We have a second home in Klamath Falls. Along with the outdoors activities, the cost of living is a fraction of other areas in the country. Oregon Tech is there which brings a nice dynamic to the town.
Oregon is beautiful. There is one consderation you fail to mention. Politics! One of the most radically progressive states in the nation. Portland was one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. Progressive policies turned it into a shithole. If Greater Idaho ever becomes a reality, it will make southern Oregon much more attractive.
I lived in Roseburg, Salem, and Medford/Central Point from 1993-2005. Most of it in Medford/Central Point from 1994-2005. This is a tough one. I don't like the idea of being a resident of a state where the vast majority of the population is totally contrary to what I stand for. Oregon is beautiful, the diversity of climates and environments is incredible. The amount of cartel activity in Oregon is too much for liking - they run a large part of the state.
Did I miss the link to the tax analysis? I agree that’s it’s a beautiful area-my ex mother in law lives in Rogue River as well. Such a cute town. But I can’t handle the summer heat and smoke. I prefer my place on the 65 degree coast and driving inland when I want a few hours of 100 degree river weather and come back home where I can sleep ;) I spent a great deal of time at Asante in Medford when my grandmother was at the end of her days. It is by far the best hospital I’ve ever seen. With respect to the political comments, yes the Portland-dominated state govt is very “progressive.” However the southern Oregon culture is mostly very conservative (with pockets of liberals like in Ashland). My experience of driving to Ashland is passing a million Trump signs and then being forced to wear my virtue-signaling Covid mask at the Shakespeare festival lol.
There isn't really any official definition of what are is considered Southern Oregon. For this channel, I am referring to Jackson and Josephine Counties only.
Is it true you often get bad smoke from California and Oregon forest fires which are increasing so much. I've heard you are in a smoke zone so to speak....
The smoke is one of the biggest lies I hear about Southern Oregon. Yes, we CAN get smoke. It totally depends on the location of fires and the direction of the wind. There have been years in the past where it seems like there are fires in every direction and were overwhelmed with smoke for a few weeks. No doubt that has happened, but that is definitely not the norm. This year has been like most where we have experienced some smoke, then it gets blown out a couple days later. It's definitely not as bad as how some make it sound.
I totally disagree, the smoke is a huge problem and the only reason I am still here is because I have a child who is in High school. I seriously worry if we are all going to get lung cancer from breathing in so much smoke every year. Burning on private property begins in February and continues til May, then the forest service does controlled burns through much of May, then if we are lucky we get a smoke free June before the wildfire/arson fires start. The smoke, dust, and freeway pollution gets trapped and the Rogue Valley has some of the worst air quality in the US and people are leaving because of it. I would be gone tomorrow if I could be.
Well now…..we bought ten acres on the north side of Williams two years ago this month. I think we are included in the Applegate Valley area. We get a lovely breeze most late afternoons. It keeps the air moving and makes for beautiful evenings. We moved from Vancouver Washington. We were choking on smoke every summer that funnels down the gorge from fires in eastern Washington. So smoke there or smoke here? I pick here on the edge of Williams. Also right after we moved here I found out I had breast cancer. I have been plunged into two surgeries, radiation, and a lot of doctor’s appointments. Super good care has been given to me just a gorgeous 25 minute drive to the hospital (which was really appreciated with everyday radiation treatments for a month. People from the coast have to stay in the hospital accommodations that the hospital has set up). Also I have to say that if this means anything, here in Williams it is about 1 Biden/Harris sign posted in front of a rural property to about 20 Trump signs posted….and 1 Kennedy sign. We have a pony, chickens, goats, and a big koi fish pond full of giant fish we inherited with the sale of the property. Life is grand here as a place to retire to for us. No more long depressing winters. Most days the sun shines here!!!!! No moss on the roof!!!! On the hottest days we have a short drive to the Applegate River for a dip. It is like we are kids again!!!! One thing I know from having been a career military officers wife, and living all over the world….everywhere has good and bad. I almost lost my mind in Hawaii from “island fever”. We love it here. Carrying on!!!
@@jennywinks7979 Thanks. I hope you are well now. Your place sounds wonderful, that is exactly what I am looking for. So you don't get much smoke from the wild fires?? I heard it kind of settles in Ashland.

Great video, Brian! Getting more and more excited for our move out there next year and our visit next month.

I live and work in Medford. No way I'm ever leaving!
I have been considering moving to Klamath Falls but wondering about the job market like maybe jobs are scarce.

I do talk about politics in a lot of the other videos on the channel. This one was just focused on a more specific topic...

Thank you for watching! I think you're spot on!

@@SabrinaMaye-yo4tv You're totally allowed to disagree. If you decide it becomes too much for you, I know someone who can help you sell your place. :)
