    I own the 2021 Benelli trk 502x in yellow. Heavy but stable on a very windy day on open highways. Fast for its size and weight and very economical. I'm confused by the economy to weight ratio, but no regrets.😁😁😁

      Glad you are happy, but the quality of welds shown on these bikes in other reviews and real world off-road shows it shedding parts. If you are only riding on road, seems like better on-road options (including bikes like the CBF500 that is cheaper than the X)?? I wanted to like Benelli, but where I am they are priced like Japan but look like China. Hope your experience is better.

    tbf, the 4000 rpm 62 mph vibration on the KLR (mostly through the seat..lightly) goes away at any speed above. My 2018 will do 75 mph all day long and has zero vibration.
    No doohicky (counterbalancer chain adjuster) changes on the '21. I just adjust it (my '18) every oil change and use a good quality synthetic.
    I've had a CBX, Concours, all types of Honda's, and still have a couple old Triumph's.
    My black on black KLR has never disappointed.

    I was all set to buy the new klr650 adventure then I discovered the Benelli 500x adventure bike, wow I thought, what an amazing bike, and it is. But I want something more dirt oriented. What I'm trying to say is, your review is what helped me finally make up my mind.

    Great video thanks for the information 👍 I'm tossing up between the well known Honda CB 500x or the Chinese made Italian style Benelli. I think for resale the Honda would win hands down.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome, thanks for watching! My personal favorite between those two would be the Honda because on a long ride, Honda’s reliability would be of greater value than the satisfaction of having snagged a slightly cheaper Benellli. Depending on the country you live in, the service network would also be a consideration. Hope this helps.

      I appreciate all humble opinions, especially ones that point me in the way i was already leaning! Living in the central US, i'm often many hours if not a few days from the areas i want to explore and adventure to. So, i need a bike that can handle itself off road, but also handle a large number of highway miles. I'm drawn to the reliability of Honda's 471cc engine. They've had that engine in multiple models for nearly a decade now, and i have heard very few issues stemming from the engine. There's also a community of modders who outfit CB500X's to be more offroad capable, and Rally Raid in England makes wonderful products towards that purpose.

      Having owned KLRs and recently a 21 CB500X.
      Id stick with the CB.
      You don't have to worry about oil consumption, quite a long service interval. Is adequate for hwy use, less a passenger. And the updates to the 22 model were right on point.
      Riding in the 50 mph range get you 80-90 mpg here in Canada.

    If I was going to spend $18KAUD on a Tenere 700, then I'd spend a bit more for a Triumph Tiger 900.
    The Honda CB500X is a great value proposition (if a little underpowered) and so I'd spend marginally more for a Suzuki V-Strom 650.
    For power, price, range and breadth of ability, the V-Strom 650 remains the unchallenged King in the wide brown land Downunder.
    Can't wait to see what Suzuki develop for it's parallel twin replacement, my last dinosaur juice propelled motorcycle!

    I have the Versys X300, i have nowhere to go but to the 2022 CB500X or the Tenere, i really like the level of compromise that the bike (Versys 300) offers, so i wouldn't feel comfortable riding something 50 to 60 kilos heavier, for example, even though the TRK can be better equipped, it's too heavy for its power and it's just not a smart option for off road, it should only be considered a touring bike imo, and I'm someone who has taken a Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 to places people think it shouldn't go haha.
    Since Kawasaki most likely won't use their Ninja 400's engine for any future Versys, if i wanted to go for a better bike (not necessarily a bigger or a more powerful bike), i would be forced to lean towards the Honda.
    Also, I'm not gonna go back to 1 cylinder ever again, and i wouldn't get a cheap second hand 650 BMW instead of a new bike, as i said, i don't want a thumper, they vibrate more and sound not particularly great.

    • @ws8080
      @ws8080 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed Benelli shouldn't be an option unless you just want to ride it on road. But there are better options at same price either way.

  • @BikerGirlTraveler

    The CBX is not an Adventure bike. We all know that yet a lot of people keep
    Referring to it as an Adventure bike, even Honda does that. The same is true for Kawasaki’s Versys 650, which was not listed here. Another bike missing that should had been is the Suzuki V-Strom 650.
    For me, I will never buy anything other than a Japanese bike. Owner survey after owner keep putting all big 4 Japanese manufactures as the most reliable. Yamaha being the most reliable of all with 11% of owners reporting problems. Compare that to 40% of BMW owners and 42% of CamAm owners. Hell, I would trust a Royal Enfield Himalayan over the Chinese bike. Yeah it has no balls, but it has proven itself to be extremely reliable. A true workhorse. Oh and cheap too.
    The magic of the T7 is it’s simplicity. No electronics except for FI and IBS. The less electronics the less there is to break down. The number one reported problems by motorcycle owners in surveys was electrical/electronics.
    I am planning a trip though Central and South America, having a bike that can handle almost anything you throw at it, having the reputation of being one of the most reliable bikes out there, and dealers in pretty much every country is important to me. Good luck finding parts and someone with the specialized equipment and training needed to service a bike loaded with electronics (like the BMW bikes) in the middle of no where in some third world country. I saw a video of some guy in a BMW 750GS stuck in Colombia waiting for parts that were going to take between 30-45 days to arrive. That is not only 30-45 days of wasted travel, but the cost of daily hotel as you wait.
    I find it amazing how so many people never think about this factors. May be because they plan to only travel through developed countries. Here in the US you can find Ducati, BMW, and other exotic dealers in most big towns. But for international travel through third world countries, well, that is a gamble in my opinion.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All fair points. I have always kept reliability as an important factor in my purchases. Have owned one or more from each of the big 4 and never had to worry about reliability especially for the type of riding I like to do. The VStrom & its contemporaries had been compared in the first video (th-cam.com/video/_A6_W6BoEFY/w-d-xo.html) and this was the follow up to that with the bikes I couldn't cover in the previous one.

