The part when Pen read his journals, the spiciness. I think people dont realise that sex for him was a mask to fit in. He wrote "i dont understand how with such great intimacy, someone can feel so empty". Which means when he does have sex, he never really felt anything and was doing it for the image. Thats why the kiss with Pen shook him because he felt something, he felt those spark of emotions that grabbed his heart. And they are both romantic, Colin wanted love and dreams in S1 and 2, and Pen mother told her that love isnt like the novels she reads. They are both dreamers, they both believe in love but they went into S3 being practical that it wasnt a possibility until each other. ❤
Ah, please spare me the whole "It didn't mean anything, it only means something when it's with her". No 👎😔 He did it, he's now a rake, he walked back on it but does that really matter? There was uniqueness to his character in this regard, he wanted to be some chilvalrous "knight like" figure because in his own delulu and naive head, that makes him a "main character" in a family that deems him a spare to the spare. That was fantastic as it felt real, and very consistent in the past two seasons. The prodigal son style return after he found his travels to be lonely, albeit liberating was also really great stuff. And then the show runners or writers shoehorned this bizarre raking thing all of a sudden either to please Quinn's book fans or because we are so doomed to having this couple dynamic for every season. Because let's face it, this is also going to be Sophie's storyline (Where I would argue it would be very meaningful, since it has a lot to do with her life's story). Frannie is going to be the exception to this rule, and hells yeah I am waiting for that. And yes, Kate doesn't count as another example of this trope, but look at who Anthony went for first... The sweet and innocent Edwina and not the headstrong and difficult to tame Kate.

Penelope was already gorgeous so I am glad they didn't make this some overblown glow up, just took some softening hair and palette changes and she caught eyes of the entire room and immediately suitors went over. I want more of that because her personality is already locked and loaded, she just needs the confidence.

I’ve seen Colin’s shift in personality explained really well. After Marina, he was humiliated. Then in S2, everyone was making fun of him for how dorky he was about his travels, and when he saw Marina, she basically told him to grow up. Then, at the very end of the season, he reveals the Featherington plot, helps the Mondrich bar, and is hanging out with some of the other men of the ton. So, he feels like a hero, he’s on top of things. That validation is so thrilling that when Fife teases him about Pen, he acts like an asshole like them. Then when he’s away traveling, he gets really good at being charismatic and rakish.
Shit, this is the first time an explanation about colin's change made sense for me. Wish it would be more clear in the series, we need Colin realizing this toxic change and actually apologise for it. I'll take your pov from now on, thanks!

Something I noticed upon rewatch: Colin’s VOICE is different when he’s talking to the eligible girls/other lords in public vs Pen in private, further heightening the fact that this is all an act, and one that he doesn’t even really fully believe in himself.
I think so far,this season is for us,old school period drama girlies because I`m OBSESSED. The way they shook hands with NO gloves,the two hands holding one,Colin stopping himself as he compliments her to come up with My very good friend,the looks,him gulping down that drink. Actually having Colin put up this rake identity which is not true to who he is at all,is such a nice twist to the tried Bridgerton formula. Luke did an amazing job. You can even see the look of insecurity he gives before continuing to use practiced lines on the girls of the Ton. It`s like he`s even unsure if this is working. So many people complained about how wooden his performance is,but I don`t think that`s true at all. It`s subdued,subtle,the looks and his body language. The intonation.
What tired Bridgerton formula was retired? No, they did the same thing all over again, experienced man who can have sex with whomever all the time and does so changes his mind because virgin woman is just so darn cute. This was an actual bad writing decision, we already knew who Colin was, he's not Anthony or Benedict. He's more of a romantic than a "practical" or a "hedonist"... He's purposeless but we can see that he finds purpose in "rescuing" people. Literally what he thinks he's doing with Pen at the beginning. They had the plot, they should have just trusted it was good enough.

He`s a people pleaser,he seeks attention. Donning on a mask of a rake to overcompensate for his insecurities is an interesting concept,and makes him a more complex leading man. He doesn`t fit the same mold the show set out. He`s spilling out. A jilted hopeless romantic,instead of an explosive,trauma riddled leading man. As a writer,it is refreshing to me.

Like Pen is a member of nobility and her virtue is tied to that, we already had scenes before with Daphne showing how her brother dulled somebody just because she made out with Simon. As well as thay same season showed us what happens to ladies who are discovered to be pregnant. If it's risky to be even seen kissing someone, why risk sleeping with someone and be infamous and abandoned by your family to the dust?
I completely agree about his performance not being wooden. There are SO many subtleties that are missed because of the speed of the show. I went back and watched all of his scenes slowed down at 0.75x. You see so much more of the thought process behind the actions.
I don’t get the comments about him and Nicohola not having chemistry when it was off the charts since season 1. You can believe their friendship and exploring this new side of themselves. I also feel that Luke did an incredible job displaying his self reflection from the book that took pages with only his eyes and facial expressions. Just chef’s kiss. He also does well showing these different aspects of his personality.
Colin's behavior here feels so off because it's supposed to, he's trying to fit in with the "guys", he thinks that's what he needs to do, to be like his brothers and the other lords. His words last season were pretty shitty (also trying to fit in), but then again, taking the sister of the woman you love to the altar and almost marrying her is pretty shitty too. The thing is, everyone makes mistakes, and I think it's important to give these characters grace, because at the end of the day, what matters is that they learn from them and do better going forward. I love Polin's love story because, even with all the mistakes they both make, we know they care deeply about each other, and have done so since they became friends. Even if Colin is very slow on the uptake (like, really goddamn slow), when he finally catches up, it's so beautiful.
I disagree when you say the John is not Francesca’s love story. Francesca gets two loves and her story shows that you can find love even after you lose one. I am so charmed by Francesca and Johns romance this season 🥰

