I don't support laws that govern personal decisions like who is allowed to reproduce or whether you can be a surrogate mother, but people should be encouraged to make responsible choices. It seems obvious that children benefit from a combination of maternal and paternal parentage and that it is particularly important to have a parental figure of their own sex.
While it may “seem obvious” to you there’s no scientific backing to that claim. However, we do know that there being 2 parents is much better than having just one.

It seems you are ignoring the evidence that you don't like, which is exactly my point: consideration for the needs of the child should be prioritized over everything else.

@@zak7427 it seems pretty obvious to me that having a father and a mother is the optimal condition for a healthy child, ignoring other mediating factors. That is the point that they are making, not the suboptimal option - same sex couples, who have no framework other than to simulate a mother and father figure. Evidently, life is not straight forward, so I personally don't see an issue for same sex couples to raise children, unless what they are saying about women being enslaved is true, which i dont think it is for most same sex couples.

My Father came out when I was 10yrs old. I spent weekends with a loving close knit group of gay men. I most assuredly never saw any naked butt shaking! If anything they were more conservative than many of my friends parent's parties we would peek on!

The child's right is to receive what he lost by nature: a father and a mother. They should not be used to fulfill the wishes of adults who cannot provide him with what he totally needs. How can two men guide two girls about the unique things of women?

How can a single Mother instruct her son on male issues? Either way the parent if comfortable presents the biological information clearly or has a same sex friend who is comfortable "have the talk" or last case senerio the school can provide factual information! Though the way things are going with the ultra-conservatives, schools won't be able to discuss biology anymore!
How are we ensuring that mothers and fathers in straight relationships guide them about the unique things? We're not. There are deadbeat fathers and mothers all around us. Most marriages end up in divorce.
Single parent headed families do not have as good outcomes for raising children. Here we have another member of the same sex acting as parent and you are against it.
We cannot easily stop single people having children or families dissolving. Lets not obstruct 2 parent same sex families when you'd not do anything to them if it was just one parent. It's so irrational.

What does the wish of a gay couple, to have the same rights (like when it comes to their children) as a heterosexual couple, have to do with a man who thinks he's a woman and wants to compete against women.

@@_Twink As far as I understand queer it means not conforming to certain norms. That's exactly where the problem lies for me. I think the point of this piece was that gay and lesbian couples do conform to the norm of being capable parents (which they do). This insistence to ally themselves with the transgender community is hurting their cause.

Most of the population is straight. That makes being straight normal. It also makes being trans abnormal. Why would I raise my child to be abnormal? If a child says they want to grow up and be a doctor I do not hold them to that decision. They have a right to change their mind. So I take no steps to push the child to become a doctor but instead I simply wait until the child works that out for himself. The same holds true for gender identity. It is not the job of the parent to spot it or to do anything. The children will work that out for themselves. Later in life they could blame the parent for pushing them in a direction that they ultimately did not want to go. Let kids decide for themselves. To do anything is overparenting.
They used to say people were born gay. Now they want to say that iit is the decision of the parent whether they are gay or trans or not. I say do nothing and let kids just be kids. It has worked for centuries. If iit is not broke don't fix it.
And who's exactly pushing these children in any direction? Being a majority doesn't mean being normal, minorities are equally normal.
