There’s something to be said about old equipment. Can you imagine trying to get a modern piece of equipment going if it had been sitting that long. The challenges of trying to get all the electronics to work. Gotta love the simplicity of the old equipment. Thanks Pete for another awesome video. And keeping the old equipment alive.
I spent many hours on H's and M's plowing my dad's and my uncle's farms. When I took early retirement (as a result of cancer treatment) at 55 I bought a 211 acre farm. Even though I got old and had to sell I still enjoy seeing young people who love to take care of mother earth.
I plowed a number of fields as a young kid on my grandparents farm with an "H" and 2 twelves. Got a little sleepy one afternoon and hit a big rock and "BANG" she tripped and scared the dickens out of me. I told my Grandpa about it and the next morning we dug around the rock, attached a chain, and the "H" couldn't get the rock out. Grandpa said "them dang fangled tractors can't do everything." He went up and got his team of horses and he worked that team and got the huge rock out. He told me to get the tractor and the stone boat and said maybe the tractor could get the huge stone to the rock pile. In the old days Grandpa was a logger and teamster in the Northwoods of Michigan so he knew how to work a team of 2 to 6 horses.
And he’s so knowledgeable about so many things, without talking over my head, even though so much I know nothing or very little about. I love this channel and thinking of Pete and Hilary as my next door neighbors. 😍
Hi Pete and Hillary. I reaiiy enjoy your channel. Being an 84 (next month) year old central Pa. boy your Little Genius plow video was a pleasant surprise and brought back memories of 70 years ago when l plowed for my uncle on his farm with an F20 and 2 - 14” bottom Little Genius. Still enjoy the smell of freshly turned soil especially in the spring. Seldom get to plow any more but still making some hay on some of my permanent hay fields so l enjoy your hay making as well as the every day things you two do as a great team. Looking forward to the Plow Day video . Hopefully extended or maybe more than one. I spent over 40 years in mostly commercial and industrial construction working with many people including Architects and Engineers. Had some really good teams. I understand what you mean about burn out. It wasn’t hard to retire. Keep up the good work. Many people enjoy your channel. Jim.B.
When I was a kid, I watched my neighbor working his fields with almost exactly that same rig.... That was state of the art in the 60's for small farms.
Pete your enthusiasm after plowing and the excited anticipation for the plow day that's coming up actually brought a tear to my eye. Those days of plowing sure were fun for me too. Usually they were pretty chilly early spring or late fall. But fun none the less. 😊
Pete - I really enjoy that you educate us younger generations on how the older equipment functions and operates. All of your content is truly valuable. Jake from Missouri!
Really enjoyed the video and your explanation on the plow and how to use it. You are the Fred Rogers of the youtube generation of farmers, homesteaders and do it yourselfers.
Memories as kid riding along with my Father with a 4 row sorta similar plow and similar results on a Farmall in 1963, watching, learning and fascinated at the time then and thanks .... watching this latest video, now.
I just wanted to say thank you for the great videos, the haymaking, the restorations and how the farm works. Please keep them coming. I grew up on a horse stud in NSW Australia, and whilst it was a different operation, it has many similarities, especially the love of tractors, old implements and hay making. My family’s plan is to give up the corporate life one day and move back to this, your videos are an inspiration. Thank you Robert
This ranks as one of my favorite episodes, what a wonderful machine. Makes me think twice about all the implements I see parked in country yards as “yard art “ , there’s probably life left in them also.
I used to have a two bottom Little Genius plow that I pulled behind my 1940 Farmall h in the neighbors fields always fun always very nostalgic thanks Pete For The Memories
Thanks Pete ! I don't know about you but here in north central Ohio we are in our worse drought ever . And our ground is almost like concrete . And what you did with that plow was amazing in very hard soil !
Hi Pete, I have the exact same Little Genius plow with 2-12" bottoms. I use it every year behind my SC Case and it gives the Case a workout as it did your H. On the left side wheel there are cone shaped nubs bolted on to give the wheel traction to lift the plow out of the ground. I see that your plow is missing those nubs but those holes in the rim are where they will bolt on. On our hilly ground all furrows are thrown uphill on the contour, so it takes twice as long to get a field done since the trailer plow is out of the ground on each return trip. The old two plow tractors around here (JD B, Farmall H, etc.) were usually equipped with one right and one left plow but it still took twice as long! A roll over mounted plow with two rights and two lefts was sometimes used on a larger three plow tractor. You are lucky to have big flat fields up there. Have fun!
They sure don't make 'em like that any more! Drag it out of the bushes that grew up through it, grease it, adjust it and go plow a field with it. Simply amazing!
Fun listening to the International pull. We farmed in the 60s with W9 (4 bottom) and she had the same sound. Pulled a 4 bottom with pony drill(4ft). Rode that tractor many, many hours. We would stop and try to catch baby jack rabbits when we were plowing and seeding at night. When we would start back up, we had to lift the plow. That would leave a ridge in the field where the combine would 'jump'. Biggest problem was trying to stay awake. The tractor would follow the furrow 'most' of the time. But as soon as you fell asleep, she would jump the furrow. Thanks for the memories.