What I like about Kate and Anthony in this episode 😊 is that it seems like for both their characters they were the missing element that made each person feel safe enough to enter their "soft girl" era as a couple. LMAO 🤣🤣

The rake stuff is tired. On first watch I was sooo annoyed but after going through all the episodes + doing a rewatch I think the plot line made sense for Colin. It also makes much more sense for why those scenes were soooo hard to watch. He was forcing that image onto himself, and he wasn’t very good at it since it’s not his nature. But I honestly wish they had only shown a few rake Colin scenes and then implied the rest…especially for some moments in episode 2. I don’t think we needed to be shown *all* of that

I get him charming and flirting with the women in the ton. That was mentioned in previous seasons and part of how Penelope saw him in the book. And do agree he is creating a persona. However, the threesome scenes were completely unnecessary and could have been used for more Polin and family development.

We could have very well just had a clip of him leaving the room, and we see a glimpse of the women on the bed or something. Audiences can put two and two together. Dedicating two entire scenes to the brothel just took away valuable time, in my opinion
I remember season 1 too well. I remember Eloise as fond of Lady Whistledown as humanly possible, enjoying her papers and complementing her style. I remember Cressida threatening Daphne with ruin, and by extension the whole Bridgerton family, including Eloise. I remember Eloise saying how great it is that there is a woman out there, outsmarting everyone and getting rich every day. And then...it's like she forgot who she was. From saving her idol to trying to locate and reveal (aka destroy) her by any means possible; from "oh she knows everything about everyone" to "howtf did she know about me, smth's not right, you b*tch"; from having a true friend to befriending an "honest" ENTITLED BULLY who almost ruined her family. She's not Eloise I knew. Penelope screwed up, sure, but she could do worse, not better. Everyone forgot about Eloise and moved on within days. Next season it's like nothing ever happened.

I was the same way when Kanthony appeared on the screen so I am glad I watched it alone because I did the same squee and lots of rewinding back to rewatch. They own the hand game! Lost myself to some serious serotonin boosts every time they were on screen! I hope we get more of them in part 2 where they are not ONLY doing sexy time stuff since we already know they bring the heat so easily.

I actually agree 100% with you. He certainly doesn't "owe" her - and no one "owes anyone" reciprocity of feelings. I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a "friend zone". But him as a respected member of the ton, a desirable Bridgerton, saying what he said (and the way he said it) so openly, obviously influences the opinion of the other members of the ton on her and clearly hurts her prospects in the marriage mart. What pissed me off was that it was so unnecessary! He was super nice to her in one scene and in the next, he was humiliating her to appear cool to his incel mates. I tend to have a lot of sympathy for Penelope because for some reason I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND HER!!! She has absolutely no one in her corner. No one appreciates her- her intelligence, her wit, her beauty. She is utterly alone. Stuck with a narcissistic and neglectful mother and stupid vapid and cruel sisters. Her father was also shit and didn't give a f*ck about his family. Everybody who knows her either kind of despises her or feels sorry for her, (I'll NEVER know why)- EXCEPT the Bridgerton. Of course, she is going to love and idolize them, They are the only ones who show her a taste of human kindness towards her, so of course, she's going to love them. Even though I feel like the friendship she has with Eloise was not always a super great one for her. I got the feeling that Eloise sometimes treated her like her little sidekick. I kinda like that they are apart and finding themselves outside that friendship dynamic so they come together more healthily. I feel like I understand why Penelope would end up doing Whitledown. She has met with so much gratuitous scrutiny since forever; I mean, how can someone cope with this? I don't condone everything she does as Whistledown, but I can understand, and I feel so f*cking sorry for her. She comes across to me as someone utterly alone and lost and the gossip sheet gives her solace and purpose in this empty and lonely environment where no one can appreciate her as a person.
My Bridgerton experience is only complete with your thoughts and reactions. I'm so happy you've been so fast with this video. I love the new season, Penelope and Colin are so likeable and beautiful.
Some spoilers for book: I feel Colin and Penelope both had rose tinted glasses with each other. Colin had the platonic version. He always saw her as this sweet, naive, loyal person. And when he finds out she was LW, it goes out the window. As soon as Colin seen her confidence and just being herself throughout the seasons, you see these glimpses where it is half denial and half gradually falling for her. With Penelope, it was a romantic sense which is why his words can hurt more and am glad her idealized version of him went down. I love when they see each other’s flaws because you can see as friends and partners, they do love each other as full fledged people. While I feel Colin sometimes takes her for granted, which he admits, you see how much he values her with the amount of times he defends her this season, how much he steps in to protect her and her family. When he says something wrong and is called out on it, he constantly tries to amend it. Out of all the characters, he feels the most like Darcy through his words and actions. I am worried about the reveal because LW wasn’t as bad in the books. In the show, while she writes the truth, she is brutal. She had reasons for reporting about Marina and Eloise, but it is still brutal. I feel that with all the seeds of Penelope’s guilt and the comments she makes about LW, it can ease Colin into her reasons/him seeing that she is not a bad person, but someone who made mistakes. Out of all the characters.

