The Process
---------------------
In this video I use Adobe Photoshop CC to redesign 5 popular Package Designs from famous brands. Each package design required a unique set of skills to complete. My main focus was on simplifying the logos, colors, fonts, typography, layouts, and overall design style. I created some custom illustrations using Photoshop.
This was a great design challenge, and it's something I recommend everyone try out!

@@BrandonShep Sorry I deleted it I was just wondering. Dove is all like oil is bad. lol They are crazy. I will not reply anymore I don't know why I brought that up. I just made that political. I need to stop watching the news they can make you crazy.
My favorite is the Gatorade one. I do always find it odd why they used grey on their packaging. Grey definitely does not show energy but rather lack there of.
Haha, I know right?
That shiny grey was on a lot of athletic sportwear in the 2000s it was the most popular color for football (soccer) cleats in my country, but black has definitely taken over now
That's only the G series. Gatorade labels come in all types of colors. He literally designed a label that basically already exists.
@@jacenjustice Nope, basically all their products use some form of grey for their labels. Even the non-drink items.
@@jacenjustice ratio
I thought he was gonna over simply everything way to much as a joke, but the designs seriously look good, the cam bells, and the orbit look especially official!
Yeah I would still by them
The Gatorade one was the best of the lot, for sure, but the Campbell's one was ... bad. Almost Tropicana-level bad. (Look it up.)
Those definitely feel like a next step if they wanted to change it up too

The “Dawn” one was short but the duck : ADORABLE! You blow my mind how you do things I would never think of doing. Keep up the super work!!!
i love ducks haha
The Gatorade & Orbit redesign were by far my favorites! I would love to see those in stores one day!
Same!
i said the same, i didnt like the other ones especially dawn, gives off more children bath soap vibes
The black just looks weird to me I think it needs a different color for Gatorade
@@santicheeks1106 i did think so too, but its better than grey and the logo cut out in the middle is fire, I just dont know what colour it could be aside from white that would look better and not like heavy on a flavor color
It's boring
I have to say I really like the „trashy“ cheetos design and think it‘s part of the brand appeal. Like, you don’t buy cheetos because you want something fancy, you want quick and dirty satisfaction
Yeah Cheetos should be something you eat with a monster energy drink after you take a break from snowboarding. It's not a mature snack.
Dirty satisfaction lmao, perfectly said.

Now this man does logo simplifying right in my eyes. Actually taking away all the unnecessary mess and fluff from the original and making it neater without removing too much of the personality. The Gatorade stands out as my favorite.
i think the reason the gatorade text is so small is because the logo and bottle itself is so iconic you don’t really need the text to know it’s gatorade
I think you're honestly just really good at adding *character* to designs. Whether that means simplification or overcomplication, you really make it pop.
I don't think either of the "oversimplification" or "overcomplication" videos were actually oversimplified/overcomplicated. It's all good designs with important details and a warm approach. If anything, it's minimalistic.
If it was oversimplified, the logos wouldn't have any gradation, any shadow, way less colours, way less elements, the text would be normalised and flat without any bending with all letters equal to one another... Yeah, this isn't even close to oversimplified logos. But I understand he used that title to attract more people.
@@EugeneOneguineI mean yeah but then it wouldn't be better or as good like he said than the original, it is simple, but *oversimplified* ?, maybe...

