a hearty congrats to the newly engaged couple (and now comes the angst and drama lol) join my patreon and watch my full-length reaction to this episode here: rb.gy/9grgji
I Daria, I follow your channel since Season 2 because your reactions to Kanthony’s story is so ICONIC, just like them. Which scene change you more, the carriage scene or Anthony's 'you are the bane of my existence and object of all my desires'? I’m curious.
You know Colin really needs to hang out with Mr. Finch and Mr. Dankworth(Philippa and Prudence’s husbands)rather than those other two bozos. They can be weird and dumb but they mean well and are good people in the end. Plus, they both seem to be more supportive of Penelope than her own sisters.
I’m sure the brothers in law would genuinely love to hear about Colin’s travel stories and that they would all get along just talking about wacky things.
I LOVE that Colin is a sensitive boy who takes intimacy and love so seriously. I LOVE that he is different from his more cavalier brothers who make fun of the emotion and kind of look down on women for believing in love (until its their season). We need more male leads like Colin in romance novels tbh
AMEN! Now make them virgins too! I'm so tired of rake archetype overload. You can make a male virgin easily as hot by being ravenous and naturally assertive.👅
Respectfully disagree Benedict isn’t cavalier and certainly doesn’t make fun of love or intimacy. As a poet/artist he’s very much in touch with his emotions. Yes he hooks up with a new woman each season (not Sex workers I might add) but that’s because he has just yet to find his true love (his muse). The only brother who truely fits your description is of course Anthony. Mr capital’R’ rake. Now a reformed rake indeed.
@@justinelord95 You think so? I see Benedict as someone who looks down on and kind of pokes fun at he whole marriage mart. I get how it can be exhausting and stifling, but Benedict certainly has a overly judgmental view on it, almost making fun of the girls who are simply doing what they have be taught is the single most important thing in their lives (finding husbands). All while having an 'affair' with Lady Tilley, Benedict just believes his sexual endeavours are artistic and therefore worth something.
@@neonovember3072That's true that he finds Marriage mart boring. But he had always believed in love and definitely wants love which is why he hasn't married yet. Because he has not found his person, his muse.
The carriage scene was already sexy but the confession, the consent, the misunderstanding and him gently putting back her dress and finally the declaration made it 10× hotter ✨ (I am the type of person who usually skips s*x scenes lol)
I do as well but this one was done really well. This was funny, sweet, and hot without being overly showy. Sometimes less is more. This scene showed we can get an extremely hot, passionate scene without full body exposure.
When Violet says that Colin doesn't put himself first, she's talking about what she had just said, that he lives to PLEASE others. She says, "You're always aware of what others need, always trying to be helpful or offering a joke to lighten the mood." So, he puts other people's feelings and opinions first. That's different from Anthony, who lives to SERVE others. It used to be that he put his duty first, acting the way he thought was best for his family, without considering that maybe it wasn't what they wanted. Like with Daphne's suitors, or paying for Benedict's admission to art school. He got better, of course, just like Colin does.
I think Violet’s line to Colin about not putting himself first is spot on. If you are being who you think others want you to be, isn’t that a form of not putting yourself first? To me, being someone you’re not and not putting yourself first go hand in hand. Because if you’re doing things you think others want you to do, or you’re not being your true self, you are certainly not putting yourself first. You’re playing a part either way. Be who you want to be, do what you want to do.
I think that is exactly what she was referring to when she said that. If you are stifling who you truly are in favor of putting on a show for others than you are putting the needs of others before your need to be who you are and feel comfortable in your own skin. This can be suffocating and in the end is the reason a lot of people become depressed and even end up just not being able to take it. So I am glad she spoke to him in that way because the person you have to please first is yourself. This was not a contest between Anthony and Colin to see who put others before themselves more. I think to a degree all of the male bridgerton minus maybe Gregory because he was too young have this particular problem. And it is really part of that trauma of loosing their father so young. Anthony took on the responsibility of father but don’t you think that affected Benedict and Colin as well they would have both probably tried to lessen their brothers burden by not showing how hurt or how much they missed their dad and in doing that they would have gotten used to putting up a front of being okay or being who they thought their brother needed them to be. Colin probably was the most affected by this particular trait as he was the youngest who still was old enough to know what happened but young enough not to be able to process it in a healthy way. This season was him really trying to be what he thought Anthony needed him to be coming off of what Anthony told him in season one that he should have taken him to brothels more. Anthony even praises him when he comes back for raking around. Anthony believe this is normal behavior for young man of Colin’s age. I am not blaming Anthony he is a product of his loss and unfortunately, Colin as a sensitive and impressionable young man is a product of the same loss and of Anthony’s unfortunate lack of parenting knowledge. They were all handed a bad hand and are just grappling with the aftermath. thankfully they are meeting the women that they need to get past these traumas and help them all become better version of themselves. But I am glad that inlet is able to build them at the moments when the most need it and that she knows her children well enough that she can do so without forcing them into a corner.
Exactly. Colin tries so hard to be who society/people want him to be. But that means he isn't himself. He choose to please others by being what they want instead of being who he is. I am a big colin myself. If you constantly serve others there is no time to serve yourself. You sacrif*ce yourself as the side character in someone elses movie. Meanwhile you don't have a movie. And others take the side character for granted. Thats not fun. But colin has always been himself with pen. Pen loves him unconditionally. And in a way pen is truly herself with colin (LW popped out several times in the past, if anyone should have seen this coming its colin).
I respectfully disagree. I think pretending to be someone you are not is not a sacrifice you are doing for others solely for them. You do that cause you care about what they think about you. It's relevant to you, how others perceive you and want to be seen as a certain type of way. It's irrelevant to others weather they think you are "cool" or not.
@@dakota7314 and I also respectfully disagree because of how it came about it’s not that he feels he needs to please others because he wants to be praised it was his need to not be a burden to his very young brother Anthony taking on the father role that caused him to feel the need to put up a front and make his brother believe he was okay and that he didn’t have to worry about him not fitting into what society thinks a young gentleman of their status should be. When he was trying be himself Anthony reprimanded him for it and told him he should have taken him more to the brothels. Instead of his sensitive side being praised and rewarded it was shut down by his brother his father figure and stepped on by marina. Anthony being right about the marina situation also cemented that he should just listen to his brother and not to his feelings so he thought he should just stop being himself and act as Anthony said he should and not make anymore trouble for his brother or the family. He got burned for carrying his feelings on his sleeve and In turn brought scandal to his family. So he decided to just act like he was told to act so that that the family would not worry about him anymore. But he requires the emotional connection and he just can’t get that acting as a rake because that’s not part of that persona so once he realizes he has that connection he is craving with pen he’s just done and can’t go back to that persona because it feels like he is suffocating because it’s empty and devoid of feelings.