Francesca is my new favourite! I love that she is the shy introvert of the family. Like switch out her music for books and she'd be me. Also she feels very demisexual-coded to me like she needs a strong established relationship first before the passion comes in which would also make sense for her own story since she then has known Michael for a while.
I saw a theory that Colin is rakish this year because when Pen didn’t write him back and he became insecure in his personality, so now he’s trying to overcompensate in the new season

THANK YOU. Kathony is my favorite couple and while I don't hate Polin, it amazes me that some Polin stans seem to believe that Bridgerton is just Gossip Girl but regency era. To me, Bridgerton is about every Bridgerton sibling and their love story. Even in the books, after Penelope is revealed as Lady Whistledown you don't really feel something missing in the books that come after that one. Whistledown is only in 4/9 books! as I read them, I didn't feel like it was a main plot, it was only relevant in Polin's story for obvious reasons but in the other books where she makes an appearance I didn't really care. Like yeah, it's cute and fun but it's not the plot of the entire show what are you on??
Honestly, I kinda resent the idea that Francesca can only have one "true" love. I want to see her find genuine happiness with both of her love interests. I don't think her falling love again after her first marriage makes her love for John retroactively lesser; niether does her second love mean less just because it was second.
i got to go to the early premiere! the energy was the best, we were all screaming and laughing but doing the best to be respectful so everyone can hear the dialogue haha and we saw the actresses who play eloise, cressida and francesca!
LOVED THE VIDEO! I also think that they want John to be a good love interest, but probably don’t want his relationship with Francesca to seem 10/10 since otherwise people won’t root for Francesca and Michael.
It's a shame that Netflix chose to split this season into 2, of all the seasons. Season 2 could have withstood that approach better since it was quite a fast-paced, spicy tone that suited a cliffhanger. Season 3 seems to be going for more subtle with the Polin storyline and splitting the season in 2 cut-offs off the flow. I expect the criticisms of Part 1 will be resolved with a strong Part 2 but Netflix could have avoided this entirely by not splitting the season.
I noticed episode 4 from all the seasons make good cliffhangers. However, they should’ve given us all 8 for season 3 because I feel like there’s something missing. Seasons 1 and 2 probably could have been split in two parts because we had a good development and build up. Anyway, I assume the same that they will make up for it in part 2.
I really hope we get some good colin and anthony scenes together in part 2. i find their relationship so interesting in that anthony occupies this middle space of being his big brother, but also acting like his dad at times from the age difference, and from colin still being young when their dad died. i think colin really wants acknowledgement from anthony that he views him as an equal.

Kanthony this season has me wrapped around their finger. I can't get enough of those two. It makes so much sense why they're all over each other too. Like the amount of repressed sexual tension they walked around with for all of season 2 was insane. My good sir Anthony was absolutely feral about that woman and now we're seeing that unleashed lmao. Let me be clear, Nicola Coughlin is 75% of the reason Polin are my favorite. --- Pen making Colin thirsty is my favorite thing --- I do like how they're playing the Peneloise conflict, like we can still see that the love is still there, even though the rift is so wide --- I want more Pen and Fran bonding so bad --- I was so shocked that Debling came in so early. --- You know you lip syncing the "You find my smile pleasing" scene in S2? That's me with "Goodnight Mister Bridgerton" every fucking time lmao. Oh also, I recently did a reread of Romancing Mister Bridgerton and there's a part where Colin's like, "You find my smile beguiling?" and I told him, that's Anthony's line. I thought you'd appreciate that lol --- I hope we see more of Kanthony in part two, I know Jonny talked in an interview about how he was filming Wicked during the balloon scene, and I really hope he was more available during blocks 3+4, ig we'll have to see. If not, hopefully, we'll get more in future seasons. I do agree though, I love that they extend their honeymoon. Both Jonny and Simone talk a lot about wanting to support the rest of the Bridgerton siblings, which I love sm. --- I love Colin being in love with Pen before he's in love with Pen. He's like these are all the reasons I love being your friend...is that all Colin? Hmm? I'm so glad he got you with that scene, bc I thought that scene was perfect. He doesn't try to make excuses, he's just like, I was a dick, I haven't been as good a friend to you as you have been to me, I want to earn your trust back. I also love that he's like, "You'll quickly master these lessons, I'm certain." What I love about show Colin is that he knows she has it in her. Book Colin was always surprised by her wit and boldness whenever it came out, show Colin's like, "My Pen is amazing, I have the utmost faith in her being able to find a husband." --- So, what I would like for Whistledown at the end of the season, is for there to be some shift in direction, or maybe like, a new mission statement, if you will? I'd like for Pen to be like, you know what, instead of focusing so much on gossip, I'm gonna start shining a light on the people in the ton who are overlooked and under-appreciated, who deserve happiness too. But I also still like the idea of Whistledown holding a mirror up to society, holding people like Berbrooke in season one accountable. I don't want Pen to give up Whistledown entirely, I want her to learn from the mistakes she's made with it, recognize the hurt she's caused, but I'd like to see her grow through Whistledown, as well as on her own, if that makes sense?
Anthony looks soo carefree!! We can see it in his interactions with his family♥ Ahh they are so happy and in love and I am soo soo happy for them!!♥🙌 Really enjoying the storyline for Fran and the dynamic between Colin and Pen so far!