"It's a beautiful day for a tractor ride." That sounds like a new catch phase. Second only to "com'mon cows ." Have a great day, see you on the next one.
I've watched your channel for years and I must say this is the first time I have seen one of your tractors really getting a workout! I really appreciate how you explain what we're looking at. This was another great video Pete. Well done.
Pete, definitely want to see the F20 and Plow Day! Looking forward to it. Now, on the Little Genius: what a great plow and it deserves to be cleaned up and restored to it's IH Blue Glory - another winter project for you, like you need more projects!
Pete, i usually stay out of the correction thing, but plow width is more easily measured as the distance from outside edge of one beam to inside edge of next beam. The chain was used to drag behind plow to pull down the tops of grass/weeds to make for a nicer finish. I think your videos are the best and thank you for all you and Hil do!!!
Very cool, I love old equipment! I have an old hay baler from that era, just missing some parts so I haven’t been able to identify it. It’s amazing that it is field ready after all these years.
I loved ploughing the old way mark out your furrow and nothing more satisfied than a nice straight finished furrow I know the reverseable plough is faster but the finished look is not the same and the old way helps with drainage
Despite the sign at the end, a rag soaked in old motor oil wiped around would really make her shine! Great video, Pete! Thank you kindly for the wholesome grassroots 😉video content!
Love it, Pete! Great to see vintage tractors and implements at work. I have a similar setup up with my 1941 John Deere model A, and my 1938 to 1943 John Deere 4B trailer plow. I have yet to try them both at a plow day. Next year, I am hoping.
Hercules rides again! Love that old H. I look forward to seeing the video from your plow day Mr. Pete and really look forward to seeing the F-20 and Super C in action.
Just great. So many plow questions I had were answered. People ask me questions and I reply "well Pete does".......or "Pete says....." I am Canadian. Would love to shake your hand some day.😊
What memories of my youth plowing for my father with our H and 2 bottom plow! My grandfather bought the H and "Little Genius" plow new in 1940. He didn't like the plow and traded it for an Oliver 2 bottom which I used many years. Later I had a 5 bottom with my IH 560 Diesel which made the job go quicker! Thanks for the memories.
Grabbed my morning coffee, and turned the conputer on booted up YT and here was a new Just a few Acres video! what more could I ask for! great way to start my day!. Just think what an old farmer would think watching that rig plow two rows! and so effortlessly vs his horse and single bottom! he's stand there and just shake his head in awe!. and mutter. "What will they think of next? yep ! what will Pete think of next! thanks for sharing and making my morning Pete. and lets not forget Hillary she started the video off with you! God speed for both of you. ECF
Wow! Great to see the Little Genius pulled from the weeds. I too, have a Little Genius No. 8 that I have used with my 1925 10-20 McCormick Deering steel wheeled tractor. I however have painted mine and it is a YARD Ornament. The 14 year old paint needs a refresh however.😀
Tractor loading up and sounding very sweet with the old plough. I always think back to the Victorian days when a couple of steam ploughing engines did the rounds for hire. Watching the plough head running on wires to and from the underslung drums, is a sight to behold even today. Seeing the Shire Horses working in tandem doing that job is awesome too. Thank you for posting best from the UK.
Thank you for that education! I never knew that method was used. I did a little research and it was pretty interesting how they did that with steel cables and the stationary steam windlass. Learn something old every day! 😊
That was great Pete!! A bunch of years ago, I had a Farmall Model C and a rusty two bottom plow that looked like the lower priced cousin of yours. It was such great fun making that thing work. I had a total blast making furrows around my pasture. It was great watching you actually turning over soil like that. Looked like it was really compacted hard. With today's planting they don't even scratch the soil. I just love the sound, feel, and handling of the tricycle red ones myself. I used mine mostly for hauling wood from the forest I had there. Thanks for some great content here. My area is upstate, near Point Rock NY
Hello Pete, Found your channel from watching another farmer ( Out of the woods in Tenn. I am not a farmer always lived in town but am very interested in farming equipment for some reason🤔. Me and the wife have been watching your videos for awhile now and love your work. You know how to explain the machines so we no farmers understand it. Thank You for sharing your farm with us.
Is there no limit to this man’s knowledge? Always a treat to watch for what he brings to the table. Keep them coming!
Even better than bacon AND sausage for breakfast! Add a pot of coffee and some toast and jam and you have the wonder and wisdom of a "Pete" video!
I don't think the plastic would last that long.
Sat for twenty years, covered in vines, put to work and didn't have to air up the tires. Thanks Pete that was cool. God bless.
I spent many hours on H's and M's plowing my dad's and my uncle's farms. When I took early retirement (as a result of cancer treatment) at 55 I bought a 211 acre farm. Even though I got old and had to sell I still enjoy seeing young people who love to take care of mother earth.