This is minimalism done right, i do still prefer some of the designs over yours, but yours are still probably the best simplified brands ive seen. my only real nit pick is that you didnt add some white on the bottom of the campbells soup can, i mean, having 2 colors on the top and on the bottom on a can is pretty much campbells brand.
This is literally what my comment was going to be
@@HetanshuBharadiya this reply made me remember this comment and realize that I was somehow extremely profound when I was ten years old-
My only problem with these is the Cheetos one, you made a beautiful papery fire effect, but it looks strange compared to the detailed cheeto, although difficult it would be good for the cheeto to have that papery effect. I absolutely love the Gatorade though
I think the dawn one is very pretty, but the duck looks more like a rubber duck and it doesn’t evoke that eco-friendly feeling. Other than that, great work! I truly love your design work and your unique style 💕💕
Dawn's redesigned logo is literally Nivea😂
Yeah their whole schtick with that is that it's gentle enough to be used on ducks in oil spills. Their commercials back this theory up.
This was my problem with it too. It looks like a mascot and detracts from the fact that the ducks have a real world connection. It becomes more of random branding noise that doesn't mean much.
Exactly my thoughts. I loved them all but that that one I thought more of Ernie from Sesame Street than saving the environment.
@@mattiascaccabarozzi I thought the exact same thing. I'm guessing he doesn't spend much time in the skincare aisle. 🤣
The Dawn redesign was soo good! But It's a little too cute, you know? Feels more like a babies shampoo, I think. The Gatorade one was my favorite easily, I really like the lightning being cut out, it's a really cool touch!
I kind of felt the same way. But the ducks on the original are pretty cute too, so I think with a little adjusting, it could probably work. Thanks for watching!
@@BrandonShep Just got to give the duck a little edge. Maybe sunglasses and a leather jacket haha. Just kidding, but I love your videos. You're both very talented as a designer and artist, as well as at creating engaging videos.
Im not really feeling it, I love brandon but im not a fan of that geometric round with shadow art style all the time, especially when the text looks professional.
I think if the dawn redesign had kept the original logo it'd be perfect!
Rubber duckies go in bathtubs not on dishes. An over simplified version of a (non-rubber) cartoon duck would probably have been clearer.

The Gatorade is definitely my favorite
1:56 I literally was now working on a design with a yellow background that had an ugly black shadow. Thank you.
I liked all of them! The only one I was a little hesitant about was the Campbell's, I think taking away the half red/half white background made the can a little too unrecognizable. The type where if you were looking for it in the store, you would have to double take at it because it's not immediately standing out.
That’s how I felt too! The contrast is definitely a need-to-have for Campbell’s, even if it was just a small part. Otherwise, I did like the idea.
Yeah. Like with the Cheetos one, he put a red colored object on a red colored background.
Having that half red/half white allowed for the tomato to be fully visible, and many other foods would stand out in the white. But any red foods would blend into the background far too much.
And the can cannot be white unless the logo/Campbells text changed color or gained some special border or surrounding shape of color.
Overall, Campbells is just too iconic and too good to even change.
@@minerbryan3701 People are gonna confuse Cheetos with Doritos Nacho Cheese if this bag design existed tho
With your "minimalistic" design you put an emphasis on modernity which the majority of graphic designs in charge of corporation logos miss the mark on. This was where the "simplistic = bad" hate originated from, and it's appreciated to see someone do it right. Instead of just slapping a few elements on the packaging, you apply logic and a theme which ultimately utilizes the purpose of simplism, which is to center the attention to the actual product. Great video! keep it up.
3:53 HE'S TOO YOUNG TO DIE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
2:01 omg the orange is just... Ahhhh
Honestly what was so iconic about the original campbells cans was specifically the red top white bottom look. The new one is ok I guess but doesn’t say campbells
also bears way too much resemblance to coca cola
Yeah, the two tone design has pretty much always been the Campbell's "look." It's how you can spot them on the shelves among every other brand.
So true I was about to comment the same thing!
With that golden plaque. I was surprised that he kept the tomato and not the logo/plaque.
That and the redesigned Campbell’s reminds me of generic tomato sauce.
The Gatorade redesign was definitely my favorite one of this collection. With the Cheetos, I feel like the craziness of the original design appeals to the teenagers who are the main demographic for the product...but then again the simplified design might appeal more to the mothers who are doing the actual purchasing...
As a teen the simplified looks better