That's exactly it. He always had a little issues with how he is perceived and his hero complex and try too hard to be or become what others expect of him or what he perceives he should be in the eyes of others.
18:08 In the trailer they edited that candle flaming making it as that he comes to realisation of his feelings but here it's flickering off insinuating his time is running out before he will lose Penelope ✨
I think the lamp breaking maybe reminded him that they both may have felt a spark from holding hands & he thought he may have a chance winning her back from a wealthy landlord.
24:00 Someone compared pen touching colin's hair to her petting her golden retriever. And I can't unsee that. "Good doggy". And then pen's facial expression of her being pleased with herself about it.😂
@Seleneschild999 i know right. I am a doggy mam myself and it has the same energy as my lab when he really wants my attention. And he is so excited to see me. When I give in and pet him and he gets this "did I do good? Am I a good boy?" expression on his face. Colin has major "yeh I'm a good boy" energy.😂 He really does like to please people, one person in particular. Good boy colin. Ad him following her on (non verbal) command at the fair. He is leash trained. 😂 Something tells me she will be wearing the pants in that relationship.
I just had to ruin the moment for my friend regarding the hair grabbing. Book spoiler! ... ... ... ... ... ... Pen in the book touches Colin's hair and chuckles... because his hair reminds her of Eloise's. She thinks of El as she is having sex with Colin. Luckily does not tell Colin, lol. Once I saw that moment, I had to vent it out. We both had a good chuckle ourselves 😅
Total agree. And shows that she knows her stuff. Not that she wouldn’t have had an education, being a high-born daughter, but to casually reference it and have it be such a specific and appropriate reference.
@marabanara yesss, and it also showed why she treated Pen like that because she could see the feelings underlying the friendship of Collin and Pen. So her reaction to Pen could have been jealousy and not understanding why she is so valued by Eloise and Collin
13:40 What I really love about Daria that even though we who have watched this channel for long time know that Kanthony is her ride and die ship but it does not stop her from appreciating other bton couples be it Polin or frohn. Like she is only creator I know who caught early on the Colin's armour and his hero complex for Pen and other complexities . That's why I love her 💝🫶
The fangirling for when John came in, literally that was me. Once again your vibes are matching that of the entire fandom. I love that! Literally I haven’t seen anyone stop talking about the carriage scene! It truly has changed lives!
Colin always puts people first or should I say sensitive to shift. He asked about Daphe during his engagement embrassment, helped the boxer with his club, helped Daphne get to Simon during the duel. He's a helper
@@FullofLit from what i saw, ep 4 had the fandom in SHAMBLES 3 times: 1) the carriage scene itself 2) when they noticed the fingers 3) when someone was unhinged enough to ask the director on Twitter and he confirmed that it was Luke Newton's idea LOL
Yes me too I love kanthony so much and I think it’s great that every season has its own different story line and trope and POLIN is that couple in their own lane just like Kanthony is that couple in their own lane as well!!!!!
7:14 My dears, you have described THE ODYSSEY and Pen knows how that goes for her namesake, and she cant see it with Debling. It was RIGHT THERE, Bridgerton writer's room, I was BEGGING them to say "The Odyssey"
I think that writers were aware, given the fact that they have quoted Greek mythology beforehand. Pen is not gonna imply that he does not know shit, especially given Portia's advice. I think that it is another minor hint that Debling is not Pen's fit as he does not know the story. Cut to Colin in 107 😅
If Penelope had really wanted to give him encouragement she would have told him that in fact she was named for a character famous for her constancy to a husband on a long voyage. I think that she didn’t say it shows she was still uncertain if she wanted to marry him.
I'm not actually sure I'm willing to give the writer's room credit for knowing they described the Odyssey here. They're not subtle if they want the audience to have a classical story in their heads for comparison (e.g., Cressida saying "Eros and Psyche battling it out"), and contextually, it's a stretch at least to describe the Odyssey as a love story (it's generally more about Odesseyus fucking around and finding out after pissing off Poseidon, and the end is...more complex than simply two loves reuniting). They came THIS CLOSE to doing something interesting and complex with a literary allusion that could have played into the idea of duty and loyalty over passion and true love, but they didn't go there and let the allusion actually come right out into the world. Instead they went for some hypothetical romance that Debling would have to read to find out what happens. We could have had CONTRASTING literary allusions that hyped up the battling themes emerging in the season, but instead we get a weak, candy floss hypothetical romance. And I'm even saltier about it when you think how the GENDER SWAPPAGE affects it, because Pen over her might be named for Odysseus's wife, but when you're talking secrets and tricks, our girl is more Odysseus. Same with the Eros and Psyche; it's not Pen who is being kept in the dark. Like...PLEASE roll with this really fascinating inversion of power, gender, and patriarchal roles, ESPECIALLY since Colin is in his "discovering toxic masculinity" stage. Like...he can see it in other men, now have him recognize that in his own romance, he is Penelope and Psyche!!! Let the man find the STRENGHTHS in those characters and USE them. Like...let's DO this. ...I may have vaguely lost the plot here, because I was saying that I don't think the Bridgerton writer's room is that good. But God I wish they were, it could have been EPIC.
25:17 I think this might be one of my top three favourite Bridgerton moments for the fact that it just felt so genuine. Like her giggle, then his half-wheeze just makes it feel like it was unscripted and I love it
8:37 its the only time I think the visiting the pros scenes adds something to the storyline. It shows you colin desp*rate to get pen out of his head. But its not working, he can't be with another woman without it feeling wrong. He can't even look at another woman. It shows you colin's desp*ration, fighting his feels. And it shows you pen has her hooks into him deep, cause they aren't even together and he can't physically nor emotionally che*t on pen. One kiss and he is that far gone. Like he wrote in his journal. Colin is a demi-s*xual. He needs the emotional bond. He kissed a girl he is bonded to and nothing else compares to him.
i understand the reasoning behind the scene but i maintain that using women’s bodies and having them put on a show for a man is gross and frankly insulting (especially for a show that has up until this point refused to give us any truly meaningful queer representation within its main storylines)
@@FullofLitagreed. The same sentiment of not being into it could’ve been shown instead as him entering the brothel and then being reminded of Penelope (like playing flashbacks of Penelope in this season and previous seasons too) then having him leave the brothel. Just as effective without the ickiness of using women’s bodies for entertainment television 😊
@@FullofLit Hard disagree. There's something really gross about the idea that there's something wrong with seeing women's bodies for an audience that has had no issue with repeated male nudity. And the Henry Granville erasure makes me sad.