The thing about Colin is Ig why I feel for him. Trying to be like his brother's is such a relatable feeling if you're in a position like him. As someone who's dealt with trying to be enough for my father, trying to live up to his standards. Jealousy is understandable. But Colin shouldn't have to feel like he has to be a mirror image of his brothers. As for Pen, I js love the way her beauty was presented. She didn't have to use a lot makeup or a overly styled dress to stand out like the rest. It was her moment and she slayed anyways that's all I gotta say before I keep going and won't stop lmfao
2 years in the making and it did not disappoint I am a polin girlie so this episode really gave what it needed to give lol I had been waiting for you reaction!! I binged all 4 of this season part 1 May 16th. The Cressida vs Pen rivalry was so hilarious. It felt like middleschool. Not even high school. The whole first half seemed rapidfire in progression but the intensity of the pacing felt contrived. The intensity felt forced. Like there is tension. But compared with last season it just felt so odd to have the progression of the Colin Arc resolve in this compressed timeline. Like feelings in part 1, plot and intrigue part 2.
I felt the same! It felt slow and rushed at the same time even though we had 2 seasons of character building prior to their relationship. Some people are blaming the side plots, bloated cast and 4 episode split but I needed more now versus waiting a month either way.
Just to get this off my chest lol if someone told me that the friends to lovers trope of this season pertains to Penelope and ELOISE I would've bought it lol Colin is not doing it for me but I'm open to having my opinion changed in Part 2. So far Part 1 highlights for me are Kanthony (they both look so much younger this season, really selling that newlyweds glow), Frannie, and every time Penelope is pissed at / sassy towards Colin lol
The “rakening” of Colin I think it’s to emphasize that he is desperately trying to be a cultivated version of himself. It’s not him… it’s painful to watch and later we see it’s painful for him to keep up. He is leaning into the image BECAUSE it’s not him it’s fake confidence… give them what they want and I’ll finally fit in.
What do I think about this season? Well, I already watched the four episodes twice and I will probably watch them again at least once more before part 2 comes out. I am completely in love with this season. Which I knew I would because Romancing Mister Bridgerton is my favorite book of the series. I also love that we have so much Francesca (OMG! wait until John comes into the story. Loved it!) and Benedict (I love that man to pieces!) Can't wait for part 2 ♥

I agree that Whistledown needs to go by the end of the season. Firstly because Pen’s apology to all the people she hurt as Whistledown (Eloise, Colin, Marina etc) will not ring true if she continues writing as that persona. Also it will be really weird for her as a Bridgerton family member writing about her sisters-in-law/ brothers-in-law especially if (I’m assuming) the whole family learns the truth about her

I thoroughly enjoyed the first four episodes!!! The growth of Colln and Penelope thus far is very outstanding. However, they are not my favorite couple in the show thus far and I think that is telling. Francesca and John are by far the most intriguing and enthralling couple in the show and they probably have the least screen time next to Kate and Anthony. But I won't make any conclusive statements until the end of the season
I'm not usually a friends to lovers girlie, I find it hard to get into that kind of trope. But after watching Part 1 of season 3 I am so in to it!! Polin is so so so so adorable!! Kanthony are my fricking babies, my life line, my loves, my everythings!!! Bridgerton is just life, it seriously is like home, the whole world, it's just beautiful.
Lol your reactions to seeing Kanthony are hilarious. I personally don't get the hype myself over them, they were great, but not THAT squeal worthy in MY opinion. But I do live for the reactions to them showing up lol. I'm just waiting for both Benedict and Francesca's seasons. His will make fans of a certain 90s movie scream with joy and hers...I just love her. Very 'smol baby, mus protec'. Edit to add, and spoilers for future seasons I think Francesca will be very much in love with John. I always saw them the same way you see Anthony and Kate. So in love, so wrapped up in each other, Michael is practically in pain watching them together because he knows he can't have her and it's selfish and wrong of him to want her. The first part of her story is the total devastation of losing her husband and then their child. That level of devastation would only happen if she loved him very deeply. I think of her story as the 'finding love a second time' kind. Few people get that second love and she will. And the sweet thing deserves it. I think it is possible though, that they won't have as much passion in the bedroom. Which some couples deeply in love don't have. And what we've seen so far of her and John seems to be a like-minded pairing rather than a, err, genital pairing lol?

