Saw video ordered grommet. When i removed old grommet it appeared like new. Replaced anyway and no more leak. Great video. Worth trying for $10. Using hook tool made it easy to remove old grommet. Thanks
So glad that found this video. $10 dollars for the part, followed your instructions and the leak stopped. I had no idea how to fix the leak before I saw your video.
Thank you for your video! Grommet is quite a bit cheaper now but thank goodness there are kind people who post this DIY videos. This process fixed the leak!!!
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!. My whirlpool was leaking. I had no idea had to fix. I researched and found this video. It was so easy and solved my link. Thanks again for saving me from having to buy a new dishwasher. keep up the good work.
My Whirlpool dw was leaking out the door, but not consistently-only during certain cycles. The repairman replaced the door seal, and it still leaked. Finally, he had to put a special clear door on it to see that the bottom spray arm was getting caught on the bottom rack and squirting high pressured water up along the door seals during a certain cycle. He replaced the bottom spray arm and it fixed the problem.
Thank you, I am having the same door leaking problem. I have replaced the gasket and the door seal on Whirlpool WDT750SAHZ. I bought this in November 2018, and I am surprised it lasted for only 3 years. Do you know the model # of your Whirlpool please?
Thank you .. Got it back together following your instructions and using a socket to smash it down in there , I did coat the new rubber seal with a plumbers grease I found . Running the dishwasher for a 2nd time now no drips so far. The prev leak damaged my cabinetry around the dishwasher so I'm going to buy a dishwasher pan at Home Depot for $20 tomorrow as additional protection This allows water to drain out the front if water is leaking and has a lip on the 3 sides to protect leaking in the back and sides seems well worth it
Note: the grommet/seal not only has a little spring around the inside rubber center (to allow the grommet to fit the white plastic motor shaft more snuggly, but the outer diameter of the grommet is actually a coating for an internal metal "cup." That's why the outside diameter of the grommet feels harder than the soft rubber inner diameter. (completely coated by the grommet itself). So, when you are trying to remove the old degraded grommet and are scraping away at it to try to pry it out of there, you might actually scrape the soft rubber center of the grommet out, but leave the metal cup. The metal cup needs to be removed. The cup is part of the old grommet, coated with rubber. I had to use a tiny needle-nose pliers to pull it out, because the outer rubber coating kept it wedged in the hole where it's seated.
Thank you so much for posting this! I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the remaining pieces out. Every video made it look so easy. After about an hour and a half of googling, I randomly started reading comments under this video and low and behold! Winner winner chicken dinner! You saved me!🙌🙏
I am taking mine apart for the third time, it continues to leak. The second time I wrapped it 4 or 5 times with white plummers tape but no luck. This time I am using blue monster thread tape, it is thicker than the white stuff. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
The repair guy had to come back again because after he replaced what i had already done, it continued to leak. So he pulled the entire unit out, layed it on its side and took the lower assembly out and dismantled it. There he found a tiny piece of clear broken plastic, about 1/2" by 1/4" that was lodged in the assembly. He gave me the piece and said he thought that was the issue. He was correct, it has not leaked since. Good luck with yours, i hope you can get it resolved. @@darryl2366
So I replaced the seal and the leaking slowed, but still leaking. I can see the leak comes from 2 seperate points under the machine, both from the divertor motor. What should I do? Also, looks like a small coil ring came out when I took the old seal out?
Hi Franklin, Sounds like you did everything right. That ring is just a spring that was part of the old seal. I think if you’re willing to repeat the process a second time you’ll be able to get that leak to stop. Some people have been adding a little bit of silicone grease to the inside of that seal and they said that does help to reduce any small drips.
OR should i order a new seal that is slightly bigger so it is more snug? Lastly, would the sump need replacement? Id rather not disconnect everything for that repair. Happy to donate to your paypal if we can get this resolved!
Before I order this gasket, I I’m under this machine listening to a loud clicking noise while that thing is leaking. I’m wondering if that’s the diverter motor?
I just looked it up and I don’t know if that rubber seal is available by itself. The motor is $110. Washer is 7 yrs old. Not sure if I want to spend 110 on a 7 yr old machine or put towards a new machine anyway! 🤦🏼♂️
well got mine tore apart and i was shocked. NO GROMMET SEAL inside. WHAT? is that normal? there is one underneath but not on the inside. its been fine for years...and just started leaking. is this normal? not having one inside?
Hi, I have the same problem, but I can not figure out the part number by buy for that seal. Can some body help me? Model number for my Whirlpool dishwasher is WDT790SAYM1
Mine starts leaking 10 months after I bought it. Customer service was not helpful. A guy they sent out came 3 times, "finally fixed it" and a month later we got flooded again. I gave up and bought an LG. I'll never buy a Whirlpool again!!!

Recommendation: if you make this repair, take the racks out.
I like your little light--that's a handy form factor for a repair like this.
Good idea😊👍
Nice watch.

I bet you’re right.
Maybe the motor can’t turn.
So in your opinion, should I replace that or start cheap and go with the seal first?

So I changed the grommet and it’s still leaking from the bottom of the diverter motor 😢 any suggestions?
Thanks Sean,
Might be good to do the new seal one more time👍
Thank you very much.

Ever have a seal that just. Won't. Come. Out?
Yep,
They are super stubborn.
It’s so important to have a hook tool to be able to get underneath the seal in order to lift it out.
Thank you.
You're welcome!😊
Would a corkscrew work for the hook tool?
I don’t think so. I think it’s too thick
If replacing with a new one, who cares how you get the old one out. By hook or by crook we can remove the old seal.
so what do you do if it's still leaking?
Sometimes you need to replace the actuator motor also. Are you pretty sure that the leak is from that area?
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Yes,from the white round piece where you've circled and pointed to in your picture.
The leaked slow down significantly but it did not stop.Does the rubber seal need any kind of breaking in?