@FullofLit I agree about the first visites. I didn't need to see that. Him saying he is a rake would have been enough. Colin raking around gives me the ick either way. But I can semi justify it for the emotional journey thing with the last visite. But to be honest I feel the same way about Benedict raking around. There is no need to ad that woman. Eventhough I get it, she is basically acting like a man, she rakes around. She is doing what the men do in that era. And is placing Benedict in the female role in more ways then one. She doesn't want to be called upon, she is Benedict. Lets see if he likes being treated that way.
Haven’t seen anyone else do a bridgerton reaction who is such a hardcore Francesca fan but I’m just loving getting to see how she fits into the bridgerton family dynamic!
You made such a good point about the side plots in s3, and Francesca's *IS* the best one so far. I think Anthony's in s1 with Siena is my second favorite because of how it sets him up for s2. I myself am still not over that overdone Featherington sideplot from s2, especially considering how they could've given that time to Edwina & Mary respectively & we could've learned more about their lives in India (just an idea). But alas 🫠 Another great reaction btw! Can't wait for part 2! 🥰
Even though I am not a fan of Lady Featherington. She was right about the security thing. The period and circumstances really made love matches a rarity.
Ok, not to defend the brothel scene but to defend the brothel scene, it’s actually sort of pivotal, to me, in his development. It goes back to him trying to be someone he isn’t. Even in the moment, though, he’s so distracted by his feelings for Penelope, not only does he not participate but he doesn’t watch either. He actually turns away because his head has already been turned. It perfectly sets up the next scene with Colin where he’s speaking to the men and actually gives a voice to his feelings only to be mocked. He’s really battling this conflict within himself. To me, it’s showing more Demi!Colin! It really only works for him if there is an attachment now that he knows he has one. He’s so consumed by his feelings and attraction to Penelope that all the things that he should be enjoying (i.e. multiple women and boy talk) he no longer finds pleasure in them. It also feeds into his distraction in the carriage later that he’s so into her (literally and figuratively) that he doesn’t realize they’ve stopped. Colin is the one guy in this show that really doesn’t waste time once he realizes what his feelings actually are. Showing earlier in the season how he does partake and seems to be enjoying it but then later in so distracted by his feelings for Penelope that it no longer holds pleasure for him is part of his development. Do I think they needed to half dressed women to achieve this, not necessarily, but using what we saw earlier and drawing back to it shows the clear parallel.
YES YES YES! I know a lot of fans find the brothel scene, especially the second one distasteful but this is the show showing us where Colin's current mindset is. You're right about all of the above and I think if they hadn't had this scene, we'd have people complaining about how we didn't see enough of Colin being conflicted about his feelings and pining over Penelope. For storytelling purposes, this second brothel scene was absolutely necessary.
I couldn't agree more. This was when Colin came to the realization of what was important to him. I had no problem with the brothel scene or the nudity. It is a brothel afterall.
I had no problem with the brothel scene either. This is what happened in society at that time and it was accepted for men and it showed that Colin just couldn't go there and be comforted by these pleasures to forget who he really had feelings for. He even asked "his friends" if they didnt feel lonely? Apparently, he was realizing the difference between the two feelings of this and that. I also will say that the story telling could have been accomplished without the actors bearing it all, so I your feelings are valid.
People act like there has never been a man this down bad for a woman, thick or not just because it's not something we ever really see in entertainment but it for sure happens all the damn time!
@@FullofLitAgreed on the hair/fit being perfect for the vibe, but just fyi you touch your hair so much it’s distracting & almost constant readjustments… I know a lot of us have subconscious things like that we don’t register or notice in ourselves.😊
The carriage scene really makes the rest if the season worth it haha. I’ve been struggling with them scattering so many stories and characters (that I frankly don’t care about) but the carriage scene was chef’s kiss
I think that Colin put people first in a different way than Anthony. Anthony had to take responsibility which he didn't need but Colin felt the pressure to make others happy. Like for Marina, if she didn’t lie about the pregnancy thing, he would have taken care of her baby as his own. Then he likes to help people, care about their feelings. You can see that. Anthony will be rude and shit but Colin is definitely a people pleaser. Anthony wasn't
EXACTLY. How many shall he read? It is also great foreshadowing of the Cowper house. Eloise does not mention the books at all, is only horrified how it looks 😅
Giiiiirl at the speech from violet to colin i thought the same thing. I didn't find it suiting for him that line 'put others first' . I am so glad you caught that one toooo. Love your reactions, lots of love from Chile
I'm simply coming here to say...getting the PRIVILEGE of a full length reaction on Patreon is a swoon-worthy experience. literally that's all I wanted to say lol (I subbed yesterday and watched the whole thing while studying my excel workbooks for my college final tomorrow :))
I’m so glad you called out that line “not putting yourself first” because I reacted the same way right away. That’s Kantonys thing whole last season, that is not what this season is about. This season is about accepting and embracing who you truly are and finding the courage to fully be yourself regardless of other people’s opinions about who you should be and how you should behave. That goes for both Penelope and Colin. Your changes to that line makes it 100 % better and more accurate, I loved it!
Thats one of the problem with the writers as well… like aside from that they are also giving the “looking for purpose” of Colin to Benedict this season but even that is not explored. They just threw him to another sexscapade.
I think Violet was spot on. I was rewatching season 1 and 2 before this one and Colin/Marina story was Colin putting her first every step of the way. Even him saying he would still marry her if she told him the truth about the baby(ies). It is different than with Anthony because Anthony was all about doing things based on duty as a viscount and head of the family while Colin is doing it to please others because it makes him happy to make others happy. The motivation is completely different and the way they feel about it is different too.