The part when Pen read his journals, the spiciness. I think people dont realise that sex for him was a mask to fit in. He wrote "i dont understand how with such great intimacy, someone can feel so empty". Which means when he does have sex, he never really felt anything and was doing it for the image. Thats why the kiss with Pen shook him because he felt something, he felt those spark of emotions that grabbed his heart. And they are both romantic, Colin wanted love and dreams in S1 and 2, and Pen mother told her that love isnt like the novels she reads. They are both dreamers, they both believe in love but they went into S3 being practical that it wasnt a possibility until each other. ❤

He did it, he's now a rake, he walked back on it but does that really matter?
There was uniqueness to his character in this regard, he wanted to be some chilvalrous "knight like" figure because in his own delulu and naive head, that makes him a "main character" in a family that deems him a spare to the spare.
That was fantastic as it felt real, and very consistent in the past two seasons. The prodigal son style return after he found his travels to be lonely, albeit liberating was also really great stuff.
And then the show runners or writers shoehorned this bizarre raking thing all of a sudden either to please Quinn's book fans or because we are so doomed to having this couple dynamic for every season.
Because let's face it, this is also going to be Sophie's storyline (Where I would argue it would be very meaningful, since it has a lot to do with her life's story).
Frannie is going to be the exception to this rule, and hells yeah I am waiting for that.
And yes, Kate doesn't count as another example of this trope, but look at who Anthony went for first... The sweet and innocent Edwina and not the headstrong and difficult to tame Kate.

Penelope was already gorgeous so I am glad they didn't make this some overblown glow up, just took some softening hair and palette changes and she caught eyes of the entire room and immediately suitors went over. I’ve seen Colin’s shift in personality explained really well. After Marina, he was humiliated. Then in S2, everyone was making fun of him for how dorky he was about his travels, and when he saw Marina, she basically told him to grow up. Then, at the very end of the season, he reveals the Featherington plot, helps the Mondrich bar, and is hanging out with some of the other men of the ton. So, he feels like a hero, he’s on top of things. That validation is so thrilling that when Fife teases him about Pen, he acts like an asshole like them. Then when he’s away traveling, he gets really good at being charismatic and rakish.
Shit, this is the first time an explanation about colin's change made sense for me. Wish it would be more clear in the series, we need Colin realizing this toxic change and actually apologise for it.

Something I noticed upon rewatch: Colin’s VOICE is different when he’s talking to the eligible girls/other lords in public vs Pen in private, further heightening the fact that this is all an act, and one that he doesn’t even really fully believe in himself.
Penelope also employs different voices depending on whom she's speaking to as well during the last 2 seasons.
The way I SCREECHED when Cressida ripped that gorgeous emerald gown - it’s one of the classic soapy moves, but I was stricken lmao

I think so far,this season is for us,old school period drama girlies because I`m OBSESSED. The way they shook hands with NO gloves,the two hands holding one,Colin stopping himself as he compliments her to come up with My very good friend,the looks,him gulping down that drink. Actually having Colin put up this rake identity which is not true to who he is at all,is such a nice twist to the tried Bridgerton formula. Luke did an amazing job. You can even see the look of insecurity he gives before continuing to use practiced lines on the girls of the Ton. It`s like he`s even unsure if this is working.
So many people complained about how wooden his performance is,but I don`t think that`s true at all. It`s subdued,subtle,the looks and his body language. The intonation.

Like Pen is a member of nobility and her virtue is tied to that, we already had scenes before with Daphne showing how her brother dulled somebody just because she made out with Simon. As well as thay same season showed us what happens to ladies who are discovered to be pregnant. If it's risky to be even seen kissing someone, why risk sleeping with someone and be infamous and abandoned by your family to the dust?
I completely agree about his performance not being wooden. There are SO many subtleties that are missed because of the speed of the show. I went back and watched all of his scenes slowed down at 0.75x. You see so much more of the thought process behind the actions.
I don’t get the comments about him and Nicohola not having chemistry when it was off the charts since season 1. You can believe their friendship and exploring this new side of themselves.
I also feel that Luke did an incredible job displaying his self reflection from the book that took pages with only his eyes and facial expressions. Just chef’s kiss.
He also does well showing these different aspects of his personality.
Colin's behavior here feels so off because it's supposed to, he's trying to fit in with the "guys", he thinks that's what he needs to do, to be like his brothers and the other lords. His words last season were pretty shitty (also trying to fit in), but then again, taking the sister of the woman you love to the altar and almost marrying her is pretty shitty too. The thing is, everyone makes mistakes, and I think it's important to give these characters grace, because at the end of the day, what matters is that they learn from them and do better going forward. I love Polin's love story because, even with all the mistakes they both make, we know they care deeply about each other, and have done so since they became friends. Even if Colin is very slow on the uptake (like, really goddamn slow), when he finally catches up, it's so beautiful.

