  • This is a back to basics video. I have turned the clock back to where I started. I originally wanted to have one of each of the first series Matchbox models. Somewhere over the last few months I lost my focus and went on to do later models and also a few customs. Well today I am doing a vanilla flavoured 1950's model. I thought that it would be a 'walk in the park', but it presented me with many difficulties and resisted my makeover efforts at every turn. I got there in the end, and now I am the proud owner of a classic Matchbox that looks as if it just came out of the factory! I do hope that you enjoy the show! Thanks for watching, Marty.

Hi Marty, I'm really glad I've found you TH-cam site. It brings me great joy in watching you refurbish these old classics to their former glory. It's like sending a car to an auto body shop for repairs along with a detail shop. The color was amazing! Thanks for the hours of wonderful viewing pleasure!

I don't know what it is about your channel, but it is so peaceful to watch you recondition the cars. I don't even own any matchbox cars and never really did when I was a kid.

Marty, more of these "Back to Basics" videos would be most welcome. The new ones with Kevin and all the gimmicks are great but these restoration videos are fantastic. Just watching you tear down and discuss the process in detail without all the filler are great.

What a detailed casting, boot hinges, etc. The Lesney factory was turning out superb models in 1957. Great makeover!

    Hello Marty,
In my paying job I am a Sterilization Technician and I use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean dental tools for 8-36 hrs a week. Here are some tips.
Setting up in the morning, I fill to fill line with cool to warm water and 50ml of a cleaning solution (we use Clinidet or a Biosonic Cleaner packet.... Clinidet is cheaper)
Scrub items lightly with a nylon bristle brush ( toothbrush) first to remove heavy dirt.
The water temperature should never get too hot, ours is automatically temperature set. I suggest 36.C
We have it going for 7mins at least, 12minutes for heavy surgical tools and 15minutes for silver spiral bits, (By Australian Dental Association guidelines.)
Always have the lid on when the machine is operating.
Never leave metal items on the bottom of the drum as that can damage the machine. Always use the basket.
For Smaller items like bits & burs, I use a long handle tea strainer and put the tea strainer in the basket.
If I spot any calculas (any dirt still attached) after a clean, it gets scraped off with another dental tool, and then goes in for a second 7min wash.
    I hope this helps,
    Mermaid Miel.

Marty, I don't collect Matchbox vehicles and I don't really have any interest in the hobby. I stumbled across your videos some time ago and I watch them for the following reasons: 1) They ARE interesting, 2) you put effort into your work and the videos, and 3) I'm going through a bit of stress in my life at the moment, and when I have a quiet 20-25 minutes at 1:30 in the morning, I find that your videos are just so SOOTHING. Thank you for this.

Ultrasonic cleaners are not magic, folks. You still need to add elbow grease and brushing afterwards, as necessary. It amazes me how many people don't get it. Gun parts, car parts, electronics, optical parts -- it doesn't matter. The sound waves only loosen the dirt/grime/carbon/grease from the surface. Only you can really be the cleaner! BE THE CLEANER! Ultrasonics is a tool, but only a tool alongside your mitts! PROTIP: For wire brush wheels on dremel -- run a bead of superglue around the wheel where the bristles attach (let set or use activator) and you'll get way fewer flyaways in your gloves/eyes, etc. Great job on the base, by the way, and love your color match. Team Kev all the way! TTFN!
