    I use a nail file instead of a clipper - you can just file off the tip with out risk of cutting too much :)

    Thank you for posting this, I know how to clip their nails but I'm so afraid of doing it myself, seeing other people doing their dragon's nails really helps. My own boy's fussy about being handled so it's not easy getting them done myself. Your girls are works of art, what gorgeous tummies on them! So relaxed as well.

    My beardie is an aggressive cuddler and he will sink his nails so deep into my skin when it's time to go back in his cage. I thought about cutting them, but I could never :( He uses them to catch it food. Which is a weird behavior... he rather use his paws first and then his tongue. I don't question it anymore o.o Like... do you bro. Do you.

      freek attema That's uncomfortable for even me, so I wouldn't do that to him. I got some rocks. His constant climbing on them is really effective. It doesn't make his nails super short, but it's enough to not bother him when he walks.

    We have a great trick for our beardie. We put slate tiles on the bottom of his enclosure and it keeps his nails really short just by being there. We cut them about 1 time a year and they are almost always really nicely short!

  • @angeladpsp1
    @angeladpsp1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If by chance you cut the vein and the nail starts bleeding you can use Flour, Baby Powder, Corn Starch and dip the nail into the Flour and move the nail around to coat the nail well and to get it into the nail, then after a minute it will stop bleeding. I have done this myself and it works. Believe me I hate it when I by accidently cut way to short but he's a citrus hypo and sometimes it's hard to see especially with different lighting and if he stays still for me. That's why I put him on the Window Shelf to get the natural light and I can see it much better.

    The vein he is talking about is called the "quick," it's the white part on the dragon behind the long black nail. Many mammals and some reptiles with sharp claws/nails have quicks. Do not cut that, as it can harm your beardie, as stated in the video.

    • @bread9173
      @bread9173 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That white part is internediate. The quick is pinkish looking in that white part.

    So cute how you baby talk them :)
    Looks even easier than dog or cat nails, what with the tip being so much skinnier than the part of the nail with the quick.
    About how often is this necessary if you don't have rough tile in their cage? How often if you DO have rough tile? I'm just wondering how much it helps.

    hi! I 've just rescued a couple females and the don't want to eat. what can I do? I offered them crickets, hornworms, superworms, kale, banana, moringa leaves. so far they ate a couple pillbugs each and thats it. I'm worried. I gave them a bath and they pooped. at first a hard white plug and then more runny.

    BEARDIE LOVERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!
    Had the Beardie at the vet for an examination and was told by the vet of exotic animals for over 25 years that if you trim their nails you are actually opening up a chance of serious infection which would be very very painful for them which would turn them into angry critters and biting. HE basically said when living in their environment who trims their nails then? They need the long nails for climbing and if trimmed there not as effective therefore losing interest in food because of the pain they have to endure. My vet says please do not even think of trimming them! And if you do the unheard of and cut their "quick", either alot of vet bills and lots of pain for our lil beardies or death shortly after. I've had 20-30 beardies over the last 10-15 years or so and never evn trimmed once, mainly because the thought never entered my mind. But I'm sure there are some of you caring Beardie owners who are now experienced at trimming them. Ultimately, the choice is yours. Do enjoy.

    • @kevindurant1133
      @kevindurant1133 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well their beardies are captive bred and never in the wild. who would want to get scratched? plus the beardies won't mind to but the over 25 years i believe that theory.
