I am glad to hear this honest review. I imagine a company as large as Toyota with their research likely did a ton of research on this tire and went with what would work for the majority of owners. I am all about the performance and feel vs. the look. Happy to hear these are decent enough.

My Michelin AT2s are pushing 59,000 on my 2016 TRD Off-road. Still got tread left though I’ll probably have to replace them this year. I’ve taken it off road on the desert dirt roads in SW Texas with no issues even when crawling through road washouts. The TRD PRO/off road setup is really more geared toward Baja style off-roading anyway. Not the best looking but very capable in that situation. That said 95% of my driving is on pavement so I appreciate the better gas mileage and smooth and quiet ride that they provide. Not sure what I’ll go with when I do replace them.

After 6 months of picking lots of AT’s apart, I’m doubling down and getting getting my first set of Michelins. I’ve only ever experienced Michelin’s on Lexus vehicles before, so I always kept them on the back burner so-to-speak. Well, here we go! Thanks Dude.

They're a very good tire. The issue has always been that they're not large or as aggressive as most people would like. I've never had any trouble selling them on Craigslist for good money. The set you have at least have a better looking side wall than some others.

Agreed. I’ve had KO2s and Grabber3s. Now I’m running a bigger 295/70r18 Defender LTX 10ply. It is a good medium of having a bigger tire look but the best on road and light off road performance of the Michelin’s.

I came from the ko2 to the Ltx and I prefer the ltx. They are quieter, smoother, and easier to turn. There is a big difference. I’ll agree they don’t look as aggressive but for me the Ltx is the way to go. Just depends on what your after.

Funny you bring these tires up because I have been driving my truck a lot as of lately and said to myself. They ride great!! It's just the look. They are a small looking tire. A quiet tire on a giant truck. But I don't even know what I'll change to when the time comes

I'm with you. I have the same tire on my 2019 SR5 (with the TRD OFF ROAD package). They are great tires. I have been debating on the tire pressures. I don't like a manf. suggesting different tire pressures (front & rear). They look great to me. Easy to "bark um" too! 381HP.

I'm running 275/65/18 on my 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser and have been for the past several years. I drive on the road 95% of the time and off-road mostly at Padre Island National Seashore, Texas, which is nearly 70 miles of uninhabited island beach. The conditions there can get very messy very quickly and these tires haven't failed me in those situations. They perform very well in all road conditions and serve my specific purpose.

  • @timhenrichs

I still have them on my pro. Only reason is because they performed adequately off road. Now if I had a better off road tire I am sure the truck would have had performed better, but the Michelins worked. So instead of upgrading tires I was able to do other mods first. Performance is good, they just are not aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

My ‘07 tundra came with big ko’s, po put them on and they were pretty good by the time i got the truck. When i replaced them, the new ko2 just came out, so on they went. Almost 4 yrs with them and they were a fantastic tire. I live in nfld and you can never really figure out the nasty weather. Never an issue. Traded the ‘07 on the ‘17 pro, dealer demo with the Michelin’s. Had the ko2’s put on before i took delivery, they have 55k km’s or just over 30k miles. Rotated every 8k km’s with oil change as per dealer. Tires are starting to show their age but are still in pretty good shape. I’d guess 30/40% tread remaining. I did keep the Michelin’s to try and sell them, recoup a bit from the ko2’s. I figure ill probably need to swap them out before the winter as the ko2’s will be closing in on 75k km’s. The Michelin’s only have about 10k km’s on them so i should have a good life in them to compare. All in all, I’m very happy with the ko2’s and would put them on again.

funny enough I came across some TRD off road take off wheels and tires and I'm currently using them on my 2011 sequoia. I wanted 18s as a change from the 20s I had on originally and the thicker sidewall makes a huge difference. really smooth tire even when worn in. I think it’s a decent OEM tire , probably not worthy of a pro trim truck.
Seen video of the pro truck tested on TFL truck with those tires .
Not all that great off road . It’s more of street IMO .
Years ago the Michelin name really meant something. Now days personally I think most passenger car/truck tires,
    your just getting the name.
Now large commercial truck tires are a different story, Michelin still makes a 1st rate commercial truck tire.