The rake stuff is tired. On first watch I was sooo annoyed but after going through all the episodes + doing a rewatch I think the plot line made sense for Colin. It also makes much more sense for why those scenes were soooo hard to watch. He was forcing that image onto himself, and he wasn’t very good at it since it’s not his nature. But I honestly wish they had only shown a few rake Colin scenes and then implied the rest…especially for some moments in episode 2. I don’t think we needed to be shown *all* of that

I get him charming and flirting with the women in the ton. That was mentioned in previous seasons and part of how Penelope saw him in the book. And do agree he is creating a persona.
However, the threesome scenes were completely unnecessary and could have been used for more Polin and family development.

We could have very well just had a clip of him leaving the room, and we see a glimpse of the women on the bed or something. Audiences can put two and two together. I remember season 1 too well. I remember Eloise as fond of Lady Whistledown as humanly possible, enjoying her papers and complementing her style. I remember Cressida threatening Daphne with ruin, and by extension the whole Bridgerton family, including Eloise. I remember Eloise saying how great it is that there is a woman out there, outsmarting everyone and getting rich every day. And then...it's like she forgot who she was. From saving her idol to trying to locate and reveal (aka destroy) her by any means possible; from "oh she knows everything about everyone" to "howtf did she know about me, smth's not right, you b*tch"; from having a true friend to befriending an "honest" ENTITLED BULLY who almost ruined her family. She's not Eloise I knew.
Penelope screwed up, sure, but she could do worse, not better. Everyone forgot about Eloise and moved on within days. Next season it's like nothing ever happened.

I actually agree 100% with you. He certainly doesn't "owe" her - and no one "owes anyone" reciprocity of feelings. I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a "friend zone". But him as a respected member of the ton, a desirable Bridgerton, saying what he said (and the way he said it) so openly, obviously influences the opinion of the other members of the ton on her and clearly hurts her prospects in the marriage mart. What pissed me off was that it was so unnecessary! He was super nice to her in one scene and in the next, he was humiliating her to appear cool to his incel mates. I tend to have a lot of sympathy for Penelope because for some reason I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND HER!!! She has absolutely no one in her corner. No one appreciates her- her intelligence, her wit, her beauty. She is utterly alone. Stuck with a narcissistic and neglectful mother and stupid vapid and cruel sisters. Her father was also shit and didn't give a f*ck about his family. Everybody who knows her either kind of despises her or feels sorry for her, (I'll NEVER know why)- EXCEPT the Bridgerton. Of course, she is going to love and idolize them, They are the only ones who show her a taste of human kindness towards her, so of course, she's going to love them. Even though I feel like the friendship she has with Eloise was not always a super great one for her. I got the feeling that Eloise sometimes treated her like her little sidekick. I kinda like that they are apart and finding themselves outside that friendship dynamic so they come together more healthily. I feel like I understand why Penelope would end up doing Whitledown. She has met with so much gratuitous scrutiny since forever; I mean, how can someone cope with this? I don't condone everything she does as Whistledown, but I can understand, and I feel so f*cking sorry for her. She comes across to me as someone utterly alone and lost and the gossip sheet gives her solace and purpose in this empty and lonely environment where no one can appreciate her as a person.

My Bridgerton experience is only complete with your thoughts and reactions. I'm so happy you've been so fast with this video. I love the new season, Penelope and Colin are so likeable and beautiful.
Some spoilers for book:
I feel Colin and Penelope both had rose tinted glasses with each other.
Colin had the platonic version. He always saw her as this sweet, naive, loyal person. And when he finds out she was LW, it goes out the window.
As soon as Colin seen her confidence and just being herself throughout the seasons, you see these glimpses where it is half denial and half gradually falling for her.
With Penelope, it was a romantic sense which is why his words can hurt more and am glad her idealized version of him went down.
I love when they see each other’s flaws because you can see as friends and partners, they do love each other as full fledged people.
While I feel Colin sometimes takes her for granted, which he admits, you see how much he values her with the amount of times he defends her this season, how much he steps in to protect her and her family. When he says something wrong and is called out on it, he constantly tries to amend it.
Out of all the characters, he feels the most like Darcy through his words and actions.
I am worried about the reveal because LW wasn’t as bad in the books. In the show, while she writes the truth, she is brutal.
She had reasons for reporting about Marina and Eloise, but it is still brutal.
I feel that with all the seeds of Penelope’s guilt and the comments she makes about LW, it can ease Colin into her reasons/him seeing that she is not a bad person, but someone who made mistakes.

