Hello Brian. My name is Timothy and I’m getting ready to sell my multigenerational hobby farm in trail. I’ve got a 3 bedroom home, an awesome rustic cabin, when I say rustic that means it’s really cool because it’s got wi-fi and everything like plumbing,etc. and a shop, 10x30 nursery, shop and a 3 acre flat buildable lot with power and water on it . Also nice outbuildings, places for animals, etc. all on a year round creek .message back if you want.

Let me guess.... youre from California?

White City is not a municipality. It is run by Jackson county and policed by the sheriffs office. It was originally a military training and POW camp during World War 2. It was the largest military instalation in its time and alot of old infrastructure are still in place. But it was abandon by the government after WW2 and is still run by the county. I am suprised Shady Cove did not make this list. It seems to have gone down hill since I lived there for a short time in early 2000's. Sams valley has its issues, but the residents out here are pretty awesome and pretty vigilent about watching out for the community. Several fires have broke out in the area and locals listening to the scanner will tear out and join the fight, and many times have the fire out before the fire department gets there.

I have LOVED Lithia Water all my life (I'm 70).

This is more of a “worst in Medford” than “Southern Oregon”

Wouldnt these concerns apply just about anywhere else? Oregon is a great state to live in.

We tried so hard to make Ashland work and finally left for good last year. It only seems to make sense for Californians with a lot of money. My mom went to college there. Today, SOU has some of the most impoverished students of anywhere. The home prices shot up more than other places and don’t make sense for the wages. We spent a lot of money on home inspections only to find most of the homes had major problems that were known by the owners and not disclosed. In S OR always do a sewer inspection - many sewers are made from crumbling orangeberg material. We had to cancel four offers due to broken sewer lines. This cost us thousands in inspections and even paid for repair bids. Owners there are very cheap when it comes to infrastructure repairs. Also you have to request your inspector look for asbestos insulation in the attic, widely used there. Sometimes they lay bat over it to hide it. And finally, lots of rotten wood decks that cost Southern California labor rates (handyman level is $50/hr), to replace or repair. The area is beautiful. People who are not from Oregon are a tad more dishonest, there especially. I’ve lived both CA and OR and can say non native Ashlanders do not have a problem self serving or lying.

I thought of Ashland years ago, but now thinking of retiring at least half the year out of the country. Other countries are way cheaper, have better food and medical care than the US. I may do winters in Thailand and summers in Poland. But the USA is crossed of my list permanently.

I live in Rogue River and can tell you, Southern Oregon is the most beautiful place to live. Apparently there is a chapter of the Sons of Anarchy in my town too!
