I have watched alot of your videos. I have a 1968 Seaking (Chrysler) 3.5hp. I installed a new old stock coil which tested good using instructions from your other video. I bought a new condenser but the old one tested better per the manual so i left it on. Replaced spark plug and made a new lead. Everything tests good and is installed up per the service manual but still no spark. This is a family motor and I'd really love to get it running but I'm lost at this point...

Thanks for this video. I am struggling with spark on the top cylinder. This was even after I replaced everything on the magneto plate. I went back in and replaced coil and plug wire again, I got spark, but when I put the motor in the water it still wants to run on only one cylinder. I will try to clean the points and check my coil placement, wish me luck. I love your videos, by the way.

Sounds like points to me. Swap points to move trouble.

BRP point sets have shown varying levels of quality for the past few years. One of the problem I've come across often is that, right off the box, the point's mating surfaces do not align when closed. As any manual will tell you that these points are bad., I'll try bending the points' arm next time I'm faced with that situation. Au revoir et merci mon ami !

Great video Mike. Would be curious to hear about installing spark plug wires on the mag plate. Any things to be careful of there.

Love your videos, Mike. I was wondering, will that tune-up kit work for a 1975 montgomery ward? And perhaps if you knew where I could locate some coils for it?

Mike, the Sierra points I’ve bought recently do as your 4th tip says…Not fully adjustable with the screw cam. Thanks for the bending tip.
I also find that if they are able to be closed the contact faces are not anywhere close to parallel. Do you recommend filing to make them parallel or bend the daylights out of them until parallel?

T Mike when I rev my 8 hp evinrude high up in neutral. it " loads up" .. what I mean by this, is the rpms want to stay high for a bit, after ive throttled it down,, the rpms come down very slow, but do come down.. wondering what causes this? is the motor getting too much fuel at high rpms? is it going too lean, and that makes the rpms shoot up, kind of like when you run the fuel out of a carburetor and right before it dies it goes lean and the rpms shoot up for a few seconds?

a local guy brought a Evinrude Lightwin by my shop to see if I can get it running for him. I'm not seeing spark my question is what kit do you use with this engine and spark plugs, it has champion J8C plug now with a .035 gap. he likes the light weight engine it helps him get around with it at the boat due to his handicap.

Hey Mike. Thanks for the tips. I have a similar problem with new BRP point sets. I cant adjust enough so they will open. Almost like the hole that goes over the adjustment screw is to big. So ive just been keeping the original oem points, filing and cleaning them and they still work great. Im done with buying new point sets altogether.

My "tool" was a piece of PVC pipe I had lying around.