I like this season a LOT! in fact this is the first season where I enjoy all the side plots as well, and don’t want to scroll to the main couple all the time
THANK YOU. Kathony is my favorite couple and while I don't hate Polin, it amazes me that some Polin stans seem to believe that Bridgerton is just Gossip Girl but regency era. To me, Bridgerton is about every Bridgerton sibling and their love story. Even in the books, after Penelope is revealed as Lady Whistledown you don't really feel something missing in the books that come after that one. Whistledown is only in 4/9 books! as I read them, I didn't feel like it was a main plot, it was only relevant in Polin's story for obvious reasons but in the other books where she makes an appearance I didn't really care. Like yeah, it's cute and fun but it's not the plot of the entire show what are you on??
Honestly, I kinda resent the idea that Francesca can only have one "true" love. I want to see her find genuine happiness with both of her love interests. I don't think her falling love again after her first marriage makes her love for John retroactively lesser; niether does her second love mean less just because it was second.
i got to go to the early premiere! the energy was the best, we were all screaming and laughing but doing the best to be respectful so everyone can hear the dialogue haha and we saw the actresses who play eloise, cressida and francesca!

LOVED THE VIDEO! I also think that they want John to be a good love interest, but probably don’t want his relationship with Francesca to seem 10/10 since otherwise people won’t root for Francesca and Michael.
It's a shame that Netflix chose to split this season into 2, of all the seasons. Season 2 could have withstood that approach better since it was quite a fast-paced, spicy tone that suited a cliffhanger. Season 3 seems to be going for more subtle with the Polin storyline and splitting the season in 2 cut-offs off the flow. I expect the criticisms of Part 1 will be resolved with a strong Part 2 but Netflix could have avoided this entirely by not splitting the season.
I noticed episode 4 from all the seasons make good cliffhangers. However, they should’ve given us all 8 for season 3 because I feel like there’s something missing. Seasons 1 and 2 probably could have been split in two parts because we had a good development and build up. Anyway, I assume the same that they will make up for it in part 2.
I really hope we get some good colin and anthony scenes together in part 2. i find their relationship so interesting in that anthony occupies this middle space of being his big brother, but also acting like his dad at times from the age difference, and from colin still being young when their dad died. i think colin really wants acknowledgement from anthony that he views him as an equal.

Kanthony this season has me wrapped around their finger. I can't get enough of those two. It makes so much sense why they're all over each other too. Like the amount of repressed sexual tension they walked around with for all of season 2 was insane. My good sir Anthony was absolutely feral about that woman and now we're seeing that unleashed lmao. Gosh they're so cute together.
literally this season is the one im the most invested in because they spend the first 4 episodes building up this romance and then when part two of the show comes out they're gonna tear everything apart and its gonna be GOOD ANGST, and im genuinely interested in knowing how they're going to come back from that as a couple. like if i was colin id be destroyed, idk how he'll forgive her
The conclusion I came to after watching this first part is :
Collin needs better male friends. He good boy but his friends are no good. He need good honest woman.

I totally feel you on watching with you parents and them not matching your excitement for the show bc I watch with my mom and she loves the show too, but I had to like rein in my reactions bc otherwise she'd be like dude, are you okay? Which is why I love watching your reactions, bc you get it and you know from the season 2 rewatch that this is my most anticipated season, so I'm excited to experience it with you! I literally just finished watching your uncut reaction on Patreon and then logged onto TH-cam, saw the notification and was like, omg perfect, I get to watch this again haha
Okay, I'm gonna do bullet points as I go:
--- Watching you lose your shit over Kanthony (esp that first scene) never gets old
--- Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of the "rake-ish" behavior from Colin, but I do like that they're making it clear that it's a performance from him. It does feel so out of character for him and the people who know him best are picking up on that. I'm with you on part of it being his reaction to what Marina said last season. I do also wonder if Anthony's words from season one are still ringing in Colin's head, the whole like, "You're too green" stuff and then Whistledown exposed his naivety to the whole ton by revealing Marina's pregnancy. As much as Colin says he doesn't care what other people think, I think that's bullshit lol and he's performing a version of himself that he thinks he should be, which is more like his older brothers.
--- Love Pen brushing Colin off. Let me be clear, Nicola Coughlin is 75% of the reason Polin are my favorite.
--- Pen making Colin thirsty is my favorite thing
--- I do like how they're playing the Peneloise conflict, like we can still see that the love is still there, even though the rift is so wide
--- I want more Pen and Fran bonding so bad
--- I was so shocked that Debling came in so early.
--- You know you lip syncing the "You find my smile pleasing" scene in S2? That's me with "Goodnight Mister Bridgerton" every fucking time lmao. Oh also, I recently did a reread of Romancing Mister Bridgerton and there's a part where Colin's like, "You find my smile beguiling?" and I told him, that's Anthony's line. I thought you'd appreciate that lol
--- I hope we see more of Kanthony in part two, I know Jonny talked in an interview about how he was filming Wicked during the balloon scene, and I really hope he was more available during blocks 3+4, ig we'll have to see. If not, hopefully, we'll get more in future seasons. I do agree though, I love that they extend their honeymoon. Both Jonny and Simone talk a lot about wanting to support the rest of the Bridgerton siblings, which I love sm.
--- I love Colin being in love with Pen before he's in love with Pen. He's like these are all the reasons I love being your friend...is that all Colin? Hmm? I'm so glad he got you with that scene, bc I thought that scene was perfect. He doesn't try to make excuses, he's just like, I was a dick, I haven't been as good a friend to you as you have been to me, I want to earn your trust back. I also love that he's like, "You'll quickly master these lessons, I'm certain." What I love about show Colin is that he knows she has it in her. Book Colin was always surprised by her wit and boldness whenever it came out, show Colin's like, "My Pen is amazing, I have the utmost faith in her being able to find a husband."
--- So, what I would like for Whistledown at the end of the season, is for there to be some shift in direction, or maybe like, a new mission statement, if you will? I'd like for Pen to be like, you know what, instead of focusing so much on gossip, I'm gonna start shining a light on the people in the ton who are overlooked and under-appreciated, who deserve happiness too. But I also still like the idea of Whistledown holding a mirror up to society, holding people like Berbrooke in season one accountable. I don't want Pen to give up Whistledown entirely, I want her to learn from the mistakes she's made with it, recognize the hurt she's caused, but I'd like to see her grow through Whistledown, as well as on her own, if that makes sense?
Anthony looks soo carefree!! We can see it in his interactions with his family♥ Ahh they are so happy and in love and I am soo soo happy for them!!♥🙌 Really enjoying the storyline for Fran and the dynamic between Colin and Pen so far!
I agree. I've been invested in the El-Pen relationship the most all season above any other storylines 😆 and I love Eloise's character development all and all every season.