I understand why Toyota put those tires, they're the perfect compromise. Decent performance and the least rolling resistance.
Having said that if they were 295's the truck would have a much better stance.

    • @jdfleetguy28
      @jdfleetguy28 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I totally agree 295 width is really the best width for best stance, however not a very common width among LT tires, but they are out there. To get the height I am after in the tires I was looking at in the past, I have generally had to compromise with a 285 width.
265 and 275 are way to narrow and totally screw up the stance on the tundra, especially when combined with that crazy+50 and +60 offsets Toyota likes to use on their trucks. I typically like a +20 - +30 offset and at least a 285 width on at least 32.5-34" tall tire for the Tundra's.

Isn't part of the problem with the "tires" not filling out the wheel wells on the TRD Tundra part the fault of the RIM? The rims that come with it are 18" or 19" right? A bit smaller than the 20"s that I have on my 2019 Platinum. I plan to put the K02's on my 20" rims when I replace the tires this next year and I think they should look ok.

  • @Windbreakercliffs

I wouldn’t take delivery of my 2020 TRD Pro without a tire swap to make sure I didn’t have to drive on those Michelin’s. They float sideways in the snow here in CO...I put my Duratrac’s on with a Cap and snow is never an obstacle now.

  • @paulzimbeck3450
    @paulzimbeck3450 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I come from a 2018 with a wider K20 on them. My 2020 TRD pro tires are much better than the K20 in my opinion. Quieter, less slippage on icy conditions - my K2O’s were wider so that was probably an issue. Also shed mud better and have more grip in greasy mud. All IMO of course. Hate the look though. In the end, performance matters to me more than looks. I plan to run these bald and then upgrade.

I sold tires for four years straight when I was a bit younger. Michelin was always the Best made tires period. They don’t make a more aggressive tire unfortunately, but the quality of that tire will be better than what it’s replaced with. If Michelin came out with a better looking AT I would buy them in a heartbeat. The stock Goodyear Duratracs on my TrailBoss were great the first 15K miles, but then developed a horrible droning noise that's progressively gotten worse as I've approached 32K miles now. The tread life on the GY's are good and I rotate every 5K miles. But I can't stand the droning sound that they're producing. I have probably another 20K miles left on these tires, but I'm going to suck it up and drop some cash on the Michelins because the noise is just that bad.

@@ahmadalmajid6860 I actually went with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3's that I got for a good price at Costco. These tires were night and day difference between the GY Duratracs. Extremely quiet, great traction so far in dry and wet conditions. Haven't had any snow or ice here in NC and I've put around 9k miles on them (1 rotation). They've done well enough off-road in rocky and grassy/mud terrain. I doubt they'll be great for real mud but I don't do that often. They don't look too bad. I would say looks wise, they're worse than the GY and probably BFG KO2s, but slightly better than the Michelins.

I've had them on two different trucks and they are a really good tire in snow and rain and they offer a good ride. I just hate the look of them. Very underwhelming sidewall.

Mark, does your tires have Air or Nitrogen? I have a 2007 tundra/ Nitrogen fill.

    Great tire just a “lightweight”...
I learned from a tire shop that there is a
“LT” version that is stronger with higher weight rating. They said it was only $10 more per tire than the “P” version. I just remember rolling my OEM tires off my tailgate and they just collapse when they hit the ground. I don’t like weak links and tires are something I don’t mess around with and always get the best. And the OEM battery... I bought a Northstar AGM battery. Much better!!

Completely agree on the look being on the non-aggressive side, but offroad TFL Trucks has shown these tires are pretty good in deep mud. See for yourself: th-cam.com/video/jaaycMzpHqo/w-d-xo.html

Michelin are excellent if not one of the best tires manufactured. But yes they are not the right fit for the Tundra!

Just watch for dry rot! They will last 100,000 miles on my van, which is much heavier that tundras-load range E

Take them off now and sell them for $600 bucks. Put that towards new man tires.

You sound like a man who will not be changing the tires now. They probably would be ok if they were just bigger. It looks to small on the truck.