I think Violet is saying what you're saying just in a different way. Like, he puts others expectations of him above being true to himself. He puts on this persona because it's what he's seen his older brothers doing and assumes that's what's expected of him, that's what people want him to be, and he's doing that instead of being himself, meaning putting others above himself
But did you see HOW he adjusted her dress at the end? Did you see how he didn't touch her gown with specific fingers that had been busy? So freakin' hot.
Colin's arc has been more interesting than I thought it would be. Out of all of the Bridgerton brothers, I never particularly cared for him one way or another since he never fully caught my attention like Anthony and Benedict had. But now that he's getting full focus, I think I appreciate what they've attempted to do with him. With Anthony and Benedict, when they were in their manwhore phase, it felt like it was legitimately something they just wanted to do. They were just some guys who liked sex and they couldn't get it without either marrying someone "proper" or buying it like basically every other man did. It was just what guys did as a general matter (within the scope of this show) so it wasn't such a big deal. But Collin wasn't like that when we met him. He was sweet, sensitive and a little dorky in a way that didn't really read as classically charming (in the way Benedict or Simon was). He believed in love like his parents and he jumped head-first into proposing to Marina, thinking that it would be something special. When he was publicly humiliated after the scandal, had his heart broken and felt that betrayal of being lied to/used, even Anthony treated the situation like it could have been avoided if he'd taken Collin to brothels before to get less green. Almost to use prostitutes and sex as a way to force him to become more mature and not be so quick to fall in love with the first woman he gets attention from (or that's how it was framed). I think after being met with that, he sort of started putting on emotional armor. He tried to force himself to heal through performing masculinity in the rough, hyper-sexual way that was normalized. Women weren't for falling madly in love with. They were for quick use and to be discarded until he was ready to settle down for real. He created this persona to hide behind and was using women to feed his ego. All season he kept up this farce to watch women he wasn't interested in fawning over him so he could feel good about himself. Honestly he has been dehumanizing the women around him for his personal gain all season (except Pen). I think his journey is to find his old self and shake off the persona. Be who he is when he and Pen are alone. Not when he's trying to perform. I think the way he's been interacting with women is meant to be uncomfortable. Even when he's fully clothed and spinning tales to impress them, there's an ick factor to even the way he engages with the noblewomen. I remember wanting to gag every time he'd lay it on thick to get them to swoon because he was so painfully fake.
Me too! I understand people who are interpreting this to mean he cares about other people's opinions more than his own, but to me putting others first refers to acts of service. I'm not saying Colin comes across as selfish, but he definitely doesn't come across as selfless. At least not to me. He's always taking off on travels which is a form of self enrichment. Not saying that's bad, but it's not the same as Anthony staying home and taking care of everyone. Which is what allows Colin and the rest of the family to focus on themselves.
@@ceriseanne1 Putting others first is not just acts of service. Putting others first can be staying in uncomfortable situations cause you don't wanna make others feel unliked or deal with your discomfort, it's hanging out with people you don't really like cause you don't want to hurt their feelings or because social conventions say that you should and going against social conventions will upset the people around you. Putting others first is not the same as being selfless. In fact many times people will put others first out of a fear to be honest about their wants, out of fear of the consequences, out of insecurity, not just out of generosity or kindness. You're acting like Colin can only put others first if he lives like a monk, as if him travelling negates anything he does for the pleasure or comfort of others??! And of course it's not the same as Anthony, they are two different people. Anthony acted the way he thought others wanted him to, the way he thought he had to, and so is Colin. but because they are not the same person and hold different roles in their families and in society the way they *think* they're meant to behave differs.
What do you think about them killing of Francesca and Michael's story. In the books it was one of the best. The unrequited love and how the got together. Also Francesca looses John's baby and afterwards she yearns for a child. That is all gone. Was really looking forward for that story.
This might be my longest bullet points yet, but I appreciate you providing a space for me to brain dump about Bridgerton on the internet lol😂😂 --- The difference between Portia and Colin is that Colin knew Pen doesn’t need any assistance and I can’t wait for Colin to tell Portia off. I hope it’s even better in the show than it is in the book --- I stepped away to take my meds just before John came to call on Francesca and I was just waiting for the scream lmao 🤣 I cry every time I see John --- LMAO Eloise’s line about books loving to be collected. That took me out of the show for a second, I was like, what book nerd doesn’t love to collect books? --- I do not want to see the Lord Squad in part 2 --- For a show that gets criticized for queer baiting with Eloise and Benedict (and I know they’re aware of it bc Jess Brownell has been asked directly about how the audience reads Eloise as queer and she brushed it off in a way that really rubbed me the wrong way) to have their first sapphic love scene be for the male gaze makes me sick to my stomach every time. They could’ve had the Lord Squad be like, “Are you coming in Bridgerton?” And he could’ve been like, no I’ve changed my mind. I’m not mad at Colin though, I’m mad at the writers, they took this aspect of his storyline too far imo and I still don’t think the first one was totally necessary either, but I’ve made my peace with it. This one, I’m still upset about. 🤢 --- The way I’m gonna cry over Lilac Pen in part 2, like I love her in the sage/mint greens, of course I’m a big fan of the Bridgerton blues, but Lilac Pen will be v emotional for me. She’s just so beautiful, I love her sm 🥹🥹 --- I agree with you about Violet’s speech, with a caveat. The way she talks about him offering a joke to lighten the mood, sounds to me like his role within the Bridgerton family dynamic. Luke has talked about how he thinks Colin took on the role of lifting everyone’s spirits again after Edmund died and her speech to him almost alludes to that. I almost wish they would’ve taken that angle with Colin’s inner conflict this season and that might've made that part of the speech work. Bc I agree with you, his arc has more so been about him caring too much about what other people think of him, not really him trying to be a people pleaser. It’s more of a reputation thing, than a trying to anticipate other people’s needs thing. Idk maybe we’ll see more of the people pleasing stuff in part 2? But that still doesn’t track for this beat in the story lol --- Not you flipping of the queen 🤣🤣 --- ENCHANTED PEN IS CARRIAGE SCENE PEN. ENCHANTED POLIN IS ENGAGED POLIN. I’M STILL CRYING OVER THIS 😭😭 --- CHAOS COLIN IS HERE INTERRUPTING THEIR FUCKING DANCE THIS IS WHAT WE NEEDED --- Frohn making me cry again, she’s so happy he gave her that sheet music (excuse my weird names for things, I pick them up from that Polin podcast I listen to lol) --- I assumed Colin was gonna get in another carriage and try and catch up with her that way, but he fully RAN I WAS DYING HE IS FULLY GASPING FOR AIR --- I LOVE THAT HE HAS A MOMENT OF PURE FEAR THAT HE’S JUST RUINED EVERYTHING BETWEEN THEM HE DESERVED THAT AND HE’S LUCKY PEN SHOWED HIM MERCY…and then she’s lucky lmao 😏 --- I’m a little mad at Bridgerton for the fact that an instrumental Pitbull song will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life bc how many times have I rewatched that scene in the last month? --- THEIR GIGGLE AFTER THE RUDE INTERRUPTION I’M SOBBING 😭😭 --- THAT KISS AFTERWARD, IT’S LIKE THEY’RE COMING HOME TO EACH OTHER I’M STILL CRYING 😭😭😭 --- THE FUCKING FINGERS LUKE NEWTON HOW DARE YOU, I WILL NEVER BE OKAY AGAIN --- COLIN CHAOTIC PROPOSALS ONLY BRIDGERTON THAT’S MY BB 🥹🥹 --- No, but the fact that Nicola said that the carriage scene is not Colin's declaration of love...I need part 2 NOWWW
To be fair I think the book thing is meant to be like a you collect books but you don’t read them. And I’m a “book nerd” and I don’t love to collect books knowing I won’t read them again unless it’s my favorite book😭 I am not a very consumerist person though. Reading is super easy through libraries and borrowing books lol you don’t have to buy them.