  • @sercio994
    @sercio994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great video, honestly.
    Side note about the new KLR: it is confirmed that she has the same problems as the 2nd generation. Imho it's not tolerable to have those issues in a 2021/2 engine, especially the DH and the oil consumption past 5k rpm. Big Rock Moto's channel has some videos about it. Kawasaki tried to milk the cow with the KLR, they should have addressed all of those problem first and only then make the KLR available to the public.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! And it's a bummer that the gen 2 issues are still not sorted but atleast she's unchanged, lol. IMHO such issues or lack of reliability on road going bikes is a deal breaker in current times. It's unfortunate how far they're pushing customer loyalty... not cool Kawi! (I have one by the way haha)

    If I was serious about offroad performance Tenere is the only real choice here, but it has the price to match. Otherwise CB500X is the sensible choice. Low cost, easy to ride and Honda reliability. It let's you do more riding and less repairing. The KLR is a problem riddin dinosaur that is way too heavy for the power. Benelli is cheap yes, but you sacrifice quality and customer support and service.

    The base KLR is $6,699. Personally that is the bike to get for the KLR because the adventure spec accessories are not that good honestly, the frame sliders do nothing to protect the bike, and the boxes look like they will break apart after a hard fall. I read up on that a while ago, it was about €1k more expensive in India. But India is in the same tarif zone as Thailand where most of them are built, apparently India get japanese built bikes, they get higher tarifs and hence a bigger ticket price. Odd eh?

    • @RiderXp

      It is. Some company have found a way to navigate that. Ducati’s have become cheaper than they used to be, still more than western countries. Tenere 700 is off the list as the gas tank is way to small. for a true ADV bike, and not enough range, Who wants to be looking for gas stations and having to make detours to get gas. even the Honda has a larger gas tank,, 15.9 vs 17.5 Put a 21 + liter gas tank on the Tenere and then you would have the best ADV bike.

      I know. It's completely different here and Hondas are considered 'cheap'. I think Honda as a company hasn't figure out a way around the duties for CKD/CBUs. Ducati seems to have done a better job at that and I find some of them being sold at similar rates in India and US.

    Does anybody know which rear tire is on the Tenere 700? I love that flat look! Is that the Pirelli Scorpion at the 7:30 minute mark?

      Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR

    Seriously, what about the Suzuki V-Strom 650 and Kawasaki Versys 650? Those were food contenders.

      They have been compared in the video before this. This is was a follow up video to the bikes I didn't compare in the previous one. Here's the link to the first video. th-cam.com/video/_A6_W6BoEFY/w-d-xo.html

      haha! That’s a good one. Since i’ve been doing trackdays and trackday organizations tend to enforce db limit, i have no choice but to have quite ones.

    Suzuki VStrom 650 is better than any of these. Bulletproof engine, great power and accessories are plentiful. Off-road…..meh but good enough for light duty.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. They do seem to suggest the XT could off-road but there are much better options if one is serious about off-roading. I’ve another video comparing middleweight adventures tourers for that reason.

    Benelli? Really? The price isn't that great in US market - better options cheaper/same. Last real world comp I saw with a Benelli vs. a RE Himalyan crossing desert and moderate rock incline, the Benelli was shedding parts, bottoming out, and only decent on the road.
    2nd - in this class and size, where is the Versys 650 and Vstrom 650? You are including other 650 and other bikes that are more on road than off, so shouldn't they be here instead of the KLR or included?
    3rd: I don't care AT ALL how it sounds. It is irrelevant. I need a reliable bike to take me on adventures, not to sound good standing still.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Benelli vs Himalayan is probably a good comparison. I didn’t think of that. Thanks for that. I actually covered the VStrom 650, Versys 650 & a few others and this video was to cover a few remaining bikes that i wanted to cover in the first video but didn’t because it was getting too long. About the sound, i understand that in this category of bikes most people wouldn’t care about the exhaust note but there still are people that do care about it. So i make it a point to add chapters in all my videos so people can skip the sections they don’t care about. Appreciate your detailed analysis and feedback though.

    KLR reminds me of a Walmart bike , yeah it works but not the best.

    The choice of vfm is bullshit. Tenere with 11000$ is not cheap. A2 cb500x with 8000$ is not cheap and definitely not vfm.
    The one and only vfm for today is cf moto 800 Mt.

    Thank you so so much for you excellent video on the comparison on these different bikes. I'm in Australia and so close buying an adventure bike
    I was all set to buy the new klr650 adventure then I discovered the Benelli 500x adventure bike, wow I thought, what an amazing bike, and it is. But I want something more dirt oriented. What I'm trying to say is, your review is what helped me finally make up my mind.
    Iove the fact that you included the sounds of each bike.
    Best review by far 👏

    Not a bad review, but, like many others, rely on cliches ... beginner bike. Bigger is not really better ... usually just denotes more money than actual riding skill.

      Thanks for the feedback. I’m constantly trying to find the balance between how people perceive them in the west vs asian countries. I have audience in both parts of the world. I started off on a 150 and gradually move up to 250, 650, 600 and just got myself and xsr900 today after 14 yrs of street & touring experience and about 3 years of road race track. So i’m actually a big advocate of doing it gradually.
