I agree, TH-cam reward you for keeping people watching your videos longer so the easiest thing to do is edit intro and people will have to watch it if they want to see what you have, it drives me nuts when I’m trying to find something. But I understand the idea, personally, I prefer giving a good customer experience 😀
Feels like a design 'feature'. The washer washes fine but leaks. The leak is underneth the washer, looked to be coming from the diverter and is a mediium amount of water, enough to mess with everything surrounding the washer but not enough to make it obvious so you can fix it before it messes up your floor and cabinets. It looks like I fixed it with the Grommet from Amazon. They now sell two in a package. I had to remove the diverter like you did to remove the old grommet, then for me I had to reinstall the diverter before I put the new grommet in so that things would align without issue. I put plenty of silicone grease on the grommet. Thinking the grease may be really helping with stopping the leak. The older grommet definitely had a bigger hole in the center with 11 years of wear. The plastic disc with the hole in it aligns with the shaft part down. Thinking the grease may be important. I feel like you need to be gentle with the aged plastic. Thank you so much for posting, thinking I used both yours and some repair clinic videos to get comfy with the fix. At one time I almost just replaced the divertor, but clearly the water was just flowing through it from the sump pump, and it's leaky grommet. Whirlpool doesn't just sell the grommet they want you to buy the whole sump pump. In all this saved me a new washer or an expensive sump pump and maybe a divertor for 10$,... but the kitchen repair is extra. Thanks again.
I replaced the seal and it still leaked. I ordered seals from different sellers on Amazon and they were essentially the same. I also bought some silicone plumber's grease. Replaced the seal and filled the cavity with a big blob of grease. That stopped the leak for now.
Well that really sucks, something wasn’t fitting correctly! Did you make sure that there wasn’t anything wrong with the thing that goes through the seal?
The grommet in your link doesn't have the niche in it. The EOM one does. It did stop my leak but I can hear the motor doing extra b/c the niche is not there.
Whirlpool quit selling the seal for a reason. The shaft itself gets worn. Yes, you can replace the seal off of Amazon. It will work for awhile but surprise it will leak when you least expect it! You have to replace the sump assembly. A new Whirlpool diverter motor does not come with the seal. For peace of mind replace the sump. Also Amazon sells a mat that fits under any dishwasher. This mat is open on the front so that when you have a leak it goes out to the tile and definitely (I know from experience) does not damage your cabinets.
Get your tin foil hats on. The grommet seal is the most common leak problem with the dishwashers that are made with the same diverter valve. Just because it says Whirlpool, Kitchen aid, etc. It is the same dish washer design with the same basic parts. What fails is the grommet seal because people do not rinse off their dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. The small particles that are abrasive wear out the grommet. Okay, you know you are guilty but still want your leak fixed. Now you order the grommet seal, install it, and if you are lucky, it fixed the problem. Now you replaced the seal and it is still leaking. DYI peeps are not the the most competent people in repairs, but lets say they did it right. Do you have the tin foil hat on? I feel the manufacturers that make these dishwashers also sell the replacement grommet/seals. They have China producing the seals, which has a terrible history of not being able to manufacture anything to exact tolerances. If your repair failed, you will just buy another one of their poorly made dishwashers. For them it is a win-win. Sell a part and sell a dishwasher.
I only expect bad design from Whirlpool. This needs a double triple lips if they really want a radial seal. This needs axial seal with couple of screws. Cost cutting at its paramount. Water leaks in poorly ventilated homes is asking for health issues and wooden flooring issues..... never buying Whirlpool product ever again.
@RealityUniverse I eventually found out my Whirlpool dishwasher 's recirc motor's bushing had worn that made rotor crack the housing causing leakage. Don't know what else is going to fail on this washer, risking it by ordering new motor. Indeed a poor design....
Thank you for a video without a long introduction. Very to the point.

Interesting, mine works fine. Didn’t hear any extra noises can barely hear the thing when it runs.
I replaced the diverter motor and put silicon on the grommet. Works perfect now. @@RealityUniverse
Thanks for the information.
Any time!
Which side of the gasket goes up??
It looks like I put the groove side up. That was how it was originally when I removed it.

Thanks for the info! Il keep an eye on it.
I replaced my gasket seal and it’s still leaking. Replaced the entire pump next….still leaking. Consider yourself lucky!
That sucks! I ran mine with a flashlight on, and watched where it was dripping from with my head on the ground.
Sameeeeee. Not sure what to do now. Bout to say F it and use some flex seal.