This season is shaping up to be my favorite. I love the funny and romantic moments. It’s exciting since we already know so many characters, and I really like Lord Debling as a potential match, but of course it’s always gonna be Colin. The carriage scene will live in my brain rent free…what a hot spicy episode!! 🥵🌶️❤️🔥 Looking forward to what part 2 will bring! 😬
I’m hoping the second half of the season we’ll see more Benedict. I could see them throwing something in at the end and leaving us frothing until S4 comes out.
John did not know her name. He probably asked someone about her and they said "She is one of the Bridgerton girls" So that is why he showed up not knowing the name of the person he was there to see. When Violet say "Francesca?" John just repeats it because it made his heart feel good to finally put a name to the face of the woman he was thinking about.
I just want to say thank you so much for spacing these episode reactions throughout the last few weeks so that it held us over until part 2 - it kept me sane throughout the month long wait lol.
15:55 I agree with your disagreeing😂 about Colin never putting himself first. But one way that I feel it can apply comes in terms of value put behind any decision. Even his idea of who HE is, he finds second best. In the past he really NEEDED Penelope to help show him who he is. And it's good that he had a chance to figure out how wrong he can get it when he's guiding his own path. But it's also important for him to get that feedback he gets by "winning" Penelope, that good things can come from following what's true to you (your heart). It'll help him go forward in growing up to be someone he feels proud of, all on his own.
Unpopular opinion? I loved Colin's characterization in part 1. Yes, including THOSE scenes. The only change I would make is have it cut so the first lesbian scene is not for male character. I would just have the shot focused on him turning his eyes away. The first part is important to show the sex without the intimacy. You can't achieve that if you cut away from nudity, I certainly prefer that then implied sexual act. It shows what the spiral does to people pleaser like Colin. He nods to their offer. He drinks with his toxic squad, even apologized to them for calling them ungentlemanly. He drinks despite suffering from hangovers so bad he is not fine after almost 24 hours.
Some YT notifications just hit different 😂😂 Thank you for making the wait for Thursday a little more bearable ❤❤❤ "Nothing a book loves more than being collected" ... and someone took that very personally lol
Hi Daria, thank you for your video. Your reaction is amazing (it mirrored mine... I should film me while I will watch next episodes XD). I want to take few minutes to comment on Violet's speech about Colin "rarely putting himself first". As you may, at this point in time, know this generated a lot of discussion in the fandom (Kathentony vs Poilin war!). And I agree that your correction would make more sense in Colin's character even though I do not agree all the discussion like "Colin is a selfish brat". There are 2 fanvid that attach Violet speech with some images that, yes, that may have not been the perfect words for describing Colin but he is CARING! That is the point. When he says to Marina that he would have married her if she had told the truth, when he asks Daphne "Is everything alright, sister?", when he asks Penelope if she is ok when she says "maybe I've not been so loyal" and when follows Penelope in 3x01 or when he listen to Ben's struggles. And it is true that he makes jokes to lighten the mood "Bungled Nuptials" sentence (and more in the book, unfortunately we don't get much jokester Colin in the show). I will leave the link to the 2 fanvid because I think they are amazing. Thank you for your video too. I loved to listen your opinions! th-cam.com/video/ve7MEriRHYI/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB th-cam.com/video/T5lv3uEZlEE/w-d-xo.html
Okay, this is my tinfoil hat moment, but, I’m a Cressida is sapphic truther. Like the fact that her father is SO angry about Eloise visiting gives hella she had an “incident” with a girl before vibes. Plus, when discussing her offer of friendship to Eloise she refers to it as Eloise rejecting her “suit” - the language of courtship. And when Eloise comes to visit during calling hour Eloise is like yes I’m calling. Regardless of Eloise’s sexuality, Cressida is giving repressed sapphic vibes I swear
@@FullofLit like I don’t know if they’d go for it - just picture not having the gross dynamic between Sir Phillip and Eloise and instead have a moment between Cressida and Eloise set to a string cover of Good Luck Babe JUST SAYIN
Love watching your reactions, especially to Bridgerton! I wish I had a friend like you to watch together and be excited together about it. I suppose I have, by seeing you videos lol.
