    I test rode three bikes before making a decision, the Tiger, the VStrom, and the V85TT. I was impressed with the Tiger and liked it a lot, it was quick, light, and nimble. The VStrom was likewise light, quick, and nimble, but it just didn't make me want one after riding it. The V85TT was a bit heavier (although it carries it's weight well with a low centre of gravity), nimble, and not quite as quick as the other two with less power.
    I went with my heart not my head and bought the V85TT. The Travel model had almost every extra I wanted as standard fitment and it was the only one with shaft drive. The engine character sold it for me, the engine and torque is lovely and just so comfortable to ride. After 11,000 miles I'm having more fun on this bike than any other I've owned.

      hi, have you had any trouble, e.g. with the shaft drive overheating or anything else? I like the V85TT very much, but honestly am a bit hesitant bc of the italian brand.

    • @BlokewithaBear
      @BlokewithaBear 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@alli333o I was exactly the same, I spent almost a year trying to convince myself I shouldn’t buy it because I’d never had a twin or an Italian bike. 🙂 But the test ride had sold it to me so it was inevitable I’d give in and get it. I’ve had no problems with it and I’m really glad I bought it. Buy a 21 onwards model as they have tubeless tyres, pre 21 had tubes tyres.

      I like the V85TT, and it was my second choice after the Tuareg 660 that I bought. I think the V85TT would be a slightly better pavement tourer, and shaft drive is wonderful. I hope to do some distance touring and to get off the beaten path, and I feel that the Tuareg can go wherever the V85TT can go, but the Tuareg has a little extra off-road capability that could make the difference in a pinch. The V85TT is attractive and has character. I could even see moving to the V85TT if I get tired of chain maintenance.

      @@joeyshmoey8514 yes. chain kinda sucks. I like the guzzis but the weight of the Tuareg caught my eye. Shaft drive is probably heavy, the rear diff and all. I wish the Tuaregs came with a pannier package since I'm more interested in buying used and price difference is nominal. Tuareg wins suspension travel and ground clearance.

    This best bike for you is the bike that gets the best service and aftermarket support both at home and where you ride. My good friend and riding buddy is dumping his Tuareg as it spent way too much time in the dealership following their issues doing the routine service. Which is really too bad, as I enjoyed riding it when we swapped bikes.

    Nice overview, you’ve shown that there are some really great bikes in this category, just depends on what you’re looking for. I spent about a year researching my next purchase, coming from an ‘08 VStrom 650. I wanted something lighter with a lower C.G., better suspension, tubeless, some electronic aides, easier air filter access (sorry, I don’t like removing the gas tank to get to the filter!) NOT needing more HP. I ended up buying a Taureg 660. We still have ice and snow on our roads and I can’t say too much about the Tuareg, but I can say that the quick shifter is amazing, especially for someone who likes to ride standing up. Looking forward to the spring thaw!

      I actually just got a new to me 08 VStrom 650. Only 2400 miles when I purchased it from the original owner who kept it in his climate controlled garage all these years, it's absolutely mint!
      I was not all too excited to find the air filter under the tank lol. Who thought that was a good idea?!

      @@kyle1758 congratulations on the purchase! I love my 08’ VStrom 650 that I bought new. In 16 yrs the only issue I’ve had with the bike is the ABS unit has gone flakey. Got myself the Transalp last week, and it's waiting on the garage for the heavy rain to stop. I come from a V-strom 250 and a (old 2009) 650, and the plan was upgrading to the new 800DE, but after test driving both, and the CFMoto 800MT, the Tracer 700, and my father have the BMW GS850, the choice was pretty simple. I bought it with almost all extras I can get from Honda, so price wise it was way over the 10k. But I think, for my use, it was the right purchase.

    As you can probably tell from my Avatar, I DO like a Ducati. But I'm thinking that they are kinda going for ridiculous prices these days. 15k for the base Scrambler-X is 3k more than the new Triumph, which is already near the top of the price list!
    The Multistrada 1250 can go for 25k! And the servicing costs are eye watering!

I have a dedicated dual sport so I was looking for something that could take me cross-country and so some basic off road adventuring. Given that I have an excellent local service representative, who actually owns a 660), figured I'd go with the bike I liked the most. Honestly, Transalp would've been the ideal bike if it had 19" front wheel and CC. This bike isn't made for hardcore off-road anyway, so 21" is wasted on this bike.