7:35 without the drop shadow it actually had a very retro 50s look. Which was nice. Slightly less so with the drop shadow
I dunno about you guys, but to me this guy's designs just feel so much more interesting then other simplified logo's like pringles. Stuff like the hot cheetos and the dawn dish soap stick out to me because they have a sense of style, and you can see that despite the simplicity, other details were taken into account like the shape of the bottle or stuff like that. I dunno. His designs don't feel lazy to me like other simplified logos do.
I think it's because Brandon tried to make it look good while being simple, companies just try to make it more simpler
Also the Pringle’s logo is just weird
i like that you use this trend of minimalism that has made so many brands just look boring and showed techniques for actually keeping the logo interesting
Found you on IG and followed you there and came here to give you a sub as well. I’m obsessed with your skills. You make it look so clean and effortless and I know that’s just years of experience and talent. Now I’m just looking at every label of everything and seeing how messy and chaotic it all looks 😂
My favorite has to be the Orbit re-design. Honestly yeah, it has that clean modern feeling to it and stands out! Great job man!
My favourite was the Orbit redesign! It’s so much more clean and Modern and easy on the eyes! Although in my opinion the original design for Orbit would probably capture my attention more
Yeahh i was gonna say that!! For me, it's the blue and white ring around the 'O' which always catches my attention and makes it easily recognisable
look at the candy shelves of a market, it's full of flashy colors and "over the top" designs, it's meant to catch your attention. the orbit redesign looks too bland, looks more like something you'd see over the counter of a drugstore
Yeah
I personally think that the campbells can should keep the red top white bottom, as its been a staple of the brand since their second redesign
I agree. It also makes me think of Coke as well, which is bad
And then he added gold as a “homage” when literally it just looks ugly and golden for no reason. If you got the gold text you need that token thing.
Yeah that was the only one that wasn’t just better.

Holy crap, A TWO LETTER NAME, those are extremely rare!
Majority of the reason these designs are complex is so they stand out. There is a whole science behind how to make things noticeable on grocery shelves and what shelf they go on and what order so they are recognizable. You can find a bag of Cheetos in a sea of bags easily. Same for the other items they stand out since they are memorable. The Gatorade is the only one that could definitely use a new design as PRIME totally put them to shame with their bottle design.

That gold medal is important for Campbell's as it marks the first time they became a recognized name in the world of soup, removing that would strip them of their identity.
It'll be like if Pabst Beer removed the Blue Ribbon design from their packaging.
i was randomly recommended your videos without any design background and now i can't stop watching. you're doing a very good job, thank you for sharing it with everyone. 👏

Got randomly recommended this, and I loved it. The only one I didn’t like more than the original was the Campbells. But the dawn one especially sparked joy
Gatorade was a huge improvement along with Orbit. Hot cheetos and campbells however seemed like a miss and both seemed kinda flat or very very little character.
Sometimes minimalism works, sometimes it doesn't. It was a fun experiment either way!
But ngl, both have the intention to be exactly that simple, but pretty cool. And I think it really is.
@@BrandonShep Campbells Soup is iconic for having both that red & white background not just red. I think that if you might've added a white slim line either at the top or bottom, it would've definitely passed in my book for sure. Great job as always man!
i really liked the hot cheeto one tho. the only bothering part is the fact that the cheeto is red and the background too, which makes it hard to seee.

Adding the gold emblem at the top left of the tomato soup design might have been a nice touch. That area looked a bit empty and that gold emblem connects to the brands heritage.
All of them are so much better and more simple, love
I love the Gatorade and Orbit redesigns the most, they are just so good! I really like that idea you thought of where the lightning bolt in the G becomes a cut-out so that it matches with the drink color!
I think that Gatorade and Orbit should really use your packaging designs, they're just too good!
Holy crap the gatorate and orbit ones turned out so nice!! That’s like- minimizing to suit a purpose and making the packaging appeal more to the brand itself- I think the Gatorade one is my favorite because it looks so much sportier and more legible, makes the bright colors pop so much more, and I love the idea of the cutout being a functional design element for the G’s bolt! Well done!! I wasn’t sure about going simpler on a campbells soup can, but you actually made that work beautifully too, wow! And then your “complicating logos” companion video adds so much spice to overly bland and wrongfully simplified ones (not Monster, its design is slick, and complicating that one was just cool fun), and makes some really cool things with them! (I want my butter to look like a gravity falls scene dangit! I want my chips to be flashy!!)
I like the vibe of the new cheetoh’s bag, but if you were going for a redesign and not necessarily a minimization, then making it a full campfire scene would be super cute: Crossed cheetoh’s like logs, and Chester wearing his sunglasses at night sitting by the fire breathing more fire on it because he can lol. With a little garish colored camper in the background lol.
I love the oversimplified version dude, great job
I love these logos so much more than the originals!!