I gotta say hands down this is probably my favorite season, they had actual good subplots like Francesca and the Featheringtons who were actually hilarious this season lol. Should’ve cut the Mondridge family stuff out tho, and Polin’s chemistry? SO GOOD, can’t wait for Part 2
09:16 My own theory is that Colin is being offered what is the most stereotypical exploitive and shallow fantasies, and we see his reaction--disinterest. This echoes the contents of his journal, about physical intimacy existing without any emotional connection. And NOW that he's found that emotional connection (even if he hasn't yet realized it) his isn't even tempted to go through the motions even when presented with the most tangible temptation of such possible. IMHO 16:14 I suspect she is saying what Colin needs to hear. 17:40 Totally agree. She had no idea what it was really like to live in an unloving home, constantly worried about money and position, desiring what she herself had no interest in. Armored and padded by her large, powerful, prestigious, mutually supportive family she simply cannot imagine what living with any level of real desperation might do to a person. I thought the carriage scene was a fantasy come true for anyone and everyone who has ever been in love without any real belief you can be loved in return. For both Penelope and Colin. Two very lonely people who fit together like hands in gloves.
I don't think Mama Violet lost her touch, she's just a little bit distracted this season, 'cause she's a lil bit interested in love for HERSELF this season. And I'm a fan.
Benedict has a pattern. Dating women who work or are bold. The Modiste, the artist/nudist, the widow who leads in dances and attend meeting exclusively for men. Plus he is restless ever since Anthony bought his school place
Regarding violets line about Colin never putting himself first. I think it makes sense in context of everything else she said. If he is trying to be there for everyone else emotionally by listening and making ppl laugh, adjusting his personally to suit others then he isn’t focused on his emotional needs. That is different from Anthony who did his duty for the family but wasn’t emotionally available to them. They made that clear during his scene with Gregory bc that was the first time he had really spoken to him about hurt their dad. And Daphne mentions how he’s miserable and resents what he has to do for them.
Your rant on Violet telling Colin he never puts himself first feeling a bit off WAS SO ME WHEN I HEARD IT. Giiiirlllll, I thought I was crazy, but I'm glad I'm not the only one
I agree! (Preface: I love Bridgerton!) I think one of my biggest annoyances with the show is they tend to tell us certain characterizations instead of showing them. We never saw Colin putting others before himself. We never saw Anthony feeling crippled by the expectations of his role in season 1. They "told" us that was his experience when they re-characterized him in season 2. Daphne even has a line in her speech in season 1 (my favorite 😊) where she tells Simon just because something isn't perfect doesn't mean it's not worthy of love - we never saw Simon struggling with that, so that line felt out of place for me. Love the show, but I think they should pay attention to the writing more.
You actually see Colin put others first a lot in season 1 & 2...a few examples are when he was willing to marry Marina even with all her lies and being concerned about her reputation and not his, then when Daphne was struggling with the Duke he took his own pain and put it aside to ask her how she is...then Benedict with struggling with his art school stuff, Colin went out of his way to help him even though he was struggling with purpose...there are many examples of Colin getting steamrolled by others and not being allowed to express himself emotionally but always be there for others when they are at a low point. I did a rewatch of S1 & S2 before S3 to really understand Colin and it made me realize how many times this poor boy was ridiculed and put down for being so emotional, so I totally understood why he put on a rakeish persona, which is what Anthony & Benedict kept telling him to do....and why Violet saw straight thru that and said he puts everyone first...he really does. It is subtle, but he allows others to have space for their emotional well-being, while no one gives him the space for his emotions (besides Violet & Penelope)
I really liked Lord Debling. He was very honest and considerate when speaking of marriage when, in that society, he didn't have to be. He's also clearly never fallen in love so now I want a spin-off where he finds a delightful naturalist whilst on his travels!
genuinely the line "it is tiring, is it not? the necessity imposed on us to remain cavelier about the one thing in life that holds genuine meaning. do you not find it lonely?" is so chefs kiss like i cannot get enough of this line. it's literally colin saying wHY must i conform to this stupid toxic masculinity? WHY do i have to pretend to be emotionless about sex, and pretend I have no regard for women? I find it lonely. WHY must i pretend I don't want true love? and it's beautiful. colin officially became my favourite love interest after that. there was no contest. he said im tired of this bullshit. and he said it in the most period drama poetic olden days speech. like thats how you write modern day themes into a period drama and make it feel natural. EDIT: just for context whenever eloise speaks im immediately taken out of the story. and i have no objection to her having modern day views, that's an integral part of her character and i like it, but something about the way her dialogue is written does not feel natural to me, it feels like the writers wanted to say feminist things to me from the 20th century, just to let me know like yeah they're aware it sucked for women back then. so thats what i'm comparing it to when i say colin having this shedding of the toxic masculinity storyline is how you write modern themes into a period drama and make it feel natural.
I absolutely love this comment. Eloise has perfectly fine views but they make her say them in the THE most twitter send tweet way ever. I really don't like it. I agree that the way they phrased that line with Colin was perfect. He never had to say the words "toxic masculinity" or rail that they were all horrible fuckboys to get his point across. "Cavalier" is also a fantastic word generally.
@@singingstar999 “the most twitter send tweet way” is the perfect way to describe how eloise speaks 😂😂 i love that. she literally sounds like she should be on twitter all the time
The hair stroke thing gets me bc it's like that scene from Gilmore Girls where Lane has fantasized about Todd and has wanted nothing more than to run her fingers through his hair.... and then does. Penelope is doing exactly this as like dream fulfillment and Colin kind of picks up on this, and that's why he enjoys it so much to know that she's wanted him too, bc she stops everything do it. She isn't running her fingers through it while they're making out, it's it's own separate act.
Once again you perfectly articulated my thoughts on yet another Colin brothel scene. Hate it so much for so many reasons. Seeing so many Polin fans defend those scenes endlessly still blows my mind. As usual, love your reactions!
@rightsarentpolitical Yeah for sure. It should've been done differently. I'm always gonna be disappointed with what they've done with Colin in part 1. My re-watch will have to start with the scene where he interrupts the dance with Debling and go from there. Most of everything before that is too upsetting to me to watch again.
Yaaaaaaas ive been waiting for this! And your reaction did not dissapoint! 😍😍 I vannot wait for part 2! Have u fone a reaction to the trailer for part 2!!
Idk, I actually do think we kinda needed to see Colin with the other women to understand that when he was with them it was purely physical whereas with Penelope it’s a legitimate connection. Even in the first scene he looks at the clock first and insists that he has to go because he’s “decidedly late,” only to arrive at the market BEFORE Pen, and very much not late. Like mans had a good time but was ready to go! And in the second it’s a realization that these women are just a distraction-an act. For Colin, who is obsessed with playing a role, I think it’s important that we actively saw him playing the role of a rake, which the entire ton expects and wants him to be. I just feel he gets too much crap for the ick of those scenes but like-that’s the point! My man isn’t a rake he’s playing one and I love that for him. 🥰
a hearty congrats to the newly engaged couple (and now comes the angst and drama lol)

Ooh, I love this! The himbo husbands club is just what he needs!
