well done Teddy and crew. Bloody brilliant.
I wish all these experts on here would shut the hell up, make a short film and show us how it's done.
Good point! But how many film critics are also film makers :)

A foodie doesn't have to make food to know food sucks.
An audiophile doesn't have to play to know the song sucks.
An oncologist doesn't have to have cancer to understand it.
I don't have to be an idiot to know how idiots make stupid comments.
NativeNewMexican
And somehow you made one... -_- By the way you're putting it,you're practically saying his OPINION is wrong...
A foodie doesn't have to make food to know food sucks, but that doesn't mean nobody's gonna eat it
An audiophile doesn't have to play,to know the song sucks, but that doesn't mean nobody's gonna like the song
The last one,it sounded like your were saying that you have to have cancer to be an oncologist...
+Jones from96 I wrote the opposite of what you think I wrote.
I was explaining that one can have a valid opinion without having to be a CGI movie making expert.
Sure but people will call something "bad" because they either don't understand it or it's just not their personal taste. That doesn't mean they're right that it sucks. But they don't have to like it either. I don't really like opera but it's highly skilled so it's definitely not crap. I just wish they wouldn't be so absolute about it and try to tell others that liking something or not is "wrong".
The trouble is with short films, is that they put so much into it you want to see more, not fair, want to see what happens next. Despite that I liked it.
THX 1138 and Logon's Run have similar action sequences culminating in finally getting above ground to discover a fantastically different world.
A little similar to life now thinking everything we do is for us.

This is a more realistic version of "City of Ember"
Loved city of ember tho
Love it, what fabulous effects, filming, cast and thought provoking story.

Vi - at 14, you ARE the hope.
Why tf are you watching sci fi dystopian short films then? Gtfo.
Peppa Pig's that way --------->
I'm 53 and I've just about lost it. (not me personally with myself but with everything else)
Vi, watch Star Trek, Roddenberry's vision is that we reach "nirvana".
This was riveting! There’s a certain type of person who identifies with a character like this- and I’m him! Acting was compelling. Some films present an environment that is interesting, but not necessarily believable. This world could conceivably exist. The chase scenes were a major adrenaline buzz! Someday I hope I’ll get to see a completely realized story. This production had to have involved an extensive investment of time, energy, money, creativity, imagination, skill, and patience. I wish you well on your career as a filmmaker!
Award winning? Was it the usless mask of the year award?
America's Future.
Kiabo Surdo I wish it was a joke.
Lupercal World's future for those who survive
This is America's present. We require lots of slave labor and sweat shop manufacturing among other nefarious things. We're the evil ones benefiting from the suffering of entire nations.
BS! People's inner thoughts are exposed by their opinions. The evil that you see is a reflection that originates from within your own self. Don't be so smug just because your interpretation of reality is bitter, profane and wildly askew. America is no more evil than any other nation, industrial or otherwise. And entire nations are NOT suffering due to America's needs. That onus is on their own government -- usually a dictatorship -- and that's NOT America's fault. The one thing that ties us all together is greed. Try working for free. Try producing something of value or that you're proud of and just walk away from it. Give it away without expecting compensation. Not just once but all the time. You can't. Nobody can and that's no more greedy or evil than profiting from another person's labor. That's called commerce....
The US dropped 26,171 bombs in 2016. That's three bombs every hour on primarily Muslim countries. That's evil. Don't forget we destroyed two ENTIRE CITIES in Japan for no real good reason wasting countless innocent civilians' lives. Evil is as evil does. Your cellphone and other goods likely came from sweat shops with suicide nets that put economic and health struggles on less privileged countries. We're benefiting from the suffering of others. I can go on. Our economic actions do limit the options other countries have and our culture invading their communities is corrosive and destructive. Ever hear of cultural appropriation? That's one of many aspects of this. It's important we take accountability for our country's bad actions and stop them from happening again as best as we can(which starts by getting our heads out of the sand)
Great fun

Impeccable. So great.
Interesting movie, but it is almost a direct rip off of a Stargate SG-1 episode. Season 4, episode 10. Basically there was a city in the underground that was basically a simulation. People working hard at a power plant for survival thinking there is an ice age, but in truth they are only fueling the power for the upper city. Below is a slum while above is a paradise.
The premis has been around a bit before stargate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_(1927_film)
My first thought was Metropolis too. The ladder here is the mediator between the heart and the hands. :-)
That itself sounds like a ripoff of the Time Machine, where the Morlocks provide power for the Eloi
porpus99 And that which you mention, like this IS a blatant, inferior rip-off of the amazing, provocative and ORIGINAL early sci-fi classic by George Lucas. 1970 perhaps. "THX 1138". With Robert Duval and the always interesting Donald Pleasance.Check THAT full length masterpiece AND then tell me how good this short, unimaginative crap-show was! Everybody can thank me later for the recommendation.
Well written, well executed. A tight film. Fight for the Resistance. Win.
I think that face mask will look good here today in 2020