That was AWESOME ! And Pete's filming and editing skills just gets better and better. As fine a content creator as anyone on TH-cam.
Yep!
Love it hope to see lots more!!
And he’s so knowledgeable about so many things, without talking over my head, even though so much I know nothing or very little about. I love this channel and thinking of Pete and Hilary as my next door neighbors. 😍
Agreed.

WOW Nice job, Pete! 😅 Thanks ( N.Graber ; Ind)
That old plow did a wonderful job. The H pulled like a champ. Wonderful video Pete.
You had some very nice straight furrows. Your Grandpa would be proud of you.
I like the old stuff, makes me admire the workmanship and thought that went into the implements.
The simplicity of them makes it easier to understand just how ingenious they were, and their simplicity just adds to how useful and durable they are.
Pete you are quite the farmer, “outstanding in your field”. Great to see the old plow turning soil again. Thank you.
Reminds me of my childhood and watching my father plow! His pride was always having straight furoughs🥰
I very much enjoyed seeing that old plow and tractor do the work it was designed to do.
Never thought I’d see you plowing a field up ! Enjoy the working weather we got right now
You’re way ahead of us. You knew what many of us were thinking. No paint.
Nice plow work! I grew up driving an H.
Morning Pete .... the older the better, things aren't made like that use to be
Ain't that the truth.
These machines were built to last unlike nowadays machines 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Pete
When I was a kid, I watched my neighbor working his fields with almost exactly that same rig.... That was state of the art in the 60's for small farms.
Good Morning All.
Best way to start my morning!
Pete your enthusiasm after plowing and the excited anticipation for the plow day that's coming up actually brought a tear to my eye. Those days of plowing sure were fun for me too. Usually they were pretty chilly early spring or late fall. But fun none the less. 😊
Fine job Pete. Hope you guys have good plowing conditions on your plow day.
So satisfying to see that that old plow still works as it should, and to see your old tractors stretching their legs as well. Thanks, Pete!
Pete - I really enjoy that you educate us younger generations on how the older equipment functions and operates. All of your content is truly valuable.
Jake from Missouri!
Love his working old tractors as well 🎉
Love seeing old iron working like it did in its hay day
I love watching your videos.
Enjoying the moment of an old plow.
Hi Pete,
What fun to watch someone having fun ❤
Thank you, Dave! 😊😊😊 👍 So neighborly of you. Good neighbors can be hard to find. What a different, fun video. Thank you!!!
Really enjoyed the video and your explanation on the plow and how to use it. You are the Fred Rogers of the youtube generation of farmers, homesteaders and do it yourselfers.
Pete … you are living your best life, I always enjoy your videos
Glad to see you having a fun day. Thanks for education on how the old plows work. ❤
Great video Mr Pete look forward to see the f-20 plowing
Very cool unveiling of the number8 plow. Made me laugh when you drove off and got the vines off. Very nice.
Memories as kid riding along with my Father with a 4 row sorta similar plow and similar results on a Farmall in 1963, watching, learning and fascinated at the time then and thanks .... watching this latest video, now.
Very educational and historic, it is so enjoyable and a learning experience for myself thank you Pete and Hillary
I think a plow like that deserves to be restored thanks for the videos
It is restored... He greased it up.
@@orsonwells7997😁
Guess you didn't watch the last 10 seconds of the video lol
@@garretthass Let's hope he changes his mind.
What’s to restore? It works perfect!
Nothing Sounds better than the old putter of a farmall! Love it
I just wanted to say thank you for the great videos, the haymaking, the restorations and how the farm works. Please keep them coming.