Aaand now I want to see those three men hanging out, just happy telling each other what they love about their wifes.
Please, that has to happen!!
They are proud Wife Guys, Will is their mentor and Ant pops in when he's in town.
I’m sure the brothers in law would genuinely love to hear about Colin’s travel stories and that they would all get along just talking about wacky things.
I understand but they not Colin’s vibe.
You can make a male virgin easily as hot by being ravenous and naturally assertive.👅
completely agree
The carriage scene was already sexy but the confession, the consent, the misunderstanding and him gently putting back her dress and finally the declaration made it 10× hotter ✨
(I am the type of person who usually skips s*x scenes lol)
I do as well but this one was done really well. This was funny, sweet, and hot without being overly showy. Sometimes less is more. This scene showed we can get an extremely hot, passionate scene without full body exposure.
This is literally the only sex scene I did not skip this season, they usually make me very uncomfortable, but I couldn't look away for this one.
That "oh God!" from Colin NEVER fails to make me cackle everytime 😂😂
And then pen's facial expression of her being pleased with herself about it.😂
He literally looks at her like a starving dog I love himmmm
@Seleneschild999 i know right. I am a doggy mam myself and it has the same energy as my lab when he really wants my attention. And he is so excited to see me. When I give in and pet him and he gets this "did I do good? Am I a good boy?" expression on his face. Colin has major "yeh I'm a good boy" energy.😂 He really does like to please people, one person in particular. Good boy colin. Ad him following her on (non verbal) command at the fair. Pen in the book touches Colin's hair and chuckles... because his hair reminds her of Eloise's. She thinks of El as she is having sex with Colin. Luckily does not tell Colin, lol.

Cressida put Lord Debling on when she said, "eros and psyche," the fact that she clocked it . Love her for it ❤
Total agree.
‘How the turntables have turned’…. Now that’s an iconic line! 😂

13:35 that’s my favorite thing about this season- finally a soft love interest. I enjoy Kanthony but I’m desperate for more soft male love interests
Yes! Also love a wallflower-type as a female lead. Really refreshing to see in a romance.
Yes me too
I love kanthony so much and I think it’s great that every season has its own different story line and trope and POLIN is that couple in their own lane just like Kanthony is that couple in their own lane as well!!!!!
@@FullofLit Exactly! They could have gotten the same point across by having him being distracted while flirting with other women...which they did!
But alas 🫠
Another great reaction btw! Can't wait for part 2! 🥰
“He’s like a cat in heat!” **DARIA FURIOUSLY FANS SELF**
While that's true, she is right that there are different ways they could have communicated that to the audience
I love how you pointed out Colin is the fastest to act on his feelings once he realizes what they are. That makes me like him more :)
The first time when i find Colin attractive when Pen touched his hair, run her fingers through it and he did the FACE! The FACE is ❤ a turn on.
YESSSSSS 😆😆
People act like there has never been a man this down bad for a woman, thick or not just because it's not something we ever really see in entertainment but it for sure happens all the damn time!
you look so pretty in this video, the curls are slaying and your blouse is super cute 💌✨️
thank you so much and it’s actually a dress from free people!!
@@FullofLitYou’re doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
@@FullofLitAgreed on the hair/fit being perfect for the vibe, but just fyi you touch your hair so much it’s distracting & almost constant readjustments… I know a lot of us have subconscious things like that we don’t register or notice in ourselves.😊
the “rip” after you said “beelined” i’m crying 😭
The carriage scene really makes the rest if the season worth it haha. I’ve been struggling with them scattering so many stories and characters (that I frankly don’t care about) but the carriage scene was chef’s kiss
"B*tch, you better put on a jacket... You better take some Tylenol..."
Literally me preparing for most social functions.
I was about to comment the same thing. He is a people pleaser. And I would say it went as far as society told him to be a rake and sure enough he did.
I'm not a show Eloise fan but I think Eloise meant that books are meant to be read not ONLY collected 😭😭🤣
My Mom always "words without deeds mean nothing" Well done John :)
Now who’s gonna tell her abt the fact that Luke and Nicola did this scene wayyyyy beyond what the directors wanted bc “we didn’t hear them say cut”
What is it with the Bridgertons and their memorable speeches, I CANT HANDLE IT DAMNIT
Bridgerton is absolutely 1000% better if you take it as comedy, and this season is GIVING!!!
ANOTHER FULLOFLIT REACTION VIDEO! I’ve been waiting in anticipation for this video… Can’t wait for S3 Part 2 and the rest of your reaction videos!
The motivation is completely different and the way they feel about it is different too.
i really love Penelope's outfits with her scenes with Lord Debling, especially that one she wore in the drawing room/library...
The 'and they're right on both counts' cracked me uppp 😂
But did you see HOW he adjusted her dress at the end? Did you see how he didn't touch her gown with specific fingers that had been busy? So freakin' hot.
I'd say you missed the fact that Colin fixes Pen's dress without using the fingers he put in her so as to not dirty the dress 🤭🤭
I completely agree with you about the "you rarely put yourself first" line. That stuck out to me too.
@@wildoranges your point of view is well-reasoned! thanks for sharing it with us!
What do you think about them killing of Francesca and Michael's story. In the books it was one of the best. The unrequited love and how the got together. Also Francesca looses John's baby and afterwards she yearns for a child. That is all gone. Was really looking forward for that story.
This might be my longest bullet points yet, but I appreciate you providing a space for me to brain dump about Bridgerton on the internet lol😂😂
--- The difference between Portia and Colin is that Colin knew Pen doesn’t need any assistance and I can’t wait for Colin to tell Portia off. I hope it’s even better in the show than it is in the book
--- I stepped away to take my meds just before John came to call on Francesca and I was just waiting for the scream lmao 🤣 I cry every time I see John
--- LMAO Eloise’s line about books loving to be collected. That took me out of the show for a second, I was like, what book nerd doesn’t love to collect books?