The thing about Colin is Ig why I feel for him. Trying to be like his brother's is such a relatable feeling if you're in a position like him. As someone who's dealt with trying to be enough for my father, trying to live up to his standards. Jealousy is understandable. But Colin shouldn't have to feel like he has to be a mirror image of his brothers. As for Pen, I js love the way her beauty was presented. She didn't have to use a lot makeup or a overly styled dress to stand out like the rest. It was her moment and she slayed anyways that's all I gotta say before I keep going and won't stop lmfao

I binged all 4 of this season part 1 May 16th. The Cressida vs Pen rivalry was so hilarious. It felt like middleschool. Not even high school. The whole first half seemed rapidfire in progression but the intensity of the pacing felt contrived. The intensity felt forced. Like there is tension. But compared with last season it just felt so odd to have the progression of the Colin Arc resolve in this compressed timeline. Like feelings in part 1, plot and intrigue part 2.
I felt the same! It felt slow and rushed at the same time even though we had 2 seasons of character building prior to their relationship. Some people are blaming the side plots, bloated cast and 4 episode split but I needed more now versus waiting a month either way.
Just to get this off my chest lol if someone told me that the friends to lovers trope of this season pertains to Penelope and ELOISE I would've bought it lol Colin is not doing it for me but I'm open to having my opinion changed in Part 2. So far Part 1 highlights for me are Kanthony (they both look so much younger this season, really selling that newlyweds glow), Frannie, and every time Penelope is pissed at / sassy towards Colin lol
The “rakening” of Colin I think it’s to emphasize that he is desperately trying to be a cultivated version of himself. It’s not him… it’s painful to watch and later we see it’s painful for him to keep up. He is leaning into the image BECAUSE it’s not him it’s fake confidence… give them what they want and I’ll finally fit in.
What do I think about this season? Well, I already watched the four episodes twice and I will probably watch them again at least once more before part 2 comes out. I am completely in love with this season. Which I knew I would because Romancing Mister Bridgerton is my favorite book of the series. I also love that we have so much Francesca (OMG! wait until John comes into the story. Loved it!) and Benedict (I love that man to pieces!) Can't wait for part 2 ♥

I agree that Whistledown needs to go by the end of the season. Firstly because Pen’s apology to all the people she hurt as Whistledown (Eloise, Colin, Marina etc) will not ring true if she continues writing as that persona. Also it will be really weird for her as a Bridgerton family member writing about her sisters-in-law/ brothers-in-law especially if (I’m assuming) the whole family learns the truth about her

I thoroughly enjoyed the first four episodes!!! The growth of Colln and Penelope thus far is very outstanding. However, they are not my favorite couple in the show thus far and I think that is telling. Francesca and John are by far the most intriguing and enthralling couple in the show and they probably have the least screen time next to Kate and Anthony. But I won't make any conclusive statements until the end of the season

I think Francesca will be very much in love with John. I always saw them the same way you see Anthony and Kate. So in love, so wrapped up in each other, Michael is practically in pain watching them together because he knows he can't have her and it's selfish and wrong of him to want her. The first part of her story is the total devastation of losing her husband and then their child. That level of devastation would only happen if she loved him very deeply. I think of her story as the 'finding love a second time' kind. Few people get that second love and she will. And the sweet thing deserves it. I think it is possible though, that they won't have as much passion in the bedroom. Which some couples deeply in love don't have. And what we've seen so far of her and John seems to be a like-minded pairing rather than a, err, genital pairing lol?
