Thanks! Could have got it, but being an old USN machinist mate, I would have needed a big hammer and would have definitely broke something. Taking it of was a lot easier than trying to replace the ignition wires with the base in place.
I am doing a carb rebuild ad 11. 1957 7.5 hp Johnson. In the process I noticed in the hole where the silver cover needs to be put back in there is a needle point. Should it be there? If not. What is it for? Thanks. Sam

I could have used this video two weeks ago when I spent 45 minutes trying to align the magnito to the holes before realizing the ring moved also. LOL

The two wires go to the coil once grounded through the the motor and the other wire goes to hot is that correct