--- I do not want to see the Lord Squad in part 2
--- For a show that gets criticized for queer baiting with Eloise and Benedict (and I know they’re aware of it bc Jess Brownell has been asked directly about how the audience reads Eloise as queer and she brushed it off in a way that really rubbed me the wrong way) to have their first sapphic love scene be for the male gaze makes me sick to my stomach every time. 🤢
--- The way I’m gonna cry over Lilac Pen in part 2, like I love her in the sage/mint greens, of course I’m a big fan of the Bridgerton blues, but Lilac Pen will be v emotional for me. She’s just so beautiful, I love her sm 🥹🥹
--- I agree with you about Violet’s speech, with a caveat. But that still doesn’t track for this beat in the story lol
--- Not you flipping of the queen 🤣🤣
--- ENCHANTED PEN IS CARRIAGE SCENE PEN. ENCHANTED POLIN IS ENGAGED POLIN. I’M STILL CRYING OVER THIS 😭😭
--- CHAOS COLIN IS HERE INTERRUPTING THEIR FUCKING DANCE THIS IS WHAT WE NEEDED
--- Frohn making me cry again, she’s so happy he gave her that sheet music (excuse my weird names for things, I pick them up from that Polin podcast I listen to lol)
--- I assumed Colin was gonna get in another carriage and try and catch up with her that way, but he fully RAN I WAS DYING HE IS FULLY GASPING FOR AIR
--- I LOVE THAT HE HAS A MOMENT OF PURE FEAR THAT HE’S JUST RUINED EVERYTHING BETWEEN THEM HE DESERVED THAT AND HE’S LUCKY PEN SHOWED HIM MERCY…and then she’s lucky lmao 😏
--- I’m a little mad at Bridgerton for the fact that an instrumental Pitbull song will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life bc how many times have I rewatched that scene in the last month?
--- THEIR GIGGLE AFTER THE RUDE INTERRUPTION I’M SOBBING 😭😭
--- THAT KISS AFTERWARD, IT’S LIKE THEY’RE COMING HOME TO EACH OTHER I’M STILL CRYING 😭😭😭
--- THE FUCKING FINGERS LUKE NEWTON HOW DARE YOU, I WILL NEVER BE OKAY AGAIN
--- COLIN CHAOTIC PROPOSALS ONLY BRIDGERTON THAT’S MY BB 🥹🥹
--- No, but the fact that Nicola said that the carriage scene is not Colin's declaration of love...I need part 2 NOWWW
Looking forward to what part 2 will bring! 😬
I’m hoping the second half of the season we’ll see more Benedict. I could see them throwing something in at the end and leaving us frothing until S4 comes out.
I liked the love triangle this season, I WANTED AND NEEDED Collin to be jealous and eat his wordsssss
i literally set myself a reminder for this video. love your reactions 🫶
Me too 😂
well i’m very glad to have you ☺️
John did not know her name. He probably asked someone about her and they said "She is one of the Bridgerton girls" So that is why he showed up not knowing the name of the person he was there to see. When Violet say "Francesca?" John just repeats it because it made his heart feel good to finally put a name to the face of the woman he was thinking about.
I was as gagged as u were!! So much fun watching your videos, keep them coming 😍 - a fan from Finland 🤘

THIS 🗣️🗣️🗣️
@@FullofLit like I don’t know if they’d go for it - just picture not having the gross dynamic between Sir Phillip and Eloise and instead have a moment between Cressida and Eloise set to a string cover of Good Luck Babe JUST SAYIN

I so greatly appreciate your rant on the brothel scene in this ep and I seriously agree with literally every single thing you said about it
I gotta say hands down this is probably my favorite season, they had actual good subplots like Francesca and the Featheringtons who were actually hilarious this season lol. Should’ve cut the Mondridge family stuff out tho, and Polin’s chemistry? SO GOOD, can’t wait for Part 2

Been waiting for your reaction to this episode!
I think after Marina told him to grow the fuck up Colin took that to heart, but instead of maturing he came back trying to be the cool guy.
THIS is the reaction I was waiting for!!! ❤
i wait all week just to see you get excited about the episode before i watch. sooo much fun
IMHO
16:14 I suspect she is saying what Colin needs to hear.
Forgetting to film an outro because of Polin high is completely valid.
@@CKeel88It is so easy to see. I don't know how others are missing it!
Loved your reactions as always!!
I really liked Lord Debling. He was very honest and considerate when speaking of marriage when, in that society, he didn't have to be. He's also clearly never fallen in love so now I want a spin-off where he finds a delightful naturalist whilst on his travels!
I've started paying attention to wether or not characters doing nudity actually get to speak. Results are usually depressing.
genuinely the line "it is tiring, is it not? the necessity imposed on us to remain cavelier about the one thing in life that holds genuine meaning. do you not find it lonely?" is so chefs kiss
like i cannot get enough of this line. it's literally colin saying wHY must i conform to this stupid toxic masculinity?
@@singingstar999 “the most twitter send tweet way” is the perfect way to describe how eloise speaks 😂😂 i love that. she literally sounds like she should be on twitter all the time
NEVER CLICKED SO FAST
The hair stroke thing gets me bc it's like that scene from Gilmore Girls where Lane has fantasized about Todd and has wanted nothing more than to run her fingers through his hair.... and then does. Penelope is doing exactly this as like dream fulfillment and Colin kind of picks up on this, and that's why he enjoys it so much to know that she's wanted him too, bc she stops everything do it. She isn't running her fingers through it while they're making out, it's it's own separate act.
I watched your full length reaction and I was still waiting all day for this to drop 😂😂😂
I have a problem?
I stopped watching Bridgerton a while ago, but I still watch all your reaction videos.
Once again you perfectly articulated my thoughts on yet another Colin brothel scene. Hate it so much for so many reasons. Seeing so many Polin fans defend those scenes endlessly still blows my mind. As usual, love your reactions!
ESPECIALLY when the book has the journal entries about the landscape, the travels, and not a woman's body
🙄
@rightsarentpolitical Yeah for sure. It should've been done differently. I'm always gonna be disappointed with what they've done with Colin in part 1. My re-watch will have to start with the scene where he interrupts the dance with Debling and go from there. Most of everything before that is too upsetting to me to watch again.

3:32 Hard agree! I love how they can communicate through silence
DID YOU SEE THE FINGERS?? when Colin puts the dress back on her shoulder...youll know what I mean...
