you should build a big square frame vertically over your tractor, attach all your chain saws to it, have them running and drive along to cut all the branches down. its how the pros do it, i know because my uncles cousins neighbours friends gardener does it so you must be a FAKE!

Cody your camera work is fantastic. I don’t think many appreciate how often you change camera angles, from static to on board shots and even having your drone follow you. Long time subscriber and I watch every video you put out.
You inspired me 9 months ago to look for a job outdoors and I couldn’t be happier. Messing around with tractors and saws all day. Honest work. I don’t know how you have the time to homestead and make great videos too.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to build or get a long trailer that you could load up and pull them out? Not sure how it would do in all your different terrain, but it certainly has to be better than just taking 2-3 logs at a time in most areas.

  • @oldreliable303

I dont have a loader on my old ford tractor, so my way of moving logs is a chain with the picking pole so i can lift the front of the log off the ground and drag the rest.
My old way (before i had the ford 641) was draging logs out with my truck. Its amazing how much a old f150 can drag up out of the woods. Just lock the hubs leave in 1st gear 4 low and give it hell, it will pull or blow.

I also do micro forestry in Kentucky. Slopes similar to what you show on this video, but clay soils that are much slicker. We gave up on using a 4 wheel tractor a few years ago due to soil disturbance and resulting erosion. Went to an ASV tracked skid steer that only applies 3 psi ground pressure. No more rutted paths and logging safety improved dramatically. Older used ones can be found reasonably.

Micro logging? I have to admit I laughed at that. Because myself and probably a few thousand others have been doing the exact same thing with smaller Lancer horsepower tractors. And it's called Rough Scaping. First heard the term used around 2001 shortly after I got my 20 horse John Deere. People my area needed a few logger drug out for firewood her dad would stand out the pretty up the landscape but didn't want heavy equipment in there. It was rough work for a small crew and a small tractor. But I see where they get the term rough scaping from

Never drove a Yanmar, but have a lot of experience with Kubota108 and case farmall95 as well as John Deere. We spaced out the back wheels on these tractors which gave greater stability and less likely to tip over. Might be worth checking into on a Yanmar if using for logging.

  • @ArchangelLunas
    @ArchangelLunas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello Cody. I was wondering, have you thought about installing wheel spacers on the back wheels of your tractor. I just installed a set on my Kubota and boy, what a difference. They really help with the side to side rocking of the tractor when on uneven ground or carrying a heavy load. Just an idea.

Hey there Cody, nice video once again! U never fail to amaze me.
A little off topic but i have a question about woodworking on wich i would like ur opinion.
I want to make hollow rustic wood beam around a h-beam against the cealing. I would prefer a "one piece" hollow beam so it looks like an authentic wood beam like in the timber framing u do. We are in the process of fixing up a Dutch farmhouse wich was originally build in 1936 but was destroyed by the Nazi's after the war when they blew up the dike and flooded the area. It was rebuild from 1947 to 1952 and there hadnt been much work done before we bought it so we are on a huge project. Sorry for going off topic but i cant find out how to PM u to ask u in person.
    Anyway, hoping u might respond...
Thanx in advance and greetings to your family from over here in the Netherlands
    Ferdinand & Tessa

Cody, I am wondering why you never build or bought a small all around trailer, one you can hook on the tractor or car/truck? Because you haul a lot of stuff, where a multi configuration trailer could save you a lot of time and energy! Today I use a standard 4X8 all metal home made trailer, but 30 years ago, I built a 4x6 trailer, that I could configure to carry almost anything, long logs, dirt, rocks, firewood, snomobile, mororcycle, quad bike, 12 feet boat....I remember how to build it, all the tricks to make it work, for the measurement you take your needs... took me 2 weeks to build, which would take you less than 2 days probably! (if you'r interested)

Switching implements can be a bitch. I have beaten up my hands and fingers many times switching implements, especially when it is cold. I would have liked a grapple on the front but I did not have a front end loader, so everything was pulled from the rear. I carried a saw, chain, and axe on my bush hog, which was my standard implement of choice behind my 7740. If the saw had a short enough bar I would put it on the tractor next to the clutch with the scabbard on it. Your Yanmar next to my 7740 New Holland would look like a kids toy.

I once had to move two old highline poles out into the woods for building a bridge over a water filled ditch.
There was no other way to get them out there one at a time, but to straddle the 18" X 30' poles under the tractor, suspended by chains.
I raised the rear up with the 3 point, & the front with the bucket, till it was snug against the belly.
That "log" never touched the ground the whole way out!
I used the same system to reach out over the ditch to lay out the poles.
    It worked amazingly well.

I’m a Deere man myself but I think it has a Yanmar engine (I run a small 1 series as I live in the city) But something that may really interest you is the Heavy Hitch weight bracket. I chose to go this route over the rear weight box due to maneuverability and modularity. I can transport trash cans, has a subsoiler, plow, and several other options you can add on in addition to the suitcase weights. Just though I’d mention it as an option since in the Forest applications I could see maneuverability being a nice benefit.

LOVE the tractor videos! would love to have one someday just like yours, but that thing cost more than any vehicle that I've ever purchased combined...

At .15 in on one of the opening scenes. It turned out really well. The perfect slope with the perfectly weighted load.

That quick attach feature is great. I run a 1987 kubota loader - starts right up, no burning oil. Would love a cab. Eager to see that snowblower in action.

A loader is the most annoying thing in world when your not using it. Biggest liability for hitting things. Especially for road use

    Geat camera work, and music.
Would be fun if you could get your hands on the new stihl MS500i
Ps, tighten the turnbuckle on the right side, your wheight box is offset, left linkage arm must be pretty close to the wheel?