❤❤😁👍🏻🇨🇦
Love vintage plowing implements. Always wanted to see them used. AWESOME
The smile on your face when the plow was first hooked up and moved, told the whole story. Thank You.
I used to have a two bottom Little Genius plow that I pulled behind my 1940 Farmall h in the neighbors fields always fun always very nostalgic thanks Pete For The Memories
Not only is it a delight to see the H at work, but it also sounds terrific.
Fun to see the Farmall H pulling the two furrowed plow, just like the ones I grew up using sixty years ago.
This has been my favourite video in forever amazing, 80 years young
Thanks Pete ! I don't know about you but here in north central Ohio we are in our worse drought ever . And our ground is almost like concrete . And what you did with that plow was amazing in very hard soil !
Antique Plow Days are some of the greatest ways to go back to your childhood on the farm!!!
How much fun can a guy have. How could you not love this.
thanks Pete - that was a beautiful thing to see - take care
I am looking forward to the plowing video. Thanks showing us the Little Genius plow still doing the job.
Good morning!
Good morning, Carol!
Nice job Pete. Brings back a lot of memories for me.
Me too 👍
It was like the 1950's watching you move the dirt.
Same set up i learned to plow with in 1971 thanks for the memeries
This 50 year old thoroughly enjoyed watching that beautiful 80 year old show off her skills!
Hi Pete, I have the exact same Little Genius plow with 2-12" bottoms. I use it every year behind my SC Case and it gives the Case a workout as it did your H. Pete, I love all of your tractors but the H is my favorite. It just sounds like fine music. God Bless, Daryl
"It's a beautiful day for a tractor ride." That sounds like a new catch phase. Second only to "com'mon cows ."
Have a great day, see you on the next one.
I love watching the dirt roll off a turn plow. Good video. God bless you my friend. 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

Interesting surprise content video, Pete. As my grandfather always used to say. Nothing can beat the old iron. Great video. See ya Sunday
That Plow deserves a functional refresh and I bit of paint.

I like how Pete knows all the names of the parts of the old machinery!
Great to see old machinery at work. Dad's 84 and still does vintage ploughing matches here in England

I pulled one of those behind a 1946 B JD 60 years ago. Thanks for the memory.
That smile on your neighbor Dave’s face as you guys looked over the field before plowing! I have the same smile now watching you plow with the H!
A great video of plowing old school. The only thing missing is the smell of fresh turned earth.
Would love to shake your hand some day.😊
Nothing like the smell in the morning of freshly overturned earth and diesel exhaust, great memories growing up.
Great to see old school farming God bless you and your family.
Awesome video Pete. I was surprised to see that plow take grease. Great touch at the end with the sign.
Plow day will be neat to see. My dads cousin had a garage full of old red tractors like yours . Love that sound .
What memories of my youth plowing for my father with our H and 2 bottom plow! My grandfather bought the H and "Little Genius" plow new in 1940. You can also measure from center of beam to center of beam
A lot of old memories there. Growing up I spent many hours sitting in the seat of our Super M pulling a 3 bottom plow driving up and down the field

What a treat this was!
Outstanding episode Pete….looking forward to seeing you at the farmers meet.
That was fun, Pete.
Absolutely film the plow day, that was awesome, and O-H!!
